I see myself always flying especially when I am In danger.I just run, the next thing I am flying.I ve also had an instance where in the dream, people see flying as a taboo so when they see me fly they want to avoid me.some of those times, I wake up feeling sad that I flew in the dream.

oluwaseyi000:

Why we were fired?
I joined this company last year, few days after finishing my NYSC, they have the highest number of software developers in Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch

They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking

2. How did the firing process happen?
We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened

Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa

3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million

Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched

I always laugh when people complain there is no job in Nigeria, less than 5 month after leaving my previous company I have turned down almost 4 other offers some even paying than my current one

I so much saw the retrenchment coming that I once created a similar thread as this https://www.nairaland.com/5352267/why-how-loose-last-jobwhy-how-loose-last-jobh
hello bro.May I ask you few questions?

Share your experience with us if you have ever been fired. It would be better if we can share:

1. Why we were fired?
2. How did the firing process happen?
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

So, I’ll start:

Sometimes last year, I got an unbelievable offer (well above #750k) at a remote company. I bought a PC, subscribed for large data and set-up a workspace. On Monday which was resumption day, I turned on my PC, logged in and started the online meeting… everything went well for the first day and I got introduced to my colleagues. My friend and I actually got employed for same position, so we usually chatted while working. To be onboarded, we had to install a productivity monitoring tool on our PCs, we were told everything we did on the PC would be captured if the tool was turned ON but I really don’t know why I cared less.

On Wednesday same week, we had a short and simple test, during the test, I asked my friend for an answer as I wasn’t so sure, he responded and that was it.

On Thursday, I had a quick one-on-one call with my manager, I was fired. Apparently, I wasn’t supposed to ask for assistance while taking the test. I apologized but the answer was a straight NO (you sabi how oyinbo people strict). So in other words, I was sacked because I cheated ☹.

Well, they paid me for the few days I worked

I have experienced other sad situations, but this has to be the worst. I was so depressed, the following Sunday, I went to Church and it was while Pastor asked us to greet our neighbor, I remembered I didn’t brush… LMAO.

Now, I got something with abit lesser pay but still very chilled grin
I wish to ask you a few questions

Stories like this and what I see in marriage these days makes marriage scare the shiit outta me.

shutup! Most marriages go through this phase. At the first three months of every marriage, issues like this often than not comes up; who give authority, who obeys authority, how finances can be planned out to favour the both parties, limits for extended family member and other minor issues that are not strange from every other marriage. As time goes on, with good understanding and compromise from all asaundry, everyone tends to know their places and things relatively start moving on smoothly.

Did you fill the forms by yourselves and is this the first time of applying for us visa? I doubt a change of name has anything to do with it. It could either be the application or your brothers status. If your brother is graduating and you haven’t seen him in 12 years, did he go to US with a study visa or changed it from there? If he left on a visit and never returned, then the chances of you n your mum going and not coming back is high. You can always try again and hopefully it becomes successful.
well,my brother travelled as a PhD student. The 12 years response I gave to the question of "the last time I saw my brother?" Comprised of the years he spent in Uk for his masters and the time he relocated to the US for his PhD.He was retained at the school he graduated from and has a work permit.

I and my mum went to Abuja embassy but were sadly refused
This is our transcript:
Mum: good morning
Vo: passport pls
Me: I'm with her
Vo: Your passport
Vo: Why re you going to south Carolina
Me: Going for my brother's graduation
Vo: to my mum...are you married ( I was shocked)
Mum: yes of course
Vo: To me,are you married
Me: no,but I'm engaged
Vo: What's your relationship with my mum
Me: she's my mum
Vo:When was the last time you saw your brother
Me: Almost 12 years
Vo: I'm sorry, I won't be giving you visa today
Me: Ok.Thank you.

N/b before now my mum had used her maiden name,my compound name and lately my Dad's name which was duely changed in a news paper publication..

I'm thinking that must have played out with on the nature of weird questions he asked.

Can anyone brainstorm on this with me?

Please am interested in the materials graciouslymine@gmail.com
quote author=boco2126 post=73293040]On this IELTS issue...my two cents.

LISTENING. At weekends, practice speaking with your wife/husband, friend, son/daughter etc. Write out questions and tell them to ask you (under exam conditions). I finished a WHOLE 30 leaves notebook for listening practice (yeah l work an 8 to 5 and live on the mainland with my office on the island -remember, no excuses!). Always check your wrong answers and replay those portions and find out what you didn't hear properly. I used youtube for listening/speaking/reading.

3. There's this ielts expert too, one Ryan (cannot remember his surname) that l think is underrated. I used his tips for writing. He talks about 15 sentences max for writing. 3 paragraphs with 4 sentences and the closing paragraph should have 3 sentences. This keeps you in check and you already know what to write before the exam, all you will be waiting for on the ielts day is the topic given! I can share his materials if you drop your email address.
For writing, write letter and essays! Don't read what someone else wrote. Write yours too. Some people practise writing by reading another's work -WRONG! write yours too and compare. Minimum letters to write on different topics - 10. Minimum essays - 20. Revise your work and look for better ways to reconstruct your sentences. I suggest you write with pencil on your exam day so you can erase if need be.

4. For reading - use youtube. It also has a timer, so practice using the time and don't stop the timer or pause the video. The easiest comprehension in reading are the first two. Spend less time there. Say 5 mins tops for each. You do not need to UNDERSTAND nada. Just look at the instructions (very important), then the questions, then scroll through the passages for the answers. You need all your time for the last two passages. They are more technical.

5. For speaking - Be confident, relaxed and know your basic english and introduction (see ieltsliz). See this as an interview. We all attend interviews don't we? I got a list of 42 likely cue cards from ieltsliz blog (l think she said they change it every 3 months but she always update the cue card questions) and l practiced the 42 different topics and l always set my two minutes timer with my phone. You can be in the BRT or your car and practice this one, or when walking down the street or whilst doing chores at home, or lying down in your bed doing nothing (l did this. Some days, people will think you are going crazy because you are talking to yourself, but...who no go no know). One of the 42 questions l practiced was my cue card during my speaking test -something on my pet animal (l was wondering "madam why me? Animal kwa?" but because l had practised earlier, the examiner had to cut me off when it was two minutes. I just went on and on.

4. Lastly and certainly not the least...the place of PRAYER. I'm catholic, so when l saw the prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino here, l made a mental note to say it. I started saying it every day from September till i wrote my exam on the 1st of November. I even added a 9 days St. Joseph of Cupertino novena with prayer and fasting which ended on the 31st of October (l'm that extra oh. I left no chances). I asked my family to add me in their prayers too. So, pray, pray and pray. Whatever works for you. Someone dropped one St. prayer here on financial assistance for POF, best believe l'll look for that prayer and do it too!

5. People have done it, you too can. Don't be discouraged if you have tried more than once. We don't give up on this thread oh. Being here has taught me a different level of selflessness and never say never spirit. People you don't even know are quick to help and empathise and l am still in awe of you guys.

6. Please drop your email address so l can send the Ryan materials to you.

This too shall pass!

All the best everyone and my apologies for the long post.

Social media could undoubtedly be the first culprit for depressions. So much packaging and fake life there that people want to meet upto.In the process, they loose contentment and consequently happiness.

Please is this possible or what other means can we use to get an early date. Thank you.
