RE: First Man (2018)

“One small step for man... one giant leap for mankind.”

I don’t think there’s a piece of history that fascinates me more than the "Moon Landing". Recently, I went down a rabbit hole on YT suggesting that the whole thing might have been staged, so I decided to revisit what is perhaps my favourite dramatization of the event.

Damien Chazelle and Ryan Gosling have such a great filmmaker actor bond, and here, Ryan plays Neil Armstrong the first man to set foot on the moon. The film focuses more on Neil’s personal story than the moon landing itself, his struggles, family tragedy, and the weight of his mission. He wrestles with the reality that he might never return, and even NASA was aware of that risk, reportedly planning a “burial at sea,” just in case.

It’s such a technically brilliant film. The way it switches between Neil’s family life and the Apollo mission preparations is top-tier. The moon landing sequence itself is a thing of beauty , visually stunning, emotional, and tense. And what’s a Damien Chazelle film without a Justin Hurwitz score? He worked his magic once again. The track, aptly named “The Landing”, played during the lunar module’s approach to the moon, remains one of my favourite film scores ever.

Now, to the elephant in the room: the moon landing hoax theories. The evidence presented by the “moon landing hoax” brigade seems, at first glance, almost irrefutable. They argue that humanity wasn’t yet capable mathematically or technologically of achieving such a feat at the time. Some even claim that Stanley Kubrick directed the whole thing on a Hollywood set, especially since he had just made 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) a year prior.

NASA hasn’t done much to silence these claims either. These brothers were so eager to reach the moon at a time when the fastest computer on Earth probably had less than 2MB of RAM. Yet today, with our advanced technology and spacecraft capable of deep-orbit missions, a return to the moon is considered too evasive, expensive, and risky? The lack of urgency to go back definitely raises questions.

Anyway, this remains one of my favourite films ever, and if you’re interested in this topic, it’s an easy recommend. 🌑🚀

8/10

abduleez1:
I ignored it when it came out last year. I have it o my watchlist but it's looking hard to join now when S2 has already begun. 😩
Same way I gave up on that Solo Leveling early on that everybody's hyping. 🤔

Illusioneffect:
Somehow I'd love to be one of the 12 😂 I don't know what her deal is - she wants everyone to be as miserable as she is. Also the synopsis of the series does not do justice to itself at all

Illusioneffect:
Bro just thinking about the show's potential is kinda insane. The amount of character development we are about to get from the six people will be insane. I'm sure probably everyone could just die. Rhea Seehorn has already killed at least 20 million people in the space of 2 episodes 😂😂 insane!!

CoolUsername:
I should probably say possible brain injury due to conflicting reports. During the title match with CM Punk he suffered an orbital fracture and and a subdural haematoma (some reports say it is a septal haematoma, which is a far milder nose injury).

joseph1832:
Abeg try remember the name of the movie.

CoolUsername:
Gunther is out indefinitely with a brain injury and broken orbital bone

odizeey:

Excuse you, the first female action what?

You obviously haven't see. barb Wire, that star Pamela Anderson. Back then, anytime I watched any scene she appears, I be like, "on boy see boooobiiiiii". That woman made an imprint back in my early teens. Lol

abduleez1:

Achilles100:
My Chief, nor be like that na. I wouldn't classify this as a spoiler or near one cos anyone who has seen the trailer knows what the trailer is about( except there are people who start watching a show without seeing the trailer).

Besides when is the right time to talk about shows airing, we can't wait for the whole season before dropping opinions and theory na. Just a thought though.

Yeah, I clocked the time stamp, it's just that the day when she took ownership of that pickup truck seemed like it was happening everywhere at once to the remaining people, hence me asking the mode of spread.

Achilles100:
Pluribus

It's one of those shows that you want to see the end, you can't wait for the next episode. I love it.

A question though, how did it spread so fast? Did they spray something in the air or what? Cos it happened all at once in every place. What is due to the trails they saw on the night of the event of what?

joseph1832:
compare the battle scenes with that of Spartacus, which is better?

samistry:
Smackdown doing nothing to disprove the allegations as the worst wrestling show on TV.

oyaskii:
Omooo... This + Frankenstein (2025) + A new Power Book IV: Force season, all this weekend.... feasting like madddd! my g 😩😩🍜

Illusioneffect:
Mahn, it has been so long here😭😭😭
I came to just slightly rant about Pluri us!!
I was not expecting too much from Vince Gilligan but I just watched the best pilot episode of the year! Wtfuckery! No spoilers but I did not even know it was a sci-fi show mahnnn😭❤️

abduleez1:
Saw the trailer some months back and was hyped especially with Claire Danes involvement. Saw the final trailer few weeks ago and it drained my hype. Then I started seeing the reviews this week and it's a head scratcher.

AirBere:

Jumping all over the place lol. Context is EPL and Laliga is far behind them lol. No worries my man!

Basic Instinct (1992).....7/10

This follows multimillionaire Catherine Trammell after her boyfriend dies mysteriously in his home. Then comes detective Nicky "shooter" Hoss who seeks to get down to the root cause and is entangled in a battle of wits with two smart beautiful women with tragic pasts and degrees in psychology to boot.

The confusing storytelling style making you guess who the villainess was— who did what and what not? It was nice and smart play. Keeping you guessing from time to time despite showing you some easter eggs that truly reveals the culprit right in your face.

Ambiguous ending that can be interpreted by everyone anyhow they like. But what's pretty clear is that Sharon Stone was an otherworldly exciting Femme Fatale.

While Hoss knew who the true killer was, he remained with her. I guess they're more of the same especially with his continuous bouts of killing people yet getting away with it.

Sh@qqing like minks was a very appetizing proposition than probably facing the bleak personality disorder, I guess. Many would have done the same with that enticing sëdúctres$ to boot.

The erötiç!sm and nüdity was top tier and a glorious watch. Quite entertaining film. Keeps you glued right from the start till you finish. Superb eröt!c thriller with pristine rewatch value. A classic. That scene will forever remain GOATED.

AirBere:
On Ronaldo, he has made it very clear that he's not going to be humble. I doubt he'll congratulate anyone when the record is broken. The world cup was a dream for him, all of a sudden, it's no longer a dream. Bdor was more important, golden boot was more important then....

On the picture, the image is very clear chief. Laliga teams are being rawdawged by EPL teams. Last game Liverpool nearly take Madrid life and the scoreline kinda flattering coz of world class Courtous.

I'm not saying Laliga is mid, it's still a top 2 league. I'm just highlighting the current strength between EPL teams and Liga teams. I also pointed out the UCL table with Liga dominating the bottom half. No other team in the top 5 have more than 1/2 teams there.
