Adedeji Fashina, is a certified Engineer and member, Nigeria Society of Engineers. He is the Protem Secretary, Internal Control and Party Discipline of the newly registered Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP). In this encounter with Ismail Omipidan, he spoke on how the party was formed and why he joined the group. * How do you feel getting recognition from INEC as a registered political party? * There’s no gainsaying, I feel elated and happy for reasons more than one. First is the fact that not many persons gave us a splitting chance of getting certified, especially when we are no moneybags or old-order politicians. It is a case of can- do spirit, vision, hard-work, tenacity and professionalism paying off. It is one thing to describe the problems of Nigeria and to analyse it, but it is an entirely different thing to take steps and start doing something about the situation. To gather passionate, vibrant and sound Nigerian people to put heads together to aim at and attempt to change, not just the government but our politics, is no doubt heart warming. One year of complying with INEC requirements are not so simple, but if you must change a system you must be an example of that system. We were dogged, refused all temptations to cut corners, stuck to our core ethos and principles and today we are here as a registered political party. It is indeed an amazing thing. Being registered is not however the end, it is only the beginning of real work, the paradigm shift in Nigeria’s politics. * You are not known to be a politician, so what were the things that informed your decision to join the group? * During my quiet moments of introspection, I have often wondered about why things are retrogressing in Nigeria. About how real credible change can be brought about in the Country and how our future and our children’s future can be better and safe-guarded. I have often wondered that with the present scenario where a few individuals have grown to become god-fathers in existing political parties, whereby democratic ideals are often thrown to the seas upon the directives of money-bags and how little or no dividends of democracy are getting to our people. It was during one of those moments that I got a call in early December 2016 from my friend Tope Fasua, an Economist, Financial Analyst and Service Excellence Advocate of a plan to register a new party. Tope, had been writing a series of articles on the need for disenchanted Nigerians to quit the complaining and move away from arm-chair criticism and take action. He envisioned the creation of a mega-party of all Nigerians who felt short-changed by the inept governance. I immediately signified interest because that was what we needed. The other argument was that we should join the old parties and make the difference from within. With due respect, how can we hope to reform a system that has left Nigeria prostrate? A system that had no sound ideology, that didn’t try to communicate with any of their members, and had no discernible decent DNA? We rather went with the idea of establishing a new path rather than dissuading people from following an old path. We needed a new approach to governance outside of what the establishment politicians were offering. Untainted Nigerians, professionals, business people, tradesmen/women etc, decided it was time to come together to take destiny into our own hands instead of complaining on social media and offline. Let the light engage the darkness and let’s see the result. * How did you come about the name of the Party? * The name of the party was initially centered around ‘Renewal’ because we believe there is a need for renewing the way we think and do things. We believe also that there is Abundance in Nigeria to reach all, including our generations yet unborn, if we organise well and are sincere. We believe that the Abundance Nigeria has is for all and not just for a chosen few. Hence, the name, ANRP. Registering a party is one thing, making impact during election is another; what are the strategies you have put in place to ensure your party does not end up like many other mushroom ones before it? First of all let us understand that the party is set up first to point Nigeria and our huge population in the direction of renewal. We are here to bring about a Renewal in our society in and out of government. For us, it’s not a sprint but a marathon. We are here for the long haul. We are here for Nigeria, not just elections. And that’s what sets us apart from all the mushroom parties you talked about. We are registering an Institute to carry the ethos and message of the party to different strata of the society. If we change our politics maybe we will start having a different outcome. In essence, while we are out there mass mobilising and reaching out to our people, we have a long term approach to renewing Nigeria. We are a grassroots party, active in all 36 states, the FCT and in the Diaspora. We have presence in local government areas in the states and down to council wards. Our 28000+ verifiable members are spread across and our membership is growing daily. One election cannot determine success or failure for us. Indeed one election may be a signal to redouble our efforts and instil a sense of urgency but one election cannot define us whether win or lose. Yet we are confident of making an impact in the next election and changing the narrative. And this has already started. We initiated crowd funding, online registration and party supremacy and structure, and even the old parties are now copying us. Setting the pace is what we do. We are running for all offices in the land beginning with local government elections this 2018. We already have candidates. Our party has a policy of sponsoring our councillorship candidates. We take the local government system serious because it is the closest to the people. As we go on from election to election, we shall keep improving. * What are your projections as far as 2019 is concerned? * As regards 2019, we believe our Nation will witness a departure from the old ways. It will not be entire but it will be significant enough for further action to be built upon. We want members, not just voters. As members, we are part-owners of the party and together we can choose the best candidates through transparent primaries by open ballot system. |
Saao:You're funny. |

OF TRUTHS, CONSTITUTIONS AND ACTIONS BY Oluwamayowa Lala There are three concerns here, first, truths leading to the second which is constitutions which finally lead to the third, actions. OF TRUTHS Truth is a statement that is correct about the past, present or future. Truths are ground works upon which every man should seek to establish their ventures in lives, most of us embrace so many scholastic doctrines in schools and other places of learning with that aim to get certain bulk of knowledge but very few people (through the act of humility of heart and readiness to learn) experience the glorious transmogrification from crassness of heart to sureness of heart by coming to the pure realm of truth that brings with it settled mind and firm heart. Every areas of life have their truths, or should we say they have facts and figures. Shares of life ranging from business, theology, history, science, morals, etc. they all have their timeless or faltering facts, know the facts about your own business or affair and soldier on, falsehood is on its guard lying in wait to mangle souls and strangle men in the spirit, A man of sound mind armed with important truths of his business, venture, pursuit or affairs would repeatedly triumph over attacks of these ugly falsehoods, but conversely there are those who would insouciantly allow apostles or objects of falsehood to hit them down with shitloads and dungs of untruth, and thereby causing themselves to be perpetually grounded while life fades away unconcernedly. Casting more light, permit me in my line of thinking and observations to present to thou two manifestations of some funny agents that are engendering bad polity of falsehood or its correspondents in our daily affairs. The first set are those heretic 'strange children' (or fake clergies) who in their officiousness will serve people with extra biblical or anti-biblical messages in their spirit of hyperpentecostalism which does not in any way conform with the kingdom philosophy of the simple gospel that gives life. Considering the harm they do, One cannot but soberly and heartily pray that God save one from their wiles. But you(!) who would seal up thy prayer, take the step of faith and humility to know the truth. The second and last band of these people are these commentators who thrive on sensationalism mixed with half-truths rather than substantial facts, they are simply feeding their unsuspecting audience with hoax. Let the topic be what it may, politics, morals, science, technology, education, etc. They’ll pop up unashamedly to stubbornly supply their unbalanced and poorly researched submissions occasioned by their intellectual shallowness, hypocrisy or deliberate will to misinform others, the commotions they cause are more than the intellectual and profiting substance they deliver. What more is there to say about truth? I presently think in my Biblical mind that it suffices to call truth ‘a light’. Truth is the great good that insulates the soul of men from the poisonous hanks of exogenous elements of falsehood that paralyse many minds into delusion, self-deception, unjustifiable docility, confusion. Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." (John 8:32). OF CONSTITUTION Constitution is the system of rules that guide actions. To also use philosophy as a synonym of constitution for the purpose of this discourse, Carter Good (1959) in his definition of philosophy submitted that, Philosophy is an integrated personal view which serves to guide the individual’s conduct and thinking. Now, to connect the dots between truth and Constitution/philosophy, it requires us to know that beliefs conceived by people whether false or true form their constitution. Personal constitution, philosophy, policy, principle (for operating in life) is an extension of a person’s belief and same goes for any society. Meeting with people especially for the first time, we usually take time to quickly read them i.e an act equivalent to knowing their constitution and by so doing we can as an act of necessity place them correctly where they really belong. In this age of subjectivism (or can we say it has always been like that) where many people quiver spontaneously to conform to the bad portion of the society system, the society comes with its own constitution and philosophies of ephemeralness that seeks to suffocate your own personal constitution if you are one of those who seek to lead a cautious life - full of discipline and a courteous life- full of love. It is generally a case of venomous elements in the society struggling with the truths in a non-conformist. Imbibe truths and therewith form your personal constitution to live by, Amen. OF ACTIONS It is simple science to submit that a man’s constitution guides his desires, wills and prospects which invariably affects his actions as an end result. O dear beloveds, the sum and substance of the truth, constitution and action matter are that truths form good personal or societal constitution which directly or indirectly translates to good personal or societal actions. AN ADDENDUM ON ACTIONS Francis Bacon reported; Question was asked of Demosthenes, what is the chief part of an orator? he answered, action; what next? action: what next again? action. Bold acts do not occur with persons who are grounded in ignorance of basic facts concerning the matters of life at hand, likewise serious actions do not feature in the equations of doubtful minds, for it is usually and sadly ‘difficult’ for men of doubt to achieve tangibles. For self-examination, I am perceiving that all these gangrenes of the mind such as doubt, falsehood, fear, half knowledge can be endogenously caused by the horde of intellectual laziness, highmindedness, self-conceit and the likes on the part of the sufferer, while these woes can be - on the other hand exogenously caused by sheer wickedness of awon-eniyan-bi-esu (satanic proxies) with deliberate will lying in wait to deceive, these ills are ‘demotivators’ and deactivators that renders people clueless and visionless! Whoso would be an accomplished person must inexorably seek to exterminate all substances of doubt, uncertainty and falsehood within private system of operation by immersing self with the spirit of humility and faith into the relevant TRUTHS for good CONSTITUTIONAL framework for best ACTIONS. Amen. |

I am taking this moment to wish our Jamb candidates good luck in their endeavours. It’s pointblank clear that many of those candidates who are unable to score up to the Jamb cut off mark -180/200, will have to try and secure admissions in polytechnics, monotechnics, etc. but again, can all of these remnants secure admissions in polytechnics and ‘Monotechnics’, you and I know the answer is definitely no, and that invariably means that the rest of our candidates who can’t make it into Universities, Polytechnics and ‘Monotechnics’ will be poured into Colleges of Education, I don’t think I will be too harsh to assume that this fraction(remnants) of Jamb candidates are the people whom Jamb and our education system has rendered at best the most ineligible or at worst ‘dregs’ of JAMB process, In order to be careful, I wouldn’t want to be part of that school of thought that postulates that these are the people that doesn’t have strengths, Of course I believe that they do have strengths, In fact I believe they are still geniuses in their own share of life but we know to an appreciable extent that they are just not fit enough for University Education at the time, and the only palliative that our education system can administer is to assuage them by pouring them into Colleges of Education, In attempts to clean up the streets of Secondary School leavers, we just pour most of these remnants into Colleges of Education. That’s ingenious, Pouring ‘Dregs’ into education business! You may begin to agree with me at this point that it is a paradox but yet, this is a nostrum that still maintains acceptability for most of our past and present stakeholders in Education(especially Jamb) to that extent that they just leave it there. This column doesn’t intend in any way whatsoever to rubbish Colleges of Education but it seeks to point ours attention and that of concerned bodies to the kind of misnomer that’s still extant in our Education System in a time like this, The disdainful way with which we have handled education subconsciously is shocking, if ‘dregs’ of Jamb process are now made to become prospective teachers ( custodians of education business), then we should expect wash-outs as graduates (products of Education Business). In my own thinking, I have always believed that Teacher’s Education should to be one of those strictest Disciplines, if Medicine as a course is accorded with due respect because we know Doctors are custodians of people’s health, then why should teachers who are custodians of children destinies or children future be a hogwash system, the future of our human capital lies in the hands of teachers and yet there is this abysmal level of complacency in the process with which we recruit people into education business as teachers. That’s totally unacceptable. Left to me, the way lawyers-in-the-making, doctors-in-the-making are all being compelled to follow a formal dress code in our universities, teachers-in-the-making should also be subjected to this level of discipline whatever it takes. In fact the years of study should be extended like others. After all, the rationale behind the adoption of teacher’s course (grade 2 and the likes) during the colonial rule was because the colonial masters obviously needed more hands on teaching job, they needed more teachers hence the running of short course for teachers. Education has gone farther than what we had in the colonial era and its quite worrisome that we still have this kwashiorkored process for bringing people into education business. Other professions give importance to practicing with license, they don’t joke with license, but education enterprise has become that hidey-hole where every Tom, Dick and Harry can hastily retire into after trying their lucks in various jobs without much success, it has become a refuge for charlatans. To make it more clearer, aren’t we beginning to have many cases of Secondary leavers (sometimes drop-outs) becoming teachers overnight, they also deem themselves fit to garbage-in-garbage-out after all it’s not some abracadabra, they only need to find one of these ‘Mushrooming’ Private Schools littering the society to absorb them into the business of education. I think it is high time that teachers also begin to operate with license, the need to practice with license should be enforced throughout the education system in Nigeria so that these impostors can be smoked out of their hidey-holes…I learnt that “there are cheaters and there are teachers”, a country’s education system can never rise above the level of trainers it has. Teacher’s education shouldn’t be treated like hogwash because these people are the ones making the future of this country. They are the ones that are building the human capital of this country, Starting from Kindergarten teachers to the University Lecturers, we should start having people who are epitome of discipline, people who products of a through system. As a teacher, I have learnt how important it is for teachers to pass through a ruthlessly efficient system and not an hogwash or wishy-washy system where we pour the remains of Jamb process into Education establishments. It is by attending to these issues as narrated hitherto and hereafter that teachers can begin to attract the veneration that they deserve. That reminds me of those days when we used to hold debates on whether we like to be a teacher or another professional (most times a doctor), the truth then and now is that many students still hate to be teachers, because right from time, our society doesn’t place correct value on teachers, they are been treated as clowns. In fact I don’t believe Teacher’s Education should be a year lesser than other University Courses/Disciplines, the time of study ought to be extended so that the course contents can further be enriched. Something is wrong somewhere, We have not been giving enough to Teacher’s Education in this country, the rate of inefficiency among our workforce in Education remains most disturbing. At this point in our national life, when some countries are beginning to optimise their human resources to generate wealth for their country, many activists had for long being advocating that it’s time for our government to have a mental shift from oil to other areas of wealth creation, they’ve established pointers that we need to start harnessing our human capital, if we want to do that perfectly well, this is the time to start reforming those abnormalities in our education system (maybe) starting from the trainers, raising the standard of the teachers (human resources) that are being put in charge of education establishments. We can by so doing begin to have quality human capital. Oluwamayowa Lala is an Educationist, Essayist and a Programmer. Mayowalala@gmail.com |

Just as some influential pastors are urging their members to arm themselves against the Fulani herdsmen who are on a killing spree across the country especially against Christians, a Catholic Reverend father has been pictured posing with an assault rifle in his church. The identity of the cleric, his church and location were not ascertained by Tori News as at the time of filing this report.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE BY Oluwamayowa Lala Dramatis personae is a recurring concept In the society, we've all-on many occasions acted scripts, those scripts written by those enigmas, egos. filthy or clean, a script it is and a script it remains.it was and is never a reality. we just acted those scripts. That dramatis personae in us is what makes us act what we are not, we deceive ourselves acting scripts, and supposing during that inglorious moment of faking, a neutral person walks up to us on the stage of life, naively presents us with a task that's overwhelming for our true self, still in pretense, we accept and on and on we gradually get caught in those meshes. In my few adventures in life, most painful blows I got were in times I did dramatis personae. For I murmured within myself thereafter, why did I act? Why did I do dramatis personae? Why didn’t I face the reality of who I am? Why?(! ) I’ve always asked myself in those troublous moments of dramatis personae. That celestial heat within would nudge me until I do away with those treacherous costumes. On Sundays, many of our Christians would go to church wearing their costumes to act that ‘holier than thou script’, what we are not, we act. Dramatis personae! On seeing the clerics they hastily adjust as if that enigmatic movie director had just pressed the clapperboard, we adjust into that obsequiousness. We respect clerics in the church and disobey parents at home, Dramatis personae! We treat churchmen and churchwomen kindly but deal unashamedly with husbands and wives at home. What about that unjustifiable aplomb on the pulpit? (King James tone please) OH thou drama king or queen! Why hast thou counted it fit to do wickedness in the sight of God in that secret place? And thus, thou counted it more righteous to act good in front of mere men, Who rewardest thou? Man or God! On the political landscape. Politicians would wear their costumes to act progressives during campaign, only get to power and become our worst nightmares. Dramatis personae! The majestic strength of a realistic, God fearing and simple man I adore. I will increasingly dread that land of fantasy for it doesn’t last, we all need-dread that self-deception filled with inner struggles between our real self and fake self of dramatis personae. For prudence…I think we should pray to learn to do away with that filthy spirit of dramatising… |

b. Who is funding the party? I heard that a certain politician is funding it. No one single individual is funding our party. It is not true that any politician(s) is/are funding our party; that is unacceptable to us in the first place. 4a. Will ANRP tackle ALL the problems of Nigeria if the party wins, or first a few critical areas? Nigeria's problems are myriad and complex. However, our party has a deep understanding Nigeria's problems and intends tackle them. We have started articulating views and debating them thoroughly within the party, and are even ready to offer them freely so long as Nigeria moves forward. We are a party of people who are ready to give their all so that our country may be truly great b. Which areas do you consider critical needing priority attention? Harnessing the energy, innocence, passion and creativity of the Nigerian youth, fixing the faulty structure of our society, creating a sense of belonging and ownership, building cohesion, creating abundance for all, and preserving the environment are all key. Health, education (developing our most important assets--our human resources), fixing power (which will enable businesses to grow and provide employment), reforming the public/civil service (the engine of the government) to make it more functional and serve Nigerians better, reform law enforcement and justice delivery (to address the numerous cases of injustice which makes most Nigerians feel alienated), promote a clean, safe, healthy, aesthetically appealing environment, eradicating hungry, achieving the sustainable development goals… all these are within our view .

1. What is the full meaning of ANRP? Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party. 2. What structures does ANRP have in place to enable them to wrestle power from the ruling party and the major opposition party? First, our party is not about "wrestling power" from the ruling and major opposition parties. Our goal is to bring about a national renewal and rebirth in the way we think and do things, and to create a NEW Nigeria. We are more interested in a new Nigeria than in merely "wrestling" and "grabbing" power. Yes, we do have structures in all 36 states and the FCT as well as outside Nigeria, as well as corporate governance structures and systems in place to drive our goal. 3a. How does ANRP intend to funds its activities? We intend to raise funds through membership subscriptions which we take very seriously. As well as freewill donations from party and non-party members. However the maximum limit for donations by individuals and bodies is N20 million and nothing more. We also intend raising funds from merchandising and other innovative means.
