I have mixed feelings for this commissioning because these retail stores will kill growth of local business, so I don't see how it will boost economy rather the revenue/ gains goes to pocket of foreign investors.

Meanwhile another one is presently ongoing at Abeokuta (Olumo mall) as it may outclass this palm mall in terms of its size. Very huge site I must say.

PoliticsDistant Government, Troubled State by PresidentElect1(op): 9:56pm On Dec 19, 2016
It is not in the interest of any government to serve the people from a distance.

We have representatives and senators who won't hold townhall meetings with those who elected them. Their closest interaction is when they need votes.
No wonder they debate some issues that people find annoying in the parliament.
Not even in this age of social media.
Some are on Facebook just telling people what is happening. Although this is good for accountability and dispersal of appropriate information, it is better when the elected create time for live interaction with the rest of the citizenry.

This problem in the executives (at the Federal level ) will be resolved with the restructuring of the nation to empower the Local Government far more than the FG on issues relating to the people in their respective states- fiscally bringing the government closer. However, communication is also very key.

If the government remains distant, more and more frustration will grow in the system and more damage control measures and unnecessary spending will be required.

It's interesting to see how little attention a constructive thread like this is getting. Had it been about fomenting another tribal e-war, there would probably have been 20 times the number of readers by now. I think that says it all about the sort of audience Nairaland is attracting.
Maybe if the mods made it frontpage, more would have given it attention.
And the the "Solution Providers Only" caption.. maybe we have more interested in talking about the problems than the solution because many are just about the pain they feel, not the way the nation can come out of its pains.

I hope Lalasticlacla will do something this time.
CrimeThe Profile Of The EFCC Boss Whose Confirmation Our Lawyermakers Delay by PresidentElect1(op):
Could there be something more behind this delay in confirmation of the EFCC Acting Chair? Reading his profile seems to bring some stuffs to light.

Story from Nigerian Biography website:

Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, the new acting Chairman of Economic and financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) a is a Kanuri from Borno state.
Ibrahim Magu attended the University of Maiduguri where he obtained a degree in Accountancy. Hence he is now a certified accountant, a trained financial crimes investigator with background in forensic accounting, and he also trained at the FBI institute and the London Metropolitan Police institute.

Ibrahim Magu served as head of the EFCC’s Economic Governance Unit (EGU) during the tenure of Nuhu Ribadu. He thereafter gained public attention when he led many high profile investigations against former governors including James Ibori of Delta State and the current Senate President Bukola Saraki of Kwara State.

He also reportedly worked with Ribadu to jail his brother-in-law and former Bank of the North chief, Shettima Bulama. Bulama was later pardoned by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ibrahim Magu is a member of the investigative committee convened by National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the procurement of arms in the Armed Forces from 2007 till now.

Ibrahim Magu has been described by Police sources as “a fearless investigator who can stand up to any duty,”.

Mr. Magu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, is a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption and was a former Head of the Economic Governance Unit (EGU) of the anti-graft agency.

Mr. Magu was one of the early recruits into the EFCC by the pioneer chairman of the commission, Nuhu Ribadu. He is seen by peers as an incorruptible and courageous officer and then made the head of the sensitive EGU, a unit in charge of investigations of senior public officials.

As head of the EGU, some of the investigations Mr. Magu spearheaded include the role of former Kwara State Governor and serving senator, Bukola Saraki, in the collapse of Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria, and James Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, who was convicted for money laundering in the United Kingdom.

But trouble started for the police officer after the controversial removal of Mr. Ribadu as chairman of the commission in December 2007.

In August 2008, Mr. Magu was accused of illegally keeping case files of top politicians being investigated by the commission. His house in Abuja was searched and his property carted away by operatives of the EFCC.

He was subsequently re-deployed to the police after days of detention with nothing incriminating found against him. He was later suspended from the police, going without salaries for several months.

Following his appointment as Chairman of the EFCC in 2011, Mr. Lamorde made the return of Mr. Magu to the EFCC a top priority...

then we have to do something about our population. teach the people about family planning. if we dont check our population growth, poverty, disease, war, and boko haram will control our population for us.
For some, that will be true because they don't have the resources to take care their children but as a country, we should not make the mistakes of nations economically ahead of us like China and the Netherlands.

It's tempting to want to control population. That's the cheap way out and will infringe on people's right to decide what goes on in their families.
Those who take such approaches end up struggling with aging population with fewer young people to take advantage of their opportunities and utilize the capacities they've built over the years. They will end up begging people to come and live in their countries when their own people could have done so.

The other options we have- and we still have time- are
1. to pursue innovations that is forward thinking(considering these issues). As they say, "Necessity is the mother of invention." And we will not lack ideas if we get intentional about getting them. Like the Chinese proverb says: "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

2. As previously noted, strategic planning. This definitely include a futuristic rural, urban AND REGIONAL planning.

The only problem with that so-called development is air and environmental pollution
Yea. Those are part of the reasons we should have comprehensive planning with great foresight when it comes to development. We shouldn't repeat the mistakes countries like China and the US have made. We won't have the excuse(although we are already moving in that direction).

It's not that development makes the pollution and degradation happen, not in this time and age of green solutions, it is irresponsibility, indiscipline and lack of implementable, strategic planning for development.

Some of the skyscrapers are hospitals and other important services. They are built to maximize space, not necessarily primarily for aesthetics.

The countries population keeps rising and will be close to half a billion in 35 years. If we keep building like we are doing today, our so called comparative advantage and opportunity to feed the world will be gone.

Yea. That's what they say but truth is that not only private businesses bring conflict of interest. Normal family issues can cause that too. Will the government say people should not belong to families?

Assuming its even in an environment where people feel financially secure it will be better understood.

Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing paragraph, a public officer shall not:

Except where he is not employed on full time basis, engage or participate in the management or running of any private business, profession, or trade but nothing in this sub-paragraph shall prevent a public officer from engaging in farming.

Nairaland GeneralThree Habits That Changed My Life by PresidentElect1(op): 3:36pm On Dec 09, 2016
When I see how Nigerians gravitate towards bad news and even what is bad about good news rather than the good news itself, it troubles me.

Three habits changed my life and has helped me to get positive experiences sometimes just immediately after something negative seemed to have occurred.
I believe if the rest of Nigeria develops this kind of habits our development will be faster and more positive things will happen.

1. The attitude of gratitude

Make it a lifestyle to look out for something to be grateful for- even in seemingly bad situations.
Sometimes instead of reacting to pain and disappointment I just give thanks to God and suddenly there is a reverse of situation although that's not my intention. Just understanding that God is good all the time and He is not responsible for any evil happening but can turn them around for good gave me the effrontery to do that.

2. Acknowledging what is good about others.

When someone you don't expect to win an election starts doing positive things and you refuse to acknowledge that this is positive, your negative experience under that government can multiply. It gets more difficult to do positive things when people expect and so act to see the worse of you. So apart from you getting more conscious of the imperfections than the positives, you can actually start losing opportunities to see the positive.

3. Expecting the best and speaking in line with that expectation and not what I don't want

Keeping hope alive is necessary for positive experiences to happen in the midst of a cycle of negatives but saying what you prefer to see instead of complaining about what you are currently experiencing is even more vital.

The news media seems not to know that they are often responsible for the widespread feeling of hopelessness and despair in Nigeria when they constantly report what is negative. Many people suddenly develop that habit of expecting more negatives and definitely they get it. Even when good things happen, you see people focusing on the negatives because of this developed dangerous habit.

PoliticsRe: Use Tithes To Buy Arms For Christians – FFK Backs Omatseye by PresidentElect1: 10:24am On Dec 08, 2016
I understand what you are saying. Christians need to believe God for protection more now and, except you are in the military on official assignment, you should not take someone else's life- Christians rather lay down their lives than help send someone in active sin to hell.

Also, we are told in the Bible not to disobey the law for the Lord's sake and, in Nigeria, self-defense is outruled as a reason for gun purchase (I believe this ought not to be: only law abiding citizens will be affected by the rule, criminals like the ones killing others for religious reasons won't care.)

I know that true Christians have better protections than is physically available. It however require faith in God's promises to access it- of which many are either ignorant or just allow fear and doubt to take over.
May God help us to demonstrate always the faith that works with love.

All the above however does not mean Christians can't defend their communities and even procure weapons for that purpose so far those involved are recognized by law to do so. It's just the same as vigilante.

@PresElect... What if u are aspiring to a position that may not be there in say, 3/4 years time? i.e. President of the FRN.

I'll give my support to anyone that can be bold enough to embark on CONCEIVING & BIRTHING a NEW NATION (MOVEMENT) that affects/reflects Africa.

#AfricaWithoutBorders
*Smiles*

With the support of people like you who believe something bigger and better can come out of this nation, my administration will be able to restructure this nation to what will fast-track our development into not just a global superpower, but a role model at that.

We need not make the mistakes of the EU. It is important that African nations develop a good foundation unique for each country and that our alliance does not make our people feel like their independence and what makes their nation unique has been again stolen from them in the name of a "United Countries of Africa" or AU.

Nigeria especially needs to settle down and develop capacity first and, like you previously mentioned, deal its foundation.
I have an intuition, though, that in 2023, Nigeria will still be here to conduct another executive and legislative election.
PoliticsRe: I Will Make A Million Low Income Nigerians Multi-millionaires by PresidentElect1(op): 11:19pm On Dec 06, 2016
@ Totalman1 It's a bitter pilll that we need to swallow. It is true that Nigerian s need to feel part of the decision taken to join us together. We need to be courageous to bring this up as a national debate again.
What we can do is to sponsor a bill to the both national chambers to debate the issue.

It will be great to create a platform where a trustworthy poll can be conducted by Nigerians on such issues of national interest that members of the parliament can see where the people they say they represent stand on such issues before they vote at the parliament.
That's one of the innovations I intend to bring into governance in Nigeria.
BusinessRe: MMM Participants In Fear As Ultimate Cycler Crashes by PresidentElect1: 7:59pm On Dec 06, 2016
MMM pays with money collected from another person; bank pays with money from business profit. It's not quite like you contrasted the two.

shophut:
The truth not told about MMM

Nigerians should expect a lot of pressure from the giants in the banking industries
promoting threads or post like this on social media platforms, simply because
MMM has really exposed them.

MMM is giving 30% interest for any money invested in the scheme which
no Nigerian bank can pay. This is to show Nigerian how much of their monies
have been stolen from them. Please be the judge MMM and a Nigerian Bank who
has really scammed Nigerians?

Secondly, MMM runs its system proactively by making sure member-to-member donation
is sustained on the inward flow of money. The number of help providers is way higher than
the number of people getting help. With this cycle of money flow in place nothing will
happen to the system.

Finally, Nigerians should see MMM as a platform for eliminating poverty. Members and intending
members of MMM should continue in the system even after you have received your pay out. This is
because by so doing there will not be any leak in the system. MMM is a great way all Nigerians
will survive the recession if we do all we can to sustain it. It is a proven system that will last a
lifetime if we build it with love and not selfish self interest.
