My problem with most of the commentators is that if they see Yam or Cassava leave in real life they won't recognized them. Food production is not by writing beautiful grammar on frontpage of newspapers or comments on nairaland forum; take note, please.

Aint much of a blessing really

First, the North is not going to get a better market for its agro produce other than the South. Niger is too broke to provide a substitute, as are many other African countries.

The South too is heavily dependent on Northern agricultre to survive. Plus Southern agriculture is not mechanized at all...it is basic subsistence farming. Meaning in the event of a total loss of supply from the North, the only way to meet up with demand is...IMPORTS AND MORE IMPORTS...and eventually more debts.

Keep this up for five more years and both regions would be as broke as poor church mice. Sorry...church mice would be richer than them

All in all, this is what happens when you spend less than one tenth of the amount New Your spends on policing 25 million people on policing 211 million people. It is also what happens when Nigerians glorify taking the laws into their own hands. And we have successive governments who are too lazy to do anything about it.

Muslim nations call for boycott of French products - ABC News

After that stupid boy killed a French teacher last year, the Muslims boycott french product.

France did not shake, they did not react, they just ignored the idiots

later the same idiots found they can't do without french product.

They thought they would have a massive impact on the French economy, it did not even dent a thing.

The French behave as if they did not exist. and they became tired. sometimes people will get high blood pressure waiting for your reaction.

But we in the south refuse to see that North had since separated from Nigeria after Arewa 12 sharia states adopted unconstitutional Islamic Sharia criminal laws. Southern politicians still clutch tight to one Nigeria because the north brainwash them that Nigeria is an indivisible country.

We Yorubas are most unlucky with leadership. I just saw a video of the Alaafin spraying money on Wasiu last week and I was like, "seriously??" I mean, is that supposed to happen in this perilous times when many Yoruba face Fulani terrorism extermination, poverty and some are even seeking refuge in Benin Republic. Last month, the moronic beaded Oluwo of Iwo paid a visit to the Fulanis Emir of Ilorin to pledge his allegiance and dissociate from the Yoruba consensus against Herdsmen terrorism in the SW. The docile Dapo Abiodun of Ògún also visited Buhari and condemned racial profiling of Fulanis as criminals. We have been betrayed on all sides. What else do we need to prove that elite are ONE in this game of exploitayand repression of the masses?
Sheriman:

Time for those obas and yoruba governors to come together and reason on how to decisively deal with this issue on ground by making the Northern state to know we can sustain without their food. But it's a pity that some of these obas and useless governors will reluctantly not take any action since it wouldn't affect them

Please let me get one thing across to you, Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Kogi and Benue farmers do not have any issues selling to the South.

Last I checked, the Hausa-Fulani are not the dominant tribes in the aforementioned areas neither are they the farmers in these areas although they might be the traders who buy from these areas are sell to the South.

A clear distinction needs to be made from within the so-called North. I am not saying there are no Hausa-Fulani farmers in the North however when you extract these areas I mentioned who have no issues whatsoever selling to the South then you get the clear picture.

Therefore it may be important to redefine the value chain, individuals and companies alike that are based down South simply have to make and sign direct deals with local farmers in the above areas and transport the produce down South. And if they must let them get armed escorts. The progressive North needsto ddissociate itself from the regressive North. As for beef and milk, I am certain we will do just fine.

This is a blessing in disguise really and I am more than happy. Less herdsmen means more security and more investment in agriculture going forward. We will come out of this stronger and wiser, I hope.

States and local governments in the south should rise to the occasion. Individuals, groups/associations and religious bodies can get things done too by focusing on Agriculture.

In the south we have two seasons, rain and dry/harmattan. During the dry season, let's launch into massive irrigation projects. There are many streams and rivers that are never dry during this dry season. God has placed them there for irrigation purposes. Even swamps and riverine areas with little or no water only require some five meters digging up to get water that never run dry. With pipes, pumping machines, etc installed, the rest is history. In 1 to 2 months, vegetables, especially tomatoes and green peas will be too much in markets. Our dry season shouldn't be wasted on frivolities because it a blessed time to produce everything brought from the north, and more. But we have abandoned it, and now it takes a fool to teach a fool real sense.

When rainfall starts, a lot follow am come.

Honestly with our Agriculture, we'll get atop of the world instead of looking for white collar jobs and unnecessarily falling victims of fake religious teachings.

Everyone should learn to use the little space around their house for their vegetable and protein needs instead of concreting everywhere and spending their scanty earnings on those things from the north. Only people who are not house owners may buy more but for less because we won't compete with them in the market.

:Security must be a serious business now. Cattle must never be allowed into our farms again. Let's support our governments to implement no free grazing.

They must also create for us ranches, farm settlements or places to industrially rear cattle, etc as done in saner countries. Enough of beef produced with everlasting curses and ponmo that drips innocent human blood.

State government forests must be secured tightly by our forest guards. Thank God the law of the country totally gives that to state governments. So, it is time to know who is anywhere and monitor what everyone does.

Amotekun everywhere and local vigilante too. All communities must collabo on their own and work together with really helpful security agencies. As a person, be always prepared to defend yourself.

Stop talking like an ignorant person Mr man. Even in Lagos state which is the smallest state in Nigeria, there is still a lot of lands for farming in itokin, imota, agbowa, epe, badagry, ibeju lekki etc.

You are fooling yourself. Even if you block the border, boys will smuggle them in. I grew up in ogun state and nothing will stop those boys. (Correct juju smugglers), Another way to make easily money for them. when buharis term is over. All those fulanis that are in key positions now we pay the price. Like have said yorubas are not known to lose war. You just wait and see what will happen to fulanis when buharis term is over. Boys are preparing for you. What happened in oyo state is just a warm up.

and you think we can't survive without tomatoes and other items that comes from the north certainly we will and much more. And by the time the government decide to handpick what's to be imported by those in South we'll now know it's a war against the South by that time we 'll sure know what to.

You think you made sense, sir? Nigeria's borders are just suggestions - they're not really existent. When you "close" them, you simply empower customs to collect more money to let WHO THEY CATCH pass.

Correct answer.

There is an opportunity for Lagos State government there to supply all vegetable and protein needs of Lagos from there, create jobs, and really pocket Nigeria. Already 60% or a little more of the economic strength of Nigeria is in Lagos. Statistics in telecom, power/energy, etc prove this.

So, Lagos can be another Japan, and its likes. It can be done like this: Give the land to individuals ready for it, support them with all that is needed, then buy the produce from them. You take tax and loan repays. They are happy because they will be very rich. The government takes care of storage and supply to the market, and export.

If Lagos government is really ready, it will work and some people up there will regret it.

I agree totally

At the incursion of the herdsmen I to the South, there calls for southerners to boycott the northern agro produce especially beef, but laziness and lack of will did not allow them embark on the boycott.
Thankfully what the southerners could not do for themselves, the northerners have now done for them..
The withdrawal should last for at least one month so the loss would be substantial enough and also allow southerners step in and fill some of the gaps

Great !!!
