Emmanuel Ante: Building Systems, Brands, and Belief in Africa's Marketing Future _How Operational Discipline and Strategic Vision Are Reshaping African Marketing Excellence_ Emmanuel Ante represents a new generation of African marketing leaders—one less concerned with visibility and more focused on building sustainable systems. As Chief Operating Officer of QVT Media, a Nigerian marketing communications and media strategy firm, he operates at the intersection of business operations, brand strategy, and execution discipline. His work spans financial services, Pharmaceuticals, FMCG, development organizations, and large-scale social impact campaigns. But what distinguishes Ante is not just the breadth of his portfolio—it's his unwavering commitment to operational consistency in an industry that often prioritizes creative flair over structural rigor. Ante's approach to marketing is anchored in a straightforward conviction: Africa does not lack creativity. It lacks structure, investment discipline, and operational consistency. "Creativity can inspire," he has said, "but systems sustain." This philosophy shapes how he builds teams and delivers campaigns. Rather than chasing fleeting trends, he focuses on three core principles: Clarity of strategy, Measurable outcomes, and Scalable systems that allow creativity to compound Colleagues and collaborators describe him as methodical, composed, and solutions-oriented—qualities that are increasingly valuable in an industry where volatility is the norm. What motivates Ante most is Africa's untapped marketing potential. The continent presents a unique paradox: fragmented media ecosystems, economic volatility, talent migration, and rapidly evolving consumer behavior—yet enormous opportunity lies within these very challenges. Ante views these conditions not as constraints, but as catalysts for innovation. He has consistently emphasized that African agencies must learn to compete globally while remaining deeply rooted in local insight. Cultural understanding, he argues, is Africa's competitive advantage—not a limitation to be overcome. This perspective informs QVT Media's work across over 200 radio and television stations, premium global and local platforms including CNN, UEFA Champions League, Spanish LaLiga, and Big Brother Naija, alongside multiple digital platforms, out-of-home assets, and large-scale experiential activations. The firm's ability to orchestrate integrated campaigns at scale reflects this operational maturity. A recurring theme in Ante's professional philosophy is sustainability—not merely in the environmental sense, but in business continuity and institutional resilience. He advocates for agencies to: Build stronger financial models, Invest in talent development, Adopt technology more aggressively, and Measure marketing's contribution to business growth, not just brand awareness "The future of marketing on this continent," he observes, "will be shaped by firms that combine creativity with data, automation, and operational efficiency." This perspective aligns with global trends where marketing functions are increasingly held accountable for revenue impact and strategic business outcomes not just campaign visibility. Ante is also motivated by marketing's role in economic development. Effective communication, he believes, can accelerate product adoption, support entrepreneurship, influence behavior change, and strengthen institutions. Having worked on campaigns that intersect with social impact and public sector initiatives, he recognizes the broader responsibility that comes with shaping narratives at scale. For him, marketing is not simply about persuasion it is about enabling progress. This conviction shapes his leadership style. Those who work with him note his emphasis on team collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning. His commitment to developing younger professionals reflects a long-term view: Africa's creative economy will only grow if talent pipelines are strengthened. His early leadership training through AIESEC instilled a foundational belief: leadership is influence, alignment, and creating clarity in ambiguity. These principles remain central to his work today. Looking ahead, Ante remains focused on positioning African marketing capabilities globally while strengthening local ecosystems. He believes recognition will follow when agencies consistently deliver quality, innovation, and measurable value. His work reflects a steady commitment to that objective—not through shortcuts or visibility campaigns, but through disciplined execution, systems thinking, and belief in Africa's potential. In a sector defined by rapid change and intense competition, Emmanuel Ante's trajectory illustrates a leadership model anchored in discipline, vision, and institutional thinking. For him, the future of marketing on the continent is not uncertain. It is simply unfinished work.

Ojukwu Varsity Don Distances Self From Alleged Fraudulent Award Of Marks, Certificates Chike Osegbue, a Professor of Political Economy and Development Studies in the Department of Political Science, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Ignariam says he cannot administer examinations to students who did not meet the criteria as stipulated in the University guidelines. Osegbue said this in Awka while reacting to a 3-month suspension slammed on him by the Vice chancellor of the University for allegedly not teaching and examining students on courses assigned to him. Osegbue was suspended through a letter dated Jan. 7, 2025 and signed by the Registrar, Chris U. Obi on behalf of the Vice Chancellor purportedly for refusing to teach PSC 811: Environmental Politics and Sustainable Development, a postgraduate course. “Sequel to your response to the query issued you dated Dec. 3 2025 for not teaching PSC 811, assigned to you during the second Semester of 2024/2025, as alleged, I am directed to suspend you from the University for a period of three months, effective Jan. 8, 2026. “You are to resume duties in the University on April 8, 2026, depending on the outcome of the investigation of the Disciplinary Committee. “You should immediately hand over any University or Department property in your custody to the Chief Security Officer and should not be seen within or around the University while you are on this suspension without an official invitation by the Vice Chancellor,” it said. Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Osegbue, a leading candidate in the Vice Chancellor selection process said he would not be coerced into examining students who were admitted less than one month to the exams and did not attend lectures. He said he was available to teach the course but there were no students registered to be taught the course during the required lecture period. Osegbue said the students in question did not meet the requirement that postgraduate student should attain at least 75 percent lecture attendance, calculated over a minimum of nine weeks of intensive lectures. He called on the PG Board to cancel all examinations written by students who failed to meet the eligibility criteria in the interest of the integrity of the university, public perception of academic standards and awarded certificates. According to him, I declined to participate in the awarding of unearned grades or in the certificate racketeering practices into which COOU has unfortunately degenerated. “The procedure that the Postgraduate (PG) Board of each department should consider applications and recommend qualified candidates for admission was not followed in admitting the students referenced in the query. “The published timetable indicated that examinations would commence on Sep. 2 2025 and PSC 811 was scheduled for that same date but the 12 students who authored the petition against me were admitted between 28 days and eight days before examinations commenced. “In line with the academic regulations of the PG School of COOU, none of these students met the eligibility requirement of 75 percent attendance over nine weeks of lectures, only one student attended two lectures. “Despite their ineligibility, these students were permitted to sit for examinations in courses other than PSC 811, contrary to Section 23.1(b)(i) which stipulates 14 weeks of lectures and two weeks of examination totalling 16 weeks per semester. “This exemplifies the ongoing mass production of grades and certificate racketeering that has characterized COOU over the past eight years and worsened since 2023,” he said. Osegbue said there was an urgent need to end what he called the culture of certificate racketeering, deterioration and abuse of administrative and academic regulations within the University. “This systemic decay becomes even clearer when viewed alongside the findings of three separate university investigative committees formed to investigate certificate racketeering in the Faculty of Law. “Investigations revealed that 70 students were graduated without proper examination records, some of them had withdrawn from the programme at early stages, including from 100 level. However, the university administration has suppressed the reports and prevented them from being sent to Council for action. “I wish to reiterate that the students who later admitted to being coerced into signing the petition against me were not eligible to sit for the first semester examinations,” he said.

How Police In Imo Allegedly Arrested, Tortured Mmesoma On Trumped Up Allegations *PERSONAL VICTIM ACCOUNT* (As narrated by Ms. Chukwuyere Princess Mmesoma during interviews with legal representatives of the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre – RULAAC) My name is Chukwuyere Princess Mmesoma. I am from Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. I am a trainee nurse at Mother of Mercy Hospital and Maternity, Umuna, Orlu, and I also work part-time at Evergreen Pharmaceutical Company, Ndi Owerri, Orlu. I am not a full-time staff of the company. I only work there on my off-duty days or after completing my morning or afternoon nursing shifts. *Arrest and Deceptive Removal from Workplace* On 16 July 2025, after completing my morning shift at the hospital, I went to the pharmaceutical company for work, signed the attendance register, and resumed my duties. While I was working, my employer questioned why I did not come to work every day. I explained that I was a part-time staff and only came on my off days. He then asked me to follow him downstairs. When I got downstairs, I met two women who later turned out to be police officers. They asked for my phone. I told them it was upstairs, and they followed me to retrieve it. I asked if I could also bring my charger, and they agreed. After that, the two women asked me to enter their vehicle. I asked my employer where we were going, but he said nothing. When I asked the women, they told me that I would know when we got there. I had no reason to suspect anything and entered the vehicle. It was only when we arrived that I realised I had been taken to a police station. *Initial Detention and Accusations* At the Orlu Area Command, I was taken to the DPO’s office and later to another office. I was ordered to unlock my phone and remove all privacy and security settings. Shortly after, the DPO sent for me and asked if I knew someone called Ebube. I said I only knew two people with that name at my workplace. He accused me of lying and showed me a photograph of a man I did not recognise. I was asked to call my phone numbers and was questioned about my OPay account. I was told that my account had been used to receive money from criminals. This shocked me. When they checked my account and found nothing, the accusation changed. The DPO told me that Ebube, “X-Money” (Ifeanyi Stanley), and others were armed robbers, that Ebube was my boyfriend, and that I had travelled with him to places I had never been to, including Enugu and Ideato. I denied all of this. I was also told that a female voice recording existed and that it was my voice. I insisted it was not. *Torture, Sexual Abuse, and Coercion* At that point, the DPO instructed the two female officers, later identified as Osinachi and Joy, to strip me naked. I was forcibly undressed and left naked for interrogation. I was humiliated and terrified. Over the following days, I was subjected to severe physical abuse, including beatings with batons, wires, and slaps. I was repeatedly threatened with death and disappearance. My employer also threatened that he would arrange for me to be killed and claim I escaped from custody. I was repeatedly forced to strip naked. On several occasions, I was photographed and video-recorded while naked by police officers. On one occasion, the DPO personally ordered me, at gunpoint, to remove my clothes in a secluded area behind his office. I was crying and begging, but I was threatened into compliance. He took pictures and videos and made sexually humiliating remarks. These acts happened repeatedly. As a result of the beatings, especially blows to my chest, I developed serious breathing difficulties. I now rely on an inhaler. *Forced Statements and False Admissions* Because of the torture, sexual abuse, and threats, I became extremely frightened. I overheard police discussions about the robbery and the names of suspects. Out of fear for my life, I repeated some of those names and falsely admitted knowing people I had never met. I also falsely accepted that Ebube was my boyfriend. These admissions were made under duress, without any evidence, and solely to stop the abuse. *Transfer to Tiger Base, Owerri* After several days, I was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (Tiger Base), Owerri, along with male suspects. Even there, I was tied and beaten, although the treatment was less severe than at Orlu. At Tiger Base, the investigating officer, Mr. Chidi Igwe, reviewed the case. It became clear that: - The alleged female voice recording was not my voice; - I did not have Ebube’s phone number; - Evidence suggested that Ebube’s number had been dialled and messages sent from my phone while it was in police custody. This confirmed that my phone had been tampered with. I pleaded that my phone be submitted to MTN for forensic investigation to prove my innocence and even offered to pay the cost, but this was not done. *Intervention and Retaliatory Prosecution* Due to civil society advocacy and media reports about my prolonged detention and the sexual abuse I suffered, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, intervened. He ordered that my phone be properly investigated and that I be released if no evidence linked me to the crime. Instead of complying, the investigating officer secretly charged me to court without informing me or my lawyers, and I was remanded at the Owerri Correctional Centre. I believe this was done deliberately to punish me and to cover up the abuse and misconduct I had suffered. *Present Situation* I am currently in custody at the correctional centre. I am traumatised, in poor health, and struggling to breathe properly. My family is poor, distressed, and helpless. I maintain that I am completely innocent of the allegations against me and that I am being prosecuted to conceal grave abuses committed by police officers. This account was compiled by RULAAC legal representatives based on multiple interviews with Ms. Chukwuyere Princess Mmesoma and reflects her consistent personal testimony.

Chief Arthur-Regis Odidika, President of the Jewish Community in Nigeria made the clarification in Awka on Monday while reacting to a publication entitled “Judaism Adherents in S’East Plead with Tinubu to Release Kanu, Pray for His Health” The group called on the President to use his prerogative powers to free Maazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra from detention after they purportedly held a prayer session in Abia State. Chief Odidika said JFI had nothing against anyone showing concern towards anyone adding that Nnamdi Kanu was a case of serious national concern which should be addressed for national healing and peace. Odidika who is the Vice President of Commonwealth Jewish Council Africa (Nigeria) said religion was a matter of choice and the body of religion should not be mixed with other activities such as political, social and economic. Anglican Crisis: Separating Political Masqueraders from Church Crusaders By Jude Okafor Recently, there has been unsavoury development within the Anglican Church community in Anambra State. The issues border on unproven allegations and counter allegations of transparency, fiscal responsibility and management style of the Spiritual Father of the Church in Anambra, Archbishop Alexander Ibezim. This has been considered by many, especially non Anglicans as internal affairs of the Church which should be limited and resolved by it. Interestingly, the Primate, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has waded into the matter. Curiously, politics seems to have been the real reason for the sustained attack on the Archbishop and this sentiment appears to have been supported by the position of a group which called themselves, 9-Crusaders. The 9-Crusaders in their petition to the Primate, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) with the title “To Save The Church, We Must” made a series of claims which stand to be proven but one point appears to have exposed the underbelly of the entire brouhaha. A section of the petition, precisely, point-3 of the claims stated in part: “The proceeds of this plunder did not build the Church, some were used to fund politics. In 2020, Chief Sir Uzuegbunam "Uzu" Okagbue, paraded and supported by the then First Lady, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, stood as the most formidable candidate for Deputy Governor. But Archbishop Ibezim had other plans. “In 2021, Archbishop Ibezim struck a sordid bargain: N350 million of Church funds obtained from illegal land sales, was delivered to APGA Chairman Chief Victor Oye, to secure the Deputy Governorship Candidate ticket for his own brother, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim”... From the above, it becomes clear that the so-called Crusade to Save the Church is a smokescreen for continuation of the 2021 governorship election, particularly the jostle for the position of deputy governor slot. The masqueraders in their unsigned letter not only exposed their politically laced attack on the Archbishop but went further to suggest their source of energy and so unfortunately dragged a former national Chairman of APGA who is of Catholic faith into their dirty political crusade. Since their intention is to protest the nomination of Onyekachukwu Ibezim as the APGA deputy governorship candidate in 2021 and or maybe stop him from being renominated in 2025, they should have come straight and saved the Church from embarrassment. While the church had the option of nominating a candidate for any political office, the final decision of who should be selected or appointed rests with the political party. So why should Onyekachukwu Ibezim, a medical doctor and former military medical officer be the object of this level of vicious attacks. What is interesting is that the detractors did not find him unfit for the position of a deputy governor, having discharged his duties with the high sense of decorum expected from a public administrator which he is, and to the satisfaction of his principal, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo and the people of Anambra State. No wonder, upon his nomination as a second term candidate of his party APGA on April 5, Soludo picked Onyekachukwu Ibezim as his running mate at the venue of the congress without going home to think or make consultations about it. Assuming the Bishop bought the position for his younger brother with N350 million in the first term as alleged by the 9-Crusaders, how much did he pay to secure the position for the second term contest. There is no gainsaying that Onyekachukwu Ibezim has been a huge asset to the Soludo administration given his experience as an administrator, a refined partyman and a loyal copilot with the governor. The government of Soludo has performed creditably well and this is attributable to the peace and cooperation the governor has enjoyed from his team members especially his second in command. Members of any social organisation including the church are at liberty to ask relevant questions concerning their interval affairs and where necessary but they must do so within the limits of decency, morality, altruism, organisational rules and sincerity. The people behind the agitation can go about their quest as it is within their rights but they should not make themselves tools in the hands of the enemy to cause dissection within the body of Christ or distabilise the sociopolitical fabric of Anambra State. Those who think that the best way to get at Onyekachukwu Ibezim is to attack the Archbishop should retrace their steps because in reality, they are heating the polity and working hard to truncate the progressive strides of the Soludo administration. These desperate and ignoble actions have the potential to attract unintended consequences to the masqueraders. H, a Social Commentator and Good Governance advocate writes from Awka

Catholic Medical Practitioners Preach Natural Birth Control Methods, Decry Moral Decay The Association of Catholic Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ACMPN) has said natural birth control remains the best method of family planning. ACMPN made the call at the end of its 19th Annual Scientific Conference and General Meeting held between July 3rd and July 5. The Communique, signed and issued by Prof. Hadiza Abigail Agbo, the National President and Dr James Ojile National Secretary respectively on in Awka Wednesday also expressed fears over Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) food. The theme of the conference which held in Jos Plateau State. was "Dwindling Moral Practices: A Call to Action”. ACMPN said NaProTechnology was a natural method of family planning which had documented evidence of successes in reproduction and should be adopted as a method of Family Planning by the Federal ministry of Health. It said Catholic doctors were advised to be mindful of any act of termination of human life and should make all efforts to acquire more knowledge of NaProTechnology The body decried what it called a fast dwindling moral standard with increasing disregard for human dignity, increasing moral ambiguity, organ harvesting and commercialisation of health care. ”The church is encouraged to organise regular moral and spiritual renewal, they should be deliberate in alleviating poverty, which is identified as the main driver of most societal ills among the youth especially,” he said. ACMPN expressed worries over Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and advised the government to be more interested in the future agricultural prospects of the country. According to them, in spite the acclaimed gains of GMOs through modern biotechnology, ACMPN still holds its reservations on the non-replantable nature of the seeds. “This is a gradual total dependence on the source or seller over time which may amount to agricultural slavery, so they should ensure that the health of the country is a product of individual health,” it said. The association said the "WILL" was important in Christian marriages which should not be substituted with court weddings. ACMPN said couples should be well educated on inheritance and all that needed to be done to avoid undue harassment and rejection at the loss of a bread winner. “The Marriage Commission and the Laity Council should make this a part of awareness subsequently. “Doctors are encouraged to serve as good mentors to medical students, this mentorship role is to be deliberately awakened at all chapters of ACMPN,” it said.

Nigerian-American Couple: 17Yrs Marital Journey And 10Yrs Of Philanthropy On July 5, 2025, the God ordained marriage between Martin Nwabueze and Chisom clocked 17 years. The union is handsomely , beautifully and richly blessed with children who are doing well in their own right in the United States of America, the land of opportunities. The marriage though not immune from challenges like all others has been blissful and fulfilling. Ordinarily, the couple should have relaxed in their comfort zone having escaped from the economic and insecurity hazards of Africa to America. But rather than sit back and celebrate their good life in God's own country, the Nwabuezes had another desire, which is, a richer and safer life for Africans back home. This was the motivation behind the establishment of Tilova for Africa, a Non Governmental Organisation meant for advocating for social and economic rights of millions of Africans. For Africans, a population which faces existential threats daily, with poor access to basic needs of life and debilitating culture, values and belief systems which constrain their economic and social rights, no better voice could have asked for. So, for 10 years, Tilova for Africa, co-founded by Martin and Chisom have been in the vanguard of giving voice to the voiceless, advocating for freedom of the oppressed and uplifting the economic lives of thousands of Africans back home. In the area of advocacy, the Nwabuezes through their NGO have continued to challenge rights of Africans especially Nigerian in the face of perceived persecution and oppression on the basis of their religion or belief system by the government. The Foundation has added voice to the argument in favour of protection of rights to people with HIV as well as safe sexual practices. Speaking on the plight of HIV/AIDS patients in Africa, Nwabueze said “it is sad that our people still discriminate against them in Nigeria and this has led to apathy in the number of persons going for tests in recent times. “The implication is that most people will be carrying the virus without knowing it and the danger is that there is a possibility of a great spike in incidence. “Tilova for Africa” is also concerned with poverty and unemployment which are the major challenges facing Africa. Tilova for Africa has also condemned the arrest and detention of traditional African Medicine Practitioners or Native Doctors popularly known as ‘Ndi Dibia’ in Igbo land, Southeast Nigeria for allegedly encouraging crime by their activities without trial. Tilova for Africa holds the view that every legal move to fight crime in Nigeria and Igbo land in particular was commendable but no person or group should be scapegoated because of their religion or way of life. “Traditional medicine practice is an age long profession which existed in many African societies and should not be abolished in Anambra because of presumptive evidence. This type of crime fighting is primitive and unacceptable in 21st century Nigeria, we support the government to arrest crime and not content creators,” Martin said. Under the Charity arm of the NGO, Tilova for Africa has supported small businesses especially the economically vulnerable with start up packs, encouraged youths/students with giveaways and granted scholarships to indigent children. While hundreds of businesses have received finances ranging from between N50,000 and N500,000 while over 5,000 youths have received between N5,000 and N10,000. This is funded under the Uber Bonanza, Destiny helpers galore, Munachi award, Osinachi and Scholarship and the Mr white memorial in memory of Late Mr F. O. Nwabueze. “We endeavor to make the giveaways happen on a consistent basis, but it will depend on the availability of funds, participants are required to follow us on our Facebook page, www.tilovaforafrica.com where winners will be announced,” it announced. Already, testimonies abound that the charity activities of Tilova for Africa, have helped to cushion the economic impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians. One of the beneficiaries, Ms Chioma Mba, a Lagos-based single mother, abandoned by her husband for giving birth to three girls, appreciated Tilova for Africa for the N250,000 cash gift. “It will go a long way to support my business and help me cater for my children, “she said. Ms Jaiyeoba Omotolani, a physically challenged orphan and a single mother of one who got a sum of N250,000 said it was a huge relief. “I had a disability as a result of polio at age three and I lost my parents at age 15. I am also taking care of my three nephews who lost their parents in 2017,” she said. Vivian Eze, a restaurant operator based in Abuja was also a beneficiary of business cash support of N250, 000. Nwabueze called on the governments of African countries to pull more people out of poverty by implementing policies that would leave more money in the hands of Nigeria including decriminalising ‘tip money’. He said ‘tip money’ was a normal practice in western world especially in the United States and wondered why a customer would not support an attendant with it in Nigeria without the employee being punished. “Most workers in the US rely on tip money to stay on their jobs, that is a rich country, talk more of a poor country where wages can not sustain these for two weeks. Tip is a legitimate income, it should be encouraged, there should be tax waivers for small businesses,” he said. The Nwabuezes have set an example worthy of emulation by Nigerians in diaspora, they supported households and the national economy through their regular remittance through charity and through their advocacy attacked the institutions that perpetuate poverty in Africa. Congratulations and many more years to this Activist and Charitable Couple.

Protect Vulnerable Population Foundation Begs Soludo Tilova for Africa, a charity foundation, has called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to implement policies that will protect the economically vulnerable and low income earners in the state. Mr Martin Nwabueze, Co-founder of the American based foundation made the call when he paid an advocacy visit to Dr Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra on Monday. Nwabueze commended Soludo for his effort at transforming the infrastructure landscape of Anambra as well as combating insecurity in the state. He urged the governor to come up with policies that would put more money in the hands of the critical mass of the population by way of announcing tax waivers and protecting the rights of employees in the service industry to receive gratuities. Martin said the visit was in continuation of the foundation's campaign for decriminalisation of tips and improvement of workers welfare in both public and private sectors. “We have followed the activities of the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo's administration and I must say we are impressed with his achievements in the area of infrastructure and attempt to make Awka a befitting state capital. “His security initiatives have been encouraging too, people feel safer to move around the state now than before, that is commendable too. “But as a foundation , we are advocating for policies that will protect the poor from the increasing economic hardship, we call on the governor to come up with policies that will leave more money in the hands of the people. “We are calling for a cut in taxes and levies on transport operators and small businesses, both the one payable to the government and the one payable to the so-called unions. “Again, these minimum wage workers who are employed in service industries like hotels and bars should be free to collect ‘tips’ from customers who feel satisfied with their services. “They need this money to augment their pay, so the government should decriminalise it, employers should not stop them from being appreciated, it is not bribery, it is not corruption,” he said . The Activist backed Soludo's social moral rebirth crusade but reiterated that nobody should be victimised because of his religious belief and ensure that rule of law was adhered to in prosecuting perceived offenders. Martin Commended Mefor for his contributions to the administration through effective communication of government policies and programmes as well as operating an open door policy. In a reaction, Law Mefor said the Soludo administration was elected to serve the people of the state and that feedback was very crucial to its success. Mefor appreciated Nwabueze for appreciating the works of Soludo and offering useful advice. “Mr Governor is deeply concerned about making life better for Anambra people and your idea bothers on social reorientation which is a long term project, we will be willing to partner with your foundation to achieve that objective,” he said. |

Anambra Traders Pass Vote Of Confidence On Ubah, SPAD On Markets Stakeholders of the Electronics International Market, Ogbaru (EIMO) have passed a vote of confidence on Mr Evarist Ubah, Special Adviser on Trade and Markets for his administrative competence. The traders stated their position while reacting to the call by a group represented by one Onyeka Okeke that Gov. Chukwuma Soludo should sack Ubah on Monday . Okeke and his group which the stakeholders called ‘faceless’ had alleged that the SPAD was using his position to foment crisis in the market. But the market stakeholders in a Statement signed by Chukwuma Etusi called on Soludo to disregard the call as Ubah had not only restored confidence in the market but also been proactive to ensure stability. They commended the SPAD for coming up with the idea to set up a Caretaker Committee as the Board of Trustees (BoT) in charge was ineptitude, unaccountable and was plunging the market into a crisis. They said more worrisome was the inability of the BOT in cahoot with the immediate past elected officers to resolve outstanding debts with the bank over funds borrowed to complete the market. “This has led to diverse threats by the bank over the titles held by shop owners. “It was based on these that key stakeholders in the market decided to do all within their powers to recover the market from the mess they have been dragged into. “Let him go ahead with his decision and a competent team in the interest of 20000 electronics market traders” he said. They stakeholders said the possibility of losing their property made them to present the matter to the Anambra following which the SPAD quickly intervened and took remedial actions to restore normalcy. The stakeholders said the attack on the Soludo government and gang up by the faceless group engineered by the BoT against Ubah was out of fear of loss of power and importance. They appreciated Soludo for coming to their aid by considering the Caretaker Committee as the first step to unraveling the whole issues in the market towards finding a lasting peace. “Hon. Ubah immediately proposed a competent and well-considered Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of the market in the interim for the details of the entire issues to be unraveled. “Most interesting is that the SPAD considered small shop owners, plaza owners, the poor and the rich, committed traders in the market as proposed members of this Caretaker Committee. “Traders in the market felt tremendous relief and have continued their businesses peacefully since then. “The stakeholders of the Electronics International Market, Ogbaru hereby wish to inform the Gov. Soludo ignored all calls seeking the removal of his officers, causing tension in the market and spreading lies,” they said.

Foundation urges government to decriminalise ‘tip money’ in Nigeria workplaces Tilova For Africa, an American based Charity Foundation has called on Federal and State Governments to decriminalise giving and receiving of tips in Nigeria. Mr Martin Nwabueze, Co-founder of Tilova 4 Africa made the call at a news conference in Awka on Sunday. Nwabueze described tip money’ as a financial reward voluntarily given to an attendant in appreciation for a satisfactory service enjoyed after making the statutory payment for goods or service provided. He said ‘tip money’ was a normal practice in western world especially in the United States and wondered why a customer would not support an attendant with it in Nigeria without the employee being punished. Nwabueze recalled that tip money is a topical issue in America that making a pledge to remove taxes on it was instrumental to Donald Trump's victory in the last Presidential election and ultimately becameis essential element of beautiful bill “The removal of taxes on tips is one of the most significant aspects of Donald Trump's big beautiful bill,” he said. He said that though it is not currently a crime to give or take tips, the government should go a bit further to decriminalise tip money by providing a legal framework that would protect the service provider or employees from being victimised by their employers at the workplace. It should not be left to the discreation of individual employers to decide wether to allow workers to receive tips or not. It should be the right of the workers to do so. He said some of the benefits of tip money included increasing job satisfaction among workers, motivation for better service delivery, lowering propensity to steal from employer and increase in total financial reward for the worker. “I have noticed since my visit that employees, especially attendants in service sector, say hotels and bar do not collect tip money, this is not because they do not need it but because their employers will sack them “This is utterly wrong, a customer who feels satisfied with the quality of service of any staff and wants to appreciate them financially should be free to do so and the worker should be free to enjoy the reward for their good job. “Tip money is not a bribe which is an inducement for someone to do the wrong thing, it is a reward for a job well done, it is a discretionary amount which customers choose to give, often as a token of appreciation for good service. “Most workers in the US rely on tip money to stay on their jobs, they even create a box where people can put such money, that is in rich countries, talk more of a poor country where wages can not sustain these attendants for two weeks,” he said. Nwabueze expressed regret that low income workers cannot freely receive appreciation from a customer just because the employer who is not paying them well will sack her. Nwabueze said he was already engaging with stakeholders in the private and public sectors to push for cultural reorientation and advocacy to make tip money a strategy for encouraging hard work among low income service oriented employees. According to him, it is a legitimate income, tips can be given in cash or through electronic payment methods like credit or debit cards. “Some establishments have tip pools or sharing arrangements where tips are distributed among multiple employees,” he said. |
The Paradox of Police Reform and the Untouchable Rogue Units By Okechukwu Nwanguma I have written, and I stand by it, that the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, is a professional-minded police chief who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to promoting police discipline, integrity, and accountability. This is not mere praise, but a conclusion drawn from my direct engagements with him and personal experiences in which I have brought cases of police corruption and abuse to his attention—many of which are publicly documented. In each case, CP Aboki responded promptly and decisively, ensuring that officers involved were investigated and, where necessary, sanctioned. In many instances, money extorted from citizens was recovered. This speaks volumes about his leadership and sense of duty. However, some readers have asked—quite rightly—why I haven’t addressed the continued impunity of the infamous Anti-Kidnapping Unit, commonly known as Tiger Base, in Imo State. It’s a valid and necessary point. My response is that the enduring menace of Tiger Base is not due to CP Aboki's complicity or indifference, but rather the result of deeper, entrenched structural rot within Nigeria’s policing system—where rogue officers are shielded by powerful political patrons. This shielding makes even well-meaning and reform-oriented commissioners like CP Aboki practically powerless against them. The situation mirrors the now-notorious case of James Nwafor, the former Commander of the Awkuzu SARS in Anambra State. Nwafor's reign of terror is well documented—his name featured prominently in the majority of petitions submitted to both the Anambra State and National Human Rights Commission’s judicial panels of inquiry set up in the wake of the #EndSARS movement to investigate police brutality. Yet, he treated those summons with impunity and contempt, refusing to appear before the panels. What’s even more disturbing is that despite the national outrage and widespread calls for accountability, James Nwafor was rewarded with political protection even in retirement. A former governor of Anambra State appointed him as Chief Security Officer—a move that sent a chilling message to victims and activists: that impunity not only thrives in Nigeria but is often rewarded. That appointment was a slap in the face of justice and a blatant disregard for the pain and trauma suffered by victims and their families. Like Nwafor, the Commander of Tiger Base in Imo has remained in post for an unusually long time, outlasting multiple Commissioners of Police. Attempts to redeploy or hold such officers accountable are often blocked by powerful political actors, traditional rulers, and business interests who see these units as tools to serve their personal or political ends. These commanders are insulated from accountability, enjoying influence that extends all the way to Force Headquarters. This is the tragedy: while CP Aboki strives to reform and uphold professionalism within the Imo State Police Command, he is up against a system that permits rogue units like Tiger Base to operate above the law. Their continued operation not only erodes public trust but also undermines the efforts of ethical police officers and leaders who genuinely want to rebuild the integrity of the force. The continued impunity enjoyed by such officers comes at a high cost—measured in unlawful arrests, torture, extortion, and, in some cases, extrajudicial killings. The liberty, dignity, and safety of citizens, especially in Imo, are under constant threat so long as such rogue units remain untouchable. This paradox—of committed police leadership rendered impotent by entrenched political interests—is at the heart of Nigeria’s failed attempts at police reform. Until the web of political protection that shields the worst elements of the police is dismantled, reform will remain cosmetic, and the cries for justice from victims will continue to go unheard. We must continue to demand better—not only from police leadership but from the political and institutional powers that enable abuse. The fight against impunity must go beyond the surface. It must address the criminal-political collusion that allows Tiger Base and its ilk to operate with unchecked brutality. Only then can police officers like CP Aboki, who genuinely seek to change the narrative, succeed. Only then can Nigerians begin to feel safe, heard, and protected by the institutions meant to serve them. |
Police Arrest, Detain, Secretly Arraign Man, Three Daughters In Abia The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), a Civil Society Organisation has accused the Police Command in Abia of secretly arraigning one Mr Sunday Chikadibia, 63 and his three daughters after holding them incommunicado for over three weeks. RULAAC in a Statement issued on Sunday said the Abia State Police Command through their activities had shown a disturbing pattern of abuse and mpunity marked by arbitrary arrest, denial of access, and secret arraignment of persons The Statement was signed by Okechukwu Nwanguma, Executive Director of RULAAC. The Statement said Chikadibia, a shoe manufacturer and his daughters were violently abducted in April from their home in Alaukwu village, Osisioma Ngwa LGA and were denied access to lawyers or relatives throughout their detention. RULAAC said it was only after pressure from the media and civil society organisations that they were they quietly remanded at Aba Correctional Centre without informing their family or allowing legal representation. It said the family members were suddenly charged with capital offenses including conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, noting that they were as suspicious as the silence that surrounded their arrest. “The secretive nature of the arraignment and lack of due process raise grave concerns about the transparency and integrity of the justice system. “The police initially denied knowledge of their whereabouts, despite witness accounts and evidence placing them at the notorious Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Umuahia. “These charges are entirely alien to the family, particularly given that one of the daughters was only home for Easter holidays. “We demand urgent intervention from the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission. Nigerians must not remain silent as such acts erode the very foundation of justice,” he said. |
Anambra South: Ebuka Onunkwo, Right Man To Replace Late Ubah In Senate The Anambra South Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly has remained vacant since July 2024 when Late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah went the way of all mortals. A number of aspirants from different backgrounds have indicated interest to fill the vacant seat as senator representing the zone. One man who stands out in the pack is Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, a successful businessman, a partyman, philanthropist, an articulate entrepreneur and energetic politician who is in tune with the grassroots. Onunkwo who is the Managing Director,Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse Lubricant Limited has his factory in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo LGA, employing over 500 of skilled and semi skilled labour directly and providing livelihood to many families. By this singular investment, Onunkwo popularly called Odoziobodo( builder of nation) has led the way in demonstrating that Anambra is home to genuine investment, he is also already addressing the menace of insecurity and poverty in the area through employment. Onunkwo, a multiple award winner in education and business is also an international businessman who is not only making money and bringing it home, he is also galvanising Igbo community in diaspora which earned him the exalted position of "Eze-Igbo na Benin Republic". Onunkwo holds four honorary doctorate degrees including in Finance from Tansian University, Umunya, a testament to his high entrepreneurial acumen with which he had built businesses over decades. Through his foundation, the Ebuka Onunkwo Foundation, the frontline aspirant has paid West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees to no fewer than 5,000 and awarded academic scholarships to countless number of students at the secondary school and university levels for over two decades. Onunkwo through this gesture has given opportunity to intelligent but indigent youths access to educational empowerment and most of these beneficiaries are from the Anambra South Senatorial District. There is definitely no viable alternative to Onunkwo among the contestants for the position of Anambra South Senatorial District Senator who possesses similar rich background. Onunkwo is an avowed member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), apart from supporting the party both in Ihembosi in Ekwusigo LGA and at the state level he has also demonstrated loyalty and support for the administration of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo. If competence, capacity exposure, altruism and party loyalty are the criteria for considering an aspirants for nomination as APGA candidate, Dr Ebuka Onunkwo is obviously the best man for APGA in the Anambra South Senatorial bye election. No wonder he has continued to gain acceptance from across the state especially among the people of Anambra South district. As the people of the Senatorial District await the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce the date for Anambra South Senatorial District bye election, Ebuka Onunkwo remains the best man to step into the big shoes left by late Ifeanyi Ubah.
