The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) crashed average stop rates of treasury bills at the primary market to single-digit; to 8.93% from 10.48%, Business Post can report. As anticipated, the exercise was oversubscribed, as investors staked a total of N555.98 bn on the N125 bn T-bills brought to the market by the apex bank. CBN had offered investors N4.38 bn worth of 91-day bills, N12.92 bn of 182-day bills and N107.94 bn of 364-day bills. However, when subscriptions were analysed, the bank had N58.43 bn staked on the 3-month instrument, N57.85 bn on the 6-month and N439.70 bn on the 12-month tenor. At the end of the exercise, CBN allotted N4.38 bn of 91-day bills at 7.80%, N12.92 bn of 182-day bills at 9.00% and N107.94 bn of 364-day bills at 10.00%. When compared with previous session held October 30, 2019, stop rates of the 91-day bill dropped from 9.5%, the 182-day bill from 10.45% and the 364-day bill from 11.50%. Business Post reports that if the demand for treasury bills continue, stop rates would further be lowered by the central bank at the next exercise fixed for November 27, 2019. As stated in our earlier report, investors will continue to look at the primary market for treasury bills as a result of the recent directive of the CBN on the sale of its OMO bills (READ IT HERE: https://businesspost.ng/economy/rush-for-t-bills-to-weaken-rates-at-wednesdays-pma/). This will continue to drive the rates lower until there is an inevitable need for another hike to trap investors. Chris Chapman, 59, thought he had found the love of his life when he met Julie Marsden, 55. Instead, she subjected him to years of hell. He was only allowed out of the shed twice a week. A man has bravely spoken of how he was forced to live in a shed at the bottom of his ex-partner's garden for more than a year on a diet of cold baked beans and rice pudding. Former accountant Chris Chapman, 59, is one of the first examples of a white British 'modern day slave' in Nottinghamshire and has dropped his right to anonymity in the hope others will come forward. During the 8 long years of abuse, Mr Chapman was financially drained and forced to live in a small shed with no heating, where his partner controlled the electricity. He had to bathe in a bowl of cold water, use a bucket to go to the toilet, and was only allowed out of the shed twice a week. He was also threatened, humiliated, and assaulted by his partner and her new lover, reports Leicestershire Live. Rabbits in their three-bedroom Kirkby-in-Ashfield home were treated better than he was. Mr Chapman thought he had found the love of his life when he met Julie Marsden, 55, during a tour of classic rock show Vampires Rock. He was working in lighting and he was attracted to her "comical and open" personality, but there was something far darker lurking underneath. Speaking from a hotel room, he said: "I have always been cautious but I threw caution to the wind this time and I paid for it." The pair formed a relationship in 2010, where she made promises of wedding proposals, but he believes her eyes wandered when she found out he had his own home. She forced him to sell his Leicestershire property for half the price at £50,000, and moved him into her home, where she began to suck him dry. He was also encouraged to sell off his valuables in order to assist with the bills, while she never worked again. "The house money went in six months," he said. "Every time we went out, she would say 'I would like that.' She took every penny. The abuse started when the money ran out." He said the first thing to go was his place in the bed they shared; forcing him to sleep on a single mattress under the stairs next to three freezers and a tumble dryer. She convinced him it was because he had to keep a close eye on their dogs. "I was getting more ostracised," he said. "She said 'you can leave at any time but you will be homeless. I was fearful of that option." Then, in 2016, she told Mr Chapman she wanted an open relationship and brought Gary Cooper, 53, into the home they shared. He moved into the bedroom immediately. He was told he could no longer eat at the table and was forced to have his tea on the bottom step of the stairs so he didn't make any noise. Then on a cold New Years Day in 2017, he was booted out of the home and told he must live in the 8ft by 5ft shed at the bottom of the garden, with no insulation. He had to use bottles and a bucket to go to the toilet, and could only empty the contents on the two days he was allowed out a week. As Marsden had complete control of his bank accounts, she gave him £15 a week to dip into; money that came from the £146 fortnight benefits he received for ill health. He lost seven stone (44 kg ) due to a poor diet and was given no proper cooking facilities. They even had a switch hooked up to the home where they could control his electricity. As his escape was listening to the rock music on his laptop, they would turn it off at 10.30pm, sometimes before, to prolong the suffering. "I was a slave primarily. There were more and more rules. I had no say. "When I came out of the shed I was told to go back in. 'You can't be out here. It's not allowed.' "I had to stay in the shed and I was told I could not look out of the window. If I went into the house I would have Gary threatening to hit me. I was given a bowl and an outside tap to wash. I did have a kettle but if I used that for hot water they said their bill will go up. They stopped feeding me early on - that was the first thing that was taken away. "They gave me £15 out of my benefits and I had to live off that. I had to buy my own food. It was cold baked beans, rice pudding and some bread. In the middle of the summer my margarine was turning into water. I did not even have a fan. When it was cold, it was exceedingly cold because there was no heating. Five days a week I was in there 24 hours a day." Due to the harsh conditions he developed arthritis and depression. "I certainly felt dispair. How can I live like this? How did I end up like this? I still clung onto hope, the hope that eventually she had to let me go. I really don't know why they treated me that way unless it was purely financial." Despite the years of abuse, Mr Chapman said: "I still have no degree of malice towards them." When asked why he never left, he said: "If you don't have a penny - I hadn't even got 20p in my pocket - how do you get out of something like that? The fear of being homeless was my greatest fear, which they preyed on. I felt very isolated. Lonely is not a strong enough word. I was losing the art of conversation because I was not talking to anyone and because they were telling me what to do. I did not live, I endured. It was long days of endurance getting me through each day and to keep my sanity and hope." Police came across Mr Chapman after a neighbour witnessed Cooper assaulting him in May 2018. They stumbled across his living conditions and the pair were arrested on modern slavery charges. The Crown Prosecution Service went for control and coercive behaviour in a relationship and Marsden pleaded guilty. Marsden was jailed for 16 months while Cooper was jailed for 15 months for assisting the offence. A restraining order was also made against the pair never to contact Mr Chapman. Mr Chapman was moved to a safe house for victims of modern slavery. Detective Sergeant Mike Ebbins, who works for Nottinghamshire Police's Modern Slavery Team, said: "It was a hell hole. You would not want to go into that shed. This case is a good example of our misconception that modern day slavery is foreign nationals. It is a reminder to all of us that it can happen to anyone. Chris is educated and an accountant. He has lost everything, all of his belongings are ruined." Mr Chapman added: "I have no history. It was like I was born 18 months ago. I don't even have a photo of my parents anymore. His pastor, Reverend Father Joshua Obile, described him as a peace-loving man whose major concern was to provide for his family. The clergyman said, “He doesn’t like trouble with anyone, you hardly see him exchanging words with people. “He was a lover of peace, even in his house when I come around to visit them, you will always see him up and doing. He is a man who is committed, diligent, and obedient.” Nwachukwu was seized from his residence on October 30 by suspected robbers who dispossessed him of cash, valuables, and documents of his house. Nigerian relationship expert Joro Olumofin has stated that the reason why a lot of women did not find husbands this year is because they are broke. The self acclaimed “love doctor” made this interesting revelation on his instagram page. Joro alleged that men nowadays are more materialistic than women and as such are looking to settle with women with qualities such as being financially stable and not just blessed with a pretty face. He also claimed that gone are the days when it was women who had a check list when it comes to relationships because now men have become even more demanding than women. The relationship expert then advised women to start working hard to make money because they are hustling for men as well and not just themselves. He said: “A lot of ladies didn’t get married or meet a suitor this year because of their Bank Account Balance and Socioeconomic status. THE STATE OF RELATIONSHIPS has changed. Men are now more Materialistic and Demanding than women. “Years ago, women seemed more materialistic and had a Checklist: A man must have MONEY, A CAR, A HOUSE etc. “Ladies, BREAKING NEWS. Men are no longer interested in a Pretty Face, God fearing woman and Good cook as a PRIMARY BENCHMARK for finding a wife. Today’s man's PRIMARY BENCHMARK is MONEY. “Today’s man is interested in : 1. In Your fathers surname. 2️. Today’s man doesn’t want to hear I’m unemployed. 3️.Today’s man wants to know if you have a car, your own place. 4. Today’s man wants a lady who can change his life. “This is the main reason thousands of Beautiful, God fearing ladies are single. ^So ladies, you’re not hustling for yourself alone anymore. You’re also hustling for men too. This is the new reality” SOURCE: https://www.jivenaija.com/people-places/news/a-lot-of-ladies-are-single-because-they-are-broke-joro-olumofin

According to Sahara Reporters, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Service (DSS), in collaboration with the Initiative For Peace-building Movement and Kalthum Foundation For Peace, facilitated the release of the duo. Oyeleke and his abducted secretary, Umar regained their freedom on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Recounting his ordeal in the hands of his captives, Oyeleke said, “We were on our way to Chibok when they caught us and took us to Yola; from there, they took a detour and finally took us to Sambisa. “It was the two of us, myself and my brother, who was not released. They have promised us that when they finish discussions, they’ll release them in December; himself and the elder sister of this girl I was released with. I am very happy today that we have been rescued because where we are coming from, we have come from a place of darkness to light; that is why my heart is filled with joy because I have seen my family, friends, and associates. “I stayed peacefully with them for up to seven months. Many times they requested me to convert to Islam, their preachers had preached to me a lot of times but you know when you have wisdom, you relate with people in a way that would not lead to quarrel. “When they come to preach, I pay attention to everything they said and when they asked me questions about things that I know will cause problems if I respond, I always tell them I don’t know so that I don’t say things that would offend them.” SOURCE: https://www.pulse.ng/news/winners-pastor-oyeleke-speaks-on-his-time-with-boko-haram/r5j1g7z

At least one person was confirmed dead, while others sustained injuries in a communal clash that broke out on Sunday at Okobaba, Ebute-Meta, Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos, where a fire incident had happened on Friday, November 8. Violent clash was said to have broken out in the early hours of Sunday between a group of truck pushers who specialise in scrap gathering, mainly Hausa youths, and some Odua Peoples Congress members. However, personnel of the Denton Police Station, Lagos State Command, raced to the scene of the clash and restored peace and order to the area. Narrating how the clash happened to the Lagos State Government team which visited the area on Sunday, leader of Hausa Youths in Okobaba, Mr. Hassan Ibrahim, said trouble started when some Hausa youths went to buy scraps from the burnt shanties. He said on their way back, they were “intercepted and harassed” by some “OPC miscreants” who demanded money before they could go with the scrap materials. “The youths resisted them,” Ibrahim told the government agents led by the Commissioner for Finance, Rabiu Olowo; and supported by that of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Idris Salako; Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Aderemi Adebowale-Owoeye. They were accompanied by the Chairman, Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mrs. Omolola Essien. “In the process, fight broke out. Residents of Citiview Estate in the Warewa area of Ogun State have protested against refusal of the developer, Propertymart Real Estate Investment Limited, to address the problems in the estate and give some of them title documents to their dwelling units. The residents said the developer had refused to fix the damaged infrastructure in the estate despite several letters notifying it of the condition of the estate. The homeowners, under the aegis of the Citiview Residents’ Association, during a peaceful protest at the developer’s office in the Magodo Phase II area of Lagos, on Thursday, noted that flood had damaged the entrance to the estate, making it extremely difficult for them to drive in and out. According to the residents, it would have been impossible to access the estate if not for their efforts to raise funds to purchase granite and boulders to fill the widening pothole in which a pool of water had formed and was blocking the entrance. They also complained of other life-threatening problems, including floodwater mixed with human waste, which had contaminated the water in the estate; poor drainage system, defective buildings and infrastructure, adding that many of the residents had yet to get the title documents on their property. The Vice-Chairman of the association, Aderemi Lateef, who spoke on behalf of the residents, noted that they decided to embark on the peaceful protest after previous deliberations with the developer failed to yield the desired results. He said, “The issues we are facing are multifarious; promises are not fulfilled, we have failed infrastructure, flooding of the estate, poor sewage design and implementation, lack of perimeter fencing, poor electrical infrastructure that keep failing and poor project execution. “The road that leads to the estate has failed; over 70 per cent of the residents have moved out of the estate and families are being separated; we kill dangerous animals on the estate on a daily basis and the developer is not responsive; we have held several meetings with the officials with no result to show for it and we have written so many letters without any result. “While we were coming out of the estate this morning (Thursday), the group managing director of the firm came to the estate to block us with the intention of preventing us from coming here, but we told him that we had the mandate of our people that we should deliver the letter in his office and we could not change that and we left him there.” The residents, who held a meeting with the management of the firm after the protest, accused it of intimidating them with the Department of State Services’ operatives. “When we got to the office to deliver our letter to the management, we were told that there was a third party, who was not there when we purchased the property, and the person representing the third party said he was representing the DSS; we do not know the business of the DSS in the meeting; so, we had to abort it,” Lateef added. However, the solicitor to the firm, Taiwo Adedeji, said Propertymart was working on the demands of the protesters, adding that the firm did not invite the DSS to intimidate the residents. He stated, “We had met before now but sometimes, developments necessitate the need to meet again. The protesters are our customers, whom we have engaged as stakeholders in the system and their grievances are issues that we did not just start to address. “Some of their grievances are due to natural occurrences like the flood and this is the first time it will be happening in this dimension; even when other estates around were been submerged by flood, our estate was not that vulnerable because of the infrastructure that the company put in place. “Most of the residents have received their title documents and this is not something that starts and ends on our table; it is also tied to the activities of the government; but the larger percentage of the residents has title documents, especially those who have completed their payment. “We cannot hold on to their title documents and for those who have not collected theirs, we are engaging the government to make sure that the documents come out. We are going to address all the demands of the residents, because they are our stakeholders.” Speaking on the DSS involvement, Adedeji said the operatives did not come on the firm’s request, but that they were invited by concerned residents of Magodo Phase II, who saw the protesters with placards. Most posters for domestic violence always portray the victim as a woman and generally when the subject is brought up, it is automatically assumed that the woman is the victim. There is however, a small group of men who have suffered domestic violence in the hands of women. These Nigerian men are now coming out to share their stories and experience in handling women with violent tendencies who have engaged in domestic violence against them in the past. Most of them say they simply walk away and do not give the woman a chance to repeat it again and others say they endured the domestic abuse, read some of the stories below: SOURCE: https://www.gist mania.com/talk/topic,405822.0.html

1 Tonne = 1,000 Kg Therefore, 1,520 Tonnes = 1,520×1,000 = 1,520,000 Kg. Converting to bags of 50Kg each = 1,520,000 ÷50 = 30,400 bags. Do you agree? geosuzzy: |
