TimeManager: The problem with Nigerian wailers is the fact that they don't see beyond " what's the price of yam in the market?", they're more concerned about their stomach than the health of the economy. Forgetting that If you don't have an economy, you can't even have food security, growth and development. The food inflation we all complain about is not as a result of government policies but as a result of human factor - na bandits, terrorists and herdsmen factor dey cause food crisis and high food costs. And I know you would say, it is Government responsibility to fight insecurity. And I can tell you as much that there's no other President that has killed more bandits and terrorists than the current President. However, you can't wipe out insecurity of over 16years in less than two years. So, pockets of attacks will never undermine the fantastic efforts of the NSA and the Military. Unfortunately, Nigeria. wailers will rather exaggerate these pockets of violence than see the successes of the Military. The economy is also on the pathway of recovery given where we were coming from, improved economic outlook has earned positive ratings from Fitch. Less debt to revenue ratio, net trade surplus, higher liquidity, stable currency, improved foreign reserves, gradual reduction in inflation, etc. But I will not be surprised if some people selling recharge cards or phone charger under the bridge start arguing with Fitch rating. I don't like talking too much. God bless Nigeria.

Politics › Conduct Legislative Business In Yoruba - Afenifere Tells South-West States by PressMyButton(op): 7:01pm On Apr 09, 2025 |
Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, has urged legislatures in south-west states to make Yoruba the primary language of conducting parliamentary business.
The organisation made the call during a caucus meeting held on April 7, at the Akure residence of Reuben Fasoranti, its leader.
The meeting, which was presided by Seinde Arogbofa, saw representatives from various state chapters, including Kogi and Kwara, in attendance.
Afenifere also asked governments in south-west states to make Yoruba the medium of teaching “at elementary levels of education”.
“Afenifere is very persistent on the need to ensure that Yoruba language is used more as a medium of communication,” the statement signed by Jare Ajayi, its national publicity secretary, reads.
“The body specifically called on Governments in Yoruba-speaking states to make Yoruba the medium of teaching at elementary levels of our education: kindergarten/nursery, primary and junior secondary schools.
“Afenifere also urged Legislatures in Yoruba-speaking states to make Yoruba the language of conducting their legislative businesses as much as possible.”
INSECURITY
The organisation also asked for a comprehensive redesign of Nigeria’s security architecture to respond to the escalating insecurity across the country.
Afenifere expressed serious concerns over the spate of kidnappings and extra-judicial killings, citing recent incidents in Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Ekiti, Oyo, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, Anambra, Edo, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kaduna.
The group urged the federal government and security agencies to delve deeper into the root causes of these security challenges and address them decisively.
The organisation implored governors in Yorubaland to strengthen the regional security network, particularly by increasing and training Amotekun personnel and deploying modern technology such as drones.
The group also reiterated its stance on the establishment of state police, calling for its immediate implementation.
Afenifere further urged state governors to address the issue of “unscrupulous herders terrorising farmers and disrupting agricultural activities”.
The group called on state governments to pay more attention to agriculture by revisiting and implementing policies on farm settlements and providing subsidised farm inputs and food items to the public. https://www.thecable.ng/conduct-legislative-business-in-yoruba-afenifere-tells-south-west-states/

Politics › Igbo Youths Call For Withdrawal Of Omokri’s Ambassadorial Nomination by PressMyButton(op): 2:46pm On Apr 09, 2025 |
Youths of Igbo ethnicity under the aegis of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately withdraw the name of former presidential aide Reno Omokri from the list of ambassadorial nominees, citing what it described as a glaring contradiction and a failure of integrity checks.
The development follows reports suggesting that Omokri, alongside other political figures including Senator Shehu Sani, and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, are among those being considered for ambassadorial appointments by the Federal Government.
In a statement issued Monday, the National President of the OYC, Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka, condemned Omokri’s nomination, describing it as “an institutional endorsement of hypocrisy and political opportunism.”
He expressed disbelief over the clearance of Omokri by security agencies, insisting that his past remarks about President Tinubu should have disqualified him from such a sensitive national assignment.
“It is contradictory that somebody that distrusted the president is now deemed fit to become Nigeria’s ambassador,” Igboayaka stated.
He referenced a series of Facebook posts made by Omokri in December 2022, in which the nominee described President Tinubu as “a known drug lord, who belongs in jail, not Aso Rock.”
“Clearing Reno Omokri by security agents for ambassadorial post is an indication that his allegations against Bola Ahmed Tinubu is factual, because according to Reno, ‘Tinubu is a known drug lord’,” the statement read.
The OYC leader further questioned the credibility of the screening process and the oversight of intelligence agencies.
“If Nigeria’s security agencies cleared Reno to represent Nigeria, does it imply that Reno’s allegations of a drug-related issue involving Tinubu (have been) substantiated?” he queried.
Igboayaka cited another post dated December 17, 2022, in which Omokri claimed:
“I went to Chicago myself and obtained verified documents. It will be a shame if this man gets anywhere close to Aso Rock.” In the same post, Omokri added:
“If anybody can get close enough to Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take a sample of his hair or urine this election will be over! Because with his hair and urine sample, a laboratory can analyze if he still takes drugs and what type of drugs he takes.”
The OYC has now urged security agencies to “maintain their credibility (and) demand that Reno Omokri furnish them with the ‘verified drugs documents from Chicago’ which he asserted he acquired in 2022 and furnish the drug deal business to Nigerians.
According to Igboayaka, Omokri has disqualified himself from holding any government position after making “unsavoury and unsubstantiated allegations” against the same administration he now seeks to serve.
“Reno Omokri’s criticism of the Nigerian government and certain politicians seems to be motivated by personal political gains rather than a commitment to strengthening democracy in Nigeria,” he added.
He warned the presidency to tread cautiously, noting that nominating Omokri sends the wrong message to Nigerians.
“The presidency should know that clearing of Reno Omokri implies and confirms the perception of Nigerians that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration lacks integrity and credibility,” the statement concluded. https://politicsnigeria.com/igbo-youths-call-for-withdrawal-of-omokris-ambassadorial-nomination/?

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday, April 7, received Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria Désirée of Sweden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as part of her three-day official visit to Nigeria aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.
The Crown Princess, who arrived at the State House, was welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, and later held a closed-door meeting with the Vice President.
Shettima described her visit as a significant step toward fostering deeper institutional relations and promoting cultural exchange between Nigeria and Sweden.
This marks Crown Princess Victoria’s return engagement with Shettima, following his visit to the Royal Palace in Stockholm in October 2024. Her trip, scheduled from April 7 to April 9, underscores Sweden’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in key sectors including trade, green energy, technology, and structured migration.
Also on Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, hosted the Crown Princess after she met with Shettima at his office in Abuja. In his remarks, Tuggar noted that 2025 marks the 56th year of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Sweden.
The minister disclosed that the discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in emerging areas such as renewable energy, innovation, and sustainable development. Swedish Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, Andreas Carlson, was also present at the meeting.
As part of her engagements, Princess Victoria was taken on a guided tour of the Atrium Art Gallery located within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She also announced the opening of Sweden’s largest innovation hub in Africa, located in Lagos, which is expected to further boost economic and trade relations between the two countries. A key highlight of her visit is the commissioning of the new Swedish Trade Office in Lagos.
Her trip follows a trend of high-profile royal visits to Nigeria in recent years. In May 2024, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, visited Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games, while in November 2018, King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) and Queen Camilla visited Nigeria during a broader West African tour focused on peacebuilding, environmental issues, and youth entrepreneurship.

Politics › 5 PDP Governors Ready To Join APC, Unsure Of Success Of Coalition - Saraki by PressMyButton(op): 2:56pm On Apr 08, 2025 |
The former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has disclosed that the current political coalition by some former governors against President Bola Tinubu may not work, even as he disclosed that five of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP are already on their way to joining ruling party, APC.
During a recent visit to Ilorin for the Nikkah ceremony of the Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Suleiman Faruk Onikijipa, Saraki reportedly met with a select group of loyalists at his Broadway residence. At the private gathering, the former governor is said to have shared his assessment of the political landscape.
A senior insider at the meeting told Daily Trust that Saraki categorically ruled out any plan to return to the APC, blaming such rumours on certain APC actors attempting to sow confusion.
“We discussed it during the meeting and he debunked it,” the source said.
Regarding the ongoing merger talks among opposition figures, the source disclosed that Saraki is sceptical about the feasibility of registering a new party or getting the best out of any of the already registered ones before the 2027 polls.
“He believes Tinubu, being a smart politician, won’t allow INEC to register any new political party. Besides, many governors from both APC and PDP have pledged loyalty to the president in hopes of securing their political futures,” he added.
The implication, he explained, is that opposition governors are unlikely to fund any new coalition, hence Saraki’s reluctance to publicly align with the movement.
“Saraki unsure of success of coalition in 2027, to adopt Wike’s pattern of remaining in PDP and collaborating with ruling government to remain relevant at the centre.
“Many governors from both APC and PDP have pledged loyalty to the president in hopes of securing their political futures. The implication, is that opposition governors are unlikely to fund any new coalition, hence my reluctance to publicly align with the movement.
“With what is on ground, the possibility of me (Saraki) joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is nil. No current APC governors is ready to defect to the PDP or SDP, infact, I can count about 5 PDP governors who are almost with the APC. The remaining 7 PDP governors are not willing to fund the party. https://dailytrust.com/inside-sarakis-moves-ahead-of-2027-elections/

Politics › FG Signs $27 Million Deal For LNG Project In Ajaokuta by PressMyButton(op): 6:52pm On Apr 07, 2025 |
The Federal Government, through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, has signed a $27 million deal with the LNG Arete to develop a Liquified Natural Gas project in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
This project, according to the parties, will aid the transportation of gas to other parts of the country, especially the North.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday, Micheal Oluwagbemi, program director of PCNGI noted that LNG Arete limited have gone through various processes and commited about $12 million as counterpart funding for the project.
Oluwagbemi stated that the project is projected to cost a total of $27.3 million, with $6 million being contributed by the PCNGI and additional investment from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund.
He announced that the completion period for the project is 12 to 18 months, adding that equipment required were already available.
According to him, the Government’s involvement in the project increased the capacity from three million scuffs of gas to seven million standard cubic feet.
“This is what we want when we ask for private sector partnership. We want companies that do not just come to us seeking for freebies, but ones that have already done their work, developed their project, they have identified sources of funding that can plod along with us.
“Our work as government is then to catalyze the finishing funding to make that project a reality, to scale that project. Maybe this project will have a 3mm scope if we don’t come in but now it’s 7mm scope a day and that is our work as government.
But even more importantly is that we are putting incentives in place, which is part of this package of what we’re signing today to fast tracking permits and enabling gas allocation,” he said.
Oluwagbemi explained that despite the country’s abundant gas resources, the constraint has always been not just how to produce it, but also how to distribute it.
He explained the benefits, saying the project is expected to make gas more readily available in the northern parts of the country.
In addition to creating about 100 jobs at the plant in Ajaokuta, he disclosed that three processing plants will be added in each of the 19 northern states.
He said the need to ensure Nigerians enjoy the benefits of cheaper, cleaner, safer, and more reliable gas has driven the PCNGI to seek immediate and sustainable solutions.
“We are here today because Nigerian people have believed in the president’s vision that this country, a country blessed with gas in over 30 of our 36 states, has no business being solely dependent on oil. Gas is cheaper, safer, and more reliable.
“Nigerian people’s belief also meant that all across this country, especially in the far north, there has been increasing demand to be able to access gas to enable transportation and other sectors.
The project is not just a solution that will immediately solve the problem of unlocking gas resources to the north but will also, over the long term, still be quite useful for the economy when those gas resources are in the north.
And that is why the mini LNG technology that we now have, that we have access to, cuts. Why does it cut? With mini LNG, we will be democratizing access to gas resources across Nigeria.
“The piped gas that currently gets to Ajaokuta can be liquefied. As you see in this diagram, which I have availed myself of, to demonstrate how this will happen. From the producing fields, our project will focus on a liquefication plant and an implant storage at Ajaokuta.
“And the virtual pipeline trucks will be able to move gas in, of course, in denser form, being liquid, over further distances across the north of Nigeria. And this, of course, can then be used on sites at L-CNG stations that will be located across the Nigerian northern region.
And even beyond that, the regions beyond that region, which is the whole West African coast, to transform that liquefied natural gas to compressed natural gas that can be utilized by power plants as well as our vehicles and other industries,” he added.
In her remarks, LNG Arete’s project director, Hajara Pitan, said that the project will deepen Nigeria’s participation in the gas market.
She noted that the major reason for the gas sector’s lack of development has been the expensive infrastructure.
“But with the mini LNG technology, we can participate as Nigerians in this sector in a major way. Our aim is clear in LNG Arete: to support the federal government in deepening gas utilization across Nigeria, especially in the underserved regions of northern Nigeria.
“This project is going to be completed in a 12 to 16-month timeline. And we’re excited for what it does, not just for mobility CNG, which is one of our major targets, but for industrialization in the region and the employment of youth in that region,” she said.
Also speaking, Executive Director, Portfolio, Ministry of Finance Incorporated, MOFI, Tajudeen Ahmed, described the project as a welcome development and stated that MOFI fully supports it. https://punchng.com/fg-signs-27m-deal-for-lng-project-in-ajaokuta/?amp

The Federal Government is set to flag off construction of the Cross River Section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on April 14. The section is known as Section B3 of the coastal highway project.
The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, made the disclosure at a stakeholders engagement on Section Two of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project in Lagos on Sunday.
“We are going there, to Cross River, on the 14th, to flag off the construction. By 15, we also go to Akwa Ibom to flag off.
“That 65km is the worst terrain. It is 65km times two, which is 130km,” he said.
On the second legacy project, Sokoto-Badagry Highway, the minister noted that one section in Sokoto was 120km.
“The third section of Sokoto-Badagry is going to start from Badagry, but we have a few challenges. “We have rivers of three kilometres to cross. That is a lot of money.
“We have proposed four options, which I am going to be discussing with Mr President, and whichever option he chooses, that is what we are going to choose.”
Umahi gave the assurance that procurement regarding the project would start as soon as the discussions were over, after which work would start. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/04/fg-to-flag-off-cross-river-section-of-coastal-highway-april-14/
