Still better

Do the math yourself

The problem with Nigerians is that you guys want to use the money for a bicycle to buy a car.

First you talk of the average minimum wage convertible in naira. Average average minimum wage in the US is $8 per hour that is more than 3000 naira an hour

And then there is the tax to gdp ratio which in the US is 33%, compared to Nigeria's 6%

Plus, if you are earning below 50000 NAIRA in Nigeria, which includes most minimum wage earners, you are exempt from tax here in this country.

That has no bearing on the topic...plus most Euorpean countries pay higher than 400 naira.

UK pays N655 naira per liter...and that's an oil producer.

France pays 699 per liter.

Norway is the third largest producer of oil...and pays N755 per liter.

Oga, dumb... What is their minimum wage over... Do dey power their generator every day? People like you are the reason Nigerian are suffering.... Death to anybody who is justifying the cruel action of this government.

As far as I'm concerned the income side of the equation is the problem, not the price.

Minimum wage should be like N100k. Though that would mean those in govt payroll needs to reduce by like 30%. Most of them are adding little to no value anyway.

1.Their minimum wage is higher, and so is their tax rate. Minimum wage earners in Nigeria are tax exempt...plus pour tax rate is lower than even Niger Republic.

2.We overuse generators in Nigeria because 40% of us don't pay our power bill, and the power tarrifs in Nigeria cost less than the cost of production meaning that the power sector has no money to pay for upgrades among other things.

In Europe, they pay cost reflective tarrifs, plus everyone pays for power. Nothing like illegal conenction, tapping of power, bypassing meters like we do here

3.Thanks for calling me dumb. And I don't support nor have i voted for APC so your death threats are just words to me...

Yawn.

Make it N500 per if you want, just make it available. Because if you see the fight today at a gas station you’ll think they’re giving gold bars away for free.

Petrol is cheap in Nigeria. The argument should be what are they doing with all the road taxes collected.

Please don’t quote me if you don’t want to grow a fifth limb.

What this means is that if one is not a government worker either in local, state or federal level so as to earn salary there is nothing to benefit as a citizen of Nigeria. No strong security network, no good road, electricity bill is madness, now the fuel subsidy has been removed.

Exactly!! Instead of the endless fight for everything to remain cheap, we should instead be demanding accountability from our leaders. Even if factors of production stay same for decades, price will increase via natural inflation.

Even in America to buy what $1 would buy in 1975, you need $3 today.

Lol. What are you even saying? In my area, the monthly bill doubles monthly rent for power that is not constant. Plus, what is the lowest minimum wage in America? 15 dollars per hour, now compare that with Nigeria. Someone earning 80k in Lagos is not earning America's minimum wage, yet, you wanna compare?
Godarz:

We don't pay for power like other countries do.

We pay tarrifs that are not cost reflective, plus at least 40% of subscribers for power...to give an example...don't pay even.

Other countries pay their bills, or pay higher taxes to get better services.

You don't get it

On every 1naira petrol you buy there's tax on it

Even when you board commercial bus or motorcycle, you pay tax

Even if your earnings is 10,000naira per month, you still pay various taxes unknowingly

50naira stamp duty on every 10naira deposit is there & if you receive 10,000naira & above in hundred time in a day, you got charged 50nairw on each 10,000naira, that's not tax? 7.5% charges on every calls you make is not tax? 7.5% on cable TV subcription is not tax? 7.5% on bank transfer charges is not tax? I can go on & on

That's why I said you don't know what you r saying

Well, when 40% of Nigerians are not paying for power at all...plus when you insist on paying N30 or less per kwh for something that costs N53 per kwh to produce....what do you expect.

Plus, what is the lowest minimum wage in America? 15 dollars per hour, now compare that with Nigeria. Someone earning 80k in Lagos is not earning America's minimum wage, yet, you wanna compare?

And you want American level of life at the level of our income? Okay...

Bros, you don't pay tax out of a vacuum. You are just blabbing looking only at one side of the equation.

You are comparing 6% to 33% in costs.

How about compare minimum wage income of 75USD a month in Nigeria to over 3000USD (@18USD/hr) per month in the US.

Don't you think it's easier to pay 33% of 3000USD when the left over of 2,000USD is still a whopping 27 times the supposedly tax exempt Nigerian min wage of 75USD?

I'd rather earn 20Million Naira and pay 5million naira as tax than to earn 1million naira and be deceiving me that it's tax free. It's common sense.

Also my 5 million will be put to judicious use to provide better social amenities as opposed to the current near non-existent social welfare.

Pls argue intelligently and not mischievously.

We can enjoy life in this country if we have sincere leaders but sadly we have wicked people in power with funny followers who don't speak truth

If government stopped inflating cost of project, embark on projects that will have positive impact in lives of Nigerians then this country will be better

Example of inflated project is the newly built rail system even devil will be busy shaking his head with the way they inflated this project yet not 100% functional

The problem with Nigeria is that most people don't pay taxes...we have a low tax base...

Nigeria seems set to rely heavily on taxes to fund its federal and stage government expenditure. To achieve its target it will have to broaden its tax base and hope that economic activities pick up to be able to meet projections. Nigeria’s very low tax to GDP ratio has often been blamed on low tax base as over 50% of the economy remains informal. In the recently approved 2020 revised budget, the FG is projecting total VAT and Corporate tax revenue of N2, 029.3 million and N1,694 trillion respectively.

SAUCE: Nairametrics :Nigeria’s records 6.1 percent tax to GDP as tax base for VAT rise to N23.7 trillion
