It is not in the interest of any government to serve the people from a distance. We have representatives and senators who won't hold townhall meetings with those who elected them. Their closest interaction is when they need votes. No wonder they debate some issues that people find annoying in the parliament. Not even in this age of social media. Some are on Facebook just telling people what is happening. Although this is good for accountability and dispersal of appropriate information, it is better when the elected create time for live interaction with the rest of the citizenry. This problem in the executives (at the Federal level ) will be resolved with the restructuring of the nation to empower the Local Government far more than the FG on issues relating to the people in their respective states- fiscally bringing the government closer. However, communication is also very key. If the government remains distant, more and more frustration will grow in the system and more damage control measures and unnecessary spending will be required. |
Esseite:Even the world, Na God make am and He no say make you leave because the devil is working in it. Fear not. Use every opportunity until Jesus returns-- so far it is godly and good for you. |
omohayek:Maybe if the mods made it frontpage, more would have given it attention. And the the "Solution Providers Only" caption.. maybe we have more interested in talking about the problems than the solution because many are just about the pain they feel, not the way the nation can come out of its pains. I hope Lalasticlacla will do something this time. |

preselect:For some, that will be true because they don't have the resources to take care their children but as a country, we should not make the mistakes of nations economically ahead of us like China and the Netherlands. It's tempting to want to control population. That's the cheap way out and will infringe on people's right to decide what goes on in their families. Those who take such approaches end up struggling with aging population with fewer young people to take advantage of their opportunities and utilize the capacities they've built over the years. They will end up begging people to come and live in their countries when their own people could have done so. The other options we have- and we still have time- are 1. to pursue innovations that is forward thinking(considering these issues). As they say, "Necessity is the mother of invention." And we will not lack ideas if we get intentional about getting them. Like the Chinese proverb says: "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." 2. As previously noted, strategic planning. This definitely include a futuristic rural, urban AND REGIONAL planning. |
Smithkafors:Is the federal government responsible for primary school environment too. ![]() |
wadetaw202:Yea. Those are part of the reasons we should have comprehensive planning with great foresight when it comes to development. We shouldn't repeat the mistakes countries like China and the US have made. We won't have the excuse(although we are already moving in that direction). It's not that development makes the pollution and degradation happen, not in this time and age of green solutions, it is irresponsibility, indiscipline and lack of implementable, strategic planning for development. |
According to Vanguard News, this was the original statement made by the Sport Minister, Solomon Dalung “Don’t forget that nobody even knew the team will emerge victorious but we were confident they will emerge victorious. All the federation would have done is to plan for process of participation and entitlement and when they win it is already established in sports tradition, when you win this is what you are entitled to.” |
preselect:Depending on how small the village is. Some of the skyscrapers are hospitals and other important services. They are built to maximize space, not necessarily primarily for aesthetics. The countries population keeps rising and will be close to half a billion in 35 years. If we keep building like we are doing today, our so called comparative advantage and opportunity to feed the world will be gone. |

Ban them first and let's see. If they've been told that the country cannot afford to support or reward them and they still decided to go for the love of country it will be a different matter. I think all our legislators, executives and ministers should get a salary cut this month and the monies should be used for the ladies since they didn't do their jobs well. |
Those who tell their subordinates to abide by this rule don't keep it. And you don't want to imagine how many hearts have been broken because someone decided to be faithful and loyal to the government for decades only to become beggars afterwards. I feel strongly about some of this issues. I hope the Reps will take this up and do the needful. |
I'm wondering what Lalasticlacla will do on this issue if he has power to change the law Something needs to be done here too ![]() |
OmaniPadmeHum:Yea. That's what they say but truth is that not only private businesses bring conflict of interest. Normal family issues can cause that too. Will the government say people should not belong to families? Assuming its even in an environment where people feel financially secure it will be better understood. |
Who's there? It seems out of touch with reality, making criminals out of people who want to secure their future rather than depend on a pension that may not be given and will be grossly inadequate or a gratuity that may never be received. |
Smellymouth:Hahahaha ![]() Thank God for your life |
What do you think about this public service rule in Nigeria? Should it be modified, removed or retained as it is? Note that it affects everyone working with the government- whether sweeper, teacher or Director. Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing paragraph, a public officer shall not: |
In summary, it's not just about doing right things but also about doing things right. When the government doesn't create succour and alternatives for people before trying to get the things right, there is a mass-resistance. *I'm learning fast.* |
givan:Meaning you didn't read the title correctly and definitely didn't read the news itself. |
When I see how Nigerians gravitate towards bad news and even what is bad about good news rather than the good news itself, it troubles me. Three habits changed my life and has helped me to get positive experiences sometimes just immediately after something negative seemed to have occurred. I believe if the rest of Nigeria develops this kind of habits our development will be faster and more positive things will happen. 1. The attitude of gratitude Make it a lifestyle to look out for something to be grateful for- even in seemingly bad situations. Sometimes instead of reacting to pain and disappointment I just give thanks to God and suddenly there is a reverse of situation although that's not my intention. Just understanding that God is good all the time and He is not responsible for any evil happening but can turn them around for good gave me the effrontery to do that. 2. Acknowledging what is good about others. When someone you don't expect to win an election starts doing positive things and you refuse to acknowledge that this is positive, your negative experience under that government can multiply. It gets more difficult to do positive things when people expect and so act to see the worse of you. So apart from you getting more conscious of the imperfections than the positives, you can actually start losing opportunities to see the positive. 3. Expecting the best and speaking in line with that expectation and not what I don't want Keeping hope alive is necessary for positive experiences to happen in the midst of a cycle of negatives but saying what you prefer to see instead of complaining about what you are currently experiencing is even more vital. The news media seems not to know that they are often responsible for the widespread feeling of hopelessness and despair in Nigeria when they constantly report what is negative. Many people suddenly develop that habit of expecting more negatives and definitely they get it. Even when good things happen, you see people focusing on the negatives because of this developed dangerous habit. |
Op please create a "referendum" on www.change.org with this post and share it. We need to take action. |
Who sent them?! When we have House of Representatives that dictates rather than represent.. that's a disaster. Who did they consult before generating such a bill. |
Please see a clinical psychologist for professional counselling. You are hurt and really need to heal. This is what is called generalization: one of the immature coping mechanisms. Just like hating all women because one juilted your brother or hating all teachers because some are abusive Buharimustdie: |
luv2luvu:This is serious. Please send to Channels Tv iWitness. They seem to take such information seriously. The government may not know or do anything if this media houses don't report it. God bless the Op |
I understand what you are saying. Christians need to believe God for protection more now and, except you are in the military on official assignment, you should not take someone else's life- Christians rather lay down their lives than help send someone in active sin to hell. Also, we are told in the Bible not to disobey the law for the Lord's sake and, in Nigeria, self-defense is outruled as a reason for gun purchase (I believe this ought not to be: only law abiding citizens will be affected by the rule, criminals like the ones killing others for religious reasons won't care.) I know that true Christians have better protections than is physically available. It however require faith in God's promises to access it- of which many are either ignorant or just allow fear and doubt to take over. May God help us to demonstrate always the faith that works with love. All the above however does not mean Christians can't defend their communities and even procure weapons for that purpose so far those involved are recognized by law to do so. It's just the same as vigilante. CoolFreeday: |
Totalman1:*Smiles* With the support of people like you who believe something bigger and better can come out of this nation, my administration will be able to restructure this nation to what will fast-track our development into not just a global superpower, but a role model at that. We need not make the mistakes of the EU. It is important that African nations develop a good foundation unique for each country and that our alliance does not make our people feel like their independence and what makes their nation unique has been again stolen from them in the name of a "United Countries of Africa" or AU. Nigeria especially needs to settle down and develop capacity first and, like you previously mentioned, deal its foundation. I have an intuition, though, that in 2023, Nigeria will still be here to conduct another executive and legislative election. |
@ Totalman1 It's a bitter pilll that we need to swallow. It is true that Nigerian s need to feel part of the decision taken to join us together. We need to be courageous to bring this up as a national debate again. What we can do is to sponsor a bill to the both national chambers to debate the issue. It will be great to create a platform where a trustworthy poll can be conducted by Nigerians on such issues of national interest that members of the parliament can see where the people they say they represent stand on such issues before they vote at the parliament. That's one of the innovations I intend to bring into governance in Nigeria. |
MMM pays with money collected from another person; bank pays with money from business profit. It's not quite like you contrasted the two. shophut: |
