WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

The Watcher
Interesting contract signing between Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch. And not for all the right reasons.
Trish seemed a bit off on the mic tonight. Or, at least a far cry from her promo a few weeks ago and her performance a couple weeks ago. She stumbled on a few words and didn’t bring the emotion she usually does. But I liked her theory of the case: This is her first contract signing while Becky knows many contract signings only because of the walls Trish tore down.
Becky’s retorts might sting more if they didn’t beat around the bush. Trish demanding gratitude for paving the way demands a little interrogation. Trish, and women in her era, did a lot of things WWE never asked of someone like Becky. Thankfully.
Becky hinted at that, saying Trish did things that gives Becky nightmares and referencing that time a creepy old man made her bark like a dog on television. And no, But there’s something there that WWE can’t really touch because they like to rewrite their past, a lot of that stuff involved the Chairman, and they’re a family company now.
That’s unfortunate because a compelling narrative exist between the current woman in charge and the former woman in charge. Both took different routes during very different times in WWE. Interrogating Trish’s past, however, means examining WWE’s past. It also means exploring how today’s women feel about the things yesterday’s women did. How do they feel about the eye candy, the breast implants, the bra & panty matches, the lack of match time, etc.
And how does Trish feel about that? Her character wants her props but also clearly resents the fact Becky avoids all the sex over substance of the Attitude era. That’s why, as she said, it’s a big deal she finally gets a contract signing. But it’s also sad and indicative of her time on top. WWE often shows us her highlights in the ring with Lita but they don’t show her managing a tag team named T&A. They don’t show the aforementioned story with the creepy old man, his wife, and his daughter. Or any other time WWE treated her as a sexual fantasy instead of a professional wrestler.
When she said she came into the company on day one as a star and didn’t have to break her nose to achieve that status, she’s doing a disservice to those of us who like context. I don’t know how Trish Stratus feels about those things when the cameras are off, but I want to know how her character feels.
Becky and Trish detailing those things paints a fuller picture for the story and for the audience. While obviously a chunk of the audience remembers, that’s still at least 20 years ago. That’s a long time. Any story about legacy demands the storyteller catch the audience up so they know what the characters know. Or at least know most of it.
I didn’t expect the story to go here but now that they are, maybe I’m expecting too much. Wrestling companies, especially this one, don’t usually criticize their history. Sure, they get flippant about some things they can joke about, like Kofi losing his accent, all of Kane’s personas, or other obviously silly creative choices.
But criticizing themselves for how they treated an entire gender? Or even how they mythologize their own story while ignoring the stuff that makes them look bad? Yeah, that seems like a lot.
That said, they opened the door. Asking them to walk through it seems fairly reasonable. Right?

B-Sides
Beware
Bronson Reed challenged Ricochet because he believes the One and Only cost him a match against GUNTHER. He’s not entirely wrong, either.
I like when the person who talks that talk delivers on said talk. Bronson Reed did that and more in a very solid match with Ricochet. Ricochet made Bronson look like an agile monster who takes a licking and keeps ticking.
I like what they’re doing with Bronson and hope it continues. Him vs. GUNTHER might rock the world.

The Start of Your Ending
Haitch sees big things in Zoey Stark. We got a video before her match, where she proudly proclaimed the time of heroes is over, and then she made pretty quick work of Candice LeRae. Even with Nikki Cross’ companionship, Candice proved no match for Zoey.
WWE often does a lot of telling and not showing with their storytelling, but that changed with Zoey. She said she’s here to destroy our favorites and before the bell rang, before she even took off her jacket, she attacked Candice.
That’s great presentation for someone WWE wants us to care about and take seriously.

Shut ‘Em Down
Raw kicked off with Brock Lesnar jumping Cody Rhodes. There’s no other way to say it. Well, maybe there is, but that’s the most visceral way. During said jumping, Brock injured Cody’s arm to the point he needed a sling.
This is Brock Lesnar at his best. Continuing his animalistic rage from last week, Brock showed no remorse for the man who claims he wants to fight Brock.
Things got worse for Cody later in the show when Brock hit the ring and called Cody out.
From that point? Violence. All Violence. Brock trapped Cody’s injured arm in a Kimura Lock. With Adam Pearce and co. begging Brock to let go, Brock held on to Cody’s arm like younger me holding on to a Power Ranger toy. And he yelled “fight me!” with all the chaos happening.
Unhinged Brock is the man. Like I said last week, he brings a believability and reality to everything he does, which puts him head, shoulders, knees, and toes above the rest of the roster.
I don’t know if this means Cody wins at Night of Champions since a one-armed man beating Brock just feels wrong, but he already looks like a hero on the strength of stepping in the ring with this beast. Triple H showing up in Cody’s locker room during the show’s closing moments didn’t really tell us anything we don’t know: Cody needs a doctor, the arm is probably broken, and Cody’s the toughest cat in the world. While I always appreciate a Haitch sighting, this one fell flat for those reasons.
The man competed with a torn pec. We already know nothing stops him from getting in that ring outside of an act of God. So, yeah, we get it.
The only thing I see is maybe sowing seeds for Triple H to stop the match this weekend if it gets out of hand since he knows he’s not stopping Cody from showing up in Jeddah.

Dirt All By My Lonely
Shinsuke Nakamura needs a crew. That’s his story on Raw so far, and one progressed in his match with Finn Balor. The two got into it last week after the credits rolled and Shinsuke, despite the numbers against him with Damian Priest standing ringside, walked to the ring solo.
He felt the effects too. Damian interfered with a massive clothesline early on, and took Finn out of harm’s way while Shin loaded up his finisher.
Good story, good match, and the right man won as it relates to that story. When does Shinsuke reach his breaking point? Or does he find a way through all these factions as a man without a country?

Friends
Speaking of solo acts, Raquel Rodriguez started the night sans partner. After defeating Sonya Deville, but not before Sonya started with a lot of aggression, Raquel found a friend: Shotzi.
WWE gave us a very brief prelude to next week’s Fatal 4-Way for the women’s tag team championships, with Shotzi taking Liv’s place by Raquel’s side and showing no love or mercy towards Sonya & Chelsea Green.
That’s a good spot for Shotzi, who might finally make her mark on the red brand. Shout out to Graves for that Micheal Keaton batman reference. "You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts".
Make sure to see The flash in theaters next month.

Hate Me Now
“People fear what they don’t understand, hate what they can’t conquer...” Corey Graves called Nas, my second fav rapper of all time, a great American and quoted that line from “Hate Me Now.” He used it in reference to Dom and I don’t even care.
Dom won his match against Apollo Crews thanks to more Mami interference but it doesn’t matter because someone shouted out Nas on Raw.
Dom may become my favorite wrestler now on principle now.

Soul Brother #1
Matt Riddle stepped up as Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn’s partner against Imperium. Matt helped them during the show’s opening segment and continued into the main event. That’s all part of Matt doing everything he can to solidify his friendship with the tag champs.
The three vanquished the big bad villains and sent the crowd home happy. While it made the tag champs look good, it didn’t do much for getting me excited for GUNTHER’S Intercontinental title match against Mustafa Ali. In fact, the only time we saw Ali tonight came during an impassioned backstage promo that Brock promptly interrupted.
Not saying Ali needs a presence during this tag match, although that makes sense now that I write it, but showing those two bumping heads even once goes a long way.
A six-man tag between these men will deliver in the ring. But I never got the “why.” Last week, it looked like Imperium setting their sights on tag team gold and WWE teeing up a story of the champs beset on all sides with no breathing room. But Matt shows up this week and everything is cool.
Nothing against the match at all, but this hardly feels like the best way to end Raw before Night of Champions.

I enjoyed this episode for the most part. The main event didn’t do much for me and I think they missed some opportunities throughout the show’s second half. And I still wish they didn’t make it so obvious Seth Rollins is beating AJ Styles.
That said, the story with Lita and Trish intrigues me the most. If WWE just got out of their own way, they might have something truly memorable on their hands.

In my opinion, it is dangerous for the lady wearing certain type of clothes especially if she is walking alone in a dark alley.

Before she's able to get help, they would have ripped her clothes apart and raped her. By the time the help arrived, it might already be too late.
That's why your opinion on this issue is ignorant, ill-informed and should have just remained in your head.

Racism will take a long time before it dies off. It is a societal issue not a footballing issue.

I won't sit here and tell Vinicius how to react but if he wishes to enjoy his football and continue to help his team, he should develop thicker skin and allow the authorities to identify and deal with offenders.

But when he takes it upon his own hands to challenge the fans, he'll make things worse for himself.
Stop man just stop.
This isn't the first time he or the club has complained about the racism he has been facing and the federation hasn't done anything about it.
Just look at the silly tweet Tebas made, instead of addressing the issue.
Every human being isn't built with the same temperament and we shouldn't even have to be discussing this problem in 2023.

What is wrong is wrong and you should never try to justify it in anyway.

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

One question I had headed into this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown was in regards to how it would feel to go back to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn squaring up with Roman Reigns, even if this time it’s over the tag team titles and also includes Solo Sikoa. Would there be the same heat as before?
The short answer is “no” but that’s only natural. Despite being champions, Owens and Zayn have been moved into a bit of a secondary role here, helping push along the story of The Usos falling out of favor with their Tribal Chief.
They came together right at the start of this week’s show, and Reigns claimed his sole regret in his career is wasting any of his life on Zayn. Sami responded by saying his sole regret is not blasting Roman with that chair even sooner.
But what really hit was when Sami said that Reigns won’t get what he wants, finally, because “you’re not as good as us” and then really hit him hard with “you’re not as good as The Usos either.”
That one hit hard.
Naturally, Reigns tried to respond and couldn’t because Jimmy & Jey hit the ring to put the boots to Sami & Kevin, thinking they were helping. They were, of course, but not in the way Roman wanted, because it wasn’t the plan he had laid out. As he stormed off, he bumped into Solo and there was a brief moment of tension.
Or at least the tease of as much. It didn’t last long but there was definitely some electricity there.
Cut to backstage, and Reigns berated the The Usos for not following his rule. It’s worth noting how much of an emotional mess he was here, both because he couldn’t keep his family in line and because he’s still very much upset about how the entire ordeal with Zayn went down.
It adds an extra layer to the match at Night of Champions.
Of course I’m buying in again.
Later in the evening, The Usos took on the LWO in the main event. Paul Heyman brought word that while Reigns had decided to forgive the duo, he wouldn’t be out there for support.
The match itself was fantastic — I’m convinced The Usos are incapable of having a bad match at this point in their careers — and saw the LWO win when Santos Escobar pinned Jimmy after Owens and Zayn made their presence felt simply by showing up ringside. The distraction was enough.
Roman’s reaction? Disgust.
The rift grows wider.

We got our first look at Grayson Waller on the main roster in the form of his hosting an episode of his show-within-the-show, “The Grayson Waller Effect.” AJ Styles was his special guest.
And they took no chances with the segment:
Waller played it straight at first, and Styles talked about beating Seth Rollins to win the new world heavyweight championship at Night of Champions. It was all standard fare.
To close it out, because he spent almost zero time being antagonistic before this, Waller said he couldn’t wait to hear the announcement of the new world heavyweight champion being Rollins. Styles responded by staring him down, and that’s how they faded out of the segment.
It was an underwhelming debut appearance for Waller, who didn’t show much of what made him so compelling in NXT. It was just one show, of course, but you only get one chance to make a first impression.
If anything, this makes me wonder if surprise call ups are the better play than drafting folks and struggling to find a way to naturally fit them into ongoing storylines.
Again, though, it’s still plenty early and he’s a talented wrestler who will surely be just fine.

LET ME TALK TO YA!
YEAH!
I’m happy to report that yet another city responded to LA Knight like the absolute mega star he is, wildly cheering for his entrance and going right along with all his catchphrases. If this man doesn’t win the Money in the Bank ladder match, I’m going to start getting concerned with Triple H’s eyes and ears.
Meanwhile, his partner, Rick BOOGS, was pinned by Montez Ford to lose their match against The Street Profits. Knight responded by picking him up and hitting him with the BFT.
What this means above all else is WWE was never planning to stick him in a lame tag team for any extended period of time. Here’s to hoping they do more to capitalize on his growing popularity before it gets away from them.

All the rest
-Pretty Deadly made their debut on the main roster with a pre-tape introducing them followed by the elaborate slo-mo entrance and a match against The Brawling Brutes, Ridge Holland & BUTCH. The crowd wasn’t reacting much to Wilson & Prince but it was their first showing on the blue brand. The match was well worked, and they scored the victory with “some shenanigans,” as Michael Cole referred to it.

-Asuka, who is challenging Bianca Belair for the Raw women’s championship at Night of Champions, defeated Zelina Vega in a singles match. What was strange was the way they called attention to the hugely touching response to Vega at Backlash in Puerto Rico and even mentioned how she needs to capitalize on the momentum of that evening, even if she came up short. I’m not sure how having her lose to the next top contender to the title does that. They actually had a fun match and Zelina showed flashes of what she could be as a babyface underdog. The crowd was hugely into her, and it looks clear to this writer she deserves a bigger push. Meanwhile, Belair hit the scene to run Asuka off and got mist spit in her face again. I’m having trouble being terribly excited about them running this back, especially seeing how good Vega was.

-Cameron Grimes wants to go to the moon. Just a quick reminder.

-Karrion Kross showed the latest tarot card for the guy he will be coming for next — AJ Styles. Tick tock.

-Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn won a squash match for their debut match on the blue brand. They brought the NXT tag team titles along with them, and were announced that way too. It adds to the confusion around multiple titles in WWE right now more than anything. But, hey, they’re here!

-They revealed Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez have been forced to relinquish the women’s tag team titles due to Morgan’s injury and then booked a Fatal 4-Way for Raw in two weeks. That match, by the way, will not include Fyre & Dawn. I’m not sure what that says about the NXT women’s tag team titles but there you go.

-Austin Theory cut a promo on Sheamus saying he expected better when he first showed up on the blue brand after the Draft. He ran Sheamus down a bit before The Celtic Warrior workout guru hit the scene to lay him out and drop the mic without a word. This was all the setup needed for a United States championship match next week.

This was an okay show.

But i will say this and what i have always said in my reality, Pep is a more tactically sound coach to Ancelotti presently and a more complete coach in our present world today (i own my words)

Individual brilliance helped us a lot last year and when i made it clear on the Bayern and Chelsea thread, my fellow Madridista refuted it and said it was all Carlo, lmao now his eyes are clear on that 😅

A sensible coach would be preparing for next season already by trying out new midfield combinations and new attackers especially our senior Castilla players but you see this our mumu coach he'll keep on using the same tired Modric and Kroos and Benzema and Carvajal instead of fresh young blood waiting in the wings.
I just hope all this talk of him staying and seeing off his contract is false.

WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

Take It Back
The Nairalanders who also love Wu Tang Clan might recognize that song choice. For those who don’t—and how dare you not love the Wu—it’s a track from 8 Diagrams. Not the group’s finest hour by a long shot and that song summed up why. Wu promised to “take it back” to their heyday with the song and the album, but lacked a clear direction or reason for existing. Previous Wu projects had that modus operandi, and never presented the group as old men telling kids to get off their lawns
I think about that song in relation to the main event angle and Carmelo Hayes’ recent words about taking NXT back to the Black and Gold days. And he very well might because we know he gets busy between those ropes. Bron Breakker as well.
But like that song and 8 Diagrams, their angle lacks focus.
Melo and Trick called Bron out early. Bron no showed and they got Drew Gulak & Charlie Dempsey instead. Drew & Charlie challenged Trick Melo gang to a match since their scheduled match suffered complications, to which Trick & Melo obviously obliged.
I’m all for more Trick in the ring after last week and he did well again. But it’s also not why I’m here; give me more Bron & Melo.
NXT probably knew that which is why the tag match wrapped pretty quickly with Melo getting the W for his team and immediately turned their attention back towards the Big Bad Booty Nephew.
That’s when things got weird.
Bron showed up on the big screen in Melo’s barbershop. I guess that was threatening? Melo looked angry but...that’s it? He went to the shop, got a cut, and then immediately sat up. There’s no danger there and Bron didn’t even disrespect the place. Yeah the extras patrons looked nervous but he didn’t threaten anyone.
Which brings us to the very end of the show when Bron finally showed after Trick & Melo showed up again and held the show hostage.
Bron came with security in tow, got on the mic, and sounded mad awkward. I said last week that less is more with Bron when it comes to talking. In fact, less talking and more action works for him. This is another exhibit why. Bron switched his motivation back to not wanting the championship.
He seemingly forgot spearing Melo out the air last week even after mentioning it earlier in the show. Then, for some reason, he trash talked Boston sports teams. That makes sense if you’re in Boston, or Melo established on television how much he loved those teams, or both. But trash talking Boston sports teams in Florida won’t get the heel reaction Bron wanted.
And he knew as much because he paused and looked around the arena as soon as the words left his lips.
Chaos eventually broke out like we all wanted. The champion and his challenger who doesn’t care about the championship finally got their hands on each other. They battled to a draw as the credit rolled with both men on the mat and the championship lying between them.
And I felt none of it. This build just isn’t working and I don’t know who to blame. I hoped with Bron firmly as a heel that they might tell an interesting story here but it’s the exact opposite and, unfortunately, boring.
Their angle crystalized most of this week’s show: a lot happening, none of it truly compelling, and not really worth anyone’s time.

B-Sides
I Dare You
Cora Jade practically dared Fallon Henley, or any woman, to test her in this tournament. That’s the way she worked her match too: As the top flight heel who believes she’s above the competition.
Cora capitalized on Fallon’s knee injury, as a good heel should, and went to the pay window. She also advanced to the semi-finals but yeah, pay window.
They got less than 10 minutes to work but they made it physical, which made the hate between the two palpable.

Da Mystery of Chessboxin’
The Brothers Creed and the Dyad rocked the world this week. Incredible match from top to bottom. NXT normally delivers on its tag matches and this lived up to that hype.
And to top it off, it seems like the Diamond Mine as a whole exorcised their Schism demons. At least for the moment.
Ava tried getting the drop on Ivy Nile but Ivy reversed her sneak attack hold into Ivy’s patented submission. Brutus hit a Brutus Bomb on the outside while Julius finished it off in the ring. That’s an emphatic win. And with all that momentum, they officially challenged Gallus to a tag team championship match at Battleground.
They played Chess while Schism, unsurprisingly, played checkers.

Code of the Street
The Supernova Sessions didn’t do much for me. It was Noam Dar interviewing Dragon Lee, with Noam being his normal obnoxious self. Which is perfectly fine and in character, but the execution just left me wanting. Nathan Frazer showed up, which got under Noam’s very thin skin.
The long and short of this very loud and rambling segment? Noam puts his Heritage Cup on the line against Dragon Lee but takes on Nathan next week just to prove a point.

Money, Power & Respect
I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop in this Chase U situation. On one hand, we all see Duke Hudson inching Andre Chase out of power. On the other, Duke shows so much dedication to the job. Duke grading papers during Thea Hail’s initial dustup with Kiana James provided some comedy as he nonchalantly granted Thea permission to wrestle Kiana after Ms. James threw insults her way.
Duke continued grading papers during the actual match, meaning he didn’t provide the spirit and energy Andre does. Thea not having a cheerleader in her corner no doubt contributed to Kiana’s W.
But looking at this as a television show, I’m not sure what a victory over Thea does for Kiana at this point. Kiana had a spot in the tournament for the Women’s championship. Storyline wise, she’s on a different level, so it’s hard getting invested in a match with Thea, who isn’t there yet.

Anger in the Nation
Schism attacked Tyler Bate and Wes Lee, effectively putting them out of the tag match against the Dyad. Joe Gacy wants Wes’ championship, plain and simple. But he also believes Tyler Bate has an ulterior motive; he and Ava believe Tyler only helps Wes because he wants a shot at that same championship.
Aaaaand he was 1000 percent right.
The weird thing about all of this, and this goes for Tyler and Joe, is the fact that Wes never turns down a request! Ever. If you want a shot at his championship, just ask. He established that pattern pretty early in his reign and said it this week.
I get they’re creating drama between Tyler and Wes for a triple threat match at Battleground, but it’s just weird writing from my perspective since, again, Wes’ character takes on all comers, friend or foe, no questions asked.
So now we go into a triple threat where it's truly every man for himself, a development that presumably gives Joe the advantage. I like where they got but the way they got there felt clunky.

Keep It Thoro
The Prodigy vs. the Princess. That’s the other half of the semi-final bracket for the NXT Women’s championship as Roxanne Perez defeated Jacy Jayne this week in a very solid match.
Keeping it all the way real, I’m not a big Jacy fan. I thought Gigi held them up as a tag team and Jacy got over thanks to Gigi and even more thanks to Mandy Rose. But she impressed me this week when she held her own against a former NXT Women’s champ. That’s a big deal and great for her future.
That performance also makes me look forward to her impending rematch with Gigi, who jumped her former partner after Roxanne took the W.
On the whole, this is one of two matches I really enjoyed this week, So hey, they got that going for them.

Whew, rough week. I really don’t know what else to say besides that. The show started with some promise but never found a rhythm and felt like someone mashed several ideas together hoping they fit. Sadly for everyone involved, they really didn’t. And I purposefully left out some segments with Dijak and Ilja Dragunov because...yeah, no.

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

Check Yo Self
I’m intrigued by something brewing between Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens. Kevin made it clearer than crystal that he wants to move on from the Bloodline. He’s tired. He’s over it. He cares less about the fact they’re fighting Solo Sikoa & Roman Reigns at Night of Champions and more about the fact it’s just one more fight.
But Sami cares. He cares so much that he believes Night of Champions provides he and his partner their own redemption song. Sami believes he and KO both owe Roman losses after he stole victories, and he passionately hates the fact that Roman thinks he’s Mustafa: the ruler of everything the light touches.
The obvious question is how that might affect their Night of Champions matchup but, specifically, their match this week with Damian Priest & the Prince. KO needs Sami focused on the immediate future since Judgment Day rolls deep. And sure enough, shortly after the bell rang, Finn beckoned Rhea & Dom to make an appearance. Two-on-two morphed into four vs. two. Actually, make it five vs. two because we know neither Kevin or Sami will touch Rhea.
The ref took care of Rhea & Dom after they both overstepped their bounds, as per usual. But Paul Heyman always has an ace up his sleeve. And no, that’s not a reference to a former NXT wrestler who made his debut this week. More on him later.
The Wise Man made a deal with Imperium, while also informing Damian & Finn so they knew beforehand. On one hand, this gets under the tag champs’ skin. On the other, it shows them—specifically Sami—the amount of teams aiming for their spot. Even if they come back from Night of Champions with belts in their hands, more challenges await.
Sami taking the pin thanks to GUNTHER interfering also makes sense. Like I said, Sami’s focused elsewhere at the moment. Taking a pin during a main event is usually a wakeup call. Maybe this wakes him up to everything else happening outside of Roman. But if you want my opinion, and you’re here for that, I say it doesn’t. He still wants Roman and Roman is only a few days away. And even then, if they retain, is he truly ready to move on from the Tribal Chief?
I’m not calling for more beef between the current tag champs at all, but it’s something worth watching.

B-Sides
U Don’t Know Me
Shinsuke Nakamura actually had his hands full with Miz. Not saying that’s a bad thing either, because Miz’s story right now is all about credibility. While he and Shinsuke didn’t get to the level Seth & Miz achieved several weeks ago, they provided a solid opening match.
Miz tried cheating, but, in a nice touch, his erratic nature caused him the victory. He paid so much attention to cheating and scrambling for the victory that he pinned Shinsuke too close to the ropes. The ref stopped the count, and that was the end for the A-lister.
Shinsuke got a good W using his finisher also rather than a rollup or small package. When in doubt, give me the finisher over a quick pin. At least in a match where one person wants to establish dominance.

Public Service Announcement (Interlude)
Some scribbles on the Battle Royale:
GUNTHER introduced himself to everyone on the Red brand. Imperium essentially hit pause on the show as the Ring General stood on the commentary table, announced himself, his accolades, and threw shade towards the future battle royale winner.
Bronson Reed got a lot of shine here. Multiple men tried eliminating him to no avail, and he stuck around until the final three.
I don’t like introducing JD McDonnagh through a battle royale. Besides the fact he gets no television entrance for his very first match on Raw, he got no chance to truly shine or standout. And his first feud on Monday nights? Dolph Ziggler. The good news? His first dance partner is Dolph Ziggler. The bad news? His first dance partner is Dolph Ziggler. Dolph is excellent in the ring and makes everyone look better. But it’s 2023. I can't imagine many audiences investing in a Dolph feud at this point.
But they made up for it later with a nice video followed by a quick backstage interview where the Irish Ace explained why he went after Dolph. And then Finn Balor showed up, lurking in the shadows like Batman. Don’t be shocked if JD ends up in Judgment Day.
Dexter Lumis has beef with Maxxine’s models. And speaking of those models, Maxxine’s focus is Otis. Mansoor and Mace are step-children to her right now. They got eliminated and she paid it no mind while rooting for her new favorite man candy brand.
Mustafa Ali won! While I have no delusions that Ali beats GUNTHER at Night of Champions, it’s still a high profile spot for a guy who worked his butt off for years for this very moment.

Thank You
Becky Lynch’s promo ability is one reason she is where she is and who she is at this moment. Her promo tonight towards Trish Stratus felt real, told a story, and had rhythm! I love rhythm in any type of writing, dialogue, or random speech. Repetition is a key ingredient for any speech and she used it perfectly this week when she answered Trish’s challenge.

Heat
Dom’s heat remains the thing worth talking about. The man showed up in this week’s opening segment as the Judgment Day confronted KO & Sami, and got booed out the building. KO actually asked for the boos because he, comically, asked for Dom’s opinion. The crowd loves to boo this man so KO obliged them.
Secondly, the crowd booed him when he simply showed up in a backstage segment featuring Rhea Ripley and Nattie. That’s it. He just walked on screen, tapped Rhea on her shoulder, and the boos rained down like money in Gotham City during Batman’s third act.
Then he got more boos during his rematch with Xavier Woods. A rematch that Woods lost, again, thanks to Rhea, again.
I really have nothing to say about the match itself because Dom’s heat amazes me. The more it intensifies, the more I want to talk about it and explore it. WWE’s doing great with him now but they really need to do something with all that emotion.

Kill ‘Em All
I’m torn on Cody Rhodes’ promo this week. While I liked the passion—I always love Cody’s passion—his schtick has its limits for me. The “what do you want to talk about” thing comes off as corny and trying too hard, while he is always self-indulgent. Intellectually, I always appreciate a good reference to the scorpion and the frog fable, I don’t like it in the wrestling ring. Thankfully he told an abridged version. But, he also didn’t say anything new; we got all this last week, minus the fable.
I understand building a program with Brock isn’t easy, but it’s weird devoting precious minutes in a three-hour show when it doesn’t move the ball forward even an inch. Cody wants to kill Brock and move on to something bigger and better. And at this rate, so do I.

I Declare War
Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler finally made their Raw debuts...much to Raquel Rodriguez’s chagrin.
But before we get there, let’s talk about the fact Raquel and Liv Morgan didn’t defend their championships this week as promised. Liv is hurt (legitimately) so Raw called an audible: Raquel vs. Chelsea Green.
Green put up a fight, as she should since she’s in a contending tag team, but Raquel got the W.
Ronda & Shayna cut that celebration short. They jumped Raquel and told her she’s catching this same beatdown every week until she defends those championships. Specifically against them. At least I assume that’s what she meant since Raquel & Liv just defended the titles on the last SmackDown. Or maybe Ronda doesn’t watch on Fridays since she’s no longer a part of the show.
Either way, interesting conundrum here. But let’s hope Liv is okay and heals quickly.

This show flew by. We even got some interview segments between Corey Graves and Seth Rollins. I hope they’re doing the same for AJ Styles so not to make it so obvious that Seth leaves Saudi Arabia with the new championship around his waist.
Anyway, fun show that set up matches for next week, progressed some balls this week, and didn’t do too much.

You come everyday with review. You critique too, telling us what you liked and what you didn't, while backing it up with logic - that's exactly what I'm doing. We know this, all belts are defended on the said PPV, but today there's an exception with no tangible reason whatsoever. The main company belt isn't defended on the night when all belts are supposed to be defended? And what's the world champ's excuse? Going after a smaller belt he has absolutely no business with and no current expertise on. And all what this company has to say to explain all these is that "strings were pulled"? Haba. No wonder they aren't gaining new fans. Them go just confuse them on their first viewing. And don't worry, AEW isn't exempted from this problem.
When I critique I don't go as deep as you do bro cos at the back of my mind I know it's all Kayfabe and I like it that way.
