The US was not happy about this and thus cut buying of our crude. The US then demanded the saudis to pump more oil into the global market to ease off prices which made it not economically feasible for China to continue in this trade format. And yes the Saudis have in the past on prompting of the US to flood the market. They did this in the early 70's against Iran.

Or how can we explain why the US as of today has more crude reserves than they ever had? The answer is simply that the US was buying more crude from Saudis and Canada to meet the shortfall from Nigeria!

By the wayu the much touted shale oil cannot produce the varried amount of petroluem resins needed in manufacturing but is best suited in providing conventional fuels. If you think Crude oil has more value as an energy source rather than as a source for synthetic derrivatives from plastics, resins, solvents as well as even pharmaceauticals then you know nothing about the reason behind the name black gold. China seeks crude more as an industrial input and not as a fuel for their cars!
