NMA Holds AGM, Honours Nonye Soludo, Ikechebelu



The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Anambra Chapter has held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) Scientific Conference, Award and Launch in Awka, the Anambra capital.

The theme of the AGM is “From Drain To Gain: Strategies For Building Nigerian Health Workforce Capacity”.

The NMA gave an award Drive f recognition to Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of the governor of Anambra and Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, the immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Dr Afam Obidike for their contributions to medicine and society.

Mrs Soludo was recognised for her service to humanity through “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo” her project which promotes fitness and nutrition which while Ikechebelu, was honoured for his contributions to the field of medicine.

Dr Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health was honoured for his performance as an administrator who helped to build a robust relationship between the government of Anambra and health workers.


Prof. Walter Nwafia, an Environmentalist and Clinical Physiologist who delivered the lecture said effective application of technology in medical practice could bridge the manpower gap in the health sector of Nigeria.

Nwafia who lectures in the Faculty of Faculty of Medicine, Chukwuma Odumegwu Ojukwu University said Nigeria health sector was severely broken by brain drain and needed serious and urgent redemption.

He said the factors which were responsible for outward migration including remuneration and insecurity should be addressed.

He also called on senior doctors to bond more with their mentees, build greater work ethics among them while calling on the NMA to use its power of collective bargaining to secure better deals for members in terms of remuneration and appointments.

In his lecture,, Dr Olugbenga Ogunfowora said technology and Artificial Intelligence assisted devices could help deliver quality and timely healthcare services to a cross section of the society efficiently.

Ogunfowora said with an Artificial Intelligence chatbox on a computer at a Primary Healthcare Centre, a doctor could examine a patient, administer treatment and monitor progress wherever he was.

He spoke on “The Digital Doctor: Embracing Telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence and Other Digital Health Tools”

“With this technology Nigerian doctors in foreign countries can treat patients in their villages and that is how brain drain can be converted to brain gain,” he said.

In his speech, Dr Princeton Okam , the Chairman of NMA, Anambra said AGM, and Awards Ceremony was an opportunity for relevant stakeholders and policy makers to interface on issues affecting doctors and the health care system.

Okam lauded Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for introducing Telemedicine innovation in Anambra while pledging the continued support of doctors both in public and private establishments towards achieving his dream healthcare delivery system for Anambra.

Catholic Medical Practitioners Preach Natural Birth Control Methods, Decry Moral Decay

The Association of Catholic Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ACMPN) has said natural birth control remains the best method of family planning.

ACMPN made the call at the end of its 19th Annual Scientific Conference and General Meeting held between July 3rd and July 5.

The Communique, signed and issued by Prof. Hadiza Abigail Agbo, the National President and Dr James Ojile National Secretary respectively on in Awka Wednesday also expressed fears over Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) food.

The theme of the conference which held in Jos Plateau State. was "Dwindling Moral Practices: A Call to Action”.

NaProTechnology was a natural method of family planning which had documented evidence of successes in reproduction and should be adopted as a method of Family Planning by the Federal ministry of Health.

It said Catholic doctors were advised to be mindful of any act of termination of human life and should make all efforts to acquire more knowledge of NaProTechnology

The body decried what it called a fast dwindling moral standard with increasing disregard for human dignity, increasing moral ambiguity, organ harvesting and commercialisation of health care.

”The church is encouraged to organise regular moral and spiritual renewal, they should be deliberate in alleviating poverty, which is identified as the main driver of most societal ills among the youth especially,” he said.

ACMPN expressed worries over Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and advised the government to be more interested in the future agricultural prospects of the country.

According to them, in spite the acclaimed gains of GMOs through modern biotechnology, ACMPN still holds its reservations on the non-replantable nature of the seeds.

“This is a gradual total dependence on the source or seller over time which may amount to agricultural slavery, so they should ensure that the health of the country is a product of individual health,” it said.

The association said the "WILL" was important in Christian marriages which should not be substituted with court weddings.

ACMPN said couples should be well educated on inheritance and all that needed to be done to avoid undue harassment and rejection at the loss of a bread winner.

“The Marriage Commission and the Laity Council should make this a part of awareness subsequently.

“Doctors are encouraged to serve as good mentors to medical students, this mentorship role is to be deliberately awakened at all chapters of ACMPN,” it said.

On July 5, 2025, the God ordained marriage between Martin Nwabueze and Chisom clocked 17 years. The union is handsomely , beautifully and richly blessed with children who are doing well in their own right in the United States of America, the land of opportunities.

The marriage though not immune from challenges like all others has been blissful and fulfilling.

Ordinarily, the couple should have relaxed in their comfort zone having escaped from the economic and insecurity hazards of Africa to America.

But rather than sit back and celebrate their good life in God's own country, the Nwabuezes had another desire, which is, a richer and safer life for Africans back home.

This was the motivation behind the establishment of Tilova for Africa, a Non Governmental Organisation meant for advocating for social and economic rights of millions of Africans.

For Africans, a population which faces existential threats daily, with poor access to basic needs of life and debilitating culture, values and belief systems which constrain their economic and social rights, no better voice could have asked for.

So, for 10 years, Tilova for Africa, co-founded by Martin and Chisom have been in the vanguard of giving voice to the voiceless, advocating for freedom of the oppressed and uplifting the economic lives of thousands of Africans back home.

In the area of advocacy, the Nwabuezes through their NGO have continued to challenge rights of Africans especially Nigerian in the face of perceived persecution and oppression on the basis of their religion or belief system by the government.

The Foundation has added voice to the argument in favour of protection of rights to people with HIV as well as safe sexual practices.

Speaking on the plight of HIV/AIDS patients in Africa, Nwabueze said “it is sad that our people still discriminate against them in Nigeria and this has led to apathy in the number of persons going for tests in recent times.

“The implication is that most people will be carrying the virus without knowing it and the danger is that there is a possibility of a great spike in incidence.

“Tilova for Africa” is also concerned with poverty and unemployment which are the major challenges facing Africa.

Tilova for Africa has also condemned the arrest and detention of traditional African Medicine Practitioners or Native Doctors popularly known as ‘Ndi Dibia’ in Igbo land, Southeast Nigeria for allegedly encouraging crime by their activities without trial.

Tilova for Africa holds the view that every legal move to fight crime in Nigeria and Igbo land in particular was commendable but no person or group should be scapegoated because of their religion or way of life.

“Traditional medicine practice is an age long profession which existed in many African societies and should not be abolished in Anambra because of presumptive evidence.

This type of crime fighting is primitive and unacceptable in 21st century Nigeria, we support the government to arrest crime and not content creators,” Martin said.

Under the Charity arm of the NGO, Tilova for Africa has supported small businesses especially the economically vulnerable with start up packs, encouraged youths/students with giveaways and granted scholarships to indigent children.

While hundreds of businesses have received finances ranging from between N50,000 and N500,000 while over 5,000 youths have received between N5,000 and N10,000.

This is funded under the Uber Bonanza, Destiny helpers galore, Munachi award, Osinachi and Scholarship and the Mr white memorial in memory of Late Mr F. O. Nwabueze.

“We endeavor to make the giveaways happen on a consistent basis, but it will depend on the availability of funds, participants are required to follow us on our Facebook page, www.tilovaforafrica.com where winners will be announced,” it announced.
Already, testimonies abound that the charity activities of Tilova for Africa, have helped to cushion the economic impact of subsidy removal on Nigerians.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms Chioma Mba, a Lagos-based single mother, abandoned by her husband for giving birth to three girls, appreciated Tilova for Africa for the N250,000 cash gift.

“It will go a long way to support my business and help me cater for my children, “she said.

Ms Jaiyeoba Omotolani, a physically challenged orphan and a single mother of one who got a sum of N250,000 said it was a huge relief.

“I had a disability as a result of polio at age three and I lost my parents at age 15. I am also taking care of my three nephews who lost their parents in 2017,” she said.

Vivian Eze, a restaurant operator based in Abuja was also a beneficiary of business cash support of N250, 000.

Nwabueze called on the governments of African countries to pull more people out of poverty by implementing policies that would leave more money in the hands of Nigeria including decriminalising ‘tip money’.

He said ‘tip money’ was a normal practice in western world especially in the United States and wondered why a customer would not support an attendant with it in Nigeria without the employee being punished.

“Most workers in the US rely on tip money to stay on their jobs, that is a rich country, talk more of a poor country where wages can not sustain these for two weeks.

Tip is a legitimate income, it should be encouraged, there should be tax waivers for small businesses,” he said.

The Nwabuezes have set an example worthy of emulation by Nigerians in diaspora, they supported households and the national economy through their regular remittance through charity and through their advocacy attacked the institutions that perpetuate poverty in Africa.

Anambra Guber: TYNAS Vows To Work For Soludo's Victory

The Tell Your Neighbour About Solution (TYNAS), a political support group within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has expressed determination to work for the victory of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo in the Nov. 8 governorship election.


TYNAS said this at the inauguration of its Local Government Area chapters and investiture of patrons in Awka on Friday.


Speaking at the event, Chief Emeka Mbagha, Convener and Director General of TYNAS said Soludo had done well in his first term and deserved to be returned for a second term.

Mbagha said the governor had executed numerous game-changing projects while in office and charged members to go to their homesteads and spread the good news.

He said Soludo had exceeded expectations through his road infrastructure, free education, free antenatal care and merit based massive recruitment.

According to him, Soludo is blessed to live good live as a person but he has decided to use it for the good of humanity

“Let us go forth and talk to our communities, our age grades, non indigenes that Soludo has done well and deserves a second term.

“We have decided to key into this gift of God to humanity by spreading the message, the reward for government work is more work,” he said.

Also speaking, Chief Pius Udo, another patron of the group said Soludo came prepared for the task and he hit the ground running of governing Anambra.

According to him, Soludo started with Okpoko and we all see the difference today.

“He has done well, he deserved a second term, our Campaign for him is based on conviction and not for benefits,” he said.

On his part, Dr Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra said thousands of youths had been trained in digital technology by the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo administration.

Mefor said this at the inauguration of.

Mefor said the government targeted to train one million youths in its digital tribe creation initiative under the Solution Innovation District (SID) programme.

He said the governor was an achiever and global citizen who had exceeded his manifesto through his legacy projects.

He said his Ministry would produce a scorecard flyer for the group to help them go about their campaign activities.

“Soludo administration has trained 60,000 youths trained in digital skills free, this is a training that is valued at an average of N3.5 million per student

“Soludo is not constructing political roads but roads that are designed for 20 years, you do not need to tell lies about Soludo, you do not need propaganda to campaign for him, he is a global product.

“All his achievements are legacy projects, he is implementing free education, free healthcare, these are not in his manifesto and he has done all these without borrowing.

“We will win this election free and fair, the job of TYNAS is going to be at the polling units,” he said.

TYNAS installed Mefor, Pius Udo, a former Clerk of Anambra State House of Assembly and Titus Akpudo immediate past chairman of Association of Anambra State Town Unions as their Patrons during the event.

Protect Vulnerable Population
Foundation Begs Soludo


Tilova for Africa, a charity foundation, has called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo to implement policies that will protect the economically vulnerable and low income earners in the state.

Mr Martin Nwabueze, Co-founder of the American based foundation made the call when he paid an advocacy visit to Dr Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra on Monday.

Nwabueze commended Soludo for his effort at transforming the infrastructure landscape of Anambra as well as combating insecurity in the state.

He urged the governor to come up with policies that would put more money in the hands of the critical mass of the population by way of announcing tax waivers and protecting the rights of employees in the service industry to receive gratuities.

Martin said the visit was in continuation of the foundation's campaign for decriminalisation of tips and improvement of workers welfare in both public and private sectors.

“We have followed the activities of the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo's administration and I must say we are impressed with his achievements in the area of infrastructure and attempt to make Awka a befitting state capital.

“His security initiatives have been encouraging too, people feel safer to move around the state now than before, that is commendable too.

“But as a foundation , we are advocating for policies that will protect the poor from the increasing economic hardship, we call on the governor to come up with policies that will leave more money in the hands of the people.

“We are calling for a cut in taxes and levies on transport operators and small businesses, both the one payable to the government and the one payable to the so-called unions.

“Again, these minimum wage workers who are employed in service industries like hotels and bars should be free to collect ‘tips’ from customers who feel satisfied with their services.

“They need this money to augment their pay, so the government should decriminalise it, employers should not stop them from being appreciated, it is not bribery, it is not corruption,” he said .

The Activist backed Soludo's social moral rebirth crusade but reiterated that nobody should be victimised because of his religious belief and ensure that rule of law was adhered to in prosecuting perceived offenders.

Martin Commended Mefor for his contributions to the administration through effective communication of government policies and programmes as well as operating an open door policy.

In a reaction, Law Mefor said the Soludo administration was elected to serve the people of the state and that feedback was very crucial to its success.

Mefor appreciated Nwabueze for appreciating the works of Soludo and offering useful advice.

“Mr Governor is deeply concerned about making life better for Anambra people and your idea bothers on social reorientation which is a long term project, we will be willing to partner with your foundation to achieve that objective,” he said.

Anambra Gov't Pledges Partnership With AnsPoly In Entrepreneurship, Skill Development




The Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu has flagged off its Skill Empowerment and Development Centre (SEDC) to enhance the quality and capacity of manpower of graduates from the institution.

Director Southeast Zone of NBTE who inaugurated the centres in Mgbakwu near Awka described it as one of the best among its peers.

Okelekwe congratulated the institution for being one of the beneficiaries of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) of NBTE.

She said trainees would receive skill based certificates known as National Skill Qualification after undergoing stringent quality assessment procedures.

She said the Federal Government had identified 25 skill gap which were role specific under TVET and called on Nigerians youths to key into the programme.

Dr Njideka Rita Chiekezie, Rector of the Polytechnic said the opening of SEDC was another addition to the growing profile of the institution.

Chiekezie said the objective was to produce graduates with one degree and two skills in line with the 1Youth 2Skills initiative of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo administration.

She said the certificate would be NBTE certified and applicable anywhere in the country while welcoming the partnership offer from the Anambra government.

The Centre has facility for eight skill sets including Cosmetology, Welding/Fabrication, Bakery/Confectionery, Media/ Photography ICT/Solar Installation, Block Moulding/Brick Laying, Tailoring/Textile and Green House Technology.

“We are happy that the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment has said that they are ready to partner with us in the area of the startup pack,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Patrick Aghamba, Commissioner for Youth Empowerment applauded the institution for expanding its scope of vacational training and encouraged the management to align with his Ministry to enjoy the accruing benefits.

Aghamba said the 1Youth 2 Skills empowerment programme of the Anambra Government had been endorsed by the Federal Government and proposed for implementation across the country.

He said the programme not only armed youths with skills but also provided them with start up packs to enable them contribute to the society and create wealth.

He state the state government was impressed with the skills development initiative of the institution and promised to partner with them.

“I encourage you to come to the ministry and see what we are doing in our 1Youth 2Skills programme and align with it.

“If you work with you, your student can benefit what our trainees benefit, they will stand a chance to get start up packs,” he said.

Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education represented by Mrs Oyibo Alor, the Director Higher Education in the ministry congratulated the institution and called on students to key in for self-reliance and wealth creation.

Mr Ugochukwu Odogwu, Director SEDC AnsPoly encouraged students to take their training seriously as there were qualified resource persons and assessors to train and certify them.

Odogwu said skills were important because they solved problems and generated wealth for the individual..

Anambra Traders Pass Vote Of Confidence On Ubah, SPAD On Markets


Stakeholders of the Electronics International Market, Ogbaru (EIMO) have passed a vote of confidence on Mr Evarist Ubah, Special Adviser on Trade and Markets for his administrative competence.

The traders stated their position while reacting to the call by a group represented by one Onyeka Okeke that Gov. Chukwuma Soludo should sack Ubah on Monday .

Okeke and his group which the stakeholders called ‘faceless’ had alleged that the SPAD was using his position to foment crisis in the market.

But the market stakeholders in a Statement signed by Chukwuma Etusi called on Soludo to disregard the call as Ubah had not only restored confidence in the market but also been proactive to ensure stability.

They commended the SPAD for coming up with the idea to set up a Caretaker Committee as the Board of Trustees (BoT) in charge was ineptitude, unaccountable and was plunging the market into a crisis.

They said more worrisome was the inability of the BOT in cahoot with the immediate past elected officers to resolve outstanding debts with the bank over funds borrowed to complete the market.

“This has led to diverse threats by the bank over the titles held by shop owners.

“It was based on these that key stakeholders in the market decided to do all within their powers to recover the market from the mess they have been dragged into.

“Let him go ahead with his decision and a competent team in the interest of 20000 electronics market traders” he said.

They stakeholders said the possibility of losing their property made them to present the matter to the Anambra following which the SPAD quickly intervened and took remedial actions to restore normalcy.

The stakeholders said the attack on the Soludo government and gang up by the faceless group engineered by the BoT against Ubah was out of fear of loss of power and importance.

They appreciated Soludo for coming to their aid by considering the Caretaker Committee as the first step to unraveling the whole issues in the market towards finding a lasting peace.

“Hon. Ubah immediately proposed a competent and well-considered Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of the market in the interim for the details of the entire issues to be unraveled.

“Most interesting is that the SPAD considered small shop owners, plaza owners, the poor and the rich, committed traders in the market as proposed members of this Caretaker Committee.

“Traders in the market felt tremendous relief and have continued their businesses peacefully since then.

“The stakeholders of the Electronics International Market, Ogbaru hereby wish to inform the Gov. Soludo ignored all calls seeking the removal of his officers, causing tension in the market and spreading lies,” they said.

Foundation urges government to decriminalise ‘tip money’ in Nigeria workplaces


Tilova For Africa, an American based Charity Foundation has called on Federal and State Governments to decriminalise giving and receiving of tips in Nigeria.

Mr Martin Nwabueze, Co-founder of Tilova 4 Africa made the call at a news conference in Awka on Sunday.

Nwabueze described tip money’ as a financial reward voluntarily given to an attendant in appreciation for a satisfactory service enjoyed after making the statutory payment for goods or service provided.

He said ‘tip money’ was a normal practice in western world especially in the United States and wondered why a customer would not support an attendant with it in Nigeria without the employee being punished.


Nwabueze recalled that tip money is a topical issue in America that making a pledge to remove taxes on it was instrumental to Donald Trump's victory in the last Presidential election and ultimately becameis essential element of beautiful bill

“The removal of taxes on tips is one of the most significant aspects of Donald Trump's big beautiful bill,” he said.

He said that though it is not currently a crime to give or take tips, the government should go a bit further to decriminalise tip money by providing a legal framework that would protect the service provider or employees from being victimised by their employers at the workplace. It should not be left to the discreation of individual employers to decide wether to allow workers to receive tips or not. It should be the right of the workers to do so.

He said some of the benefits of tip money included increasing job satisfaction among workers, motivation for better service delivery, lowering propensity to steal from employer and increase in total financial reward for the worker.

“I have noticed since my visit that employees, especially attendants in service sector, say hotels and bar do not collect tip money, this is not because they do not need it but because their employers will sack them

“This is utterly wrong, a customer who feels satisfied with the quality of service of any staff and wants to appreciate them financially should be free to do so and the worker should be free to enjoy the reward for their good job.

“Tip money is not a bribe which is an inducement for someone to do the wrong thing, it is a reward for a job well done, it is a discretionary amount which customers choose to give, often as a token of appreciation for good service.

“Most workers in the US rely on tip money to stay on their jobs, they even create a box where people can put such money, that is in rich countries, talk more of a poor country where wages can not sustain these attendants for two weeks,” he said.

Nwabueze expressed regret that low income workers cannot freely receive appreciation from a customer just because the employer who is not paying them well will sack her.

Nwabueze said he was already engaging with stakeholders in the private and public sectors to push for cultural reorientation and advocacy to make tip money a strategy for encouraging hard work among low income service oriented employees.

According to him, it is a legitimate income, tips can be given in cash or through electronic payment methods like credit or debit cards.

“Some establishments have tip pools or sharing arrangements where tips are distributed among multiple employees,” he said.

The Paradox of Police Reform and the Untouchable Rogue Units

I have written, and I stand by it, that the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, is a professional-minded police chief who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to promoting police discipline, integrity, and accountability. This is not mere praise, but a conclusion drawn from my direct engagements with him and personal experiences in which I have brought cases of police corruption and abuse to his attention—many of which are publicly documented. In each case, CP Aboki responded promptly and decisively, ensuring that officers involved were investigated and, where necessary, sanctioned. In many instances, money extorted from citizens was recovered. This speaks volumes about his leadership and sense of duty.

However, some readers have asked—quite rightly—why I haven’t addressed the continued impunity of the infamous Anti-Kidnapping Unit, commonly known as Tiger Base, in Imo State. It’s a valid and necessary point.

My response is that the enduring menace of Tiger Base is not due to CP Aboki's complicity or indifference, but rather the result of deeper, entrenched structural rot within Nigeria’s policing system—where rogue officers are shielded by powerful political patrons. This shielding makes even well-meaning and reform-oriented commissioners like CP Aboki practically powerless against them.

The situation mirrors the now-notorious case of James Nwafor, the former Commander of the Awkuzu SARS in Anambra State. Nwafor's reign of terror is well documented—his name featured prominently in the majority of petitions submitted to both the Anambra State and National Human Rights Commission’s judicial panels of inquiry set up in the wake of the #EndSARS movement to investigate police brutality. Yet, he treated those summons with impunity and contempt, refusing to appear before the panels.

What’s even more disturbing is that despite the national outrage and widespread calls for accountability, James Nwafor was rewarded with political protection even in retirement. A former governor of Anambra State appointed him as Chief Security Officer—a move that sent a chilling message to victims and activists: that impunity not only thrives in Nigeria but is often rewarded. That appointment was a slap in the face of justice and a blatant disregard for the pain and trauma suffered by victims and their families.

Like Nwafor, the Commander of Tiger Base in Imo has remained in post for an unusually long time, outlasting multiple Commissioners of Police. Attempts to redeploy or hold such officers accountable are often blocked by powerful political actors, traditional rulers, and business interests who see these units as tools to serve their personal or political ends. These commanders are insulated from accountability, enjoying influence that extends all the way to Force Headquarters.

This is the tragedy: while CP Aboki strives to reform and uphold professionalism within the Imo State Police Command, he is up against a system that permits rogue units like Tiger Base to operate above the law. Their continued operation not only erodes public trust but also undermines the efforts of ethical police officers and leaders who genuinely want to rebuild the integrity of the force.

The continued impunity enjoyed by such officers comes at a high cost—measured in unlawful arrests, torture, extortion, and, in some cases, extrajudicial killings. The liberty, dignity, and safety of citizens, especially in Imo, are under constant threat so long as such rogue units remain untouchable.

This paradox—of committed police leadership rendered impotent by entrenched political interests—is at the heart of Nigeria’s failed attempts at police reform. Until the web of political protection that shields the worst elements of the police is dismantled, reform will remain cosmetic, and the cries for justice from victims will continue to go unheard.

We must continue to demand better—not only from police leadership but from the political and institutional powers that enable abuse. The fight against impunity must go beyond the surface. It must address the criminal-political collusion that allows Tiger Base and its ilk to operate with unchecked brutality.

Only then can police officers like CP Aboki, who genuinely seek to change the narrative, succeed. Only then can Nigerians begin to feel safe, heard, and protected by the institutions meant to serve them.

Police Arrest, Detain, Secretly Arraign Man, Three Daughters In Abia


The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC), a Civil Society Organisation has accused the Police Command in Abia of secretly arraigning one Mr Sunday Chikadibia, 63 and his three daughters after holding them incommunicado for over three weeks.

RULAAC in a Statement issued on Sunday said the Abia State Police Command through their activities had shown a disturbing pattern of abuse and mpunity marked by arbitrary arrest, denial of access, and secret arraignment of persons

The Statement was signed by Okechukwu Nwanguma, Executive Director of RULAAC.

The Statement said Chikadibia, a shoe manufacturer and his daughters were violently abducted in April from their home in Alaukwu village, Osisioma Ngwa LGA and were denied access to lawyers or relatives throughout their detention.

RULAAC said it was only after pressure from the media and civil society organisations that they were they quietly remanded at Aba Correctional Centre without informing their family or allowing legal representation.

It said the family members were suddenly charged with capital offenses including conspiracy to murder, kidnapping, noting that they were as suspicious as the silence that surrounded their arrest.

“The secretive nature of the arraignment and lack of due process raise grave concerns about the transparency and integrity of the justice system.

“The police initially denied knowledge of their whereabouts, despite witness accounts and evidence placing them at the notorious Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Umuahia.

“These charges are entirely alien to the family, particularly given that one of the daughters was only home for Easter holidays.

“We demand urgent intervention from the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission. Nigerians must not remain silent as such acts erode the very foundation of justice,” he said.

Okonkwo Foundation Holds Seminar On Career Choices For Students


The Annie Okonkwo Foundation (TAOF) has called on young people to take their education seriously and be careful in making career choices.

TOAF gave the advice at a seminar organised for secondary schools in Anambra in collaboration with the state government on Saturday.

The programme was commemoration of the second death anniversary of Sen Annie Okonkwo who represented Anambra Central District.

Mrs Chinyere-Annie Okonkwo, Chairman of Board of Trustees of the foundation and wife of the late senator, in a remark said the foundation was established by her husband as ‘Agunechemba Scholarship Foundation’.

She said her husband was a lover of education who used the foundation to uplift many brilliant but indigent students.

“He was a man who loved education, but could not achieve it at a tender age because he lost his father at the age of 18.

"He went into business, and when he became successful, he started training other people through his foundation.

He was however able to attain educational height in life before his death. When he died, we now changed the name to The Annie Okonkwo Foundation (TAOF).

"We are here to extoll his legacies and also mentor students on career choices, this foundation has been growing, today it is not just about scholarships, but mentorship, career counseling and health interventions,” he said.

In her keynote address, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of Post Primary School Service Commission said the career seminar was to review the future of education in Anambra and Nigeria.

Ikediugwu who was represented by Dr Uche Okeke, a Director in the Commission extolled the late Sen Okonkwo describing him as a father, a mentor and strong believer that education was a powerful tool to change the life of every child in our nation.

“Sen. Okonkwo's foundation has become a beacon of hope for many young people who might not be privileged enough to gain education.

“From paying WAEC fees for students to providing scholarships, the foundation represents what it means to serve humanity through education.

SWAN Anambra Chapter Condoles Kano Over Death Of Contingents In Ghastly Crash

Members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter have extended their heartfelt condolences to the people of Kano state over the ghastly auto crash involving some members of the state contingent.

Recall that some members of Kano State Team to the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abeokuta,Ogun State travelling in a 30-seater bus back to the state were involved in an auto crash .

No fewer than 20 members of the team including athletes, medical personnel, administrators and journalists were killed in the accident with others sustaining varying degrees of injury.

Anambra SWAN described the tragedy as heartbreaking and unfortunate.

The Statement which was signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, Chairman and Secretary of SWAN in Anambra said members of Sports Press deeply saddened by the news of crash.

“We, members of SWAN in Anambra State received the news of the fatal crash involving some members of Kano State team who were returning home from the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival.

“This is a tragedy too heavy for the heart to bear, considering that they had just finished from the festival where they not only proved their mettle in their various events but also good Ambassadors of Kano.

“We join the people of Kano, especially sports journalists in Kano, to mourn this irreparable loss and pray that God will forgive their sins and grant them eternal rest.

“We also for speedy recovery for those who were injured in the incident,” it said

Kano had an impressive performance at the festival finishing 13th on the medals table with six gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze.

NBA Demands Better Protection For Members, Judicial Officers In Anambra


The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Anambra has called on the state government and all security agencies to ensure safety for its members and officers in the judicial system to enable them discharge their legal duties freely.


Mr Kevin Abonyi, the Chairman, Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries, of NBA, Anambra Chapter made the call at a news conference held at the Judiciary Headquarters, Awka on Wednesday.

The news conference was to announce the end of the 2-day boycott of courts by all lawyers in Anambra to protest the gruesome murder of their colleague, Mr Ifeanyi Rolex Iloakasia.

Iloakasia was killed in Nanka alongside his client whose bail was secured while returning from a court sitting in Ekwulobia High Court in Aguata Local Government Area on May 15.

The NBA had announced that all court sittings in Anambra should be boycotted by lawyers on May 20 to May 21.

Abonyi said the boycott was not just a symbolic protest but a firm statement against the lawlessness, insecurity and targeted attacks on legal practitioners in Anambra.

“Iloakasia’s assassination was not an isolated incident, it was another painful addition to the growing list of lawyers slain in the course of their professional duties.

“As custodians of justice, we could not and would not allow his murder to go unanswered.

“The NBA in Anambra took a decisive action to demand justice, accountability and immediate intervention from relevant authorities to ensure that legal professionals can operate without fear of violence or reprisal,” he said.

The body, therefore, demanded “swift and thorough investigation” into Iloakasia’s murder.

It also urged the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.

It appealed for “concrete security measures to protect lawyers and judicial officers from targeted attacks, including enhanced intelligence gathering and law enforcement responsiveness.

“We demand the government's intervention through the Anambra governor, with immediate steps taken to strengthen security operations beyond the existing framework of the current security outfit, ‘Operation Udogachi’.

“We want zero tolerance for violence against lawyers, ensuring that Anambra does not become a dangerous terrain for legal practice,” the association said.

2027: Atiku Should Be Statesman, Quit Contesting…Equity Movement

The Equity Movement Turn by Turn (EMTbT) has called on Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar to retire from active politics and be the statesman that he is.

Chief Gaius Ezeh, the National Coordinator of EMTbT made the call in Awka on Thursday.

Ezeh urged Atiku to shelve his ambition to contest for president in 2027 and support Peter Obi who was best candidate to save Nigerians from their leadership induced challenges.

He said if Atiku contests, he would not disrupt the rotation principle which demands that presidency remained in the South, it would also increase the chances of the incumbent remaining in office.

“My plea to Atiku Abubarkar is that he should start playing the role of an Elder Statesman.

“This is important because if this country must move forward, we have to avoid the mistake of 2023,” he said.

Ezeh thanked Atiku Abubakar for his contributions to Nigeria political development but advised him to take a bow in the interest of the country and future generation.

Anambra 2025: PDP Disowns Coalition Talks,



The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra Chapter has said it is not in alliance neither does intend to go into any as the state prepares for Nov. 8 governorship election.




The PDP said this at the end of an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on Wednesday.




The PDP in a communique signed by Mr Chidi Chidebe, Anambra Chapter Chairman, said it rejected the purported political coalition involving multiple parties which claimed to have the consent of its leadership. 




It said the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP was not engaged in any coalition discussions with any political party and consequently, the PDP in Anambra was not involved in any coalition talks.




The party called on faithful to remain focused, resolute, and unwavering in their support for the efforts of the national leadership, the Board of Trustees, PDP Governors’ Forum, and other stakeholders who were working to reposition the party.




“We strongly advise our members and stakeholders to steer clear of such activities, as they lack legitimacy, approval, or endorsement from the leadership of the party at both the state and national levels. 




“As the saying goes, no man abandons his house because of weed, we continue to pray that any man or woman raised and nurtured by this party whose intention is now to destroy it shall be put to shame,” it said.




The PDP SEC in Anambra expressed solidarity and respect for the party leaders including Sen. Ben Ndi Obi, the Southeast Zonal Leader, Gov. Peter Mba, and the National Leadership of the party. 




It commended their efforts and aligned fully with their pursuit of peace, unity, and restoration of the PDP as ‘the true hope of the Nigerian people'.




The Anambra PDP warned members to steer clear of any form of coalition meetings or political gatherings that was not approved by the party leadership as participation in such gatherings constitutes anti-party activity.

“Consequently, any office such an individual occupies shall be declared vacant with immediate effect.

Anambra Guber: Ukachukwu Will Address Insecurity, Turn Forests To Productive Land— Awogu.



Chief Arinzechukwu Awogu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu, candidate of the party has the capacity to turn difficulties into opportunities for Anambra people if elected on Nov. 8.

Awogu who is the National Coordinator of Ikemba Front said this while addressing members of APC at the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Anambra during the one day working visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 8 .

The former Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Council said the insecurity ravaging the state would end with the emergence of Ukachukwu as governor of the state.

He said one of the immediate priorities of Ukachukwu's administration would be the restoration of security and turning the bushes and forests being used by criminals and terrorist herdsmen to perpetrate evil into positive use.

Awogu lamented the setback the state had suffered on account of insecurity including the brutal murder of two serving lawmakers in the state.

"Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu will turn Anambra forests occupied by criminal elements into land of productivity and industrialisation. Security will be a focal point as its availability will drive the chains of development that Anambra people needed dearly

“Ukachukwu's government will take the provision of security and welfare of the people as its primary purpose,” he said.

SEDC debunks allegation of obtaining N25bn ‘secret’ loan



The Southeast Development Commission (SEDC) has said it has not obtained a N25 billion loan from any commercial bank as alleged by Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU).

ASITU had alleged that SEDC secretly secured a ₦25 billion loan at a 30 percent interest rate from a commercial bank without approvals from the Debt Management Office (DMO) or the National Assembly.

But the SEDC in a Statement made available to Journalists on Monday described the allegation as entirely
false, misleading, and a calculated attempt to distract the Commission's mandate and early progress.

The SEDC in the Statement entitled “Statement
Re: Alleged N25 Billion ‘Secret’ Loan” said emphatically that it had not obtained any loan facility from any financial institution.

It said since Inauguration on Feb, 11, SEDC had focused on extensive stakeholder engagement with Southeast governors, the organized private sector, civil society organisations, development partners, development finance institutions and the
general public to co-create a strategic roadmap.

It said said roadmap which defined the Commission's
vision and priority programme would be made public during the 100th day in office of the Commission on May 12 while noting that implementation of 2025 budget had been extended to June 30 by the Senate

It said the SEDC remained committed to transparency, fiscal discipline, and accountability and urged members of the public to disregard unsubstantiated claims but continue to support the Commission's efforts to deliver sustainable development in the region.

According to the Statement, the attention of the SEDC has been drawn to a report
alleging that the Commission secured a N25 billion "secret" loan from a commercial bank without statutory approvals.

“This claim is entirely
false, misleading, and appears aimed at distracting from the Commission's mandate and early
progress.

“We wish to state clearly: SEDC has not obtained any loan facility from any financial institution.

“While awaiting the commencement of the 2025 Appropriation Act, the SEDC has focused on laying a strong institutional foundation.

“In line with its developmental mandate, SEDC has and continues to explore various financing options including preliminary discussions around a potential short-term bridge facility,” it said.

The SEDC said if pursued, such a facility would be strictly within the bounds of its approved budget and full compliance with the law with difference to appropriate oversight by the Debt Management Office and other regulatory and supervisory bodies.

It said its actions would be guided by the letters of line the SEDC Act 2024 (as amended).

“Any financing arrangement will be transparently procured and responsibly applied to support early
program rollout, and the launch of our Quick Win agenda - in alignment with the Renewed Hope
Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” it said.

APC, PBAT Have No Alliance With Soludo On Anambra Guber



The All Progressives Congress (APC) says neither the party nor President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have any form of alliance with Gov. Chukwuma Soludo on the Nov. 8 governorship election in the state.

Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu National Vice Chairman South-East of APC said this while addressing members of the party at the Chinua Achebe Airport, Umueri , Anambra during the one day visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the State.

Arodiogbu called on the good people and electorate of Anambra to disregard the purported claim of alliance between President Tinubu and Soludo on the governorship election saying it was ‘a lie from the pit of hell’.

He said Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu was the candidate and choice of APC noting that President Tinubu was a great party man who would not trade his candidate on the altar of alliance for second term for Soludo.

He said the APC was aware of the discontent among Anambra people including students, traditional, market community against Soludo noting that they were not surprised at the governor’s desperation to play the Tinubu Card.

He said Soludo only tried to use Tinubu's visit to achieve ‘photo-opportunity’ with the aim of reviving his ‘dying’ political image.


According to him, there is no alliance between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Gov. Soludo in the Anambra governorship election.

“He has been lying to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that there is no APC in Anambra but with what Mr President saw at the airport he is not only convinced that APC exists in Anambra but also that APC is ready to win the governorship election here.

“We want to tell Soludo that APC is here to win the election come Nov.8, 2025, that is why we are fielding a strong candidate in the person of Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu (Ikukuoma-the wind of glory), a man loved by the people of Anambra,” he said.

Recall that President Tinubu was received at the Airport by an overwhelming presence of APC members when touched down on May 8 for the one day working visit.

The President took cheers from the excited party members and responded accordingly by waving and saluting them before proceeding for activities of the day.

Omokri Will Be Diplomatic Burden, Citizen Writes Senate


Mr Valentine Obienyem, a lawyer and media personality, has urged the Nigerian Senate not to confirm the appointment of Mr Reno Omokri as an ambassador to save Nigeria from international embarrassment.

Obienyem in a Statement entitled “Re: The Unsuitability of Mr Reno Omokri for Ambassadorial Appointment” said he was guided by patriotic duty to draw the attention of the Senate to the troubling nomination of Omokri for an ambassadorial position.


He said Omokri had publicly and internationally crossed some lines which made him unsuitable for certain dignified offices, especially one that required him to be a representative of the nation before the world.

According to him, Mr Omokri, in the very recent past, launched a sustained, venomous campaign against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“In his own words, Mr Omokri described the President as a “drug addict,” a “drug pusher,” “an invalid who has lost his faculties,” and “the grandfather of corruption.”

“These statements were not made in private or in the heat of a distant youth. They were published, repeatedly and deliberately, for the world to see, he said.

Obienyem wondered what message Nigeria intended to send to the host country if Omokri was confirmed to represent Nigeria there.

He said Omokri s character and credibility would be a burden to Nigeria’s diplomacy if her chosen envoy had publicly declared the very man who appointed him a criminal and a moral wreck.

“How will Nigeria be respected when our ambassadors are seen as people whose personal convictions can be bent for convenience, or who are rewarded despite undermining the dignity of the state,” he queried.

Obienyem said his view was not partisan as Omokri had rights to freedom of association and political expression in a democracy but maintained that he was unfit to represent Nigeria abroad as an ambassador Which required honour, consistency and decency.

He said if President Tinubu found Omokri useful and insisted on appointing him, it should be to a domestic role as an aide or minister, where the embarrassment would be local.


“Our nation is already struggling to build an image of credibility and cohesion, we must not compound it by sending a man whose public record will haunt his diplomatic mission from the moment he lands.

“I trust that the Senate, under your watchful and distinguished leadership, will act in the interest of Nigeria’s dignity and reject this nomination,” he said.

IPMAN Enugu Rolls Out Estate Project To Address Housing Challenge, Secure Investment





The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced the commencement of sale of the IPMAN housing estate to members under the Enugu Depot Community and the larger society.

Rev. Fr Emmanuel Obimma, a Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke has thrown his support for the candidacy of Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu for the Nov. 8 governorship election in Anambra.

Obimma popularly known as (Ebubemuonso) expressed his support when Ukachukwu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) paid him a private visit at his parish, Tansi Parish Umudioka in Dunukofia Local Government Area on Monday.

Anambra NUJ In Turmoil, Suspends Vice Chair, Chairman Accused of ASUU Agenda


Crisis has rocked the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, resulting in the suspension of the council's Vice Chairman, Betty Onuchukwu Ikweme, barely two months after the council's elections.


The suspension was announced in a disclaimer public notice issues on Saturday by the union's secretary, Okechukwu Onuegbu, PhD.

The crisis erupted following online media reports claiming that the Correspondents' Chapel of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, had inaugurated a new leadership, with Comrade Chuks Ilozue of Daily Independent as Chairman.

However, the State Working Committee of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, disputed these claims, stating that the reports were untrue and fictitious.

The committee held an emergency meeting on March 26, 2025, and resolved that the election and inauguration were null and void, as they failed to follow the provisions of the NUJ Constitution.

The committee also noted that the Correspondents' Chapel had not paid practice fees and check-off/professional fees arrears owed by most of their members from 2022 to 2025, as required by the NUJ Constitution.

As a result, Vice Chairman Beatrice Onuchukwu-Ikwueme was suspended for witnessing the disputed election and inauguration, which was viewed as anti-union.

The union lamented that unprogressive elements in the correspondents chapel had rubbished the six months' effort to do the right thing, and appealed to members to follow due process to avoid ridiculing the union.

Reacting to the development, a member of the Correspondents'chapel who would not want to be mentioned at this stage of the crisis said,"The executive rascality pervading the landscape and space of NUJ Anambra State Council had reached tipping point, that is what you get when full-time classroom teacher is allowed to manage affairs of practicing journalists.

Afterall, he has nothing to lose; he can destroy NUJ today and contest ASUU tomorrow.
"Those who opposed him in last election where he was disqualified for ineligibility and later cleared for whatsoever reason were right.

Sen. Umeh Did Not Receive Money To Support State Of Emergency In Rivers


Chief JoeMartins Uzodike, an elder statesman has said Sen. Victor Umeh did not coordinate sharing of money nor receive same to support Senate approval of State of Emergency slammed on Rivers State.

Uzodike said he was with Umeh in house on Tuesday until it was time for break of Ramadan Fast when the Umeh proceeded to Senate President's house to join others for IFTAR.

The Elder Statesman said contrary to the report, there were other Labour Party Senators at the IFTAR.

According to him, on Tuesday evening the Senators gathered at the Guest House for the traditional IFTAR ( Breaking of Fasting ) with the Muslim brothers.

"These individuals have labored diligently in countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, and they seek a secure place to call home—a vision that inspired the establishment of Winhomes."

She said the group undertook comprehensive due diligence in acquiring the demolished property, securing the Governor's Consent and purchasing land that is accompanied by a Certificate of Occupancy.

"Furthermore, we possess a Right of Way clearance from the Lagos State government, confirming that the land is free from all encumbrances and is not situated within the designated alignment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

She added that: "In 2022, I began to hear unsettling rumors regarding the imminent construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. Initially, we felt no concern, as our property does not fall along the established route.

“However, following the appointment of Engineer David Umahi as Minister for Works, significant deviations from the designated alignment were proposed, despite his assurances—both private and public—during stakeholder meetings at Eko Hotel, that he would adhere to the original plan.

"Instead, he chose to seize properties from those who have not built along the alignment, leaving those who have constructed on the alignment in a precarious position.

"Recently, Engineer David Umahi publicly insulted and threatened me, subsequently initiating the demolition of properties within the Winhomes estate at Okun Ajah.

This action is in direct violation of the directives issued by the Federal High Court of Lagos State, which mandated that he, along with HighTech, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Lagos State government, refrain from any construction activities while the case remains unresolved."

The protesters accused Umahi of incompetence, calling on President Tinubu to relieve him of his duties.

They also called for extensive investigation into the matter, saying they will stop at nothing to ensure that Nigerian leaders are held accountable for their actions in office.

They said: "Mr. President Sir, We demand that the government introspects and rectifies this course of action.

“We ask for a thorough investigation into the process that led to these illegal and evil demolitions, the undertone of corruption.

"Transparency is non-negotiable; accountability is essential. If we do not demand integrity from our leaders, how can we expect to foster a culture of trust and progress across Nigeria?

"It is time for us to rise together, to raise our voices and signal to Engr. Umahi and any other leader that such actions will not be tolerated. We must hold our leaders accountable—demanding that they remember their duty to uphold the constitution, serve the interests of all citizens equitably, and respect the rule of law above all.

"We painfully pass a vote of no further confidence on Dave Umahi, pray and demand from our dear Father the Mr President a ‘’full transparency of project plans’

Dorman Long Engineering HR Funmi Elesha Accused of Bullying, Harassment, Others




Dorman Long Engineering Limited Human Resources Head one Funmi Elesha has been accused of bullying and harassment by a former employee of the company Owolabi Sodiq.

Sodiq, who resigned his position as Human Resources Assistant of the company on July 24, 2024, alleged that Funmi also accused him of stealing.

In the resignation letter dated July 24th 2024 and addressed to the group Head, Human Capital Management, Dorman Long Engineering Limited, Owolabi informed the company that he resigned his position as the Assistant Human Resources Assistant because of the abuse he has suffered in the hands of Funmi Elesha.

According to him, “I have greatly valued the opportunity to contribute to Dorman Long Engineering Limited and to work alongside the HR team.

“However, I regret to inform you that I have experienced harassment and bullying over time by the Group Head, Madam Funmi Elesha.

“I have been reduced to a shadow of myself and have been repeatedly called derogatory names such as "thief, fool, stupid, and has baselessly accused of stealing from the company through contract staff overtime.

“Despite my hard work, sacrifices, and commitment, the situation has only worsened, making it unbearable for me to continue working under these conditions.

“My resignation is not because I have secured another opportunity but because my mental health is at risk if I continue in this employment, " Owolabi disclosed in his resignation letter.

Owolabi further appealed to the management of Dorman Long to conduct an investigation into the shabby treatment of staff members of the company to ensure that no employee suffered similar fate in the future.

Sources in the company revealed that the working environment at Dorman Long Engineering Limited Lagos was very toxic and uncertain, adding that staff were hired and fired at the whims and caprices of the HR Group Head, Funmi Elesha.

This year alone, the sources said she had caused the sack and resignation of more than five management staff.

To maintain the professional standard of reporting, the company was contacted and given two weeks to respond to the accusations through the Managing
Director of Dorman Long Engineering Limited Mr Chris Ijeli and the chairman Timi Austin Peters but till the time of filing this report, there was no response from both.

However, the aggrieved staff threatened to drag Dorman Long Engineering Limited to court over unpaid entitlements and for allowing Funmi Elesha to perpetuate such inhumane acts under the umbrella of the company.

The burden of proof of sexual harassment, violation or rape is the major reason why only an infinitesimal percentage of cases is successfully prosecuted.

The trial is either made clumsy, unnecessarily rigorous, embarrassing for the victim or killed by the justice system.

Parents provide cover for the suspect who in most cases are friends of the family or negotiate away the pain of the victim for compensation.

Most victims walk the streets concealing their pain but with burden of risk of vulnerability in their hearts.

Having covered a bit of gender abuse cases, I know a woman who is out of her natural home because she that just must be fine in case of a tenant who violated her daughter but the husband wouldn't want the world to hear that his friend raped his daughter.

I know of a gurl who lost her job and accommodation because the man-friend of the woman she worked with was allegedly violating her daughter for less than 10 years five years.

The woman-employer threatened her to kill the matter or lose her job.

True to her threat, she ease her off from work and threw her out of her residence. The young girl of about 24 tears got tired of shuttling from where she lived to Police Command in Awka.

A woman was dragged to a Police Station for reporting that the man he married as a single mother was having canal knowledge of her 11 year old daughter.

She cried herself hoarse, her case looked stupid to everybody because the man of the house must be protected.

She was threatened with losing the marriage, the police advised that she should go and settle as it was domestic matter.

While the poor and vulnerable continue to nurse their pain of injustice, cases of rape, incest and all manner of sexual violation continue to rise.

It has become bad that men not only rape but they also kill unfortunate ones while and everybody is quick to blame the woman for being free with these men

The vulnerability of the girl child has become worsened with what happened in the Red Chambers.

If an exposed, wealthy, educated and respected woman like madam Senator can not get the attention of the society to her plight (whether true or false), it simply means that the fate of womanhood is tragically sealed.

The society seem to have formed a wall of defense around the Senate President while the accuser has been asked to go to hell

The way the case was reported seems to be more condemnable than the case itself.

The Senators' wife, who should provide home support for her husband and assure him of her support at her background, was first to go public to exonerate him and even went ahead to sue her fellow woman.(Mr Senate President must be a lucky man).

She did not consider that she is a woman and like her husband said with four daughters. *Women are indeed part of the problem to themselves*

Some people are blaming madam Senator for not reporting the alleged advances in real time rather than commending her maturity and respecting the family ties.

She possibly saw it as normal for any man to admire and made no case of it, her angst is the consequential alleged victimisation she was subjected to on account of her refusal.

While adults have the right to access themselves provided it is consensually, each of the parties have the right to refuse and this should not lead to violation or denial of the right of the parties.

In the Senate, the accused had to preside over the suspension of the accuser after her petition was thrown out and dubbed dead on arrival.

The jubilation that greeted the suspension of all attendant penalties is a Statement of how the society values women and how exposed they are.

Foundation To Provide Free Legal Services For Over 30 Detained Anambra Native Doctors



Tilova for Africa, a Charity Foundation and Equal Rights group based in America, has said it will pay for services of lawyers who will defend the rights of native doctors arrested and detained by Anambra government.

Mr Martins Nwabueze, Chief Executive Officer of Tilova for Africa said this on Monday while reacting to the arrest and detention of some native doctors by the state government as part of efforts to tackle insecurity.

Recall that Dr Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra has confirmed that Mr Chiedozie Nwangwu, Mr Onyebuchi Okocha and 28 other native doctors were still in detention and undergoing investigation for allegedly preparing charms for criminals.


Nwabueze who described the arrest and detention of persons on the basis of their religion or trade under the guise of fighting insecurity by the Anambra government as unjust profiling.

“As a Foundation, we shall work to ensure that these people enjoy equal rights like others, so, we a volunteering to provide free legal services for these people

“We are aware of the enormous safety concerns in Anambra but we should not allow the cyber antics of a few clowns parading as native doctors to make us enact laws that could impact the way of life and belief system of a people negatively,” he said


The Activist said Nigeria was a secular state where everyone had rights to practice his or her religion or ply his or her trade without discrimination, intimidation, humiliation or scapegoating.

He said traditional medicine practice is an age long profession which existed in many African societies and should not be abolished in Anambra because of presumptive evidence.

Nwabueze said his group was in total support of whatever would bring peace and security in Anambra but insisted that nobody or group should be discriminated against because of their religion.


He urged the Anambra State government to release the native if there was no evidence against them instead of keeping them perpetually in detention.

Ojukwu University Staff Urge EFCC To Investigate Allegations Of Fraud Against Ag. VC


Some members of staff of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam have called on anti corruption agencies and relevant authorities to investigate the myriad of allegations against the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kate Omenugha.

The staff of the University, represented by Mr Joseph Onu, Managing Consultant at Shield and Sword Consult, an Abuja based law firm said it unfortunate that three weeks since they wrote the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) of alleged contract racketeering and fraudulent activities of the Ag VC no investigation had commenced on the matter.

Recall that the staff in a petition to the EFCC called for the investigation of the Ag. VC for contract racketeering amounting to public violation, fraud and financial crimes using her position as the chairman of the University's Tenders Board.

They alleged that some of the infractions were Allocation for year 2024 TETFUND Special High Impact Project Intervention Disbursement of
first Tranche of Funds amounting to N4 billion and splitting and awarding the contracts against the provision of the Public Procurement Act.

“Staff Biometric Capturing Exercise” contract was awarded by the Ag. Vice-chancellor to her family members in total disregard for conflict of interest which violated parts of the Public Procurement Act 2007.

They also alleged that the facelift of the University Gate House was started by the Ag. VC and her family members without input from the Director of
Physical Planning and valuation by the Council as required by law among others.

The petitioners said such weighty allegations of graft and abuse of office should not be swept under the carpet on the account of what it called watery face-saving rejoinder by the University Public Relations Office.

They said rather than respond to the issues, the Ag. VC recruited the Students Union Government of the university which read a scripted defence for the management in respect of the alleged petition to the EFCC.

“Unfortunately, the Student Union government of the university seems to have been too hasty in sending out the purported rejoinder to the EFCC petition which has nothing to do with students.

“It was expected that the Ag VC would have written a rejoinder herself, denying the allegations in the said petition because she alone knows the truth about those allegations.

“The denial published by the university’s PRO,
was more or less an empty document that rigmarole without denying any of the said allegations in specific terms.

“Even though the hired parrots speaking for the Ag. VC were correct, how do they reconcile their position with the press Statement issued by the President of the medical students, which was corroborated by the Provost of the college both of which documents appear to have given Credence to the EFCC petition with respect to the case of the 20 Million Solar system installation in the college alleged to have been executed by the family member of the Ag Vice chancellor.


“There is a petition before the EFCC and it is the duty of the anti graft agency to investigate the allegations contained in it and it is the responsibility of the Ag. Vice Chancellor to provide answers to their interrogations on those issues and more that she may need to answer,” they said

They said COOU was a flagship institution in Anambra state and commended Gov. Soludo was working hard to reposition the institution to make it a befitting citadel of learning especially for children who desired quality education but may not have the financial capacity to access private universities.

In the Town Hall meeting on dec.19, 2024, Pro-Chancellor, Professor Chidi Odinkalu announced that Prof. Soludo had directed the drttin up of a Genius Fund which will avail indigent students from Anambra to access quality education in the university but the fund had been hijacked.

The petitioners alleged that the admission process as regards new intakes into the 2024/2025 academic year had been high-jacked, compromised and grossly monetized by the Ag Vice Chancellor, his family member and the admission officer.

They said it was an open secret that children of the less privileged were deliberately schemed out of admission into the core courses of Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Nursing and Medical Laboratories Sciences which were allegedly sold to the highest bidders by the Ag. VC and her cohorts


They alleged that no fewer than 72 beneficiaries of the TETfund Institution-Based Research grant from COOU were fleeced between N190,000 and N600,000 by coercion as kickbacks into a private Moniepoint account.

“Admission into courses such as Faculty of Law, Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Sciences were allegedly sold for as much as N3 million to undeserving candidates.

“Merit was not considered in about 80 percent of the admissions into those faculties and departments. Selling points were allegedly designated for those admission and the sellers are known staff of the university.

“It got to a point where people considered to have paid less for the admissions were removed from the list once desperate people that paid higher sums emerged.

“Not even respected officers of the university could secure admission for their wards.

“The administration of the university is now a case study in corruption and impunity, the EFCC, University Council and the Visitor to the university must take steps to end the reign of corruption and administrative rascality going on in the institution,” they said.

Activist Tackle Soludo Over Persecution Of Native Doctors ‘Dibia’


Mr Martins Nwabueze has called on Gov. Chukwuma Soludo not to make traditional medicine practitioners scapegoats in his determined fight to fight criminality in Anambra.

Nwabueze said it was wrong to challenge practitioners of traditional medicine to prove the ailments they cured as not all of them were herbalists even though herbalists were also traditional practitioners.

He said Dibia or traditional medicine practitioners like medicine was an umbrella profession
with different variants of areas of specialties adding that the government should profile them and judge them according to the specific job they claim to do.

He said herbalists were practitioners of traditional medicine known as "ndi nkpa-akwukwo na ngbologu" while dibia were into divination, " Igba afa" "Ilu agwu" " ima ita" and others which did not involve medicine.

According to him, in traditional Igbo society Dibia involves divination, "Igba afa" and a dibia or native doctor may necessarily not be a herbalist or traditional medicine practitioner.

“It is this confusion in understanding the differences between the work of a dibia and a traditional medicine practitioner that always makes Soludo to demand that a dibia must say what disease he cures or treats.

“Not all dibias cure ailments, not all dibias are herbalist, some are strictly into divination, " Igba afa" "Ilu agwu" " ima ita" and others that do not involve medicine,” he said.

Nwabueze said wondered what criteria were out in place to determine who the genuine or fake traditional medicine practitioner(dibia) were

He said it was unfair to arrest and detain native doctors labelling them criminals and quacks traditional practitioners while using the same native doctors to judge their genuineness.

He said anybody linked crime should be arrested and prosecuted irrespective of status on the weight of evidence against him or her and not on account of his or religion or social inclination.

“What made them suspects, because Soludo believes they are?I am worried that herbalists are being targeted by the Soludp administration unjustly

“Who.are the judges that will separate quacks from experts, what qualifications made one dibia quack and another expert?

“Is Soludo going to gather his own Dibia so that their snakes and Akwa okuku's snakes will fight each other to know which has more powers like the biblical Pharaoh and Moses incident?

“And why are some pastors not in custody pending the outcome of investigations to determine quacks?

“We must stop persecuting traditional religion practitioners because they are in the minority, it is unfair and it is unjust.

“Societies work better when all are treated equally irrespective of their religious beliefs, sex, disease state, color or sexual orientations.
