POWERTALK LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM 1 SAMUEL 17(2) LEADERSHIP BEGINS WITH A DISCOVERY OF PURPOSE Leaders don't need a position to make impact and exercise their influence. First it must be settled that we need a defined purpose to make an impact and without impact there is no influence or leadership. What was the position of David in the army before he killed Goliath? None. Both in the civic and the military leadership, David had no position but yet he made impact. That was leadership. A position of leadership only gives you a platform either to increase or decrease your leadership influence with people over time. Saul had the position of the king but had no influence of leadership, for leadership influence must be born out of impact and impact is a product of purpose! All a great leader needs to exercise influence is not position but purpose! David asked, 'is there no cause'? (1 Samuel 17:28-29). ‘And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 29 And David said, what have I now done? Is there not a cause? Leadership is born when a man or woman finds a cause what dying for. Purpose is what transforms followers to leaders. When you discover a cause, a mission, an assignment inspired by God you stop been led by others, circumstances and situations; you begin leading your own life and others according to the dictates of heaven! How Eliab was wrong about David, he thought maybe David came to see the battle, not knowing that David came to finish the battle Read full article here...http://www.powertalk.com.ng/2017/11/01/leadership-lessons-from-1-samuel-17-the-power-of-a-worthy-cause/ ©powertalk www.powertalk.com.ng 08087872077 Facebook:powertalkplus Instagram:powertalk_official *Could this bless someone you know? POWERTALK LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM 1 SAMUEL 17 One of the most popular bible stories i love hearing while growing up is that of David and Goliath. it was how the good small guy defeated the bad big guy. It was just one of those stories that i just love. It teaches faith in the God of Israel who is the same yesterday today and forever. It teaches that unwavering faith in this mighty God and believe in one self is one of the keys to defeating the big challenges before us. However over the years as i read this passage of scriptures i begin to discover a treasure mine of wisdom that goes just beyond the obvious that was stated above. This passage of scriptures has much more. Its a gold mine filled with valuable lessons and it is such lessons we will begin to explore from this series. and so the first leadership discovery i made is this. GREAT LEADERS ARE BORN DURING PERIOD OF CRISIS Great leaders are often born during period of national or organizational crises. Israel was at war, the army of God was being defied by the philistines, someone is needed to step up to the fore and take the reins of leadership. David did and saved a disgraced nation from the threatening of its enemy nation! 1 Samuel 17:26, ' David, who was talking to the men standing around him, asked, “What’s in it for the man who kills that Philistine and gets rid of this ugly blot on Israel’s honour? Who does he think he is, anyway, this uncircumcised Philistine, taunting the armies of God- Alive?” (Message) History abounds with men and women who at moment of crisis stepped to the fore, save their families, society and nation. Nelson Mandela did that for South Africa in the fight against Apartheid. Winston Churchill did that for Britain during the second world war! Giant killers are often born during periods of crisis and struggle! Our most challenging moments may yet be 'our finest hour'. And like it was said to Esther, 'who knows if you have been brought into the kingdom for a time like this'! This so called video was a message preached years back. Social media pranks. Just went up and dig up a video that quotes the bishop talking on giving and you said he was replying to Daddy freeze. This was a message giving in Bill Winston church sometimes back. Oyedepo is too busy to have time for freeze. |
CampuChan:Tithe is fighting back? How? is it not the people that are paying it that are fighting back. In other words the "sheep" have refused to be freed! Well in the first place they were not bound. The person lashing back at freeze is an actor not a pastor, a tithe payer and not a tithe receiver so how is tithe fighting back? |
TO TITHE OR NOT TO?(9) OF BALANCE TEACHINGS AND EXTREMITIES I Love the Church of Jesus, it is the most beautiful institution he has given to humanity. He was the one who first use the word ‘CHURCH’. In Matthew 16:16-19, he said there, ‘I will build my church and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it’. The present church, in whatever form it is today, is still been built by Jesus and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it. Now follow my thoughts, when the prosperity gospel started, it was all about giving to the extreme and then God raised wise teachers who provided balance opening our eyes to the importance of creativity, hard work, entrepreneurship, saving and investment. And from there on the church was put on a good stead to dominate the economy of the land. Indeed, this is the pattern that God has used over the ages to advance the church. He brings apostles, extremists to kick start the move of God, that is especially sometimes after the church has been in one spiritual lethargy or the other. There after this he will send teachers who will bring balance to what the Apostles have espoused and preached vigorously about at the beginning. Quoting from Donald Gee in his articles for the voice of Healing titled, ‘EXTREMES ARE SOMETIMES NECESSARY’, he said the following. ‘There has to be an extremism to move things…Miracles of Healings occur when faith refuses to be logical, and blinds itself to arguments, based on plenty of contrary experience and more balanced teaching…we need extremism for a miracle of healing, but we need balanced sanity for health. We need extreme fervour to launch a movement, but we need the repudiation of extremes to save it from self-destruction. Only a wisdom from above can reveal the perfect synthesis. It takes Pentecostal genius to know when and where an extreme doctrine or practise must be modified to a more balanced view, and where, on the other hand, the broad lines of truth must be temporarily narrowed into an extreme emphasis upon one point to ensure a dynamic powerful truth enough to move things for God’ This has been the pattern with which Jesus has moved his church over the years. We have had the move of the Spirit, and then we have the move of the word. There was a time it was all about prayer and prayer. And then the movement of the word came, it’s all about the word and the word and the word and that gave birth to the present wave of bible believing and charismatic churches. But there is another move in the offing that will combine both, the move of the word and prayer, both finding the right balance and that is just about starting. The glorious days of the church of Jesus Christ are still ahead. POWERTALK RANDOM THOUGHTS HAND OF GOD What makes you special in life is the hand of God that us upon you. Of John it was written in Luke 1:66, "Everyone who heard about it reflected on these events and asked, “What will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was surely upon him in a special way."(New living translation) When God's hand is upon you no one can predict your results, for the wind blows where it wants and no man can tell where it comes from or goes, and so is everyone that is born of the Spirit. When Gods special Hand is upon you you produce special results that your enemy cannot anticipate or predict. That is the way of the man of the Spirit, your moves or results are unpredictable. This new week Gods hand will be upon you specially. Ezra confessed in Ezra 7:6 of the blessings of the hand of God. "This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the Lord his God upon him." He was anointed and so all things were granted. This new week according to the good hand of the lord, all good things you desire will be granted unto you! The hand of the lord provokes favour. It will be a favour filled week for you. What makes you special is the hand of God that is upon you. So without Gods hand you are ordinary, average and of no considerable worth. Crave and pray this morning, lord let your hand be upon me. ©powertalk www.powertalk.com.ng 08087872077 Facebook:powertalkplus Instagram:powertalk_official |
TO TITHE OR NOT TO(7) Really, I don’t believe in the tithes! I believe in something much more higher and better, because we live under the dispensation of grace and of a better covenant where we have been given better promises! The tithe came before the law, though it was eventually regulated under the law, still it was an act born out of faith and gratitude to God. It came through Abraham by faith who was the father of the old covenant. Here under this covenant Abraham gave tenth of all. However, Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant (Hebrews 12:25) which has better promises and when he was to give he gave all of his! He gave all to the father by the death on the cross and set the benchmark for what our giving should be – all! When Jesus sat over the offering basket and was observing what people were giving, he hinted the disciples on whom he thought had given the most. The criteria were not on how much you have given, it was on how much you have given relative to that which you have left, that which you didn’t give! And when Jesus did his findings, he said the widow gave more because while all the others gave some out of what they have this woman gave all that she has! Wow! Now that is new testament giving – giving all! And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. (Mark 12:41-44) The widow was rated higher because he gave all. Seems to me then that what impress God is not what we give, but what we give relative to what we have left. The others probably gave tithes, 10%, but this woman gave 100%, and the master was moved! The old covenant is about the tenth, the new covenant is about the all! The old covenant is the covenant of the tenth while the new covenant is the covenant of the all! Our benchmark is not 10% but 100%! If 100% is the benchmark why is the 10% worrying you? The 10% is the entrant level into this kingdom if you really love the lord and you are grateful for his provisions – 10% is for kindergarten Christianity 101! TO TITHE OR NOT TO(6)? ITS A PERSONAL WALK In Habakkuk 2:4 we have this powerful scripture that reads thus,‘But the just shall live by his faith’. It’s simple and straightforward but its message powerful: the faith walk is a personal walk with God. The level of our faith determines the quality of our relationship with God. It’s the reason why we may carry the same bible and hear the same word but still produces different results. It’s the reason why Hebrews 11 only had few bible characters mentioned amidst thousands of characters in the scriptures. Our spiritual productivity is relative to our walk with God. It was said of Enoch that ‘he walked with the lord and was not’. His walk with God was on another level and so was his result – he didn’t see death, even though it was appointed unto man to die once, yet Enoch defied that law, he didn’t die! The Faith walk is a personal walk. How you walk with God determines where you are placed in his kingdom. Make no mistake about this, this is a kingdom of levels so we are not all on the same pedestal, ratings, experience and reward with God! Everyone mentioned in the books of Hebrews 11 secured their place in that great assemblage of great men and women all because of their faith and their faith came due to their revelation of the word. For faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word Of God (Romans 10:17) What you hear determines what you do, it determines how you behave. Abraham heard in Genesis 12 to go out and he did and because of that obedience became the father of faith! What you hear from God is what distinguishes you from your peers! Our fathers of the faith had a revelation of the prosperity gospel that gave birth to the giving pattern that we see in the church today. Like Abraham did they had a revelation of giving the tithes, of giving to the church of Jesus, to men higher than them in the faith, of giving to the poor and the less privilege. They pursue these multi-faceted giving as contain in the terms of the covenant and the results are there to show today. From men driving rickety cars to men flying in jets (whatever your grouse is with that). From men who are ordinary university lecturer, ordinary doctors, teachers, to men who influences nation! And not only are they great but equally the gospel they preach, the gospel of tithing and giving, of which many are debating today has been responsible for liberating the church from the pangs of poverty, setting up millions in affluence and wealth. Or why do you think despite all your shouts and criticisms of the jet flying pastors their congregations still adore them and follow them? Oh, you think they are brain washed? Far from it, it’s not because they are brain washed it’s because their lives have been transformed! Read full article here: http://www.powertalk.com.ng/2017/10/13/its-a-personal-walk/ |
TO THE POOR OR TO THE LORD? Who should I give my tithe to, to the poor or to the lord? This is one of the major talking points with the recent new wave of teachings on tithing. And I am trying to find which scripture exactly supports that. I know of the scripture in Nehemiah 10:37-38 which says, to give a tenth of the tithes to the church. Here it is implied that a tenth of the tithes should be brought to the lord so that the house of the lord will not be neglected, but what I haven’t found so far is where the remaining 90% should be administered to the poor. However, I love that scripture that says whatever you give to the poor you lend to the lord! ‘He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given.’ (proverbs 19:17) Now lending to the lord is good business, because whatever you learn is paid back in multiple folds. Every seed returns in a multiplied form and not in its original form. There is another scripture in Proverbs 14:31 that equates oppressing the poor as the same as reproaching the lord. ‘He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who honours Him has mercy on the needy.’ (Proverbs 14:31) Having said that it is still good to note that when the first man gave his tithe, it was not to the poor it was to the lord! ‘Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.’ (Genesis 14:18-20) We know Melchizedek is not poor because he brought bread and wine and was classified as a king. Hebrews 7:1-17 gives us the new testament implication of this transaction that Melchizedek was a type of the real lord to come, the real High Priest, Jesus. And so whatsoever Abraham gave was to the lord. In verse 8 of this book the bible states that though mortal men, priests, may receive the tithes on behalf of God, but ultimately the tithe is received by God! Leviticus 27:30, ‘And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's: it is holy unto the Lord.’ I can give to the poor, but majorly our tithes are to the lord. POWERTALK RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES The heart cry of our heart is what facilitates the power of God. Prayer is key here for the rain of the Spirit to fall. No wonder it is one of the arts that modern day believers have had to contend with. The devil will have us do everything but pray. Tremendous prayer is what makes tremendous power available! (James 5:17-20). Your prayer base is key to your power base. When you neglect your prayer base you decrease your power base. The church identity was forged and formed on the platform of power and so must ours be! We must linger until we are empowered! And when we are empowered the world will pay attention! It’s time to pray for a fresh breath of the Holy Spirit upon our lives. There is a spiritual edge that the Spirit of God gives the church! In the uncertain times that we live in, a fresh breath of the Spirit of God will fill us with fresh perspective to view the problems of our present world and proffer solutions that will command the attention of the world! The unction of the Holy Spirit produces supernatural dimension of innovation and thinking that earthly wisdom cannot match! For whatsoever is from above is above all. When He that is from above sits on you it takes you above all, above the world and make you a living spectacle. The ultimate church is the one driven by the power of God! The ultimate believer is the one led by the power of the Spirit! Romans 8:14 tells us that the real proof of our sonship is the Holy Spirit at work in us! ‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God’ Our churches are not just to be purpose driven churches but power-driven churches, because ultimately the purpose of God for the church is to be an ark bearer of his power to the world! Did Jesus pay tithe? What a question to ask? A tithe is the tenth part of the whole. Jesus didn’t give a part of his life, He gave all His life! The reason many finds it hard to part with what they have is because to a large extent what you earn is a representative part of what you worth. So, Jesus speaking in John 10:10-11, 17 and said: ‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep…. Therefore, My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father’ Without question and unreservedly, he gave his all to God! Now how many are ready then to follow in the footsteps of Jesus? How many are ready to give their all? If we were in a hall or church building now there will be few hands that will be raised up in response to this question. Following in the footsteps of the master is not what we say with our mouth it is what we demonstrate with our acts! You cannot pay the tithe and yet you want to give all? Yes, I have questions about the administration of the tithes, but really it is not within my spiritual purview to judge that, what is within my purview is my worship of the master and no worship is complete without giving! Psalm 96:8-9, ‘Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. ‘ Bring an offering and then you can worship, that’s what the scripture says here. When the Israelites were to be free from Egypt the man purpose was so they could worship the lord, and by favour GOD made them spoil the Egyptians so that they could have substance to worship the lord when they get to the land he Has promised! The sacrificial lamb gave himself and today that single offering has reaped over a billion people into the kingdom! This is the power of sacrificial giving, be it ten percent or more, what you give comes back to you in multiplied form! Still wondering whether Jesus was a tither, no he was more, he was not a tither he was a life giver! He gave his life and took it back again! You want to be like Jesus? Giving the tithe should be the least of your concern, that is if you are really serious about been like Jesus. Because really what is the goal of these recent wave of teachings? What is the motive? To make us give more to the poor? Give less to the church? Really how many of us do give to the poor? How many of us are mindful of our neighbours? How many of us will really give the ninety percent of the remaining part of the tithe to the less privilege consistently without supervision? Bottom-line is those who don’t want to give have just found an excuse not to give, period! Because those of us who are really giving are not tired of giving! And the reason for that is obvious, Jesus gave us the answer in Luke 6:38..... Read full article here - http://www.powertalk.com.ng/2017/10/11/did-jesus-tithe/ |
TO TITHE OR NOT TO(2) - YOUR HEART YOUR TREASURE Whoever gives his life without first giving His love? And whoever gives his love without equally giving his money? Giving is the ultimate proof of loving. But mind you it is possible to give without loving, however it is impossible to love without giving! "And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar." - 1 Kings 3:3-4 Everyone that ever claim to love has always proven that love by giving! Solomon love the Lord and in proof of that love offered a thousand burnt offerings(now that's a 1000 ram sacrifice, check the worth of that today,It was a single offering of love!). And of the church of God in Macedonia it was written of them of how even in the midst of their affliction they abounded in generosity. 2 Corinthians 8:2-5 recorded of this great church "How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God." Those who have given themselves has no problem giving to the Lord! The Macedonia church didn't just give 10%, no! they gave their all because they had first given their heart! asuustrike2009:Well said brother. We have been on this path for long and the profit shows no other teaching can change or derail the word of life which we have handled |
TO TITHE OR NOT TO(2) Now I paid my first tithe and that was about 22 years ago. It was N30, a big deal amount of money to me then. And then the unusual happened: few days after someone gave me N200! The highest I was given before then was N50 which were always collected by my parents! However, this time, the N200 was not collected! I was free to do with it as I will. In the first instance the N30 I paid as tithe was not really a tithe because I took it out of a certain N50 I had saved overtime. I just figure out that for all the money had been given in times past that N30 should cover for it! Now this was my first experience with paying my tithes! It established my believe in the word. But what if it was a one-off experience? Possibly. Therefore, I kept at the word, I kept paying my tithe, and as I keep paying I keep having or experiencing those supernatural coincidences where men ‘gave to my bosom’. What happened the times I couldn’t pay my tithe? Yes, there were times I was just plain slack or self-conceited, and I could not pay my tithes, at those times I won’t say I was ‘cursed’ but I did discover that those ‘supernatural coincidences of someone giving you N50000 without asking and is the same amount of money you need to meet a need, tended to slow down or stop altogether! My pastor has said over and again that if God shows up today and said that there is no heaven again that it is too late. He has made up his mind going to heaven and God showing up to say there is no heaven won’t change that. Why would he say that? He has experienced God so much that not even God can tell him otherwise that he doesn’t exist again. It is the word of life which has been handled! Those who doubt God are those who have not experience him! They are the men the Psalmist called ‘foolish’ because they know everything else but the word of God! It’s the same who cast doubt on the principle of giving and tithing, they speak from what they read, but we speak from what we have read, known and experience. The campaign to stop the church from giving is too late, we are sold out to God and his kingdom on the earth and as imperfect as the church maybe it is still the institution that represents God on the earth, she is the pillar of truth and to the church I faithfully give my tithes. Yes, I will give to the poor, the less privilege, to my parents, to the hospitalised, but much more I will give to His church which he purchased and washed with His own blood Read full article here: http://www.powertalk.com.ng/2017/10/09/it-was-my-first-tithe/ |
POWERTALK OPEN HEAVEN(2) There are three major things that happens when the heaven over our lives are opened! First there is a divine visitation where heaven and earth revels in a spiritual intercourse. When there is divine visitation the distance between the two realms of life are bridged. No more distance between the two again, heaven and earth begins to freely interact to bring about the plans and purpose of God for our lives. This was what happen to Jacob in Genesis 28:12. "And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it". Thereafter God appeared and spoke words that changes the destiny of Jacob. This week there will be a spiritual collision between heaven and earth for your sake. This week you will hear words that will make the world hear you! This week you will see new visions that will reposition your destiny. In the name of Jesus(amen). An open heaven experiences leads to divine visitation. And one divine visitation can end the struggles of a lifetime(Genesis 21:1-7). Your longtime and lifetime struggles are coming to an end today. There are things men have concluded will never be done in your life(Genesis 21: 6-7), but over such issues God will make you to laugh! Its a testimony filled week for you. Amen Open heaven begins with your spiritual dialogue in prayers. When Jesus prayed in Luke 3:21, the Bible says the " heavens opened". Hence the need for you to improve on your spiritual dialogue with the father. The links below provides you access to articles that talks about the principles from the prayer life of Jesus. LEAD YOUR GENERATION Superior knowledge gives you unrivalled leadership! What you know is what gives you an edge. This was the story of the children of Issachar: "And of the children of Issachar, which were men that HAD UNDERSTANDING of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment." 1 Chronicles 12:32 KJV They had understanding that others didn't have. Their unique understanding made them outstanding. This was what stood them out from their generation! What you know will always give you an edge! To lead a generation you must be beyond a generation to be beyond a generation you must know something that they don't know because ultimately what you know is what makes you to be known Fresh insight. Fresh revelation. Fresh information. Fresh perspective are all key to leading a generation in a new direction and the world always follow men with new revelations. Check it through history the men who led their generation had a fresh insight that the world lacks but ultimately craved!*Superior knowledge in any field is what gives you unrivalled leadership in that field*. Jesus came and brought higher knowledge and so the world follow him. He said in so many places in Matthew 5:21-22, 27-28, 31-32 "ye have heard it said unto you thou shalt not....But I say unto you..." "Ye have it heard it said...But I say unto you". Jesus came with superior knowledge that his generation never heard: "they might have told you this before, but I am saying something new now, something better, something of a higher standard". He offered the world better insights no wonder they marvelled at his wisdom and quipped, 'what wisdom is this?' The world followed him so much that they wanted to make him a political leader before he ran away from such worldly distractions! The world has gotten better with better and fresher understanding and it is the men who are conveyor of this new knowledge that has led the world! To lead your generation you must know better than them! Paul despite all that he knew craved for more. This was a man of whom Peter confessed that there are some things brother Paul says 'that are hard to understood'! No wonder he was the leading light among the Apostles. Yet this Paul longed for new revelations of God. He cried, 'that I may know him and the power of his revelation' Knowing God intimately will bring our minds to the new level of knowledge and understanding. This knowledge is what makes us lead our world and our generation. This is what we should crave as men posed to set the world on a new course. "The Lord sent a word unto Jacob(an individual) and it hath lighted upon Israel(a generation)" Isaiah 9:8. Open my mind to new vistas of knowledge oh Lord. Amen.
