Federal authorities have arrested a Texas husband and wife for allegedly forcing a 38-year-old Nigeria national to care for their five children over a two-year-period and never paying her, PEOPLE confirms. A statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation alleges that Chudy and Sandra Nsobundu, 56 and 50, respectively, were detained on Monday on charges of forced labor, withholding documents, conspiracy to harbor an illegal immigrant and visa fraud. Investigators contend the Nsobundus held the woman captive for two years and even seized her passport, preventing her from leaving the country. The couple allegedly abused the woman physically and verbally, forcing her to clean, cook, and care for their children from 5:30 a.m. until 1 a.m. The couple "regularly referred to the victim as 'the idiot,'" according to an FBI statement, and also told the woman "she could not watch television or even sit down during her work hours. She was also allegedly told to sleep on the floor and could not use warm water to bathe or wash her hair." • Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter. Authorities also claim "she was not allowed to eat fresh food and was only permitted the leftovers from the previous prepared meals," and that "if the victim even wanted some milk for her tea, she would have to actually strain the milk out of the children's cereal bowls." The woman mostly spent her days inside the Nsobundus' home and was allowed out only for short walks, investigators allege. The couple never made good on their promise to pay the woman $100 a month for her services, according to the FBI. If convicted of forced labor, the Nsobundus face up to 20 years in federal prison. Visa fraud carries a maximum penalty of 25 years while the withholding documents and harboring conspiracy charges carry a maximum five and 10 years, respectively. All of the charges could also result in a $250,000 in fines. It was unclear Wednesday whether the Chudy Nsobundu had legal representation. Joan Nwuli, Sandra Nsobundu's attorney, was unavailable for comment Wednesday. http://news.yahoo.com/texas-couple-accused-holding-nigerian-224701529.html

Analyst: World on Verge of U.S. Dollar Collapse One economist is predicting that U.S. dollar will soon be replaced by another monetary unit as the world’s reserve currency. Could this mean a U.S. dollar collapse is now inevitable? Famous Dutch economist and hedge fund manager, Willem Middelkoop, predicts that the renminbi will overtake the U.S. dollar to become the dominant world currency. (Source: “Gold – Willem Middelkoop,” YouTube, January 28, 2016.) In his latest interview, Middelkoop lays out China’s game plan for world domination. Middelkoop says that the Chinese have been pushing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to adopt a reserve currency other than the U.S. dollar. China has finally succeeded in getting its official currency included as part of the basket of SDR (special drawing rights) currencies. But Middelkoop says that this move is just the beginning. “They [the Chinese] are very long-term thinkers. And there’s one special date they are working towards and that’s 2049. You know why? That’s going to be the anniversary of the [Chinese] revolution,” reveals Middelkoop. The Dutch economist is better known for his book The Big Reset: Gold Wars and the Financial Endgame, in which he predicts a global economic shift that he refers to as the “reset.” Middelkoop says that to avoid an economic meltdown, world economies must restructure their national debts. In addition, he says the world must look for a monetary anchor other than the U.S. dollar; he hints at gold. Willem Middelkoop also brings our attention to how China and Russia are quietly amassing massive gold bullion reserves: “China understands there is a financial economic war fought by the U.S. against Russia, and now Russia and China are joining forces,” adds Middelkoop. Middelkoop mentions that China is non-confrontational, unlike Russia. The Chinese are interested in extending good relations with every trade partner. However, he points out that the growing nexus between the two powers should not go unheeded. According to Middelkoop, it will take China some time to dethrone the U.S. He reminds listeners that the U.S. had become a large economy back in the late 1800s, but it took 70 years or so for the U.S. dollar to become the world’s reserve currency. However, he adds that the Chinese may have already marked their calendars. “The Chinese always tell me that these are all the small steps towards our [China’s] broader plan of being in control, being in charge of the world, of having our own system around 2050,” concludes Willem Middelkoop. And that means a U.S. dollar collapse. http://www.profitconfidential.com/u-s-dollar/u-s-dollar-collapse-analyst-issues-dramatic-warning-for-the-u-s-dollar/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=socialnetwork

– NIS announces that six British citizens have been deported. – The service’s comptroller has warned that immigration criminality will not be tolerated. – Companies that flout migration laws will be forced to pay for tickets home. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deported 6 British citizens for violation of Nigeria’s immigration law. This was revealed to newsmen by the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. Martins Kure-Abeshi, in a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Interior. Abeshi said “I just arrived from abroad on Monday and met this case. “As I am talking, on Monday in the evening, the company that employed those expatriates, after my discussion with them, they are to be responsible for their air tickets. “As I am talking now, I am sure they have been flown out.” Abeshi warned that anybody who is living in Nigeria and has flouted the immigration laws will be convicted and deported regardless of their nationality. “When we conduct our operation and discover that someone who is not a Nigerian is living in this country illegally, he will be repatriated. That is on our own part, they have to go.” “There is another angle to it. If he is a worker, working in a company and we discover that he does not have papers to stay in this country, he has committed an offence against the state, the company that the expatriate is working will give us money, buy a ticket, or whatever is their responsibility,” he said. “Before anybody takes an appointment here as an expatriate, the organisation will write to immigration that they are taking immigration responsibility for that expatriate. “If that expatriate commits any offence against the company and they want to remove him, that company must provide ticket so that the person is removed from this country,” the NIS head said. https://www.naij.com/719347-nis-takes-action-british-people-nigeria.html

Olisa Metuh gave me 25million for PDP publicity, witness reveals – The witness, Abba Doro said they commissioned writers to write and be paid to promote the government – He said he gave EFCC the money when he realised it was part of the arms deal fund Abba Dabo, former special adviser on political matters to Namadi Sambo, the former vice president, has disclosed how Olisa Metuh paid him 25million for the purpose of publicity for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), The Cable reports. Dabo, who is the seventh witness to testify against Metuh, the spokesman of the PDP, said the money was given to him five days after the presidential nomination convention to fight criticisms against former president, Goodluck Jonathan in the traditional and social media. He said: “On December 16, 2014, Metuh paid N25m through Destra Investment Limited account into my personal account for purposes of publicity for the PDP. “When it became obvious that former president Goodluck Jonathan will run for office, government officials and party leaders started to meet to review the achievements of the government and prepare for the elections.” According to him, it was found out during the course of the meeting that the PDP was getting negative publicity. “On my part, we set up a media support group and registered it as ‘Media Support System’ to do media work for the party. We commissioned writers to write and be paid to promote the government. “We called it rapid response team, which was successful. It was its success that led to more meetings with Metuh. Social media was becoming more stringent in the criticism of the PDP,” the witness said. Dabo explained that they set up a team of facilitators and young IT enthusiasts to run a website called, ‘What’s up Naija’ which they could not register because the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) wanted it to be ‘What’s up Nigeria.’ He stated that the money was returned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when he realised it was part of the $2.1billion funds meant for arms purchase but was allegedly diverted for other purposes by Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA). “Because the money was linked to the controversial arms deal, I decided to return it. On my own accord, I decided the best way out of this rigmarole was to pay back the money. I paid it back to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),” Dabo said. Metuh is facing a seven-count charge of money laundering. The anti-graft agency is accusing Metuh of collecting the sum of N400m from the former national security adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, who is at the centre of the arms deal scam. Since the commencement of his trials, the prosecution led by Sylvanus Tahir has produced six witnesses who have all testified about the roles they played in the alleged transfer of funds from the former NSA to Destra Investiments Limited, a company owned by the embattled PDP spokesman. Metuh who met his bail condition was released in the evening of Thursday, January 28 after weeks of detention. https://www.naij.com/719302-arms-deal-saga-gave-efcc-n25m-metuh-former-vp-sambos-aide-confesses.html |

A source close to Badeh said he received the invitation from the anti-graft agency on Monday, The Nation reports. According to the source, the former CDS is ready for the EFCC interrogation because he has nothing to hide. https://www.naij.com/717751-2-1b-arms-deals-saga-efcc-goes-former-cds-badeh-invites.html A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “We have invited Badeh, we expect him to come and make clarifications on procurement of equipment during his tenure. “He has advantage because he was Chief of Air Staff before his elevation to the CDS. In many cases, the procured items failed to meet the purposes they were procured for, especially the counter insurgency efforts in the North East.” The source added that Badeh may also be questioned on the spending of N330.75million on purchase of uniforms for the Armed Forces. The source noted that Badeh’s coming will set the stage for interaction with other top military officers. Badeh and other army officers have been indicted in the $2.1 billion arms scam and they will be interrogated in batches. Buhari had directed the EFCC to carry out further investigations into the activities of officers linked to the arms deal scam. If he honours the EFCC’s invitation, Badeh will become the fourth to be quizzed among the 17 former and serving military officers recommended for investigation. Those who have been detained are former national security adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki, who is at the centre of the arms deal scam, Col. N. – Pat Utomi blames President Muhammadu Buhari – The Professor criticized the president for saying he would not devalue the Naira – He says the country is paying for sins it committed by not saving Professor Pat Utomi has lashed at President Muhammadu Buhari for the statement he made in Kenya that he would not devalue the Naira. The falling price of crude oil in the international market has weakened the Naira against the dollar thereby affecting the economy of the country. The president who was in Kenya for three days said he was yet to be persuaded that Nigeria and its people will receive any noticeable benefit from an official devaluation of the currency. Utomi however claimed the president has no knowledge of the economy and should allow those who do speak on the matter. Utomi spoke exclusively to naij.com on Monday at the inauguration conference of the Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy on Monday, February 1. Asked about the current economic situation, Utomi said Nigeria was paying for its sin as the country failed to do what it should have done. READ ALSO: Why I refused to devalue Naira – Buhari “The economic situation is a very big issue and there are many problems that have converged. We are just paying for our sins. We are paying for not having done what we should have done. Who gets a windfall for a very long time? Oil is a very volatile commodity…we had a big boom but we squandered everything.” The professor said the country should have saved when it had surplus but it didn’t. “We need a disciplined and focused political leadership at this time. Unfortunately, I don’t think we are quite there.” He said the president’s statement in Kenya that he would not devalue the Naira has already created more problem for Nigeria. “Somebody like him should not be talking about such things. Keep quiet…he has created a major problem for the Nigerian economy by that statement. The president’s economic policies have been criticised lately with the Financial Times UK describing them as the‘height of foolishness’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIxHPCnB8vw https://www.naij.com/718162-exclusive-keep-quiet-know-nothing-economy-pat-utomi-criticizes-buhari-video.html |

– President Buhari addressed the European Union Parliament plenary session today – He hailed ex-president Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat – Restates commitment to rescuing missing Chibok girls and reuniting them with parents President Muhammadu Buhari has yet again he hailed the efforts of his predecessor, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, to ensure Nigeria remains a peaceful nation after conceding defeat in the last presidential election. Speaking today Wednesday, February 3, 2016, during the European Union parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, France, President Buhari noted that Jonathan made history by conceding defeat after the March 28 election. Addressing the plenary, the retired army General noted that Jonathan did what no Nigerian leader had ever done since in the history of the country. He said: “Democracy has come to Nigeria to stay, sooner than we expected, Nigeria will be regarded as one of the strongest in Africa,” adding that strife may arise in the process, but it is not beyond what can be contained. Speaking on the drama of the last presidential election, where Elder Godsday Orubebe created a scene at the collation centre, Buhari averred that the maturity which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials led by Professor Attahiru Jega displayed helped Nigeria avert a major crisis. President Buhari who noted that Nigeria’s problems are poverty, disease and technological backwardness, reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the missing Chibok secondary school girls are returned and reunited with their parents. “The government will not rest until the girls are rescued alive and reunited to their parents,” Buhari noted. “We have reorganised the Nigerian Armed Forces and repositioned them to deal decisively with the Boko Haram terrorists. “Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states local government areas where the insurgents once dominated have been gradually recaptured,” President Buhari added, adding that the activities of Boko Haram have been restricted to Sambisa Forest. In a related development, Festus Ogun, a young Nigerian lawyer and blogger, says the President Buhari-led government could improve on some of its strategies to finally and ultimately wipe out Boko Haram, not technically but in actuality. The erstwhile administration has tried its best in combating the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, to soil level but all “efforts” were in futility. https://www.naij.com/717985-buhari-addresses-european-union-parliament-read-what-he-said-about-jonathan.html?source=notification
