LONG POST ALEEEERRRRRRT!!!
I heard about EE in 2017 when my only sis was processing hers but i wasnt interested because it seemed like US lottery to me. Infact, i went with her and the kids for their medicals, we spent the whole day at the hospital. wetin our eyes see ehn, I was angry and stressed because i no know wetin be my own.
In 2018, their application was approved and i had to hasten my wedding so she could attend before they left.
Fast forward to 2019 after my brother also submitted his application, i started considering relocating (hubby was still the 'pro Nigeria person') and found this great thread where I gathered and still gathering lots of information for the journey. i dey sleep and wake on NL then ..and the PPR stories dey sweet me ehn... lol...
We decided hubby will be the PA for more points. We started his evaluation with WES which took 5 months of back and forth between WES and Unilag (lemme not even start with this gist). I sat for IELTS in August so as to ginger him and got LRWS 8,8.5,6.5,7 with less than 2 weeks of practice. Baba no gree write, kept postponing until December 2019, he had 7.5,5.5,6.5,8. Shortly after, COVID started, then lockdown! He sat for another test in December 2020 after much persuasion and had 8,5.5,7,7 At this point, I had to also evaluate my BSc to add more points (took a month for my school to send electronically and 10 days for WES to evaluate and get the report).
We immediately registered for another test in January 2021 and he got 8,6,7,7. I was sad but happy the result is enough to enter the pool. CRS was still low (405 for both of us) and we decided i become the PA but i had to do additional certificate to add to my BSc. I made a lot of research and eventually settled for a PGD. I was still dragging on applying for the PGD when my sis sent the link for NB information session to me. At that time, i didnt know its relevance and was reluctant to register. We both created a separate profile, entered the pool and registered for the session after getting hubby's IELTS TRF. I made a mistake while registering for myself, i couldn't go back or continue the application so i had to start with another email address. February 2021, i had a baby and our focus shifted for a while. Few days to the virtual session in March, hubby got the invite which he later attended. Unknown to me, i also got the invite (which i saw months later because i re-registered with my less used email). We were just glad hubby got it and we didnt lose out on it. We sent an EOI after the session.
April 2021 came and i saw people receiving LOI left and right...haaa,oluwa, wetin dey occur?? As i no see any show, I had to goan apply for the PGD jeje and was hoping to gain admission, study while we restrategize.
June 2021, One evening, people were receiving another batch of LOI in the telegram group and i was lamenting that dem don jump pass me again..The next day, Naso hubby tell me he recieved a mail to check his account and he has been trying to open his profile to no avail...I was baba,e no open bawo since morning and u no tell me?? na so i begin dey clear cookies, cache, browsing data, close and open different browser, rinse and repeat...till the profile tire and open o..I saw LOI with my eyes, i was happy ehn. Immediately, we withdrew the previous EOI and sent another one according to the mail.
We sent a mail to them and waiting game for ITA began. people were receiving ITA the day after EOI but ours didnt come. A day turned into 2 days, 5 days, a week.. we were becoming scared because I have a sibling in another province (which is considered a risk). we did research to find people in the same situation, kept hoping and praying, sent mails, no response because you see ehn, this little ray of hope meant everything to us. Baba has started picking interest in the japa journey but was tired of writing IELTS. As a last resort, we drafted a compassionate mail to show our genuine interest in the province (na only beg remain wey we no do) and we told ourselves that will be the last attempt, God should take control. Exactly a month later, we got a response to one of our mails that ITA has been sent. We were HAPPYYYY!!!
We gathered documents, took some risks: -used 100% gift deed (which we got stamped and signed by the commissioner of oaths at the high court for #50, nothing more...), -an LOE merged with the NIS application printout in place of our daughter's passport (which took about 5 weeks), - our digital photos were taken with an app on my phone (we had to take another pic of our baby for Federal ITA) -reference letter for PA (he was paid in cash and indicated in the RL but we didnt attach any cash salary certificate) and 6 months statements of current job (which was almost irrelevant) -Stanbic mutual funds investment certificate, account statement, reference letter (this one sef took 2 weeks and we had to submit the application without it, kept going to the bank until the day i made a scene and refused to leave, they sent it to my mail few hours later. - POF is in my account so we attached a letter of consent (signed by me..no notary, stamp or anything) - our marriage certificate was collected at our local government registry (we no go Ikoyi o) and it had a different profession to what we were doing at that time (people were of the opinion that it must match with the personal history). We eventually submitted. We uploaded the Stanbic reference letter and our daughter's passport when it was ready.
Remember my first IELTS in 2019 we thought we would have gotten nomination and fed ITA but it expired 3 weeks after we submitted (yeah, thats how time flies). Funds were kinda tight so no room for unnecessary spending, thats why i researched more, tried to find people in the same situation and didn't just do follow follow. We decided to wait for an ADR for updated IELTS (which never came). Hubby's CRS dropped to 387 while my profile became ineligible. Nomination wey people dey get in 1 week, e reach our turn, it came in 9 weeks! Anyway, nothing spoil!
Oct 2021, we got the nomination certificate, got federal ITA, used all documents submitted for NB, collected PCC. Few days after, i realized i wasnt offered admission to the PGD and classes have resumed already (who needs it again anyway..lol) Nov 2021, we submitted without medicals (submitted an LOE that we are outlands and will await their instructions). I joined lotssssssssss of groups on telegram, WhatsApp and some other websites just to be up to date with informations that i eventually became overwhelmed with it. I cant remember checking our profile after submitting till we got BIL in January 2022 but you see after BIL ehn, anxiety started...found myself checking multiple times a day for GUs and all. We did upfront medicals after BIL and it was passed in few days after sending mails to london office where our medicals are being assessed. I had to try and distract myself by learning a digital skill till PPR came knocking!
This japa journey tested our patience, there are times we argued, fought, laughed, prayed, encouraged each other depending on situation. Its not how far but how well and we are glad it has ended in praise!!! Thanks for reading! |

Smhaykins: Hello guys.
Please u need an enlightenment.
I was going through my Facebook page.
And I saw an advert for Cisco training, certification and placement. Fee: 67,000.
Please I don't know how effective is this in getting a job. Any possibility of me coping since I don't have any background in computer or networking.
Please advice From the comments on this thread, it is very clear some people give advise without having the proper knowledge or experience about the said topic. I can see other really great suggestions here, It is up to OP to decide. I never regretted my decision to go for CCNA as it laid a very solid foundation for me. Question : Should OP go for the Certification, I presume CCNA ? Answer: By all means go for it but make sure the training is hands on and trainer can relate with real life scenarios. Question: Is CCNA all you need ? Answer: Not at all. To survive in the IT world you need more than CCNA but having CCNA is a great way to start as it gives you a very solid foundation. From CCNA you can progress/switch as your interest leads. Question: Can you do AWS/AZURE/GCP without CCNA ? Answer : Yes for sure but having CCNA would make it a whole lot easier to understand some topics like Amazon VPC. Question: Can you make money with CCNA ? Answer: A resounding YES, depending on how solid your training/Academy is. Before the end of a good Academy, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve some network issues. How well you are able to monetize your skill depend on you. CCIE is great no doubt but how can you go from green horn to CCIE without having networking experience or from CCNA >>CCNP>>CCIE. Even when you follow the tracks, No be beans. You might want to verify the training follows CISCO curriculum. Good luck on your journey ! |

aliyuthayo: What's the Course? Cisco have many certifications training, you have to be specific. The only guide to any IT Certification is to be sure the person that'll train you is vast and can apply real live scenarios to the training. Don't just go to training center that do copy and paste style. Another One million naira advise |

linearity: Some people and advise self na wao.....
Una wey dey tell the guy make him no do CCNA or CCNP, say na CCIE be the baba, how him go take reach yonder? Some dey even say CCIE Security as if CCIE na moimoi?
Agreed, CCIE does not have any pre-requisite, but advising the OP to gun for CCIE without testing his the waters with CCNA and CCNP is almost like telling a secondary school graduate that BSc and MSc are almost everywhere now, that he should go for Ph.D. Getting CCIE is good, but as a beginner with no network working experience or other lower Cisco certification, you will be easily overwhelmed and frustrated, you may even end up hating the decision to attempt it, all because you skip a lot of basic foundational steps....don't do it!
Also, Cloud certifications like AWS, Azure, etc are good...but these are all overly networks, you are much more valuable if you also understand the underly networks and the Openstack network orchestration that feeds these overly networks and also to which these overly networks interconnect to in cases of hybrid cloud.
The OP need basic networking, routing, switching, security before he can be successful as a Cloud Engineer...After Azure Fundanmentals certifications, these basic networking principles will help him, when he start going for higher Azure or AWS certification...moreso he will be using Azure, AWS, etc cloud Achitectures to build the same underly networks that Cisco and other vendors will teach him......Also there are now many vendors e.g. Cisco software defined cloud devices that he may have to instantiate in Azure of AWS cloud, without a previous knowledge of working with these vendor devices, all this Azure or AWS knowledge and trainings wouldn't help.
There is a difference between trying to build a career and looking for a quick training to that will quickly start providing bread and butter....if the OP is looking for a career like he stated and for many others who want to build a career in the cloud....If you want to be a Cloud Engineer, do not forsake basic networking from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, etc and if you want to be a Cloud Developer, your knowledge of Software development, coding, python, shell scripting, etc will give you an edge on whatever career path you may want to choose in the cloud. OP read this over and over. My 2 cents |

" atutupoyoyo2211: Hey guys, First of all, I've got to apologize for been off for so long. I had a lot going on and i just had to be off for a while. So like i told you guys, i would be traveling to Calgary for Christmas, I did. And the journey was so freaking long. An 18 hour journey in Nigeria is no way an 18 hour journey in Canada. On my way back, i had a little accident in my car. Before i left for to Calgary, i wanted to change my tires to snow tires, but the mechanic suggested i use 'All Weather tires " so i dont have to change again during summer, and i did. I think that was a bad decision. So on our way back, we encountered a mild snow storm, and the roads were entirely white and my vehicle kept skidding. My vehicle being a front wheel drive did not help matters, so the vehicle had a bad skid and we had an accident. Luckily for us, it happened when i had already entered my province, so it could be covered by my insurance. But my deductible is quite high $2500, so i had to pay that before insurance could take over. Long story short, i spent of money a lot in Calgary, and i also spent a lot fixing my car when i got home. So i had to dip into my Savings. I was really sad but we've gotta keep living. When i got back to work, i realized the company i work with had a meeting and decided that they do not want to pay me for overtime anymore, and that they need to employ someone else for the other 8 hour shift. To be honest, this was a hard knock for me, because i just moved to a more expensive accommodation. They first complained that my long hours may be detrimental to my health, but when i suggested to them that i dont mind working without overtime pay, they agreed. Now, this made me realize they actually dont care about my health, they were not just happy that a security guard was earning so much. I am trying to decide whether i want to continue without overtime pay or look for a second job. Now as for my savings, I am starting to build it up again, its gonna be a bit hard, but i am committed to it. Happy new year to everyone Welcome back bro. First of thanks to God who has kept you safe. Also the not so cool development at your job, I guess getting a second job is the way to go. Keep the dream alive |

Newmum0615: Can everyone take a seat please? It’s going to be quite a read.
It’s my turn.
PPR has come to the glory of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
It has been a lonnnnng but rewarding experience here on this thread and in this EE journey. I have learnt a lot through months of research and waiting. If you had told me anything about relocating from Nigeria before the second week of August 2017, I would have rolled my eyes at you in apparent indifference. I was never one for living abroad. I love visiting on vacations, buying plenty stuff and coming back home. However, one day at the end of the 2nd week of August 2017, I was in the car with my husband, on our way to work and I remember vividly how I stumbled on Testden while browsing through the internet that morning. I decided to read a little and I just became fascinated with the practice texts and solving the questions. A colleague of mine who moved to Australia last year had been harping on about migrating, but I had no such plans. Hubby and I are doing quite well here, and I am also so close to my parents that the thought of staying so far away from them kept me from taking the leap.
Initially, practicing the IELTS questions was just for fun but I had a light bulb moment one day while still recovering from a surgery that almost cost me my life in a Nigerian hospital. A supposedly ‘big’ hospital. Why not take the test and work towards getting outta here? I asked myself. Hubby didn't agree at first. He is a believer now.
So voila! My first connection to anything Canadian was the IELTS test discovery via Testden. During my recuperation period, I decided that I needed a better life not just for myself but also for my kids. I considered Australia, but there is a disconnect between my first degree and work experience so I didn’t stand a chance. Canada was next on my list. I went on to research on the internet; CIC site and Nairaland popped up first among others. I have always engaged Nairaland as my go-to place for 1st hand practical experience on just about anything. It really needs to be rated among the top internet search engines in the world. We are great like that!
So, lemme not bore you with my long story joor.
Here is my timeline:
Decision to immigrate: 2nd week of August 2017.
WES evaluation received: 15th November 2017
IELTS: L8.5 R9 S7.5 W7.5
Hubby: Did very well. Maxed out on scores.
EE profile created: 1st December 2017
ITA: 6th December 2017
AOR: 1st February 2018
NA1: 2nd February 2018
Medicals passed/IP1: 12th February 2018
NA2: 16th February 2018
IP2: 27th February 2018 (the mass movement)
1st GCMS notes (ordered via gcmsbuddy.com): April, 2018 Received in less than 2 weeks
2nd GCMS notes (ordered via gcmsbuddy.com): June, 2018 Received one month later
ADR: 2 days ago. Day 179. Height & Color info + Copies of passport biodata pages (as if I didn’t provide it before)
PPR Mail: 1st August 2018. Received around past noon today. I was actually speaking in faith this morning when I was teasing y'all about having correct news . I just had the feeling.
VO: Almighty London
AOR to PPR: A whooping 181 days!
Other details:
POF: I used 3 T-bills certificates, account statement and other sources of funds. Reference letter from bank and letter from hubby giving consent to use his own portion of the funds. Used affidavit and LOE to explain huge inflows from hubby cos they were quite significant (upfront allowance from his employer). I had almost 3 times the amount needed for a family of three, so I had to exclude other sources of funds so that I don’t complicate things with a bulky upload and overwhelm the VO.
Whew! It was a battle getting that file to compress. After a 6-hour battle on submission day, I was finally able to compress it to 3.7mb. Made a mistake on the LOE in calculating total amount, was about to upload the whole file in the POF placeholder when I got a call from hubby that he had observed a mistake from his review. Had to abort mission ( ), correct it, rescan before remerging and uploading.
Employment: Got letter from my previous employer (didn’t use it in the end cos I couldn’t decide on the right NOC for it), added role in personal history. Used the one from my current employer, LOE explaining NOC change, work mails, Tax card, Staff ID card, my call card and that of my line manager. No payslips or SOA. Although I got maximum score for my previous role with current employer, I also declared my one and half year current role, same employer under my work history cos both roles showed on the same reference letter anyway, and so I had to upload the same doc again for this current role (Thanks happytbaby for calling my mind to this one. I might have missed it). Hmm, was so scared throughout the process cos I had used a different job title and NOC before ITA, but apparently, it wasn’t a biggie (thanks to @cochtrane, @einsteino, @happytbaby & @Blackbuddy for allaying my fears on this).
Education: IELTS TRF, ECA report, Degree certificates. ECA process was pretty straightforward, Naija Uni represented well. UK school, of course didn’t disappoint. Hubby’s Education: No ECA done for either degree.
Medicals: Done at Q-Life a day before I submitted (I no dey plan travel soon, so had to shift it as far away as possible). Very seamless process.
Photos: Studio 24. The hard copies we did have expired in the wake of this delay. We have to retake them.
Legal document for name change: Submitted one & the same person affidavit for hubby.
LOE: Submitted Schedule A, old UK Visa refusal notes for hubby and 1, Travel History form, affidavit for one & the same person for hubby and his birth certificate (for different names on his docs).
CSE: I noticed that I had mistakenly swapped documents in the wrong placeholders. Raised CSE and notified them of the error.
GCMS Notes: 1st & 2nd were fine. No issues.
So, as I drop my pen, abi fingers ( ), let me acknowledge and thank everyone for the great job we are all doing here. You guys are amaaaaazing! Agents and consultants are seriously learning compared to us.
As I say thank you to each and every one, lemme send a special shout out to people who were and have been consistent in making this thread a success: @40manlappy (you no answer some of my PMs in the early days of my membership here sha, I still dey beef you-smiley), @Kontagious, @happytbaby (God bless you plenty), @Glitteringstar, our able landlady and data analyst, @cochtrane, @einsteino, @Blackbuddy, @mcstan18 (you snuck up on us and became a formidable “elder” smiley), @Hephgirl (I miss you in our midst.), @Elfmannisback (thank you for being our police here), @ysteph, @Ethelia, @luffyhaki, @Tojued, @ArabianRose @TEECANN, @Threemg, @vcole @smslive2 @agates @ jholarharde and many many others I can’t name here. Una too plenty ooooo. Thank you for all the love and support. You guys made the wait easy to bear.
I kept trusting God and believing that my turn will come one day. Months back, I wrote my goods-to-follow list, made a list of all that we were going to sell off. I even decided on the school my son will go to if we were ever able to get a house within the boundary of the school board. I have researched and researched, now it feels like I already live in Canada (except for the cold. ). I appreciate the Planning for Canada session I was privileged to attend. It’s a pity that the opportunity may end soon. It really helped with my planning.
I appreciate you all for all the times you wished that this day would come sooner. Every time I saw a post praying for my PPR, I would pray and ask God to answer the prayer. May God Almighty, the One who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can ever think, ask or even imagine make our ways prosperous and grant us all fulfilled lives in Canada.
We shall meet in Canada one day. One day soon.
Excuse my dramatic post. I wasn’t going to type all these, but you guys have waited for this day, so I didn’t want to fall hand. It has been one hell of a wait. I was expecting serious excitement the day this PPR would come, but I am not as excited as I thought I would be. It’s even surprising to me. I think I am even a little afraid, but God has got me. We will all flourish in Canada. It's a must!
PS: To all our newbies, please take time out to read and understand this process. When you take offense at people who ask you to read more, it gives the impression that people that did exactly that are foolish. Imagine that no one took out time to study the process, who would you have confidence to ask for guidance? Please read, read and read. It can be overwhelming, I know, but the benefits surmount every stress you might encounter in figuring where and how to start. To access even the most basic of services in our Maple Leaf country, you would need to read and understand your rights and entitlements as a PR, T&Cs of certain services and all. Why not start now and imbibe that behavior?
…Off to continue dancing! See you guys lerra. Congratulations ! Canada is waiting for you....Go and prosper ! |

Newmum0615: You really read page zero? Ok o.
Well, no one can tell you the exact assessing body to use. It depends on either your qualification or your need for quick processing. IQAS I learnt takes a longer time but does not contact your school for verification. WES usually sends for verification, so if your school employs a lot of bureaucracy in handling these kinds of requests, you may want to avoid WES. I don't have a lot of info about ICES. They are not frequently used by people here. At least, from the little I know here. Nonetheless, your degree equivalency no matter the option you choose would fetch you 2 or more certificates. Read up more. Good luck on your journey. Thank you so much for this |

Well, no one can tell you the exact assessing body to use. It depends on either your qualification or your need for quick processing. IQAS I learnt takes a longer time but does not contact your school for verification. Hi Guys, I appreciate the support and love flying around here. I have read page 0 to the last but still a bit confused so I have to ask this.
Any idea what the Canadian equivalence for the certificates below would be ? Also which ECA body do you recommend I use for this certificate Combination (WES,ICES,IQAS)
First 1 is a National Diploma Awarded by Kaduna State Polytechnic; Geography
Second is a Bachelor of Science Certificate awarded by Bayero University Kano; Geography
Thanks in advance |

I need to quickly ask. I want to evaluate a 1 Year Certificate obtained from Aviation College Zaria (Standard Flight Operation Course). I checked on WES portal but the school is not on the list. Has anyone evaluated a certificate from NCAT before ?. Which body do you recommend I use ? |
