Guys Pls I need Help.I cannot take my mind off Gradcafe. This one i'm seeing admits here and there. What can I do. Also I have noticed that my body and blood is always hot these days.
I have tried keeping off the internet but not way, I have tried yoga no way....wetin man go do now?
The anxiety is killing and even Grad coordinators are not helping matters. One of my Universities (LSU) said they have sent out initial offers, na there my mind sink. One prof that even agreed before is now saying she's not sure, that she has one kind yeye appointment somewhere...make she better reject the appointment o.(What comes to my mind is : " so na so this application fee just waste?"wink

Pls ooooo....guys tell me how you coped or how you are coping with the long wait.

Lets not keep quiet ooo.............one of my friends is used to saying....."ti nnkan ba n se e, Ke si ta ooooo".....I"if something dey do you shout out oooooo"...............I'm shouting out ooooo......
You are not alone bro. I am always eager to open every mail with the hope of seeing an admission/funding mail. The problem is not just securing admission but funding. Even as a PhD applicant, full funding is becoming harder to secure by the day so I can imagine how the most MSc applicants feel.

I received an early admission offer from University of Kansas in the third week of December so I guess my trepidation has been tempered a bit. What I am just waiting for is the funding mail. I was nominated for Engineering Dean Fellowship by my program. I am just waiting for the outcome. Once the result is out and I'm selected, I will accept the offer immediately. I'm not gonna wait for other schools. The long wait is wearing me out.

In another news, I just received an admission mail from Temple University over an hour ago. Good news of admission & funding waits us all!

Hi. Transcripts are processed by the Records Officers who are members of Non Academic Staff of the University (NASU) and so they are not affected by ASUU the strike. I'm speaking at least from my dealings with the University of Lagos. Best bet is to contact your institutions to confirm if transcripts processing is indeed affected by the strike.

Goodluck.
Thank you Masterforcell. I am making moves already to get in touch with them.

Compliment of the season friends!

Pls, I want to know if the ASUU strike affects processing of transcripts.

I was contacted by one of the schools I applied to submit my official transcripts in sealed envelopes from all post-secondary institutions attended.

I received my Bachelor's degree from FUTMinna and Master's from University of Ibadan.

Thanks in anticipation of a response.

EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by pronto543(m):
Good Morning friends,

I received my first admission decision mail this morning from Michigan Tech. It was a rejection embarassed embarassed. I applied for 2019 Fall intake session-an early application as the application deadline is February 2019.

Reason: "There currently is no advisor available in your specified area of interest". My application was marked "Completed" on November 10, 2018.

I'm awaiting decision from 5 other schools. USF is another school that has marked my application as completed since November 5th.

The 4 remaining schools require 3 referees. The third referee has failed to complete the online reference forms after several promises. I intend travelling to meet him next tomorrow. I wouldn't fold my hand and watch my dreams truncated.

My advice to everyone is to apply early and to many schools. We shall make it!

Hello friends,

Can any of our bosses already outside the shores of the country help me defray the application fee at a lower exchange rate. The exchange rate with GTB debit card is on the high side ~370 naira to $1.

The total of my application fees is $310. I'm applying to 5 schools. I've already initiated the online application about a month ago and uploaded all necessary docs. I should be ready to submit and pay application fees by next week once the review of my SOP is completed. Thanks in anticipation. I'm applying for Fall of 2019.

Thanks in anticipation.

Response time is very relative (it can take weeks to months) depending on various factors:
1. how fast your schools (your UG/G unis) attend to emails,
2. how fast they sort, prepare your transcript & send them to WES,
3. if you have anybody constantly/physically doing a follow-up for you
4. also bear in mind tips might exchange hands to get some things done
5. the best time to start is now & hopefully it goes well
if you attended a public trust me it will take long
Thanks for all the valid points raised. My UG and Grad Schools actually process and send transcript within 7 working days of receipt and payment of necessary fees. It could take longer if one is applying for the first time. Luckily enough for me, I have done so before so it shouldn't take much time for the transcripts to be dispatched.

The best time to apply is now as you rightly noted. Thanks once again.

I saw this on nairaland. I hope it helps to answer some of your questions pronto543
Thank you so dearly bolubej. You have succinctly answered the last question with the screenshot.

I finally received a response to the first question too from WES. I was told via email that both transcripts (Undergraduate and Master's) would be evaluated for 'one price'. I assume that means at the standard price of $205 for ICAP course-by-course evaluation.

I am left with the number 2 question. I want to know how long (months) it took WES to evaluate both Bachelor's and Master's credentials after receipt from awarding institutions.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by pronto543(m): 1:05am On Sep 05, 2018
Hi folks,

Please, I need to connect with anyone that has used the services of WES for transcript evaluation as well as contribution from esteemed members of this forum. There seem to be have been some changes; it seems WES now requires WAEC result to be sent along with university transcripts and certificates. The questions I have are:

Firstly, for applicants that have completed a Master's degree, will the evaluation fee be charged separately for each of Undergraduate and Master's documents evaluation.

Secondly, is there anyone here that graduated from FUT Minna and University of Ibadan that has done credentials evaluation with WES in here? I want to know how long the verification process took. WES claims they will have to send the credentials they receive back to the awarding institutions/universities to verify they are genuine. I am just wondering how long the entire process will take.

Thirdly, will the copy of certificate for each degree earned to be sent by the applicant to WES be sent via regular mail/courier or electronically via email?

Lastly, how does one go about obtaining WAEC certificate to be sent to WES? Is it at WAEC headquater or at the state capital one resides. I am just wondering if it will be WAEC that will send it or if the person requesting it can be given in sealed envelope to be sent to WES?

Please, don't mind my endless questions. I am worried by the difficulty of requesting all these credentials from Nigerian Institutions particularly the WAEC result. The cost of evaluation self ($205) is discouraging as well as other concomitant charges like delivery cost to recipients.

I eagerly await responses. Thank you guys.

Recommendations:

For prospective test takers, endeavour to review and practice all the questions and concepts in the Official Guide. In my opinion, the best test material for Verbal are Official Guides. Others are Magoosh videos for the SC and RC. Manhattan 5lb RC passages are very close to the topics you will likely come across in the RC on the test day.

For AWA, I recommend following the Kaplan template. Also, review the sample essays in the Official Guide to understand what the graders place emphasis on.

For the Quant's, there is no single book that can perfectly simulate ets questions in term of verisimilitude and difficulty. I believe ets are beginning to reinvent themselves. However, I would recommend Manhattan 5lb as it will help raise your level unlike Barrons or Kaplan that will give you a false sense of security. I was scoring in the range of 165-168 with Kaplan and Barrons. With Manhattan, my Quant's score was in the range of 163-165 after some months of intense practice. So I know what I'm saying when I say Manhattan will raise your level and awareness to avoiding trap answers. Magoosh videos are also good...I.watched the videos like 2-3 times over again.

Also, on the test date, use your scratch paper wisely. I mean solve systematically and neatly so that you can refer to a question in case you couldn't complete it or you need to review it. This strategy helped me on 2 questions which I had to come back to later on. I just carried on from where I stopped solving.

Finally, I would like to thank our patrons on this thread and everyone that has kept this thread alive. I must admit that I got all the prep materials I used from this group. For prospective test takers, you need to devote time and ferret out the materials. I come across this thread sometimes around May last year. On that fateful night while I laid on my bed worried about acing the GRE, I typed "how to score high on GRE" and eureka I came across this wonder and life changing group. Throughout that week, I was glues to my phone and PC reading all the comments from page one to the end. I downloaded.all the materials including the Magoosh videos (~1.2GB), Manhattan 8 series and 5lb book,Nova Bible and Official Guides and all other material I felt I needed. On my next trip to UI, I printed all the books costing me about 15k at that time since it is cheaper printing around campus. The books filled an A4 carton. In retrospect, I must say it was money well spent.

... when I reported scores, I saw 155 and 160. I already anticipated the former was Verbal and the latter Quant's. On a closer look, my guess was right.

I sent my score to these schools:

1. UMBC
2. NCSU
3. TEMPLE
4. NEU

The other 4 I plan to apply to are

1. Purdue/UMass Amherst
2. Michigan Tech (free application)
3. Colarado Mines
4. USF

Here is a summary of my profile:

B.Eng Agric & Bioresources Engr (4.06/5.00)-Best Graduating Student
M.Sc Environmental.Engr (5.4/7.0)
GRE: 315
AWA: N/A. I expect at least 4/6

Proposed Entry Term: 2019 Fall
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by pronto543(m):
Hello friends,

I am sorry I am just posting my GRE experience after a week. I have actually been on the road since then. Besides, on two occasions the anti-spam bot on Nairaland have banned me.I'll just summarize the whole stuff.

The test date was Monday, Aug 6th in JKK, Lagos - the same venue I wrote my TOEFL October last year. By 9:30, I was seated for the exam but niggling network issues prevented us from starting until around 11am. I was almost discombobulated since I was planning to travel back to Ilorin on that same day.

The AWA section was quite straightforward. I was surprised when I got the same question I was responding initially before the network issue for the Issue Task popped up the second time. The Argumentative Essay was a bit tough but I later spotted some flaws and fired on.

The pattern was VQVQ and V. In my opinion, the 2 Quant section were of the same difficulty level. I had to make like 2 guesses in the 1st Quant's. The 2nd Quant's was equally tough with some unfamiliar questions I never came across in all my preparation with Magoosh,Manhattan,Princeton Review and Official Guides. In short, I made like 3-4 guesses in the 2nd guesses. The 3rd Verbal section was very easy and I finished with some few minutes to spare. By the time I was completing it I was just eager to hit the "Report Scores" tab and be on the next bus heading home.

IMO, try to analyse the topics where you might have flunked and try to read up and understand those topics. Since there are 7 days left, my advise is to test new waters by practicing, practicing and practicing and learning new topics and tricks. Hopefully this should raise you to your targeted score of >320
Thank you for your suggestion. It is highly insightful. I am trying my best to improve by identifying my weak areas and hopefully hitting my target.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by pronto543(m): 8:54pm On Aug 01, 2018
Scholastica16:
The diagnostics report always states questions of easy, medium and hard difficulty levels. Based on this, hard questions have a greater weight on the final weighted score. And the 2nd batch of Qs always have more harder questions than the first based on good first performances so that could skew the score favourably if one does well in them. For e.g, scoring 18 in the first and 18 in the second can give one a weighted score of 166-167 in the Q if the hard questions were part of the 18 raw scores got. Whereas someone else can get 20 and 16 (2nd) and get a scaled score of 163-165 because they got only one of the hard questions and flunked the remainder 4. It is a function of getting those difficult questions right summarily.

As per your preparations, you are doing well. Just forget the aspects you always get right and solve more questions related to the areas you seem to make mistakes in. Some people take inventory of their mistakes and if they see that they have missed more than one question on the said topic like "Probability", they go back to solve a ton of questions on the topic just to become more accurate.
Thank you so much for the in-depth analysis of GRE scoring. I will take the suggestions to heart and work on them.

Hello friends,

Here is a breakdown of my Powerprep II practice tests:

TEST 1
Verbal 1: 12/20
Verbal 2: 10/20
Quants 1: 19/20
Quants 2: 16/20

V: 153/170
Q: 163/170
COMBINED: 316/340

TEST 2
Verbal 1: 14/20
Verbal 2: 09/20
Quants 1: 18/20
Quants 2: 15/20

V: 157/170
Q: 161/170
COMBINED: 318/340

AVERAGE P1+P2 SCORES: V:155/160; Q:162/170

I need useful suggestions on how to hit 320+ on the D-day (August 6th). I was unable to hit 320 in the Practice Set in the Official set. My combined score was 313. I have reviewed the answers and would do the 2nd practice set tomorrow.

I observed the Powerprep algorithmn for inscrutable particularly for the Quants section. Haven scored 35/40 and 34/40 in the first and second tests respectively, I was expecting a scaled score in the range of 164-166. Please can someone suggest to me the reason for the lower scores on my quants.

From what I've read on Quora, the second Powerprep score mirrors the final score closely while the average of the 2 tests varies from the final scores by +/-3points. Although, these are just postulations as the final hurdle might involve some stroke of luck and confidence on the part of the test-taker.

I eagerly your suggestions and inputs folks!

You've got an excellent preparation timeline. For the Powerprep II, Internet Explorer is actually compatible with the Power Prep platform, so you might have to stick to that. I don't think it works with any other browser though I didn't try that. There's another option though, go to the directory of your Powerprep and look for the icon Launch.bat that should give direct access to the Powerprep platform.

Power Prep plus isn't free, unless you plan to buy it, you're better off asking for a PDF format of the question and answers. I think someone posted it the other time cc ponpon. Good luck with your prep.
Thank you so much. I have been able to finally practice with Powerprep after trying out the suggestions you guys gave me.

I was going through your profile and previous posts. Your GRE experience and scores are impressive. Were the questions on the real test far different from the Powerprep. I found the Verbal section of the Powerprep so involved and frustrating despite my effort as well as watching Magoosh videos severally. The Quant's seem to contain a lot of questions on Percentage,Fraction and Decimal. I was expecting a lot of Standard deviation, Probability. It wasn't particularly easy neither was it tough anyway.

Interestingly, you graduated from FUTMx. I graduated in 2012 (ABE).Congratulations on your admission and successful visa interview!

PowerPrep 2 is offline and free.
Whenever you run the application, you are expected to grant permission to allow it to run.
The permission notification is seen below the internet
Explorer webpage.
There's also a place below the webpage you'll see "continue".
Without granting access and clicking continue, the software wouldn't work.

I hope this helps.
Thank you so much. I had to grant it permission to run as you suggested and it worked.

I took a full-timed test and scored V:153, Q:163. Is there any way I can review the answers? I plan to take a full-timed with the Powerprep on a daily basis to become very familiar and comfortable with it.

Hi folks,

Please I need some clarification on how to use the PowerPrep II software. I have downloaded it but whenever I try to launch it,it opens in my Internet explorer which doesn't work well compared to my Mozilla. I thought Powerprep II is offline like the TOEFL sampler software. How do I make the software open on my Mozilla? Whenever I launch it on Explorer, it gets to the point where it shows the "Continue" button but fails to respond when I click on it.

Also, I need folks to clarify the difference between Powerprep II and Powerprep plus. My exam is on August 6th and I'm just confused about the whole stuff. I feel my preparation is adequate and I'm doing pretty well in other full test I've taken with Barron and Kaplan as well as diagnostic Tests from Princeton Review and Manhattan 5lb books. I have exhausted the Manhattan 5lb book, Official Guides (Verbal & Quants) and Princeton Review. I have watched all the Magoosh videos I downloaded from this forum. I always try to simulate the exam condition by constantly timing myself in all the practice exercises. I use 1.75 mins and 1.5 minutes for Quants and Verbal questions respectively. It has gretaly helped me and time is hardly an issue for me when I take full timed tests.

Please, I just need the clarification and working links to ets Powerprep II and Powerprep Plus if possible. I also need suggestions on other free online full test sites.
