Properties / Ultimate Guide To Avoid Concrete Cancer By Waterproofing Rightly by ProjSynergies: 2:01pm On Jun 17
The Ultimate Guide to Waterproofing Concrete House Roofs

Concrete roofs have been an integral part of modern architecture for decades, have now more than being used these day to suit contemporary urban designs. Although they are typically seen as rooftops for commercial buildings, with changes to styles and architecture for residential buildings, homes are now also being constructed using this roofing method, with concrete slabs also starting to become popular in residential home structures. Even though concrete has been chosen as a superior material for both housing and commercial structures, it doesn’t mean that it is not susceptible to damage from the elements. Concrete no matter how fine is porous, except with the application of special materials in form of additives to the concrete or some top protective layed membrane.

Waterproofing is one way you can help avoid damage from occurring earlier than anticipated and will inevitably help your concrete roof to last a lot longer. Adding waterproofing to your roof is a great way to protect your building and is well worth the investment.

Take measures to prevent concrete cancer
Concrete cancer can be devastating, but what causes it? The term itself is a bit of a catch all for a variety of problems associated with concrete embedded with steel.

During construction, concrete is reinforced with steel bars or, in some cases, mesh. As a metal, steel can corrode after exposure to the elements, like water or air. Steel that is corroding is forced to expand. This expansion causes the surrounding concrete to crack and even break. Cracking exposes even more of the steel which leads to increased oxidation and further damage to the concrete.

The belief that steel rods won’t come in contact with water because they’re surrounded by concrete is simply wrong. It’s important to understand that concrete is porous, and can absorb water. Also, a failure to adequately waterproof can increase the likelihood of concrete cancer. That’s why it’s essential to take the proper precautions to prevent concrete cancer. In situations that demand remediation, there are also things you can do.

The phases of concrete cancer
According to the Australian Concrete Repair Association (ACRA) there are four stages of concrete cancer progression. In general terms, the cost to fix concrete cancers multiples by roughly five through each stage of the cancer’s progression in the concrete. This is sometimes referred to as the ‘Law of Fives’.

Design, construction and curing of concrete
Corrosion has initiated, but damage propagation hasn’t started.
Deterioration begins to propagate through the concrete.
Advanced propagation concrete cancer and significant damage.
By the fourth stage, a complete knock down of the structure might be the only solution. So remember to act early and if you think your premises has concrete cancer.

CONCRETE CANCER ASSESSMENT
In circumstances where concrete cancer is potentially affecting your structure, it’s best to call a professional. The first step in preventing or repairing concrete cancer is to have the structure analysed by a specialist. From here, recommendations can be made for remediation of the structure and ongoing prevention. In most cases, if you act early enough, the structure won’t need to be knocked down.

Choosing the proper sealer for your concrete
All exposed concrete should be protected with a sealer. A failure to use the right sealer, or to properly apply the sealer, increases the risk of concrete cancer to your structure, leading to expensive maintenance, repairs and replacements down the track. Sealers protect from moisture and prevent the build up of mould and fungus on the concrete.

HOW LONG SHOULD A SEALER LAST?
A good concrete sealer will last around five years before reapplication is required. Resealing should be completed as regularly scheduled maintenance works and prioritized to prevent damage.

HOW DOES CONCRETE SEALER WORK?
When waterproofing concrete, a topical sealer is applied to the surface of the concrete. The sealer is impermeable (provided it is applied correctly) and forms a waterproof membrane around the concrete, preventing moisture from entering the concrete. Topical sealers can be made from acrylic, epoxy and polyurethane based materials. Many are decorative in colour and style.

ARE THERE PERMANENT SEALERS?
Permanent sealers do exist, though they leave a matte finish and are not available in decorative colours. Permanent sealers work by filling all the tiny holes in the concrete. They are made from silicate, silanes or siliconate and are also referred to as penetrating concrete sealers.

Concrete flat roof construction and issues
It is now more common to see home designs which incorporate a flat roof in order to make it look both appealing and elegant in style. However, proper design of such a roof style is required in order to ensure rainwater is drained away from the roof as soon as possible. ‘Water-ponding’, or the stagnation of water due to rainfall on such roofs, is the leading cause of deterioration of concrete materials in roofing.

Variations in both temperature and moisture levels can lead to differential thermal movement. Combined with the potential acids left by rain that has evaporated, this can lead to the serious deterioration of what should be a stable, concrete roof.

Protecting your roof top
Concert rooftops are exposed to the elements 24/7, so it’s essential that they are properly designed and waterproofed to prevent leaks through the roof. Rooftop leaking can cause ongoing issues in the home. Beyond water damage to the interior, it can also affect electrical components, lighting and insulation. Ideally, you want preventative measures in place from the get-go, but if you think your concrete rooftop could be leaking or letting moisture in, it’s better to take action sooner rather than later.

Roof membrane systems
When looking at ways to waterproof a concrete roof, a waterproofing membrane is considered to be the most important aspect of a roofing system, as it is the key to keeping water out of the building. There are varying types of roof membrane systems on the market, so it’s important to understand the differences in order to choose the right system for you and your construction needs.

Pre-formed sheet membranes
Pre-formed sheet membranes are an excellent choice for waterproofing your roof and there are two versions available in the market. These membranes are supplied as a waterproof sheet and require them to be welded/joined together to form a watertight membrane.

You may find Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pre-formed sheet membranes on the market. They are well designed to deal with the pressures of high winds, excessive rainfall and other weather-related stresses including being UV Stable. Some products are also modified to be fire retardant, so they can also provide a good fire rating to help protect your building in case of an emergency

Properties / All About Admixtures by ProjSynergies: 9:38pm On Mar 11
Admixtures modify the properties of concrete or mortar to make them more suitable for the work at hand, or for economy, or for such other purposes as saving energy.
An admixture is a material other than water, aggregates, cementitious materials, and fiber reinforcement, used as an ingredient of a cementitious mixture to modify its freshly mixed, setting, or hardened properties and that is added to the batch before or during its mixing.
Admixtures are classed according to function. There are five distinct classes of chemical admixtures: air-entraining, water-reducing, retarding, accelerating, and plasticizers (superplasticizers). All other varieties of admixtures fall into the specialty category whose functions include corrosion inhibition, shrinkage reduction, alkali-silica reactivity reduction, workability enhancement, bonding, damp proofing, and coloring. Air-entraining admixtures, which are used to purposely place microscopic air bubbles into the concrete, are discussed more fully in Air-Entrained Concrete.
Water-reducing admixtures usually reduce the required water content for a concrete mixture by about 5 to 10 percent. Consequently, concrete containing a water-reducing admixture needs less water to reach a required slump than untreated concrete. The treated concrete can have a lower water-cement ratio. This usually indicates that a higher strength concrete can be produced without increasing the amount of cement. Recent advancements in admixture technology have led to the development of mid-range water reducers. These admixtures reduce water content by at least 8 percent and tend to be more stable over a wider range of temperatures. Mid-range water reducers provide more consistent setting times than standard water reducers.

Retarding admixtures, which slow the setting rate of concrete, are used to counteract the accelerating effect of hot weather on concrete setting. High temperatures often cause an increased rate of hardening which makes placing and finishing difficult. Retarders keep concrete workable during placement and delay the initial set of concrete. Most retarders also function as water reducers and may entrain some air in concrete.

Accelerating admixtures increase the rate of early strength development, reduce the time required for proper curing and protection, and speed up the start of finishing operations. Accelerating admixtures are especially useful for modifying the properties of concrete in cold weather.

Superplasticizers, also known as plasticizers or high-range water reducers (HRWR), reduce water content by 12 to 30 percent and can be added to concrete with a low-to-normal slump and water-cement ratio to make high-slump flowing concrete. Flowing concrete is a highly fluid but workable concrete that can be placed with little or no vibration or compaction. The effect of superplasticizers lasts only 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the brand and dosage rate, and is followed by a rapid loss in workability. As a result of the slump loss, superplasticizers are usually added to concrete at the jobsite.

Corrosion-inhibiting admixtures fall into the specialty admixture category and are used to slow corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete. Corrosion inhibitors can be used as a defensive strategy for concrete structures, such as marine facilities, highway bridges, and parking garages, that will be exposed to high concentrations of chloride. Other specialty admixtures include shrinkage-reducing admixtures and alkali-silica reactivity inhibitors. The shrinkage reducers are used to control drying shrinkage and minimize cracking, while ASR inhibitors control durability problems associated with alkali-silica reactivity.
Properties / Re: Why Waterproofing Your Rooftop Matters. by ProjSynergies: 8:00pm On Mar 11
Bituminous Felting is another widely used waterproofing material, it is a sheet of bitumen material applied to the surface by burning the contact with the roof or slab to soften it and causing it to adhere to the area being waterproofed.

Properties / Re: Why Waterproofing Your Rooftop Matters. by ProjSynergies: 7:52pm On Mar 11
Another waterproofing material is the Cementitious Membrane, this is a Special Cement which contains (A)powdered acrylic and (B) a solvent polymer in a keg. Usually called parts A & B, the two had to be mixed to get the solvent polymer (B) activate the acrylic component in (A) .
When this happens, the acrylic In A is dissolved by B, to form a waterproof film with the cement mixture.
On application on roofs-deck or concrete slabs, walls, copen or angles around the roof. It seals the area it is applied on, making it water tight or impregnable.

Properties / Re: Why Waterproofing Your Rooftop Matters. by ProjSynergies: 6:25pm On Mar 11
There different types of waterproofing materials, the images below shows Hydrocoat Acrylic Polymer. The acrylic polymer is applied across the surface like paint, with a roller to get an even spread.
The acrylic polymer (paint) contains granules that fill up holes and leakages on the roof while the polymer waterproof the expanse, thus forming a single sheet of impenetrable membrane on the roof, deck, balcony or wall that needs waterproofing.
It has Anti Ultra Violet Rays properties, that repel radiation from the sun. Thereby cooling off the space covered.
It is easy to apply.
Nearly no maintenance
Allows traffic on, because it has coarse granules that gives traction.
Very economical compared to other options of waterproofing.

Why Waterproofing Your Rooftop Matters.

In today's fast-paced world, ensuring the longevity and durability of your building is crucial. One of the most overlooked yet essential aspects of building maintenance is waterproofing the rooftop. Here's why it's vital:

Preventing Water Damage:
Water infiltration through the roof can lead to extensive damage to the structure, including rotting of wood, corrosion of metal, and deterioration of insulation. This can compromise the integrity of the building and lead to costly repairs.

Avoiding Mold and Mildew:
Moisture accumulation due to a leaking roof creates an ideal environment for mold and mildew growth. Not only can this affect the health of occupants, but it can also cause unpleasant odors and damage to interior finishes.

Preserving Interior Spaces:
A waterproofed roof protects the interior spaces of your building from water seepage, which can cause staining, peeling paint, and damage to ceilings and walls. This helps maintain a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for occupants.

Increasing Energy Efficiency:
Water intrusion can compromise the insulation properties of your building, leading to increased energy consumption for heating and cooling. By preventing leaks, waterproofing your roof can help maintain consistent indoor temperatures and reduce energy costs.

Extending Roof Lifespan:
Regular waterproofing maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of your roof by protecting it from the damaging effects of moisture, UV radiation, and weathering. This translates to long-term cost savings and reduced need for premature roof replacements.

Properties / The Need To Use Admitures In Concrete And Building by ProjSynergies: 2:28pm On Jul 26, 2022
Living Smart has been in the front burner of lifestyle, from Green Living to Smart Homes all point to Savings of money and energy is some way(Resources).

Piccardi Project Synergies is positioned in the forefront of injection of these new technology driven ideas into the Nigerian market space.

There's no way we'll talk Admitures without the history of Cements and Concrete, right from when engineers have been building, different types of adding some chemical based on each person's experience, has been a part of the building technology itself.

These days concrete is being used for various purposes to make it suitable for different conditions. Ordinary concrete may not give us the required quality performance such as durability, strength, workability and finishing quality of concrete. In such situations, concrete admixtures are used to modify or improve the ordinary concrete properties. i.e. mass concreting, concreting at narrow spaces, at remote places where water is not available easily, where formwork need to be removed early, concreting work near coastal area, etc.

Additives and Admitures have been part of building technology and industry,
With the new initiatives targeting energy conservation and the need for more sustainable infrastructure, your materials are evolving, and they will change how business is done at the construction jobsite in the future.

Case in point: concrete admixtures. The global concrete admixtures construction chemical market is projected to reach at $16.32 billion by 2022.

The primary reasons for this growth include new government initiatives and sustainable infrastructure opportunities in the construction industry, which will require the use of concrete admixtures.

Rapid growth of the construction industry, due to change in lifestyle patterns in emerging countries such as China, India, Brazil, Middle East, and Africa, and due to the rapid economic development and an increase in disposable income, has fueled the growth of the concrete admixtures market. Fast adoption of the latest manufacturing standards globally is expected to increase the penetration level of concrete admixtures.

Admixtures offer high workability, high compressive strength, durability, watertight, wear resistant, and high finish for the complex modern structures, which is expected to drive the growth of concrete admixture market.

A lack of awareness of the long-term benefits of concrete admixtures in contrast to the inexpensive substitutes is expected to hamper the growth of the market.

An increase in government initiatives regarding energy conservation and sustainable infrastructure will open new opportunities during the forecast period

However, note that admixture must not be used for the replacement of poor quality of ingredient or poor workmanship. Concrete Admixtures are used to improve the behaviour of concrete under various conditions and ensure the quality of concrete during mixing/transporting/placing/curing, both as a fresh concrete and hardened concrete.
Admixtures are primarily used for:

To reduce water content in concrete i.e. keep water cement ratio as less as possible.
To increase compressive strength and durability parameter of concrete.
To enhance the workability and give more transportation and placing time.
To impart specific property of concrete or to create favourable condition during placing.
To control the shrinkage cracks.
To achieve specific concrete properties more effectively.
To ensure quality of concrete during mixing, transporting, placing, and curing in adverse weather condition.
Modify the rate or capacity for bleeding.
Improve pumpability
Decrease permeability
Increase bond between existing and new concrete.
Use of admixtures in concrete successfully depends on the use of appropriate methods of concreting and batching. Most admixtures are supplied in ready-to-use liquid form and are added to the concrete at the plant or on the project site.

Polyurethane is the world’s most effective commercially-available insulation material
What is Polyurethane?
Polyurethane is a versatile plastic with unsurpassed insulation properties.

Unbeatable thermal insulation qualities
Polyurethane insulates against heat and cold better than any other insulation material available.

R-value is the figure used to measure thermal resistance in the building industry. It’s a measure of the rate of heat flow across the material in question.

Polyurethane has the highest R-value of any commercially-available insulation material. It keeps your building or contents warmer or cooler for longer.

Versatile and quick to install
Polyurethane can be cast or moulded into any shape. It can also be sprayed or poured to fill any cavity.

This makes installation quick, cost effective and minimally disruptive.

Holds its shape and does not deteriorate over time
Unlike other insulation materials, polyurethane won’t deteriorate over time. It forms a rigid shape, which won’t sag, buckle or pat down. These are all things, which are essential to effective insulation.

Immune against air, water and moisture
Water and moisture can seriously degrade the effectiveness of other types of insulation. Polyurethane is immune to water penetration and forms a seal against water and moisture when installed.

Polyurethane also forms a seamless barrier, which seals cracks and prevents loss of heat or cold to outside air. It also makes an excellent barrier to keep out pests and insects.

Excellent sound insulation
Polyurethane can reduce noise levels by up to 75%. You may be surprised how quiet your home or commercial building becomes once polyurethane insulation is installed.

Business / How Ikoyi 21 Storey Building Could Have Been Saved By Carbon Wrapping by ProjSynergies: 6:59pm On Nov 07, 2021
In the last few decades, there have been few cases of progressive collapse of buildings that were initiated by local failure. Recently design to prevent the progressive collapse of buildings has been engaged in the civil engineering community. Project Synergies presents a new approach (carbon wrapping) to prevent the progressive collapse of reinforced concrete buildings resulted from the potential failure of a column. With this approach, pillars and columns are wrapped with carbon synthetic fabrics, the pillars and columns are coated with adhesive base for reception of the carbon fiber wrap.
Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) can provide continuity in reinforced concrete beams and thereby reduce the likelihood of progressive collapse if a supporting column were lost due to extreme loading (blast or impact). Seven half-scale specimens representing two spans of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame with a center supporting column removed were tested The capacity of vulnerable RC building beams with discontinuous reinforcing steel were evaluated and compared with beams using CFRP to provide continuity, and with beams designed with continuous reinforcing steel. It was found that CFRP is capable of providing sufficient continuity to withstand the loss of a supporting column through either catenary (or cable) action, which reduces material usage, or flexural action, which reduces deflections. Furthermore, beams with continuous reinforcement may not be able to withstand the loss of a center-supporting column due to limited rotational ductility of the beam.
The process strengthen the pillars and columns several times more that its
CFRP braced frame is efficient in absorbing the loss of a first floor column and preventing progressive collapse of the building.

Protect your projects from degradation and failure due to corrosion, using carbon wrapping.
Concrete is not Impervious, its actually just tolerant to water passage for a period of time. The water still gets to penetrate it and cause the metal reinforcement to rust, carbon wrapping is a form of waterproofing and it actually makes your concrete work many time stronger

Business / Strengthen Concrete With Carbon Fiber Against Degradation by ProjSynergies: 9:25pm On Jul 02, 2021
Compared with traditional methods, the reinforcement technology of carbon-wrapped columns has the least interference to structural members.
Effective use of carbon fiber reinforced concrete or polymers can significantly increase the life of the structure and minimize maintenance requirements. The columns wrapped in carbon fiber are corrosion resistant, so they are used for corrosion control and repair of reinforced concrete structures. Carbon fiber reinforced concrete and carbon wrapped columns are also widely used to strengthen concrete structures.

Carbon wrap for column

Application of carbon wrap for column

When building a floor higher than a stilt or adding a floor above the first floor/bungalow, reinforcement columns are necessary to be able to bear the weight of the new structure. Carbon fiber cloth wrapped foundation columns is the most mature technology for strengthening concrete structures and building high-rise buildings

After the slab is poured, if the column fails, then implement a carbon fiber wrapping system to repair and achieve the expected strength

In places experiencing seismic activity or earthquakes, carbon fiber wrap columns are the key to seismic reinforcement of concrete structures

Turning residential properties into commercial properties, the changed load pattern now falls on the structure, making it necessary to strengthen the structure to maintain the new and increased capacity. Here, carbon fiber wrapping column is also an effective technology

Carbon fiber is most commonly used to reinforce industrial structures, subject to heavy loads and mechanical vibrations

In areas with extreme climatic conditions or high humidity, the structure is strengthened and the damage of environmental factors can be reduced, and carbon fiber reinforced columns can be well developed.

Similarly, in the case of structural repair, or when deflection occurs in the structure, when the column begins to sag, or when repairing a defective structure, carbon fiber reinforced columns are the most popular adjustment and reinforcement system.

Adverts / Advantage Of Container Buildings by ProjSynergies: 7:27pm On Jun 23, 2021
BENEFITS OF CONTAINER HOMES
Container homes can be an excellent alternative to traditional housing for a number of reasons. If you are struggling to find affordable housing, are interested in taking the plunge into tiny house living, or you are needing a flexible housing option, container living may be the solution you are looking for!

After the CoronaVirus pandemic of 2020 and still with us, the way we live and do business has vastly been affected. Both with work ethics and prices of building materials and importation of goods for building.
Homes made from shipping containers are growing in popularity and come with some amazing benefits that may not be afforded through a conventional housing situation.
INEXPENSIVE
While you may not think you can afford to own anything and will always be renting, building a house from shipping containers may be much more affordable than you ever imagined! You can find 20-foot shipping containers for sale run from about 600,000 to 800,000 Naira and a 40-foot container can cost up to 1.2m Naira. Once you have your shipping container purchased, Piccardi can source. The rest of the cost is determined by the finishes you choose for the interior.

At PICCARDI Homes our finished shipping container homes typically start around 2.5m Naira but with complete freedom on the interior design and finishes you can end up with an affordable and cheap tiny house or we have also completed luxury container homes.

STRONG
Shipping containers are inherently strong, when compared with concrete degradation on conventional houses. They are manufactured to be tough and durable. Shipping containers are designed to carry cargo though extreme weather both on land and at sea. At sea they may be subjected to 160 kph winds or 50-meter waves, there’s a good chance if the container can survive that, then it will be ok through any storms your home might endure!

This durability is decreased as steel is removed for doors and windows. There is a balancing act in the design between adding glass windows and doors while still maintaining the highest structural integrity possible. You can also find shipping container home plans that allow you to position windows and doors behind the original shipping container doors. This allows you to keep the original structural integrity and durability that might have drawn you to a container house. With this type of designs by PICCARDI, you also retain the ability to lock the original doors when you leave the home, which is an appealing aspect if this is going to be a secondary home that will be vacant from time to time.

Even without bolting the shipping containers down they can withstand high winds and storms. Unsecured and standing alone, they can handle winds of up to 160 kph. The safety and security of the container home is amplified further when you fasten the home to a foundation, properly secured they can take wind speeds of up to 175 mph. So, if you live in an area with extreme weather, such as hurricanes or tornadoes, you can rest assured that your container home is built to withstand the storm.

Pest Proof
PEST PROOF
Because the main building material on a converted shipping container is the steel of the container they are highly resistant to bugs and pests.

For example, even if you have wood floors or clad the exterior of your shipping container house, because the internal frame of the building is made from steel there is less to worry about with termites. Termites could damage the exterior siding or any interior finishes, but they would not be able to damage the structural integrity of your home, like that can do with a home built with conventional methods.

FREEDOM
There are a number of different ways that storage container homes provide freedom. The trend has caught up with expression of green living and urban lifestyles of the upwardly mobile youth, constrained with both space and finance.

Financial Freedom: What would your life look like if you didn’t have a mortgage, or even a rent payment? With the lower price point capability of container homes you might have the financial freedom to purchase a home, something that you might not have thought possible with a traditional home. The lower price also provides the opportunity to be mortgage free much quicker than possible with the higher price tag that comes with a conventional house and mortgage. When you’re mortgage free you have the flexibility to truly live the life you want to live, not focus on paying bills.
Physical Freedom: Just as a tiny house on wheels is mobile, so is a container home! It takes a bit more logistical legwork to make it happen, but you can move your shipping container home all around the country, and even the world! As long as you have a plot of land and hookups for utilities you have a place to put your home!

EFFICIENT & ECO FRIENDLY
Over the past decade people have begun looking for more ways to reduce their carbon footprint and recycle and reuse items whenever possible. Shipping container homes provide an excellent opportunity to meet both of these goals with your housing choice.

With proper insulation shipping container homes can be incredibly energy efficient and handle both hot summers and cold and windy winters. As with many tiny home designs, a container house can be incredibly energy efficient, due to their small size. High value insulation can make it easy to heat or cool the small space and many owners opt for a solar energy option, which can further reduce the monthly cost of utilities.

Energy efficiency is achieved through reducing energy loads and utilizing systems and appliances that are the correct size to meet those reduced loads. Through the very size of a shipping container home it is much easier to utilize smaller appliances. Energy efficiently is one area where bigger is not better!

If you find used shipping containers for sale to build your container home, with each 40-foot container you are repurposing 2,500 kg of steel. The use of steel shipping containers also reduces or eliminates the use of many other building materials, which can be harmful for the environment.

QUICK BUILD TIME
Homes made from shipping containers can be built and completed very quickly, which can be a huge benefit and reason to choose a container home. You could potentially have a finished shipping container home within 8 weeks! Building a traditional home can take up to 4-6 months. If you are looking for a housing solution quicker than that, container living may be the answer you are looking for!

With a container home the exterior structure of the home is already built, the roof, walls, and ceiling are completed; all you have to add are the interior details, which can take a considerable amount of time off of the building process.

Container homes can also be built off-site. This decreases build time because there is no travel to and from the building site and all supplies and equipment are readily available and do not have to be shipped to the building site. This is especially beneficial if you are looking to build on a remote site. Off-site building for a remote location can not only mean that your home ready to go quicker, but it can reduce costs as transport of materials and equipment can be costly.
Ship Anywhere

SHIP ANYWHERE
Shipping containers are meant to be moved, this means that there already exists a worldwide system for transporting container houses across both land and sea. Once your home is completed you can basically have it moved anywhere in the country, or even the world!

If you have already dreamed about living in a remote location, or off-grid, a container home can make that happen! There are many locations that may not be accessible for a construction crew and all the equipment necessary to build a home. Through off-site building storage container houses can open up a number of locations you might not have thought possible to have a home!

With the capability of moving your home if you were in the position of relocating, instead of finding suitable housing, you only need to find a spot of land to put your container home on!

CUSTOMIZATION
When it comes to the interior finishes and customization of your container house, the possibilities are endless! At PICCARDI Homes we have container home plans available. These plans can be tweaked or changed to suit your personal needs. Or you can work with one of our designers to develop your own plan that meets your every need. Once you have decided on the size and layout of your container home you can begin to choose your interior and exterior finishes. We have a number of options available for each category.

Business / Do You Experience Wall Damping Due To Water Logging? You Can Finally Solve Thi! by ProjSynergies: 7:07pm On Jun 23, 2021
Does you walls dampen due to water logs? Finally you can solve this problem. Find out!
News Hub CreatorJun 21, 2021 7:23 PM

Many urban cities in Nigeria is filled with water logs or are surrounded by water bodies and this waters easily affect structures and buildings without a highrise in foundation soaking the walls around the building. These dampness has adverse effects on the integrity of the building but more importantly is the crusty effect and termite breeds found within these loose surfaces within the room

These Following methods under listed are generally used to prevent the defect caused by dampness in a structures and give ur living room, sitting room, shops and others a facelift so you won't need to cover that ugly space from visitors

1. Membrane Damp Proofing

This consists in providing layers of membrane of water repellant material between the source of dampness and the part of the structure adjacent to it. This type of layer is commonly known as damp proof course (DPC) and it may comprise of materials like bituminous felts, mastic, asphalt, plastic or polythene sheets, cement concrete, etc.

Depending upon the source of dampness, DPC may be provided horizontally or vertically in floors, walls, etc. Provision of DPC in basement is normally termed as tanking.

General principles to be observed while laying damp proof course are:

Each DPC should be placed in correct relation to other DPC so as to ensure complete and continuous barrier to the passage of water from floors, walls or roof.

2. Integral Damp Proofing

This consists in adding certain water proofing compounds with the concrete mix to increase its impermeability. Such compounds are available in market in powdered as well as in liquid form

Another form of compounds like alkaline silicates, aluminium sulfate, calcium chlorides, etc react chemically when mixed with concrete to produce water proof concrete.

Pudlo, Imperno, Siks, etc. are some of the many commercially made preparation of water proofing compounds commonly used. The quantity of water proofing compounds to be added to cement depends upon manufacturers’ recommendations.

In general, one kg of water proofing compound is added with one bag of cement to render the mortar or concrete waterproof.

3. Surface Treatment

As described earlier, the moisture finds its way through the pores of materials used in finishing. In order to check the entry of the moisture into the pores, they must be filled up.

Surface treatment consists in filling up the pores of the surfaces subjected to dampness. The use of water repellant metallic soaps such as calcium and aluminium oleates and stearates is such effective in protecting the building against the ravages of heavy rain. Bituminous solution, cement coating, transparent coatings, paints, varnishes fall under this category.

In addition to other surface treatment given to walls, the one economically used is lime cement plaster. The walls plastered with cement, lime and sand in proportion of 1:3:6 is found to serve the purpose of preventing dampness in wall due to rain effectively.

4. Guniting

This consists in depositing an impervious layer of rich cement mortar over the surface to be waterproofed. The operation is carried out by use of a machine known as cement gun.

The surface to be treated is first thoroughly cleaned of dirt, dust, grease or loose particles and wetted properly. Cement and sand (or fine aggregates) usually taken in proportion of 1:3 to 1:4 are then fed into the machine. This mixture is finally shot on the prepared surface under a pressure of 2 to 3 kg per square cm by holding the nozzle of the cement gun at the distance of 75 to 90 cm from the working surface.

The quantity of water in the mix can be controlled by means of regulating valve provided in the water supply hose attachment. Since the material is applied under pressure, it ensures dense compaction and better adhesion of the rich cement mortar and hence treated surface becomes waterproof

5. Cavity Wall Construction

This consists in shielding the main wall of the building by an outer skin wall leaving a cavity in between the two. The cavity prevents the moisture from traveling from the outer to the main wall.

Hope this will help?

Do you have a better idea on preventing wall dampnesso tou

Investment / Best Chandling and Crewing Network in Nigeria by ProjSynergies: 5:09am On Jun 05, 2019
The ship chandlery business was central to the existence and the social and political dynamics of ports and their waterfront areas, but for immigration protocols and inability to access all store requirements inland.

Ship chandling is a retail process that allows the in bound ships be delivered an inventory of supplies and products or equipment, as will be required by the ship for onward sailing, its known as ship's stores.

The distinguishing feature is the high level of service demanded and the short time required to fill and deliver their special orders. Because commercial ships discharge and turn around quickly, delay is expensive and the services of a dependable ship chandler are urgent.

Today's chandlers deal more in goods typical for fuel-powered commercial ships, such as oil tankers, container ships , and bulk carriers.

Atlantic Marine Synergies supply the crew's food, ship's maintenance supplies, cleaning compounds, rope, et cetera. The advantage of a ship's crew using a chandler is that they do not have to find stores in the town they have landed in, nor hold that local currency – assuming they are let out of the dock compound by the immigration authorities.

A ship chandler(Atlantic Marine Synergies) operates in a very unique way since catering is specifically tailored and focused more on that line of business of the vessel in question, and the supplies change from one vessel to another, because every vessel has its unique needs and requirements.
Because we tailor our services to specific details of the crew and vessel at Atlantic Marine Synergies, that allows us create a relationship which allows room for the good spirit and continuity of the business.
In Nigeria today, we have many vessels that come in to trade for business with several clients in mind based on their size and of products they require for.
Some of these vessels deals include but not limited to the following:
(1) Container vessels (RORO vessels)
(2) Oil tankers (in this category the crude tankers are also inclusive)
(3) Barges (either the self propelled or those that have to be pulled)
(4) Waste recovery vessels
(5) Cold room DNV containers
(6) Chemical tankers
(7) Fishing trawlers
(cool Bunkering vessels
(9) Other boats such as speed, banana boats etc
All aforementioned vessels, tanker, containers and other types of carriages would require the services of staffs that would operate manage and use them to render services.
Since all vessels including it staffs requires daily supplies like food and catering items, vegetables, bunker fuel, fresh water, toiletries to mention a few which enables the application of chandling services sets in.
Due to the nature of the profession, it so happens that each and every ship chandler is held in high esteem and regard.
An uncommon and lucrative area of the offshore industry with minimum number of players that invest hugely and play carefully with great effort and curate real income generation.
