This is going to be Tuchels problem with the board. As much as he achieves results with the cheap players like Alonso, Rudiger, Chris and co, he is sacrificing expensive assets to the bench to stabilise the defence with three defenders, and eventually the board will have a problem with it as soon as he gets one or two wonky results. When you have multimillion assets like Pulisic, Kai, Ziyech and Chilwell rotting on the bench, the board will start pressuring him sooner or later.

I stated during Lampards time that at certain times, he will ordinarily go to three at the back to stabilise things and drop one of the attacking players, but he was putting himself under pressure to justify the outlay so kept persisting with 4-3-3.

Very true. When I saw Werner ruin that chance with his silly first touch after Mount had played him in, the first thing that came to my mind was that a player like Rashford or Mbappe would have controlled the ball in such a way that they would be facing the goal immediately. He could have been one on one with the keeper if he had a good first touch.

Firstly, Chilwell had a good season until the change to 3-4-3. Just because he was poor in one game in a 3-4-3 does not make him a bad player. £80m spent on flop like Havertz also makes the same money for Declan Rice look like a bargain in comparison.

Well I done talk my own. If you think the board will stomach playing plenty defenders every game and ignoring the wingers and AMs they spent plenty money on, then time will let you know how far.

Playing plenty defenders is the obvious way to stabilise Chelsea in the absence of a functional defensive midfield but that is not the mandate from the board.

Newbies won't know we've been at this game since the days of Shevchenko and Torres. We know of how much pressure JM came under to play Sheva, how much pressure Ancelotti and RDM came under to play Torres to the point Emenalo was harassing them constantly. All these managers losing their jobs was in one way or other linked to Sheva and Torres. Then we read last season how Marina was pressing Lampard over Kepa matter. You think Roman paid all that money to be packing defence with cheap players and leave out the ones he spent big money on?
