laivwire: If the government is truly subsiding farmers then the same govt has the right to demand the supply of products to the market. Just like every other business, commodity trading is a thing.
Is it farmers suffering from the harsh economy that would have enough cash to starve themselves without selling their grains while waiting for prices to increase?
Whatever happened to Government mop up during harvest season and storage in silos across the country? Farmers are suffering yet they're smiling to the bank, how about the funds they received from Govt?. You think Govt is providing them funds, fertilizers, tractors, seedlings so that they can take undue advantage of Nigerians by hiking prices unnecessarily?. |
Agriculture › Re: How Import Waivers Are Crippling Local Rice Mills by Putindbutt(m): 3:05pm On May 08, 2025 |
Safyqueen: The federal government supposed to lower the cost of farming in the country. Importation of bad commodity with waiver is not sustainable and not a good one. Buhari lost it because the intervention was not directed to the farmers but millers.
A country importing products that they can produce locally has failed woefully already. How do you know they're Importating bad rice?, are you the one vetting it at the borders?. Again, it's not true that Buhari did not give the intervention to farmers directly. The farmers through their various associations and different groups got the Anchor borrowers loan and got billions of funds from NIRSAL. They got fertilizers, tractors, seedlings, etc. Stop saying what you don't know. The farmers greed has come to bite them in the ass. |

theredaddy: If IMF is saying Nigeria is no longer on the list of debtors, fine !! But on j term
is it that Tinubu repaid n clear the loan
is it base on " Debt relief" or "bad debt written off" which
saying we are not on the list is not tenable enough, what if tomorrow they put us back on the list then what do we use to hold IMF
Paris club expressively gave Nigeria debt relief to certain amount .. that is binding logically/legally
Agreement or promises must be clear, we are not toddlers This one is still proving he's an illiterate . Even when it's written in simple English. I think IMF wiped off our loans free of charge, we didn't pay one kobo . Receive sense. |

malali: • World Bank: $17.81 billion USD
Nigeria has made significant strides in reducing its IMF debt.
While its obligations to the World Bank have increased due to new loan approvals aimed at supporting various sectors.
We have paid 306 million dollars owed IMF.
But we owe World Bank close to $18 Billion dollars and we are still borrowing more....We still owe over 60 x 306 million.
We owe $5 billion dollars to China.
Stop spreading news to deceive the citizens. When you make announcements like this. Paint the whole picture.
Thats what accountability and transparency means. This one cannot even hide his bitterness, smh. You clearly see and can read the news that we're talking about IMF but you're beating around the bush talking about World bank, China, bla bla bullshit. Maybe I am mistaking that you can see, maybe you can't, or I am mistaking that you can read maybe you lack comprehension capacity. |

rinzaugustine: they kill people all over the world including Antarctica but the difference is the accountability that checks impunity and lawlessness unlike in Nigeria . In 2023 more than 500 was murdered in plateau state on Christmas day. In the last few weeks hundreds have been killed majorly benue, plateau ,, zamfara , katsina and most parts of Nigeria but nobody had been brought to book or charged to court or at least jailed outside the law like was done to rights activists like Dele farotimi, VDM etc even in nations at war people as still held accountable except in a lawless zoo like Nigeria not fit in any way to be called a country Go and check the monthly death rates by violence on the US, UK, India and compare. rinzaugustine: Adopting the ostrich mindset wishing a problem would go away is never the best and would one day knock on your doorsteps and that’s what kept Nigeria were we are today. A lot of the people buried six or four feet today in plateau and benue never imagined today in their graves they would be murdered so quickly . That areas 15-20 years ago was one of the most peaceful places in te world. We wish problems to go away without action or plan and it gets worse , white people tackle problems at early stages and society gets better…that’s the big difference. Innocent people are paying taxes in zamfara now to bandits to stay alive and with the way things are going e go reach everyone in Nigeria in the next 15 years unless you are rich Go and check the monthly death rates by violence on the US, UK, India and compare.
