3. No pension, hmo, housing scheme, transportation, I was already boiling inside of me
4. He said I am resuming as a contract staff and they will make me full staff at their convenient time. That I just heard that day.
4. I will work one year before I am entitled to leave. I will be under supervision for 2yrs and cannot leave the company within that period
5. Most annoying part is that he said it is a Christian company I nearly slap the guy.

These and many other red flags I saw.

So guys do not resign from your previous job before taking another offer. If the new offer is not good enough turn it down and continue with the old job till a better one comes.

Even if they will take me in my previous place, I won't go back. The slavery there is depressing. Imagine an international company that is supposed to be paying 20 dollar an hour paying 1.3dollar an hour in Nigeria. Meanwhile its fellow competitors pay the normal money

In 1989, I was desperate to leave my job and cross over to another industry. I had passed through tests at an institution and, when I visited their HR weeks later, was told I excelled.

I was going to resign from my job but talked with my home fellowship leader. I tried my best to convince him that the new job was mine but he kept saying' Wait till you get the letter of offer'.

Please imagine how shocked I was when, a couple of weeks later, the PA to the proprietor came to my office to show me the confidential report they had written in response to a request from the new company and had sent.

We shouldn't be desperate and end up being exploited by employers.

I'll say, like Deacon Dos said decades ago, don't resign from your job till you get the letter of offer from the new employer.

Why cant you leave the company? Did they invest anything on you or you collected a loan from them? If there commitment from the company to you, they can't tie you down with such useless rule.

A guy that was once in Norway, working for Statoil Hydro of Norway put in transfer to come to Nigeria. His pay in Nigeria is still good but lower than the pay in Norway. Certainly. Country peculiarities need to be taken into account. Fuel in the UK is between £1.10 to £1.40 per litre which is minimum over N700 per litre, so you can't expect UK salaries to be equivalent to Nigeria.

You should get an offer letter first before resigning from your present employment. People even use offer letters from competitors to negotiate pay raises and promotions with their employers.

What I normally do is that I avoid brands and or services of such slave mentality companies...

Yu will see some asking for 5 years experience with masters as an added advantage. Not more 28yrs as at the time of applying with 2nd class upper from a reputable institution...

To the glory of God, I presently earn over 100k after 4years and about 10months of combining 3 or 4jobs to my present job description.

To wake up in the morning to go to work, no dey sweet me most times but I can't quit.. You go manage the one wey you get till you find better one.

I got tired of applying to jobs at some point because of their outrageous job requirements..

There was a job offer I saw requesting for a PhD holder of not more than 26yrs of age and 5yrs experience.

Thank you very much. If you don't get the offer letter before you resign, how then are you sure you will get the offer after you resign. So in that case, if you are asked to go resign before they give the offer, that right there is your red flag number 1. Run o.

you must accept and appreciate what you are collecting now for another bigger one to come your way.. that's lesson about change of position.

Okay, I feel led to comment on this topic and give my advice. My advice is very simple and could help the next person that might make this same mistake. Here is my suggestion.
1. Get the offer letter from the new job and make sure you understand it very well, ask questions at every point if you are not clear then ask them to give you time to resign from your present job. Don't be desperate.
2. Since most of them will not be entiely open as in this case, don't resign from your current job rather take a leave from your annual leave, casual leave or any leave available, call in sick for 2 days if you like.
3. Use those days to resume and try out the new job and watch for the red flags. Usually within the first week of your resumption you would have known if you will stay or not.
4. If it's good, go back to resign properly even if it means you might forfeit some things, otherwise go back to your old job peacefully without notifying them.

I have a lot to say and I know there are different cases. I will be glad to help if anyone has further questions.

Very good advice. In countries where systems work..... before you even apply... you will know what the job requires.... and when given the begin date... that job is yours.... there are no surprise rules and conditions. In Nigeria... it is not so in general... so it is for you to protect your employment status. Forget about sending in resignation letter 30 days or whatever before. Like the above suggested..... go do your interviews.... tell your employer you are sick since most likely if you have keave... they will deny you... that you are showing signs of COVID-19 and will go do a test. Go begin your new job and after a week or so... if you like it... remain .... tell your former employer you don't know when you'll be back... then resign two weeks later. If you don't like the new job.... go take a COVID-19 test ... show up to resume work with your test results to let the boss know you are now COVID-19 free. Life goes on.

Forget any job that the employer wants to make sure you left your job.... that is a big red flag........ he wants you to be at his mercy .

what i will say is never allow the anger or frustration you face in any company make you take rash decision cos you will always land in a worse situation than you where, but rather let it build you so you can face any challenges in life. no matter how difficult it may loook.

Thus is actually the Modus Operandi for job cross carpeting, Employment letter with full details, before resignation. If there is any breach you can take it up. Final.

As an employer let me just tell you that if you want to make more than N100k a month go and do your own business.

This country is hard to operate in and you find obstructions at every point, from unknown taxes, to people raiding or even pulling down your offices and yes, bad and dishonest employees.

You can be as nice as you like but you are always evil to workers that have a disconnect from their reality of being in a third world country.

Instead of them to compare themselves and situations to other African countries or India at the most, they will be looking at the west.

Is our money the same? So how do you think private business can provide what even the government cannot.

If you have more sense get a civil service job and do other businesses to sustain you. That is the reality of a developing country not the fake life yahoo boys, and women prostituting themselves to government officials that are looting your money are showing you on social media.

The other thing that you can do is farming. That is why allowing politicians to turn tribes against each other is madness they are getting their money from Central bank you are getting yours from a peaceful country.
