there more to this, the op should tell us the truth, the op should come out straight.
this isn't the first time, beside you are becoming a thorn to that union. the day she got married to you bro that home became her territory, so she reserve every right to protect and defend her territory from intruder.
go drop your entitlement mentality, you have no right in that home. that you laboured with your bro is a wrong statement (if at you did, she is here to reap from your effort or from your labour) all the while you were helping your bro, you were preparing the ground for her.
the better you start thinking about how build your own Empire than wrestling someone else's from her.
please let her enjoy her marriage in peace.

You are a child!
Ask your brother to give you your portion of your joint business venture with him.
Then get out of that house immediately.
You will reap what you sow dear.
You even have the guts to enter her Kitchen, cook and serve a stranger! Are you out of your senses?
And some thoughtless kids acting like men here are clapping for you.
I married at 23 years. Definitely you are above this age. If not, then you are a suspect to be fighting a legally married in her matrimonial home. What?
Your types are those who depend on their family members and always complain that they are not being treated well even when they keep on blowing investment funds given them to fend for themselves.
PLEASE, PLEASE, AND PLEASE, PREPARE AND LEAVE THE HOUSE AND LET YOUR BROTHER AND HIS WIFE REST AND ENJOY THEIR MARRIAGE BECAUSE I CAN SENSE THAT YOUR BROTHER IS NOT MAN ENOUGH TO HAVE SPOKEN THE DIVINE TRUTH TO YOU.

Only people who are possessed with the spirit of witchcraft and afflicted with poverty mentality, will see anything wrong when a woman's BIL goes into the kitchen to cook something for his guest/friend. I said what I said...

In this decade when women are taking charge of industries and big businesses, some are still forming alpha & omega of kitchen matters.

As in ehn. Some of the comments I've read here so far are disgusting I tell you.

Every family member should have their rights but also know their boundaries. If a wife steps outside her boundaries with the belief that I am supposed to take sides with her, she would receive the shock of her life. Same goes for any brother, sister or even parent. Make everybody just park well abeg.

For her to throw his things out, OP must have been causing wahala for the woman in the house. It's easy for him to paint her bad but no one knows what she has been enduring. It's obvious from his words "because everything my brother own, we both struggled for it" he has entitlement mentality in the house, isn't allowing her to enjoy her home or marriage in peace because he thinks he should be living there, and who knows what he has been saying to her. In this part of the word, if the law gets involved in such situation OP would be in the wrong.
Inasmuch as the other party is not here to defend her actions, this is a completely unfair assumption. Base your judgement on the information at hand please.

If she were here to defend her actions, OP would look worse than he already does, as I'm sure she would have lots to say.

No, it's not an unfair assumption on my part because by reason alone, nothing takes place without a cause (or causes). She certainly didn't wake up one day and decided to pack his things out without any cause(s), so there are things that have led to it.

He shouldn't even be living in their matrimonial home in the first place.

Why should a wife share in the man's "suffering" while growing up, was she not also growing up with her own family?

He cannot marry his sisters or female cousins who probably shared in his suffering while growing up.

We tend to struggle with the reality that once a brother gets married, the dynamics would change. His nuclear family is his wife and children and in reality, his family of origin becomes extended.

My "brother's house" is more applicable when he is still a bachelor but when he gets married it also becomes his wife's home and the law regards a sibling going there to "act drama" as a trespasser.

I strongly believe there are unresolved underlying issues between the OP and his sister in-law before the incident.

This sounds like there's not a lot of money in this house?
Are you guys rationing food or something?

Before this situation, I bet you both have been having friction.

Sorry your things were thrown out, ask your.brother to settle you so you can go and rent your own place.

Can't even imagine being territorial about kitchen in 2021,when Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is serving goals.

Truth is she's the wife, she has all the rights in the house along wiv your bro. Any issue you got with your brother before his marriage, you don't punish her for it.

Settle your issues with your brother, leave, when you leave you can do whatever you want in your own apartment, not constituting a nuisance to anyone.

<<< OP, The reason why you felt insulted could be that you have been living in that house with your brother before he married your sister inlaw and three of you were now sharing that same space that was your territory back then... You feel that she has no right to encroach on your already made heaven.. and she too feel that she's the rightful owner of the place... so she decided to show you that she is MRS.

<<<< Here's what I think.. I think she has no right to throw your thing outside the house irrespective of what you have done... She has no respect for your brother..i might be wrong but she's the one calling the shots in that marriage if she couldn't wait for your brother to return so she can register her displeasure to him(that's none of my business anyways).. Assuming reverse was the case, and she was living with her own sister, can your brother throw her sister inlaw's belongings outside when the wife was not around..

<<<< OP, you should stop cooking for your friends... You are no longer living with your brother alone... serve them light refreshments when they come visiting.. when you get your own place, then you can cook for them and do as you like...You need not to drag territory with your sister-in-law.. All you have to do is hit the ignore button at all times.. maintain emotional and social distancing from her until you get your own place..

<<<< Finally please.. Please... and Please, whatever decision your brother takes concerning this issue, do not hate him... You might not know the emotional tussle going on behind close doors... The decision might be for him to just have peace of mind.. Help your brother to achieve that peace please..

from your story ,you and your brother probably rented that apartment and everything in it together before he get married . I understand your situation and some woman are like that .call your brother , tell him to support you to get your own private apartment but if he insists there is no money , just move on , even if is to a one room apartment . staying in that apartment with that kind of woman is very dangerous .

your life is more important bro , forget property
God will bless you with a better well modern property or even build your own house .

I am angry right now,
My brother’s wife is so full of pain, whenever she sight me.
I don’t know where this hatred is coming from, today she did worst than before.
a male friend visited, and I went to the kitchen to cook and serve him.

After my friend left she started ranting, and I shouted back at her.

She packed out my belongings , and she started throwing my bags and other stuffs outside.
She locked the house entrance and left with the keys

I decided to stay calm and wait for my brother to come back.

Because everything my brother own, we both struggled for it.

That home is now her home! You better humble ypuirself to her. She has the right to walk you out of her home! Simple!!!

I think you were too hash on the OP... Based on your marriage experiences, you should have known that there were so many dotted lines scattered around the story line that begged to be filled/ answered before passing your hasty judgement..

Besides, where you implying that if the young man was living with his brother alone in that house before his brother married the lady in question, he has no right to enter inside the same kitchen he has been using for years and cook?...Also in a normal situation where there are foodstuffs and all in the house, what's the big deal about OP entering into the kitchen, cooking and serving a friend?... He would have been faulted assuming he served food the sister inlaw cooked and prepared by herself to a friend... Besides since when have it become a big taboo in Nigeria for a brother to leave in the same house with his brother...

Also telling him he will reap what he has sown without getting all the answers to solve the puzzle and telling him that you were 23 when you got married was uncalled for.. it was your choice,..you were mentally and financially prepared to get married @23... no one forced you to and it's not compulsory he must get marry at 23... Advise him on what will bring Peace and lasting solution in a cordial manner without acting as if you were mad at someone or frustrated because u got married at 23.. just saying.. wink

Look at me here wishing my inlaws will always enter kitchen to cook while I eat from it and save myself from stress. As long as there's enough food in the house, you can even cook for your community, life is not that hard.

What I can only deduce from this op is that there has been series of fights and it didn't just start today.

Meanwhile, the wife is wrong for throwing you out of the house, even if she is the one paying the house rent, she should at least have some respect for her husband.

Any family member that spends time in my home is free to enter kitchen and prepare whatever they want, life shouldn't be so hard biko. That said the brother's wife is totally wrong. No matter what, it's completely wrong of her to throw her brother in law's things outside like that.

When will Nigerians realize that a married couple's house belongs to the couple alone? I'm not taking sides, but its their house not yours, whether brother or not. If you know your sibling's spouse doesn't like you, why not let her know that you have a friend over and you'd like to cook for the person? Instead of just doing it as if you own the place. Some women are very territorial when it comes to their kitchen.

She reacted very harshly sha. I think talking about it might have been better

Cooking or serving a guest isn't the problem here. There are deeper issues you need to address. Using her kitchen will always be a problem so long as you both are not in good terms. Today it is kitchen, tomorrow you will open another thread about how she cursed you for using her toothpaste, remote control, soap, etc.
