Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have called for a review of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the scheme. The programme was established in 2012 to “coordinate efforts towards empowering corp members nationwide to become thriving entrepreneurs and value-adding employees after their service year.” Before the initiative became compulsory for corps members, there had been a growing concern among fresh graduates over the gradual disappearance of white collar jobs in the country. In response to the concern, the federal government introduced the vocational and entrepreneurship development programme to train corps members in cosmetology, construction, agro-allied, ICT, film and photography, power and energy, automobile, education, culture and tourism, among others. Despite the success stories recorded by some corp members through the NYSC SAED initiative, many corps members have tagged the initiative as a “scam” and “time-consuming” and called on the government to review its implementation. Chukwuyem Divine, a corps member in Abuja, describe NYSC SAED as a great initiative with poor implementation. “The idea of the NYSC SAED programme is great but the implementation is poor,” he stated in an interview with our reporter. “I will not blame my fellow corps members who called the initiative a scam due to so many irregularities I can attest to. I boycotted the training not because I am certain of white collar job after my youth service, but because of the clear exploitation, lack of professionalism of the trainers and the wrong timing,” Mr Chukwuyem said. “Most of our SAED lectures usually hold for three hours or more after intense morning parade when corps members must have been tired.” Another corps member in Edo State said he and some colleagues did not participate in the programme because they could not afford the fees they were told to pay. The corps member, David Ojumoola, said: “I was very disappointed when the coordinator sent me out because I could not afford the #1000 they asked us to pay outside the money the Federal Government set aside for the SAED training.” Another corps member in Edo State said he and some colleagues did not participate in the programme because they could not afford the fees they were told to pay. The corps member, David Ojumoola, said: “I was very disappointed when the coordinator sent me out because I could not afford the #1000 they asked us to pay outside the money the Federal Government set aside for the SAED training.” This reporter made several attempts to reach the spokesperson of the NYSC in Abuja, Adenike Adeyemi, for her comment for this story but she did not pick calls to her telephone or respond to text messages. On how to improve the programme, Mr Ojumoola urged the NYSC to set aside a day in the week for practical SAED classes, just as in the Community Development Service (CDS). On his part, Mr Chukwuyem called for a total review of the programme implementation so as to protect coming corp members against exploitation by administrators of the programme. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/331316-corp-members-call-for-review-of-nysc-skills-acquisition-programme.html |
error4040:Jeezzz... I hate plagiarism. What you are saying in essence is that the article is a plagiarized one despite it informative output? The OP should have at least referenced the actual source, it is inappropriate to steal another man/woman's intellectual property without proper reference or acknowledge. Anyways, thanks for sharing, @the OP, but don't forget to acknowledge next time. |

Hoodbilonia:There was a country indeed. |
Fhowe:I sincerely share you sentiments but my question is, where is the place of human sense of morality if we ascribe every defects to social decadence? |
Ladyhippolyta88:It has become the reality the society is trying to adjust to. It makes me sometimes wonder when we started getting things wrong in this country. |

The Advent of Yahoo-Yahoo: An Evidence of Social Decadence or Personal Immorality? - Adenekan Samson K. "Take away money from all the problems you think you have and tell me what is left to be worried about." - Anonymous. In recent time, the race to stardom and desirous longing for ephemeral things are on the rise among our youths, most especially on our campuses. This uprise posits question as to what extent many are willing to go to actualize this tempting feat. Is this longing a perpetual consequence of social decadence or an evidence of individual rotten personality? As a result of Nigeria sodomic social standing, many anomalies are normalized to satiate the imbalance fueled by economic downturn and political gluttony parading itself in our corridor of power since independence. Among this anomalies is "yahoo-yahoo" or better still "Chacherism". This is a Behind name for internet crimes committed by many with the hope of meeting the financial standard the society is setting for them. It has become the opium hustle and a course of study for many with desire for overnight success story. That was the story of yahoo-yahoo when human's desperation for sudden wealth was on a low. In the dawn of today, many youth wants to ride Benz while they ought to be on the bench. Many wants that first class treatment at those exotic clubs rather than paying first class attention to God and smart-work. This fast-pace ideology to making money is also eminent in the kind of songs been aired on our radio and television stations, this thereby perfume this ever raising social decadence called yahoo-yahoo. In the turgid struggle of fulfilling human wants and needs, the desperate youths started hiding under the presence of Yahoo-Yahoo to perfect their ritualists potentials. Under the guise of Nigeria socio-economic rigidity, they turned the country into a slaughter-slab where the lives of many young men and ladies are forcefully taken. They exchange the destinies of their love-ones for Range-Rovers and popping of expensive bottle of drinks from one club to another. They forget the fact that there have many things to gain outside those expensive designer wears they watch on celebrities. The advent of this anomaly called Yahoo-Yahoo and its advanced "Plus" form is a yardstick to measure where we are as a country (a society) and a bearing to judge our youths state of personal moral standard. Yes, the country is in a state of comatose and our leaders are evidence of failing backward, but what can we say of ourselves the citizens of this country. Are we (as individual) the solution to our social decadence or the problems? |

Here is the essay that helped Cassandra Hsiao pull of this truly incredible feat. In our house, English is not English. Not in the phonetic sense, like short a is for apple, but rather in the pronunciation – in our house, snake is snack. Words do not roll off our tongues correctly – yet I, who was pulled out of class to meet with language specialists, and my mother from Malaysia, who pronounces film as flim, understand each other perfectly. In our house, there is no difference between cast and cash, which was why at a church retreat, people made fun of me for “cashing out demons.” I did not realize the glaring difference between the two Englishes until my teacher corrected my pronunciations of hammock, ladle, and siphon. Classmates laughed because I pronounce accept as except, success as sussess. I was in the Creative Writing conservatory, and yet words failed me when I needed them most. Suddenly, understanding flower is flour wasn’t enough. I rejected the English that had never seemed broken before, a language that had raised me and taught me everything I knew. Everybody else’s parents spoke with accents smarting of Ph.D.s and university teaching positions. So why couldn’t mine? My mother spread her sunbaked hands and said, “This is where I came from,” spinning a tale with the English she had taught herself. When my mother moved from her village to a town in Malaysia, she had to learn a brand new language in middle school: English. In a time when humiliation was encouraged, my mother was defenseless against the cruel words spewing from the teacher, who criticized her paper in front of the class. When she began to cry, the class president stood up and said, “That’s enough.” “Be like that class president,” my mother said with tears in her eyes. The class president took her under her wing and patiently mended my mother’s strands of language. “She stood up for the weak and used her words to fight back.” We were both crying now. My mother asked me to teach her proper English so old white ladies at Target wouldn’t laugh at her pronunciation. It has not been easy. There is a measure of guilt when I sew her letters together. Long vowels, double consonants — I am still learning myself. Sometimes I let the brokenness slide to spare her pride but perhaps I have hurt her more to spare mine. As my mother’s vocabulary began to grow, I mended my own English. Through performing poetry in front of 3000 at my school’s Season Finale event, interviewing people from all walks of life, and writing stories for the stage, I stand against ignorance and become a voice for the homeless, the refugees, the ignored. With my words I fight against jeers pelted at an old Asian street performer on a New York subway. My mother’s eyes are reflected in underprivileged ESL children who have so many stories to tell but do not know how. I fill them with words as they take needle and thread to make a tapestry. In our house, there is beauty in the way we speak to each other. In our house, language is not broken but rather bursting with emotion. We have built a house out of words. There are friendly snakes in the cupboard and snacks in the tank. It is a crooked house. It is a little messy. But this is where we have made our home. bbc.co.uk |
SMH...Simple sentence some people cannot interpret correctly. I believe what the OP is driving at is that EFCC attempts to degrade the stance of ICPC in fighting corruption? Sorry to disappoint you, EFCC reference to ICPC as 'introvert' is simply to exonerate them and proclaim the body as silent achiever in comparison to the targeted cheap publicity that EFCC longs for. |
