Nairaland / General / Nigeria Dream by Pringozie02(m): 11:31pm On Sep 29, 2013
In 1983, Bamanga Tukur was the Governor of the defunct Gongola State (now Adamawa & Taraba) and 30 years later, he is today the Chairman of the ruling Party, The PDP; Dr. Bello Halliru was commissioner in the Old Sokoto State (now Sokoto, Kebbi & Zamfara) and 33 years after he is today Minister of Defence; Major General David Mark(rtd) was the military governor of Niger State in 1984 and 28years later he is today the Senate President; Gov. Murtala Nyako was the governor of Niger State in 1976 and 36years later he is today the Governor of Adamawa State; Ogbonnaya Onu was governor of Abia State in 1992 and 20years after he is today the National Chairman of ANPP; Gov. David Jonah Jang was the governor of Benue State in 1985 and 27years after he is today the governor of plateau state; and Martins Elechi the Ebonyi State Governor is over 80 years old! Only in Nigeria is this possible, where the youth of today have no hope into the future! Where do we go from here? People Deceive People (PDP), 1985, IBB was the president of Nigeria and our teachers told us that Buhari was the former Head of state..Our teacher also called us "the leaders of tomorrow".. 27years later, IBB and Buhari are still contesting for Presidency..Its either our teacher lied to us about being the leaders of tomorrow..Or tomorrow is yet to come.. Who's fooling who? Some of us ran out of the country,Obasanjo went abroad chasing them, telling all nations to deport Nigerian youths. Let's stand and fight for our right cos we are the leaders of Today... From strike in health sector, to the labour, to judiciary, to Education and today our students are home lavishing!Pls let all youth come to an alliance and fight for the unborn. We can't continue like this. Pass it to everyone if you believe in the NIGERIA DREAM. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I signed it,will you do the same by sending to all your contacts?

UK Scientists Unveil Mobile Phone Powered By Urine

Ieropoulos holding the phone.| credits: dailymail.co.uk

Mobile phone owners could soon be able to give their batteries a boost with their own urine.British scientists at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory have developed a way of using urine as a power source to generate electricity and claim to have created the world’s first microbial fuel cells (MFC) powered mobile phone. While many people might turn their noses up at the energy source, the researchers said that it is the ‘ultimate waste product’ and does not rely on the erratic nature of the wind or the sun.

The scientists shared their breakthrough in the Royal Society of Chemistry Journal of Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics.Dr. Ioannis Ieropoulos, an expert at harnessing power from unusual sources using microbial fuel cells at the University of West England, Bristol, which was also involved in the research, said the urine-powered phone is a ‘world first’.

“No-one has harnessed power from urine so it’s an exciting discovery. Using the ultimate waste product as a source of power to produce electricity is about as eco as it gets.“One product that we can be sure of an unending supply is our own urine. By harnessing this power as urine passes through a cascade of MFCs, we have managed to charge a Samsung mobile phone.”

He believes that the reliability of the fuel source is a big selling point. He added, “The beauty of this fuel source is that we are not relying on the erratic nature of the wind or the sun; we are actually re-using waste to create energy.“So far the microbial fuel power stack that we have developed generates enough power to enable SMS messaging, web browsing and to make a brief phone call.”

However, he said that making a long call on a mobile phone is far more power hungry.“Making a call on a mobile phone takes up the most energy but we will get to the place where we can charge a battery for longer periods.“The concept has been tested and it works – it’s now for us to develop and refine the process so that we can develop MFCs to fully charge a battery.”

Microbial fuel cells are energy converters that turn organic matter directly into electricity by utilising the metabolism of live micro-organisms.

Ieropoulos said, “Essentially, the electricity is a by-product of the microbes’ natural life cycle, so the more they eat things like urine, the more energy they generate and for longer periods of time.”

The electricity output of MFCs is relatively small and the researchers are currently only been able to store and accumulate low levels of energy into capacitors for short charge and discharge cycles.

However they claim that this is the first time that scientists have been able to directly charge the battery of a device such as a mobile phone and it should be seen as a significant breakthrough. They believe that their research, which was funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Gates Foundation and the Technology Strategy Board, has the potential to be installed in bathrooms.

The scientists think that the technology could be installed into domestic bathrooms in the future to harness the urine and produce sufficient electricity to power showers and lighting…or at least electric shavers.

Ieropoulos said: “We are currently bidding for funding to work alongside partners in the US and South Africa to develop a smart toilet. Watch this space.’

What are MFCs

•Microbial fuel cells are energy converters that turn organic matter directly into electricity by utilising the metabolism of live micro-organisms

•The electricity is a by-product of the microbes’ natural life cycle

•The more they eat things like urine, the more energy they generate and for longer periods of time

•The electricity output of MFCs is relatively small and the researchers are currently only been able to store and accumulate low levels of energy into capacitors for short charge and discharge cycles.

Nairaland / General / The Rapture by Pringozie02(m): 5:19pm On Jul 14, 2013
From Apostle E. A. Adeboye.
I saw it again. This time more scary. The end-time is more than nigh. It will happen like a flash unexpected and time shall be no more for repentance. In my dream,I didn't make it to heaven despite I was saying my last prayer for forgiveness of sins, it was as if God shut his ears. I saw multitude of people running into a church. But inside that church, screaming and shouting everywhere;people making utterances to heaven. Behold it was as if a strange spirit entered into some people more clearly,I remember seeing an old man who was beside me whom the said spirit entered into and as he let out a cry,he disappeared and few other people. At that point,I realized that the rapture has taken place. I cried the more. Immediately, the devil took over and started making mockery of the left over Christians. He had a register of everyone's name.... At this point,I woke up. The end is more than near. Don't keep this message and don't get annoyed when u receive this just do the whole world a favour and keep broadcasting His coming, u might save a lost soul. God bless you

Nairaland / General / Is Nigeria A Cemetery by Pringozie02(m): 9:04am On May 05, 2013
Read this,it's very amusing. Nigerians when they loot money, they keep it in Switzerland. When sick, they go to Germany or India. When investing, they go to America. When buying Mansions, they visit London. When shopping they go to Dubai. When on holidays, they visit Paris or Bahamas. When educating their children, they select Europe. When praying, they go to Saudi Arabia or Jerusalem. BUT, when they DIE, they all want to be BURIED in NIGERIA.Please, help me ask them, is NIGERIA A CEMETARY?
