African U-17 World Cup wonderkids who never realised their potential
By Ed Dove, KweséESPN

Unfortunately, Africa's starlets of the U-17 World Cup haven't always realised their potential at senior level.

Too often, a star turn at the biennial youth tournament has represented a premature career highlight for precocious talents who never managed to translate their qualities to senior level.

Unlike those African superstars who introduced themselves to a global audience at the World Cup before going onto build stellar careers in Europe, this quartet will forever be remembered as child prodigies whose trajectories stuttered.

Souleymane Coulibaly: Once upon a time, Coulibaly was hailed as the 'New Didier Drogba' after an outstanding showing at the U-17 World Cup in 2011.
He scored nine goals in four games - including an outstanding against Brazil - as the Ivorians reached the Round of 16.
The forward picked up the Golden Shoe at the competition for his contributions in front of goal, and subsequently earned a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, while the likes of Gareth Bale and Harry Kane established themselves as top-tier talents after arriving at Spurs as youngsters, Coulibaly's progress more closely mirrored the fortunes of Tomas Pekhart or Mbulelo Mabizela, neither of whom realised their potential.

It's not all over for Coulibaly, now 22, as he attempts to revive his career at Al-Ahly after stints with Kilmarnock, Peterborough United, and Newport County among others.

However, after fleeing Egypt for England earlier in the year - complaining of ill treatment in Cairo - the striker's current standing is a world away from what was once anticipated for him.

Macauley Chrisantus had the world at his feet back in 2007, when he top-scored at the U-17 World Cup as Nigeria picked up their third title.

His showings during the tournament in South Korea - notably scoring five in three group-stage matches - reportedly attracted interest from teams of the calibre of Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, and duly, some eyebrows were raised when he opted for Hamburg.

Perhaps, one could reason, that the German club would offer him a quicker route to the first team than some of his other more heavyweight suitors.

Chrisantus himself was optimistic, and later blamed the club's significant turnover of managers - 10 in six years - as the key reason for his stagnation.
He netted 20 goals in 67 appearances with Las Palmas, and recently joined up with compatriot Suleiman Omo at Greek side PAS Lamia 1964 following a trial at Wisla Krakow.

Ishmael Addo looked set to become Ghana's next attacking sensation - following in the footsteps of Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah - when he won the Golden Shoe at the 1999 U-17 World Cup, becoming the fourth African player to clinch the award.

Alongside the likes of Michael Essien and Razak Pimpong, he struck seven as Ghana finished third, and turned on the style during the latter stages of the competition as he netted four in three knockout games.

The fleet-footed Addo won a quintet of Ghanaian titles at Hearts of Oak, and retains the record for the most single goals in a Ghanaian top flight season after scoring 22 in the 2000-01 campaign.

His achievements on home soil and at the U-17 World Cup in Argentina were never replicated during the rest of his club career, as things petered out in Israel after a promising start to life with Maccabi Netanya.

His meteoric rise and subsequent toil were replicated - a decade later - by another Ghanaian wonderkid, Dominic Adiyiah, who's still to truly demonstrate the class he showed at the U-20 World Cup in 1999 on a consistent basis.

Nii Lamptey memorably dazzled spectators at the 1991 event in Italy as Ghana clinched the title, and was once tipped by Pele as his successor.

During the youth-team showpiece, he outshone the likes of Alessandro Del Piero and Juan Sebastian Veron and appeared set for a long and glittering career at the pinnacle of the game.
Indeed, for the Black Stars, the prospect of Lamptey lining up alongside Abedi Pele was a mouth-watering prospect.
However, after being smuggled to Europe after being passed off as the son of Nigeria legend Stephen Keshi, Lamptey's career declined.

He struggled to adapt to life in England after starring in Belgium, and later explained how a combination of exploitative agents, the loss of his support network and unrealistic expectations prompted his downfall.

(Photo Confirmation) Nigeria Target In Line To Make Eagles Home Debut Vs Chelsea

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/19680Ladapo1.png

Nigeria Football Federation target Freddie Ladapo is in line to feature for the Eagles when they tackle champions Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

The ex-Flying Eagles invitee has been photographed training with the first team as Crystal Palace stepped up their preparations for the match day eight fixture against the Blues.

Manager Roy Hodgson is being forced to play Ladapo after first-choice striker Christian Benteke suffered an injury, and handed him his competitive debut in the 4-0 loss to Manchester United before the second international break of the season.

Before Ladapo's appearance at Old Trafford, the highest division in the pyramid he has played in was the third-tier for Oldham Athletic A.F.C and Shrewsbury Town.

The London-born striker played the last sixteen minutes against the Red Devils, and could come up against Super Eagles star Victor Moses on Saturday.
Crystal Palace have zero points and no goals after their first seven games of the new season.

CAF Set To Name 2018 CHAN Hosts, Confirm Cameroon For 2019 AFCON

https://i2.wp.com/www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/caf.jpg

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will announce the new hosts of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Saturday.

This was revealed during a meeting of the CHAN organising committee on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.

Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Ethiopia are the three countries in the running for the hosting rights of the 2018 CHAN.
Kenya, who were initially billed to host the tournament, had their right to host withdrawn by CAF due lack of preparations.

The CHAN tournament, which is for players in the domestic leagues only, is due to kick off in January.

Meanwhile, CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, who was present at Wednesday meeting, reaffirmed that Cameroon are still set to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“At no time had any consideration been given to revisiting decisions already taken in conformity with the provisions of the Statutes and leading to the designation of Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Guinea, as host country of the next three editions in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

“Our role is to best accompany Cameroon, which organizes in 2019, in a new format, to properly fill in the list of requirements of the host agreement,” Ahmad said.
The home-based Super Eagles eliminated Benin Republic 2-1 on aggregate in the play-offs for next year’s CHAN.

John Ogu, Etebo & Iheanacho Will Play Against Algeria – Eagles Coach Rohr Suggest

https://i0.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/IMG_3662-1.jpg

A much changed but strong senior national team of Nigeria will be lined up by coach Gernot Rohr when the Eagles take on Algeria in their final World Cup 2018 Qualifiers in Algiers.

Nigeria are already through to the World Cup in Russia courtesy of their 1-0 win over Zambia on Saturday in Uyo, but Rohr insist they will approach the game with the seriousness it deserves.

A whole lot of players will be given the chance to showcase themselves in the game according to Rohr as he wants to provide every player with a chance to stake a claim for a start.

It means players like John Ogu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Anthony Nwakaeme and co who have been frozen out of the starting line up are going to be strong contenders to start in Algiers.

” We never go to a match with second team, we want to win our last match as well. At least not to lose so we can qualify without losing any game, it will be wonderful this is another challenge but I think we will play a second friendly game perhaps in Morocco to see all the players who couldn’t play in our previous games”, the coach said.

Iwobi following in uncle Jay Jay's footsteps

https://img.fifa.com/mm/photo/tournament/competition/02/91/16/28/2911628_large-lnd.jpg

Back in July 1993, a young Nigerian midfielder grabbed a game by the scruff of the neck and set his side on the way to their first ever FIFA World Cup™. Almost a quarter of a century later, his nephew scored the goal that took Nigeria to their sixth global finals.

Jay Jay Okocha’s second cap for his country saw the then 19-year-old score a superb free-kick equaliser in a World Cup qualifier against Algeria, a game his side would go on to win. Some say Okocha’s performance that day was a pivotal moment in his country’s campaign on the road to USA 1994.

Alex Iwobi may be a couple of years older than his uncle was when he scored that crucial qualifying goal, but his youthful exuberance played its part in the strike that sent the Super Eagles soaring back to the world stage.

On as a substitute in the tense Group B tie against Zambia, the Arsenal man had been on the pitch less than ten minutes before he arrived at just the right time to stroke home Abdullahi Shehu’s cutback from the right wing.

The Uyo crowd were sent into delirium, much like the Lagos faithful were in July 1993 – three years before Iwobi was even born – when his uncle sent them into raptures with his superb set-piece.

Unsurprisingly, comparisons have been made throughout Iwobi’s career. Uncle Jay Jay was once asked who Iwobi admired as a child. “It should be me, I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t!” Okocha told Joe.co.uk.

And he would be right.

“I was always looking up to my uncle,” Iwobi told Arsenal’s official website. “Everyone knew that he was a very big figure in Africa.”

---

Jay Jay Okocha
In WCQ:
20 games: 12W/3D/5L
4 goals

At the World Cup:
9 games: 3W/1D/5L

Alex Iwobi
In WCQ:
3 games: 3W
2 goals

---

Iwobi’s observation is certainly accurate. Okocha went on to play at the 1994 World Cup that he helped his country qualify for, followed by France 1998 and Korea/Japan 2002.

Russia 2018 now awaits Iwobi, and one presumes uncle Jay Jay will be watching on with beaming pride.

“A dream come true. We’re heading to the World Cup. Nice to get the winning goal, massive thanks to our fans. The atmosphere was crazy,” Alex Iwobi .

Rohr : Zambia Game Was The Most Difficult For Us In The World Cup Qualifiers

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/2408Ekong%20-%20Copy.png

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has praised his players for beating Zambia’s Chipolopolo and booking their place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Saturday.
Speaking at the post-match conference, the German said: ''It was a very difficult game, in fact the most difficult for us in the qualifying series because of what was at stake, because we knew a win would take us there and we were eager to finish it off.

''I commend the Zambians for their spirit. They fought very hard. This team was different from the one we defeated in Ndola last year; this was a much better and stronger team.

''I am very happy for the players and for this great nation, for us to qualify with a match in hand.

''It is a good feeling and after this night, we will begin to plan about how to prepare for the World Cup.

''But we have the final match in Algeria next month, and perhaps we can have a friendly within that window as well and begin the preparation for Russia 2018.''

Nigeria travel to Algeria for their dead rubber tie against the North Africans on November 6, 2017.

If you followed my analysis on the historical trend that I placed here concerning the matches between the super eagles of Nigeria and the chipolopolo(copper bullets) of Zambia I pointed out that this southern African team is a bogey team to our team and it reflected in our game in uyo. They had a cunning plan and it almost worked to perfection but thanks to the experience of the team as the Zambian coach put it it paid off especially with the introduction of Alex Iwobi who brought life into the attack with the assistance of the man of the match winner Abdullahi Shehu. So the coach was absolutely spot on. I doff my hat for our team.

Rohr says Eagles to be unbeaten in World Cup qualifiers, plans Morocco friendly

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has said that despite qualifying the Super Eagles to next year’s World Cup he hopes to end the qualifying series unbeaten in Algeria next month.

The Eagles have an unassailable 13 points in Group B and face Algeria on November 6 in their final group game.

“We want to win in Algeria so that we‘re unbeaten,” he said.

“It will be a challenge, but we’re ready for it.”
Algeria are bottom of Group B after they lost 2-0 in Cameroon today.
He also disclosed that Nigeria plan a friendly in Morocco after
the qualifier in Constantine, Algeria, as Nigeria begin preparations for Russia 2018 in earnest.
The Franco-German coach admitted the Eagles were stretched by visiting Zambia today before they could go on to carry the day.

“We were lucky that Iwobi came off the bench to make the difference,” said Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr.

“It was a difficult game and we didn’t underrate Zambia. We knew it will be a tough game and that was the case.”

How Super Eagles Team A & B Lined Up In Wednesday Evening's Training

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/83408Awaziem1.png

The Super Eagles held their second training session at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Wednesday evening.

After an initial physical session of stretching and running, manager Gernot Rohr organized two mini-games in a reduced size pitch with all the players named to the 23-man roster for the World Cup qualifier against Zambia taking part.

The first practice game involved 'monkey posts', with long flexible poles, while three quarters of one half of the training pitch was used for the second training game.

Victor Moses, who arrived in Uyo today, took part in the session as well as Elderson Echiejile, having overcome his injury problem.

Team A wore blue bibs on top of green jerseys and contained Elderson Echiejile, Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun, Abdullahi Shehu, Eddy Onazi, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Tony Nwakakeme.

Chidozie Awaziem, Uche Agbo, Ola Aina, John Ogu, Mikel Agu, Afeez Aremu, Oghenekaro Etebo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Moses Simon and Odion Ighalo were in the team that wore green jerseys without bibs (Team B).

Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Ajiboye were involved in a session with the goalkeeper trainer as the outfield players were doing their thing.

During the second training game, the teams were the same, with the exception of the fact that the two Akwa United midfielders Ifeanyi and Aremu were replaced by Akpeyi and Ezenwa respectively.

Super Eagles ignoring Zambia mind games
By Colin Udoh, KweséESPN

Attempts by Zambia to spark a war of words with Nigeria ahead of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier are falling flat, with the Super Eagles players refusing to take the proverbial bait.

When asked about the continued stream of words coming out of the Zambia camp, a posse of Nigerian players refused to be drawn, even declining to go on record.

"Let them talk, I am not doing any talking for this match," a prominent Nigeria player told KweséESPN.

"We have seen all what they are talking. Our focus is on our game."

Team official Patrick Pascal emphasised the squad's focus on preparations rather than talk, ahead of their clash in Uyo on Saturday.

"They don't want to say anything. They have left all the talking to the Zambians. The say the coach will speak for them while they focus on qualifying for the World Cup," Pascal said.

"Those who will attend the press conference, like the captain, will do so but they just want to do their talking on the field."

The impressive Israel-based forward is hoping to prove himself against the Chipolopolo if given a chance by Gernot Rohr
Anthony Nwakaeme is eager to make a big impression if handed his debut against Zambia on Saturday.

The forward was called up for the clash against Cameroon, thanks to his awe-inspiring form at Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

But the 28-year-old did not make his much-awaited international bow as the Super Eagles recorded impressive results against the reigning African kings.

While expressing his contentment despite his no-show against Hugo Broos’ side, Nwakaeme has vowed to prove his worth if fielded against Wedson Nyirenda’s men.

“If that happens, I will embrace with my hands and legs because I am here to play for my country,” he told Goal.

“The coach has the final say but left for me, I’m fully prepared to take my chances and make Nigerians happy. “No bad mood not playing against Cameroon because we achieved our aim. Besides, it’s all about time and I know it will come soon.

“It was a great experience watching my team demolish Cameroon 4-0. And against Zambia, I expect good football and same hunger like we showed in our last game because we are ready and know what is at stake.”

Rohr has the full compliment of the players invited for the game in Uyo, with Nigeria needing a win to seal her passage to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Aside their presence, the coach also revealed that their fitness level and commitment has also made it hard for him in deciding on a starting line up for the game.

“Everybody is looking fit, no injuries so I hope that it will be

Why Zambia Game Will Be More Difficult Than Cameroon – Rohr Explains

https://i2.wp.com/owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/IMG_3593.jpg

Players of the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been warned to
expect a fight tougher than what they had in their back to back games against Cameroon when they take on Zambia on Saturday.

Coach Gernot Rohr who lead the Eagles to a win and a draw against Cameroon is one win away from qualifying the Super Eagles for the World Cup in Russia next year.

However he has cautioned his lads to be at their best as the Zambians are a much improved side from the team the Eagles beat 2-0 in Ndola in the reverse tie.

” We are looking at making the decision in our group. Of course, if we win this game on Saturday, you know that we have qualified, everybody wants to do it. But we know also that Zambia is a good team”, Rohr said.

” They are champions of Under-20 in Africa, they have a different team now from the one they had in Ndola. So we must not underrate this team.

” We have a lot of respect for this Zambian team. They beat Algeria twice, we know it would not be easy. I think it would be even more difficult than the Cameroon game,” he concluded.

Zambia has always proved to be a bogey and competitive team against Nigeria. The last game in ndola also pointed to that. The head 2 head meetings suggests that the Zambians are not an easy going but when it matters the most Nigeria conquers even when the super eagles are not always impressive in the game. So either ways G. Rohr has a point but like I said I expect a real battering of the Zambians.

The senior national team of Zambia popularly call the Chipolopolo arrived Abuja, the capital of Nigeria earlier today ahead of their World Cup 2018 Qualifiers clash against Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

They will spend the night in Abuja, where they will be lodged at the prestigious Bolton White Hotel ahead of their journey to Uyo, Akwa Ibom state venue of the game.

Zambia need at least a draw to keep their hope of qualifying for next year World Cup alive after back to back win over Algeria during the last round of games.

Nigeria who are leading the group need a win to gain an unassailable lead with a game to spare, and they will be gunning for victory over Zambia like they need in their first qualifiers in Ndola.

The Super Eagles triumphed 2-1 in Ndola with goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, but Zambia have recovered from the loss and are now the only team in the group with a chance of overhauling Nigeria.

Zambia Suffer Setback As Club Paperwork Knocks Star Midfielder Out Of Eagles Game
By Kayode Ogundare in Accra

Chipolopolo of Zambia’s preparations for the all-important win-or-bust game against Nigeria on October 7th suffered a setback with the inability of Sweden-based Edward Chilufya to join the team.

Chilufya, who’d been expected to storm the Ghana training camp of the Zambians latest by Tuesday afternoon sent word, according to Team Manager Chris Chibuye, that he would no longer available for the game in Uyo next Saturday.

This was because his work permit paperwork was not yet finalised after signing a contract on turning 18 years.

Chilufya, who played both legs of the double victory over Algeria was expected to be one of the key figures in Coach Wedson Nyirenda’s new look Chipolopolo side aiming to reach a first ever World Cup.
His absence is another blow to a team that has seen the withdrawal through injuries of stalwarts like Brian Mwila and Emmanuel Banda.

Key:
L= Nigeria lost

D= Nigeria drew

W= Nigeria won

07 Oct 2017 Nigeria v Zambia FIFA World Cup What shall be the outcome? This game is very tricky but recent meetings suggest a Nigerian victory. Do we still remember that Nigeria's comprehensive victory over the Indomitable lions of Cameroon changed the history of that fixture? So I will now say that this fixture will change the course of the historical games between this two. Nigeria must win in order to prove to the southern Africans that they are extremely superior over them. Zambia has proven to be the bogey team as they have scored at least four goals against the Super Eagles of Nigeria but the recent games at the Godswill Akpabio International in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state suggests that Nigeria does not lack any scoring instinct. So I will go for a resounding victory. What kind of performance do you want the Nigerian team to put up? If you were the coach of the national team how will you prepare your team?

ROUND-UP: Four Nigerian Stars On Target, Awaziem Shines; Success, Musa Dropped
By Johnny Edward

Four Nigerian players William Troost-Ekong, Michael Odibe, Taiwo Awoniyi and Abdul-Jeleel Ajagun were on target in Europe for their respective clubs who recorded mixed results on Saturday.

Super Eagles forward Victor Moses was an unused substitute for Chelsea who were outclassed in a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, London on Saturday.

It was Chelsea’s second home defeat this season without Moses after their 3-2 opening day loss to Burnley. The only goal of the game was scored by former Chelsea player Kevin De Bruyne in the second half. Moses has made five English Premier League starts this season.

Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi made his seventh English Premier League start of the season for Leicester City who forced AFC Bournemouth to a 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

His compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho came on in the 69th minute for Shinji Okazaki as the game ended in stalemate. It was his Iheanacho’s appearance for Leicester City while Ahmed Musa was not listed for the game.

At the Hawthorns, Isaac Success was not listed for Watford who forced West Brom to a 2-2 draw. Success is yet to feature for Watford in the EPL this season.

In Italy, Orji Okonkwo was an unused substitute for Bologna on Saturday against Genoa in Serie A. Orji has made three appearances with his only goal for Bologna coming against Sassuolo.

Michael Odibe scored his first goal of the season for Akzhayik Uralsk who lost 3-2 to Ordabasy Shymkent in the Kazakhstan first league. The former Nigerian international has made 29 appearances for Akzhayik Uralsk who are 10th in the table with 29 points from 30 games.

Super Eagles stars William Troost-Ekong and Mikel Agu both made their seventh Turkish Super Lig starts of the season for Bursaspor who lost 3-1 away to Kayserispor on Saturday. Troost-Ekong scored his second goal of the campaign in the defeat.

Kelechi Nwakali made his first Dutch Eredivisie division start for VVV Venlo in their 1-0 away win over Excelsior. It was Nwakali’s fourth appearance in the Dutch Eredivisie division since he joined on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal.

In France, Chidozie Awaziem played for 63 minutes in Nantes 1-0 win over Metz. Awaziem has made seven appearances this season and has been called up for Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia on Saturday. He was replaced by Yassine El Ghanassy.

In Belgium, Taiwo Awoniyi scored his second goal of the season for Royal Excel Mouscron who were held to a 2-2 draw at home to KV Mechelen. Awoniyi doubled his side’s lead in the 26th minute after Fabrice Olinga had opened scoring in the ninth minute. Late goals from Rob Schoofs and Elias Cobbaut earned KV Mechelen a share of the spoils from the encounter.
Ajagun scored his second goal of the season in his 10th appearance for Kortrijk who lost 2-1 to Oostende who featured Joseph Akpala for 19 minutes.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s Start At Leicester Stymied By His Sense Of Timing
By Richard Jolly, Follow @uMAXitFootball

The finish was scrappy, the ball poked over the line from about a yard. The foul that preceded it went unpunished. It won’t be goal of the season. It won’t even be Shinji Okazaki’s goal of the season. Or, for that matter, his goal of the week.

Because the Japanese international’s strike against Liverpool on Saturday was his second in four days and his fourth in six matches this campaign. It is the sort of return that is more associated with Kelechi Iheanacho. Okazaki, whose first 80 games for Leicester had yielded a mere 12 goals but a Premier League title winner’s medal and an appearance in the
Champions League quarter-finals, is the selfless worker turned strangely regular scorer.

In contrast, Iheanacho is yet to open his Leicester account. That is scarcely a criticism: while he averaged a league goal every 107 minutes for Manchester City, he has only spent 105 minutes on the pitch for his new club. They have come in the form of one start and three substitute appearances, almost exactly mirroring his ratio at the other City: he began 12 top-flight games and had 34 cameos.

His tales of two Cities may bear certain similarities. Iheanacho has a gift for being in the right place at the right time in the penalty area, but not in a broader context. His emergence at the Etihad Stadium hinted at a glorious future. Then Pep Guardiola, the scourge of the specialist finisher, arrived. There were times earlier this year when Iheanacho was not even on a bench shorn of strikers.

He decamped to Leicester in time to see Jamie Vardy rediscover the sharpness that deserted him in the first half of last season, Okazaki to score at, for him, an unprecedented rate, Leonardo Ulloa sign a new contract and Islam Slimani stay after speculation he would be sold.

Iheanacho’s unfortunate sense of timing seemed apparent from the off. He limped off 17 minutes into his friendly bow, in effect ending his chances of starting the season in the team. His competitive debut came as a substitute on the opening night at Arsenal. He entered the field with Leicester winning 3-2. They lost 4-3. Craig Shakespeare’s gamble of introducing a second striker backfired.

His lone start came against Huddersfield. If the notion, both behind his selection and his £25 million signing, was that Vardy could forage more on the flanks, leaving Iheanacho to occupy the penalty area, the theory was only tested for 69 minutes. Then the England international was reunited with Okazaki in a partnership whose chemistry is proven.

Three days later, Slimani and Okazaki scored against Liverpool. After a further four, Vardy and Okazaki did likewise. It illustrates the staying power of the sidekick supreme. Opponents and team-mates alike can testify to Okazaki’s tenacity. He has scrapped for his place after the arrivals of Slimani and Iheanacho in successive summers. Now £54 million of seemingly more prolific forwards look like replacements.

Such duties seem inescapable for Iheanacho. For the meantime, anyway, he looks destined to remain a super-sub, a man whose capacity to make an immediate impact and whose eye for goal – and his 12 in the Premier League have come from just 55 attempts, giving him an impressive 22 percent chance conversion rate – renders him a perennial option but who struggles to displace those deemed to have more of an all-round game; that problem seems compounded when Okazaki, who appears his opposite, a player admired for everything bar his finishing touch, starts scoring.

But it taps into a wider issue at Leicester. They have been unable to wean themselves off their title-winning blueprint. The 4-4-1-1 formula remains their most effective. They have made 11 signings in the last 16 months and only Harry Maguire and Wilfred Ndidi have become first choices. Even then, asterisks have to be applied. Robert Huth has not been fit since Maguire’s arrival. Ndidi in effect filled the spot N’Golo Kante vacated six months earlier.

In short, none of Leicester’s greatest team have lost their place. Rightly so, perhaps, given the magnitude of their achievements. Yet if the signing of Iheanacho, like that of Slimani, seem designed to change that, Okazaki is dragging them back to their past, with typical willpower and atypical potency, while Iheanacho seems stuck in his, forever on the margins, never the main man.

Nigerian Exports: Young Guns Ekong, Awoniyi, Ajagun, Omoijuanfo & Umar On Target

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/21644Ekong.png

Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi, 20, was on target in Royal Excel Mouscron's 2-2 draw with Mechelen at Stade Le Canonnier on Saturday.
On 26 minutes, the Nigeria U23 international fired home a loose ball inside the penalty area after his header was blocked by a Mechelen defender and doubled his team's advantage in the process.
Awoniyi has now tallied four goals across all competitions and has shown his creativity and unselfishness by providing three assists in eight games.

Still in Belgium, ex-Flying Eagles skipper Abdul Ajagun netted his second goal in the Belgian First Division A but could not prevent Kortrijk from losing 2-1 to KV Oostende at Guldensporenstadion.

Elsewhere, William Troost-Ekong will be hoping to take his good form into national team duty, after scoring the solitary goal for Bursaspor in their 3-1 loss at Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig.
International teammate Mikel Agu produced the assist for Troost-Ekong's goal in the 39th minute.

2016 Rio Olympics star Aminu Umar somehow managed to open his goalscoring account for the season in Osmanlıspor's 3-0 rout of Kenneth Omeruo's Kasımpaşa, despite being challenged by the goalkeeper and a defender.

Over to the Norwegian Tippeligaen, Ohi Omoijuanfo continues to occupy top spot in the scoring charts with 17 goals, after scoring two second half goals as Stabaek beat Vålerenga 4-2 at Nadderud Stadion (Bærum).

(Photo Confirmation) Nigeria Handed Boost As Iwobi Is Back In Full Training At Arsenal

https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/31426Iwobi.png

Nigeria have been handed a fitness boost ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Uyo, with Alex Iwobi given a clean bill of health by Arsenal medics to resume full training.
The winger took part in full training with the Gunners first team at London Colney on Saturday morning, and was photographed contesting for the ball with his good pal Chuba Akpom.

Iwobi played for the team wearing white bibs at the training session, and the team also included Alexis Sanchez, Nacho Monreal, Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey.
Chuba Akpom, Theo Walcott, Per Mertesacker, Maitland-Niles and Jack Wilshere were in the team wearing black bibs.

And that is an indication that the Super Eagles star is in line to be named in the match day squad against Brighton & Hove at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

If Iwobi features against the Seagulls and comes through the game unscathed, then he will report for international duty with the Super Eagles as from Monday, October 2.

Rohr Shuns Red Hot Peter Eneji, Arrives Ghana To Run The Rule On Adeleye, Akas

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr will arrive Ghana later today to watch the WAFU Cup final game to be contested between Nigeria and Ghana on Sunday.

Nigeria will take on Ghana in what will be a rematch of their group meeting which Nigeria triumphed 2-0 to seal passage to the semi-final, where they defeated 10 man Benin Republic to book their spot in the final.

Rohr has received positive reviews about some players in the team, and want to watch them at close quarters before deciding on their inclusion in his squad for the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers against Zambia next month.

The duo of Olamilekan Adeleye and Chima Akas are top of the manager’s priority list as their position of central defence and left full back are two areas where the manager is still searching for options.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah stopper Adeleye has caught the eye with his faultless display for the back side that is yet to concede a goal at the tournament, he has excelled in tandem with either Emmanuel Ariwachukwu or Stephen Eze.

Akas isn’t new to the manager, but his performance at the Championship has caught the attention of the coach, who has reportedly received glowing remarks about his game.

However, the team forward Peter Moses Eneji who has impressed mightily playing from the left or right flank isn’t on the list of potential call ups for the Zambia game.

Sources close to the coach revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com, that the coach has options in in midfield and attack, hence is mostly concern about strengthening his options in defence.

With due respect Rohr needs the experienced gadgets right now to get the sole ticket of the world cup from the group of death. He does not need a second gadget to do this because at this level if a tool is underrated it will bypass the expertise that is at our disposal. These home based players should take their time to polish their performance at the level they are now and wait for the right time. The world cup is for the men and not boys.

A good game by all standards even the game could have been worn if the chances were converted squarely. The intensity also dropped as well which allowed the Cameroonians to come at us.Three players stood out for me-Victor Moses,Leon Balogun and Ikechukwu Ezenwa. The key points in the game will surely be the penalty incident and the double save by the Nigerian goalie which kept out two substitute players that provided the bite to the attack.Echiejile was really a slow patch on the field and the midfield became porous after Mikel was sent off.All in all its just at least a point that is needed which the coach predicted when the draw was made.It will be settled in October but we should also be mindful as well not to be carried away so easily.Any of these teams in our group still stands an equal chance of qualifying for the world cup.

pls help solve the following:
1. find the equation of the curve with gradient 2x+3 and which pass through the point (2,6)

2. suppose y varies as the sum of two quantities, one of which varies directly as x and the other inversely with x. when x =2, y = 7. find the relationship between x and y
Are you sure the second question is comprehensively asked extremely well?If yes then the repeated use of the variable x is a suspect because there will be two different constants unless you want to expect the person to use the same constant for the variable x twice or otherwise. The question is a partial or part variation question though and it has to be properly looked into very well.If the question is correct then the two forms will be y=kx and y=k/x of which if you add both of them together you will have y=kx+k/x if that's what you expect though and substituting the values of x and y into that equation it will result to y=(14x^2+14)/5x.But if we solve it with two different constants as against the same constants then it will be a different ball game.
For the first question, the gradient is already the derivative of x which implies that it will be integrated with respect to x and it will be y=x^2+3x+c.On substituting this to x=2 and y=6 the value of c will be gotten as -4 which will be inputed into the function gotten so that at the end of the day the equation of the curve will be y=x^2+3x-4.

Victor Moses will probably take this one but take nothing away from Wilfred Ndidi who was the silent worker in the midfield and played a typical Toni Kroos look alike Real Madrid brand and also Odion Ighalo who was terrorising the defense until he was substituted.
