I'm sure PressMyButton will no longer think surrogacy is slavery, prostitution and exploitation now I guess you have never heard of secondary infertility. Doesn't matter if you have had a child before. |

descarado: A mum once did that for her married daughter.
A 53-year-old UK woman has given birth to a child she was carrying for her daughter, leading many in the media to exclaim that she 'has given birth to her own grandchild'. Annie Casserley acted as a surrogate for her daughter, 35-year old Emma Hattersley, who has a medical condition making her unable to withstand a pregnancy.
Mrs Hattersley has an extremely rare condition - she is thought to be one of only three people in the world affected by it - called Histiocytosis X. The cancer-like condition attacks the lungs, causing them to collapse, and means she is unable to do anything that puts too much strain on them such as having a general anaesthetic, flying, or becoming pregnant. In order to have a child of her own, therefore, she needed to use surrogacy. Her mother agreed to act as a surrogate for her and was assessed by doctors at the Good Hope NHS Hospital, Birmingham, who decided that even though she was 53, she was fit and healthy enough to undertake the pregnancy. In January, Mrs Hattersley's eggs were collected and fertilised in vitro by Mr Hattersley's sperm, before the resulting embryos were implanted into Mrs Casserley.
You know the problem with people like you. Ignorance.
By the way, this is one out of so many. Your problem is semantics. Generally they refer to it as surrogacy but there's a difference. The daughter in question had her egg, only needed a vessel. Both her egg and the sperm of her husband would be inseminated into her mother, that's IVF. However, when another woman's egg is needed to birth a child that's proper surrogacy. |

Agbegbaorogboye: Stop advertising your ignorance out of political difference
How is surrogacy slavery, prostitution and exploitation of a woman's body? Are you even aware that most surrogacy don't have sexual intercourse with the donor? Are you aware a woman's eggs can be harvested and implanted into another woman which will mean that the baby will carry the egg donor's DNA? So how do you mean biologically the baby is the surrogate mother's. Is any surrogate being forced to play the role? Differing with people politically is not a licence to lose your common sense It makes no sense to condemn surrogacy simply because someone you disagree with politically embraced it. It makes you sound like an ignorant extremist You're talking nonsense. I'm not talking politics here. It's an exploitation of another woman's body whether you chose to live in delusion or not. |

Mear23: Your assertion is not completely true.
In surrogacy. The eggs or sperm can come from an intending parents or a donor. But after fertilisation, another woman different from the intending parent will be implanted with the fertilised egg. That's IVF. However, if another woman donates her egg, that's surrogacy. I'm tired of repeating myself. |

thesicilian: IVF is an integral part of surrogacy, odeh! Don't mix it up. If it's the egg and sperm of the intended couple, regardless of the vessel, that's IVF but if the vessel provides her egg, that's surrogacy. Sorry but that's the reality. |

I don't want to say what's on my mind. However, this is double standards coming from Chimamanda who is a self acclaimed feminist. Is she not supposed to be a voice for women being a feminist?. Surrogacy is a form of slavery, prostitution, exploitation of a woman's body. She knew she didn't practice what she preaches, little wonder she didn't come out earlier. Like it or not, accept it or not, any baby born through surrogacy does not belong to you biologically. No matter how some states or countries might legalize it, biologically, the child isn't yours still. Well, I wish her well. But next time, stay one place, if you want to practice feminism, do it with your full chest, otherwise, commot. Reminds me of Linda Ikeji preaching abstinence but lo and behold, aunty was busy jumping on Uber to go and collect. I hate double standards.
PS; it seems some folks just want to argue for the sake of it. There's a reason she's called a Surrogate Mother 117 Likes 20 Shares |

Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has spoken about her decision to welcome twin sons via surrogacy, addressing the public reaction and societal pressures surrounding non-traditional paths to motherhood.
Speaking during the #WithChude Live talk hosted by media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, Adichie expressed disappointment over the way her personal decision became politicised online, stating that she chose to be transparent about the surrogacy to counter harmful narratives that could pressure other women.
She said, “There are certain things you cannot hide, you cannot hide the existence of two perfect human beings. People just went off with this thing, ‘She’s 47, she’s had babies,’ and I don’t like to lie about things that can be consequential for other people.
“I felt that there were many women who would then be pressured by people and be told ‘Look she’s 47 and she had twins, what about you?"
“An interviewer said to me that I looked so fantastic for someone who just had babies and I’m not going to say oh, thank you because that’s a lie so I said ‘Well, they were born by a surrogate,’ and apparently, I hear that there was a bit of noise about that.
“My boys are so precious to me, and I hated that anything about them would become politicised – so on the one hand I wished I hadn’t talked about it but on the other hand there is no way I am going to lie and claim that I have babies that I didn’t birth myself.”
Speaking about the stigma surrounding fertility challenges, Adichie said, “I think there is so much shame around issues of fertility, that I just think it’s too much of a burden for women.
“Women are ashamed when they have fibroids, women are ashamed when they have trouble getting pregnant, and I don’t believe in that sort of shame.”
She also responded to critics who view surrogacy as dehumanising and acknowledged that it can be done responsibly.
“They think that you cannot rent a woman’s body, they argue that it’s dehumanising. I think it can be, but I think it matters how it’s done. It can be done ethically.
“Also, the same people will say that a woman can do whatever she wants with her body. There’s a contradiction there… that was what all the noise was all about,” she said.
Despite the backlash, Adichie said she had no regrets and emphasised the joy her children have brought her.
She said, “I am hoping that if anything good comes out of this, it would be that more women will feel less ashamed of talking about reaching motherhood through non-traditional means.
“There are other women who have babies by surrogates but they sort of go and hide for nine months or people who adopt babies and they go and hide because our society is so judgemental, and I don’t think that that is good for anybody.
“I think my daughter and my babies are the greatest gifts I’ve been given, so, zero regrets.”
PUNCH Online reported in February that Adichie revealed she gave birth to twin boys in 2024, adding to her family, including her nine-year-old daughter, stating that she was always cautious about revealing too much, particularly when it came to her family.
She also expressed her commitment to raising her twin sons with values that promote gender equality and respect for women. https://punchng.com/video-i-have-zero-regrets-adichie-slams-shame-around-fertility-issues-defends-ethical-surrogacy/ 23 Likes 6 Shares

Ghana and Burkina is doing the same as the world is racing toward financial instability. Government need to get a hold of the gold mining in the country and significantly boost those reserves of all its minerals for our future. No let foreigners come and mine anyhow and steal. The Senate was seeking to increase our gold reserves from 4% to 30%, that would be great. We have abundance of gold in the country.
