How Is it even possible to leave debts for one’s children? If I take out a loan to buy a house and I die, the bank will just take the house. Same as any other physical asset that I pledge as collateral. Infact, company debts die with the company if the company dies when the owner dies.

Banks and creditors don’t go after the children of debtors to pay loans. If you die and your collateral does not suffice, the bank is on its own.

This is 2021. Not 1021 BC grin

Naira is c.10 to 20% overvalued and a correction is expected later this year. Many people are holding off as they expect further devaluation at some point this year.

A good approach is to hold investments in both currencies it helps or if you must keep cash without investing keep it in USD.

The last t bills stop rates are gone. You may not be able to get them in the secondary market at the auction stop rates. But they were 1% for the 90 days, 2% for the 180 days and 4% for the 360 days.

There is an auction coming up on 2/24. You may just be better off getting those as people expect the stop rates to be slightly higher than the last ones.

I've been working with 20% NGN, 80% USD since Jan 2020.

Nobody should ask me if I'm spending USD. The investment instruments in USD (stocks, crypto e.t.c) already yield better than the alternative local currency options. So it doesn't even make sense to consider Naira.

There's no worse time to exchange. Exchange it now and start investing in foreign denominated instruments. What eventually matters is the ROI and sustainability. If you can't do stocks, Eurobonds still gives around 8%, so why invest in naira?

Your straw man fallacy doesn't help any one. Why don't you refute his arguement with a superior counter argument instead of spewing bullocks. grin

Some googling and this:

Upon the death of a person, he ceases to have a legal personality; this means that the dead person cannot sue and cannot be sued; neither can a case be filed in court on his behalf in a representative capacity. However, upon the death of a person, he is deemed to have died leaving behind what is known as an Estate.

An Estate has been defined to mean “the property that one leaves after death; the collective assets and liabilities of a dead person”. The estate of a deceased person is therefore made up of not just what he owns at his death, but what he owes others.

It should be noted that the beneficiaries of the estate of a deceased Debtor are not personally liable or responsible to settle a deceased Debtor’s personal debts.

No business school or university go teach you this one, this one na imbibed experience. It is simple and small details like this that determines if a business especially a retail business will be a successful business one or not.

This is what an apprenticeship model teaches you, either from your oga or from your parent/ward.

Anyone with real life experiences?

What I learnt as a Sales Boy
I learnt this while working as a sales boy few months after graduating from the University in 2017. I had not yet gone for National Youth Service.
My boss was into sales of imported furniture and related household items. He had two shops, not too far from each other. While his apprentice was in charge of the branch office, he ran the head office along with his wife.
His wife had just put to bed. Hence, the vacancy. My role was to help Oga in the shop, including buying his food and washing the plate thereafter. I would resume 7 a.m and close 7 p.m. By the way, my salary was 14,000 naira.
The first thing I battled with was pride, considering that I did not use to wash plates at home at that time. Moreover, my oga was a secondary school drop-out (he told me) and I was a GRADUATE with STRONG second class upper.
Knowing that life isn't balanced, I quickly settled into my roles. I crammed the price of every item in the shop within few days. And I learnt never to call the real price of items whenever a potential customer asked for price of goods. "This is not supermarket", my boss would say.
I felt I had every information I needed to make sales but whenever my boss left me in the shop, I struggled to make sales. I had people coming in to ask price but they hardly buy.
It took me months to learn what I was doing wrong.
This is an illustration of how my boss typically attends to a customer:
Customer: How much is this dining set?
Boss: Oga (or Madam) welcome o. Come into the shop na, this sun is too hot. Godwin, bring chair for our customer to sit.
Customer: Thank you, but I won't sit; I am in a hurry. .
Boss: Okay. This dining set is 80,000 naira. It used to be cheaper. I don't know where we are going in this country o. If I told you that I used to sell this dining set for 45,000 naira would you believe?
Customer: Are you serious?
Boss: I am telling you. Since this government came into power, the price of everything has skyrocketed.
(He says this to know whether the customer is Pro-Buhari or Anti-Buhari. Either way, he would AGREE with the customer. In this example, let's assume the customer is Pro-Buhari)
Customer: It's not the fault of this government. If the previous administrations had done the right thing, we wouldn't be where we are.
Boss: You are right my Brother (Sister). I am even happy with the way this government is trying to tackle some of the challenges we face. It's true that things are difficult now, but it's only a matter of time.
(The conversation could go on and on about what the government is doing right and my boss would quote Bible on how we ought to pray for our leaders. By this time, the customer is very relaxed and friendly with my boss since they share the same ideology).
Customer: So, what is the last price for this dining set?
Boss: Well, since we are friends now, how much will you pay for it? It's very durable o, though it's Chinese product. People often think that every product from China is fake, but that's a lie. China makes quality products, just like this one.
(He emphasizes the features and benefits of the product).
Customer: Can I have it for 50,000 naira?
Boss: It's more than that. Pay 70,000 naira, let's package it for you. There is a vehicle here that can take it to your house, if you didn't come with your car. I will personally follow you, to set it up for you.
(They spend time to haggle the price. Eventually, the customer says 60,000 naira or no deal.)
Boss: This dining set is actually more than 60,000 naira, but because things are hard and "market no dey move", just bring money. If not that it's you, I wouldn't sell this dining for 60,000 naira.
(He makes the sale for 60,000 naira; the real selling price)
Supposing the customer is not yet ready to pay for the dining set, my boss would say something like this:
Boss: It would be difficult to get this dining set less than 60,000 naira anywhere around here. The only place I know you can get it cheaper is Alaba International Market. That is where I also buy from. Alaba is far from here, the cost of transporting it to your house alone would have taken whatever amount you are trying to save. Let's not even talk about the stress you would go through. And you may end up not getting quality product like this one since you're not an expert in these things. I am here everyday except Sunday, come whenever you are ready to buy it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This method was so effective that some people who didn't buy at the first encounter, return to buy from him even though they saw the same product, at the same price, somewhere else.
After I learnt his method, I began to make sales in his absence.
Here are some lessons I learnt from his method of selling:
1. He shows genuine concern for his customer's welfare. Instead of answering the customer's first question, he offers them chair to sit.
2. He tries to connect with the customer to build rapport. This makes the customer to see him as a friendly person. Did you notice how he calls the customer "My Brother"?
3. He calls a price way above the real selling price. This is because people love to bargain. If the customer buys it at 60,000 naira, he would feel good to have gotten the seller to bring the price down from 80,000 naira. If he had called 65,000 naira initially, the buyer would feel cheated if he paid 60,000 naira.
4. He emphasizes (demonstrating in some cases) the benefits / features of the product.
5. He tells the customers they could get it at cheaper rate somewhere else but tells them why they should buy from him. This establishes him as someone trustworthy.
These lessons can be adapted to suit selling online.

Of course you are just playing the devil's advocate. You and I know that theory is very different from real life practicals.

You yourself attested to that the other time when you took Dexter to the cleaners. By the way, where is Dexter?

Secondly, nothing simple with this type of customer service and negotiation skills. Even though there are courses in business schools about things like this, e non fit be like this one abeg.
