CY09: Kegites club is a social-cultural club which was established 50 years ago in the the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University)...The club was formed by a group of students who felt the that their was so much colonial influence on our way of life...There was the need to appreciate our cultural values and heritage hence the need for an association to promote this cause...The founding founders noticed that almost everything we had had been colonized but one thing!...What is that you may ask, well that which our colonial masters couldn't colonise and will never be able to is the....Palmwine!...The club adopted the palmwine and it became a symbol of the club...Thats why you see in our meetings we drink palmwine.

The club is found only in approved higher institutions that run a four year programme or more...It is not a secret cult or affiliated to any cult,it is open to both Males and Females and all our activities are done in the open and non-members are allowed to watch as we entertain them.


Motto:
Palmwine, the Basis of African Unity and World Peace.


Mode of Communication:
The members of the club talk in slang and in codes...The language which we speak is known as Swahili (combination of various language and terms)...We also communicate with one another through signal by raising up the index finger (known as the "One Finger Salute"...The club has a unique and fascinating way of communicating with the populace (students and non-students alike) and this can only be decoded by members or sometimes by close associates of the members of the club. For instance, the word ‘therefore’ can be written as dia(3+1) and ‘rotate’, written as rot8. Certain words are peculiarly pluralized when Kegites write. For example there is nothing like ‘chiefs’ in comradium but chiefisis or chiefi6; opekes as opekesis or opeke6. The one-finger salute is the most precious feature of the Kegites’ club and it can only be exchanged between members of the club.


Here are some of our activities:
(i) to upholding African cultural heritage;

(ii) to share palmwine (making sure that whoever that could not afford to buy get at least, some to drink)

(iii) compete (real fun) between each other on who can resist intoxication from drinking most;

(iv) Entertaining the Public with our songs and musical instruments

(v) to relieve their minds of the stressful time that they have had at school studying and attending classes (they were all students) and the most important of all is:

(vi) to help one another especially, academically.



The following are standard Kegites rules and regulations:
* It is abominable to drink alcoholic while wearing the regalia.

* Any member who is found misbehaving as a result of alcohol within or outside our meeting place is excommunicated from the club

* There is zero tolerance for drugs. Members are also encouraged not to smoke.

* Any member who is found to be in any secret-cult is expelled from the club instantly

* A disobedient member receives four (4) warnings with the fifth (5th) leading to dekegation worldwide. Such member cannot be a member of any branch in any part of the world.

Comrados: Nonmembers of the club

Comrados-in-Embryo: Applicants that have not been initiated

Comrad: Student Member of the club

Chief: Head of the club

Holy Water: Palm Wine, the prominent natural drink of our fore-fathers.

Gyration: Meeting; always full of fun and jollification (vigor).
