Pan- Yoruba socio- political organisation, Afenifere has said the Northerners cannot threaten the South with withdrawal of cattle and other food produce as there are other alternatives where the items can be purchased.

There have been fears that acute shortage of beef, vegetables, tomatoes and onions, among other essential edibles from the North may soon hit Southern Nigeria as foodstuff and cattle breeders, under the aegis of Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) had four days ago threatened to withdraw their services.

However, Yinka Odumakin, the organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, who spoke in a chat with Saturday INDEPENDENT listed countries such as Togo and Benin Republics as friendly countries where the South can purchase cattle and other items withdrawn by the North.

He also said the withdrawal of foodstuffs by the North will benefit the South as it will make the people do more in the area of agriculture.

Odumakin, who said there are other sources of protein that the South can consume aside cows however said the Northerners shouldn’t also forget that the oil from the country flows from the South to the North.

“If they withdraw their cows from the South, no problem about that. Before cows, we had what we were eating. Cow is not the only source of protein, there are several other sources. It will encourage our people to do more in the area of agriculture.

“We have neighbours who are peaceful in Benin Republic, Togo and other places that we can buy things from. They can’t threaten us with anything such as withdrawal of items.

“They should also not forget that petroleum goes from south to the north. So, they should be careful. When you are throwing stones at your neighbours, you should be careful what he throws back at you” he said.

This is the kind of statement i want to hear more, OPC should provide security for our people in the farms give our people confidence they needed through positive encouragement and security support.

We the entire Yoruba people will pay, just announce a bank account for SW security. You will see how Yoruba people worldwide will make it a priority to fund this project but it must be done under the Umbrella of OPC

If you are hoping on importation to fill the gap, remember that we run the borders, we can close Seme again plus other southern land borders.

We can handpick the foods to be imported from the ports because we are in charge of that sea access too. We can ban chicken and fish imports, alongside tomato and onions imports.

That's just it

There are always price to pay for good things...

SW can in the meantime be getting their food items from neighboring countries while we start the process of mechanized farming.

If buying the food items temporary at high cost is the price to pay to stop Northerners from killing our farmers and destroying their farms, we are ready to bear the consequences.

Is it not ironic that it's still same Northerners ( few of the herdsmen which turned to killer)that have not been allowing our farmers to produce large quantity of food items with their cows destroying the farm.

This is indeed blessing in disguise

These antecedents will affect very greatly 2023 Election. It will be more like an election between the North vs the South. It might even be a referendum. So keep it up Northerners, you guys are doing a great job.

Do we have to tell their blind men it's raining...

Now that the herdsmen have gone, the farmers would have peace and opportunity to produce more food items..

Aint much of a blessing really

First, the North is not going to get a better market for its agro produce other than the South. Niger is too broke to provide a substitute, as are many other African countries.

The South too is heavily dependent on Northern agricultre to survive. Plus Southern agriculture is not mechanized at all...it is basic subsistence farming. Meaning in the event of a total loss of supply from the North, the only way to meet up with demand is...IMPORTS AND MORE IMPORTS...and eventually more debts.

Keep this up for five more years and both regions would be as broke as poor church mice. Sorry...church mice would be richer than them

All in all, this is what happens when you spend less than one tenth of the amount New Your spends on policing 25 million people on policing 211 million people. It is also what happens when Nigerians glorify taking the laws into their own hands. And we have successive governments who are too lazy to do anything about it.

But frankly speaking the disagreement between south west and north is all we pray for.

Because this is the only thing holding one Nigeria together

It's a win win for all including west because west can never benefit anything from north except subjugation

Are you telling me we won't start seeing the result in 1-2 years If the south decide to go into massive mechanised farming?

I'm even thinking of going into this farming business of Tomato, Pepper and Cassava.

I'm going to be a bit cynical and say that the South is not going to take to mechanized farming....not when the biggest business in the South is importation, and food importation is a large segment of that industry

Then we don't have a strong enough manufacturing sector...meaning any machinery for agric would have to be imported.Raises the cost.0

Finally most Nigerian youngsters are not interested in farming.Everyone wants to migrate to the city, and live the city life.Especially when you get a degree or school cert.

As such, not enough people would be interested in mechanized farming.

I've often wondered how it's possible for restaurants in the Yoruba land still have N20 meat.

This doesn't make any sense, using oil as a leverage is lame, knowing fully well that the oil belongs to the citizens of Nigeria while cows and foodstuff are kind of an individual thing.

See ehn, let this country just scatter, make everybody go their separate ways cos our tired is tired.

Muslim nations call for boycott of French products - ABC News

After that stupid boy killed a French teacher last year, the Muslims boycott french product.

France did not shake, they did not react, they just ignored the idiots

later the same idiots found they can't do without french product.

They thought they would have a massive impact on the French economy, it did not even dent a thing.

The French behave as if they did not exist. and they became tired. sometimes people will get high blood pressure waiting for your reaction.
