AfonjaBoston: I would have called you a hillbilly but fortunately you are not white.
You seem to be the one with the problem. Amn't telling you to be a "wannabe" but if you need things done and want to blend into your new community you have to debug yourself of that "African booty scratcher" mentality act sophisticated, show some swag (not sagging pants lol) remove that low self esteem that is holding you down because of your color or new environment.
Don't be a noreos or white people worshipper and be smart (brain and pocket wise)
You will not only be loved by Caucasians but you will also knack them wella to an extent some blacks will start to beef you.
Naso!! .. The bolded is the part I like.. |

imperiouxx: If I'm correct you're still in your first year, wait till later. It's usual to experience this but after everyone had known their standing and values in the class, then the intimacy becomes better. On your own part, try socialize and be open to everyone in your class. Don't be a walk over and see how much they will cherish you.
Imagine two Asian girls in my class came to my house one saturday to cook for me during our second year in grad school. One of them later came back anotger time..... just for visiting Would they ever do that in our first year? Not even the Asians that only follow each other or the whites. Just for visiting abi? issokay |

iekene: Wow Too Many bullets flying around here.
Anyway, I have been in the US for a Month Now. Its been an experience. The US is really a Good place to study in. I have never loved education the way i love it now. As in I love going to class. Professors are down to earth and you know they are more than willing to help you. Lecturers in Nigeria place themselves as God over students and most times you are even scared to ask question in class or even go to their office to get clarifications on what you were taught or a section of their handouts you don't understand, more often they don't understand fully what they teach. In the US, Professors have walk in office hours for student so in case you don't understand something clearly they are willing to explain, they even give you their email and phone Number. Classes start exactly when they are supposed to, I have never seen a professor come late to class, you are informed well ahead of time if they wont be coming for a particular class so you can plan your schedule properly.
Most times i just feel bad for Nigeria, there even a whole lot of professors who claim to have studied in the US and still return home and do the direct opposite of what they experienced in the US. I pray things change and when "YOU" studying in the US finally return home and probably get a lecturing job, you practice the same standard of education with which you got while in the states.
God Bless Nigeria EXACTLY!!!... |

LagosismyHome: I used amazon in my time but never new ...always bought used book. Kept it very well for that semester and sold it back used next semester.... in some cases i sold it for same or slightly higher than i got it...however in the ones that a new edition came out between that semester it crashed or made the version i bought unsellable so had one or two i couldnt sell Thanks dear.. I was able to get one from the school library which I'd return on the 8th of January and I got another downloadable one from one of the sites femi gave here. I'm vigorously searching for the third one and how to get it at a cheaper rate. Thanks all, femi312, slimmy2005, imperiouxx |

femi312: check http://www.valorebooks.com/, they always have cheaper books. Also you don't really need to buy if the textbook wont be that useful after your program, you can always borrow textbooks in your school Library for the whole semester. Alternatively, ask colleagues who have gone through the class to lend you theirs for the semester or download online at http://gen.lib.rus.ec if you don't find it there, you cant find it anywhere except there is a miracle. Thank bro.. This particular textbook is out of the school library. And I have not seen other senior colleagues who took this course, this makes it hard mheen!. I will look up to the link above.. Thanks brother.. |

Sorry for the late travel transcript.. 10th of August
My travel experience was just exactly like others who took Air maroc ~ horrible food, long hours layover and sort of. Though I ate those food as I got no choice. The long layover wasn't boring as i asked one of the officials at cassablanca the password for the wifi and I kept buzzing.. We departed for New York exactly 10pm (Naija time) and arrived 2am(US time).. Nothing much at the POE, I was only asked 2 questions by the beautiful CBP lady after submitting my declaration form & i20
CBP: where are you coming from Me: Nigeria CBP: what course will you be studying? Me: Geosciences
She stamped my passport and I went to claim my luggages.. I was scared my egusi, ogbono, suya sauce(which I brought for someone), garri, beans, maggi with chicken flavor and other stuffs would have been trashed cos of the weyrey I did for those naija custom who wanted to collect 2k for one nonsense NAQS tag & certificate, BUT everything was intact. I waited till 6am for the NYairporter to take a shuttle from JFK to LaGuardia (Thanks to Lagosismyhome & electronic for this info). Got to LaGuardia, checked-in my luggages with American Airline from NY to Atlanta, had a 2hours stop at Philadelphia (very beautiful local airport). Got to Jackson-Hartsfield Airport by 6pm.
NB. If you plan to fly AA within the US, you will pay for luggages(one bag goes for $25 while two for $60). What I did was, I checked in only one big bag and I took the other small bag inside the fit-in cabinet on the plane. I only paid $25.. I got this OT from someone's travel transcript on this forum( I cant remember his moniker). Thanks bro for saving me some money.. |
