Politics › Re: Cumulative Effective Borrowing By Government Since 2007 by Putindbutt(m): 9:31am On Jul 08, 2025 |
BuharisBoy: For all the noise the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made over the 16 years of People's Democratic Party (PDP) rule, Nigerians are beginning to realize that the real decline began when the APC came to power. A deeper look into the economic and social metrics of Nigeria between 1999 and 2015 under PDP, and from 2015 to 2025 under APC, reveals an uncomfortable truth: the APC's so-called “change” might have been a grand conspiracy to run Nigeria into the ground—possibly to discredit democratic governance, or worse, to benefit a few elites while impoverishing millions.
During the PDP years (1999–2015), Nigeria experienced relative macroeconomic stability. Under President Obasanjo, Nigeria secured debt forgiveness from the Paris Club, and external debt was reduced from over \$30 billion to around \$3 billion. The GDP growth averaged 6–7% annually for most of that era. The naira, while not perfect, was relatively stable—hovering around ₦150 to \$1 by 2015. Inflation was largely in single digits. Petrol was ₦87 per liter. A bag of rice was about ₦8,000–₦10,000. The minimum wage, though low, had more purchasing power.
Fast forward to APC’s 10-year reign (2015–2025), and the economic indices tell a disastrous story. Inflation has skyrocketed, consistently above 20%. The naira has plummeted from ₦197 in 2015 to over ₦1,500 in 2025. A bag of rice now costs ₦80,000. Fuel prices have jumped to over ₦650 per liter. Real wages have crashed, while poverty rates have expanded. Millions of Nigerians are unemployed or underemployed. The GDP growth under APC has averaged less than 2%—barely keeping pace with population growth. Some economists have even referred to this period as a “lost decade.”
Security? Under PDP, Boko Haram was a significant challenge, but under APC, the group mutated into multiple armed factions, with added threats from bandits, kidnappers, and unknown gunmen. Now, nowhere feels safe. Under PDP, a single schoolgirl abduction sparked national outrage and global solidarity (#BringBackOurGirls). Under APC, entire communities vanish and it's just another headlines. What if APC’s rise was never about reforming Nigeria, but about destroying its middle class? What if key actors in the APC project were never committed to national development but to foreign economic interests? A weakened naira makes Nigerian assets cheaper to acquire by foreign corporations. Fuel subsidy removal without local refining capacity appears more like a scam than a solution. And the hardship from their policies keeps citizens too distracted to resist.
Meanwhile, the APC successfully weaponized propaganda, blaming all of Nigeria’s woes on the PDP, while quietly recycling former PDP members into their own fold. Was the APC just a rebranded PDP without vision or competence? Or worse—was it a Trojan horse, designed to sabotage any real progress that was made from 1999 to 2015?
In hindsight, PDP’s 16 years might not have been perfect, but compared to APC’s catastrophic 10 years, they now look like a golden age. The real truth? Making Nigerians believe otherwise. Why are you guys so hypocritical and snake-like?. You were here all through Buhari's tenure, praise singing APC, opening several threads to insults and mock oppositions, attacking Ipobs, PDP, etc. Now, because Buhari is out of power, APC has suddenly become evil, you have been crying up & down since. You guys no dey fear God o, & you dey enter mosque dey go pray five times a day. Judgement day will be very interesting. |

Politics › Notorious Bandit Kingpin, Bello Turji’s Surrender Not Genuine – Security Expert by Putindbutt(op): 8:22am On Jul 08, 2025 |
A counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, has said the reported decision of notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji to surrender and accept peace is motivated by survival, not genuine repentance.
Makama stated this in reaction to a recently circulated video in which Turji expressed willingness to lay down his arms and embrace peace.
The video, which went viral over the weekend, has stirred public speculation regarding the motive behind Turji’s apparent change of heart.
However, Makama in a post on X on Monday said the move was not the result of remorse but a strategic decision following the weakening of Turji’s operational strength.
“Turji is not laying down arms because he suddenly loves peace. He is doing so because his operational capabilities have been severely weakened,” Makama said.
He noted that Turji’s decision followed the death of his key operational commander, Danbokolo, who was reportedly killed during a recent joint operation involving the State Security Services and a local security group known as the Hybrid Forces, which includes members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
According to Makama, Danbokolo was the main force behind Turji’s violent operations, including ambushes, raids, and executions. With his death, Turji’s network reportedly collapsed swiftly, leaving him vulnerable.
“Turji was more of a spokesman. Danbokolo handled the heavy lifting. Once Danbokolo was gone, so was Turji’s swagger,” a security source said.
Sources indicate that the government is still considering how to handle Turji’s offer to surrender.
His potential disarmament is said to be under review, with security forces closely monitoring the situation.
Despite the development, experts have warned that Turji’s surrender alone will not mark the end of banditry in Nigeria’s Northwest, where several other armed groups remain active.
It remains unclear whether the government will grant Turji amnesty, given the scale of atrocities linked to him and his group in the region. https://dailypost.ng/2025/07/07/notorious-bandit-kingpin-bello-turjis-surrender-not-genuine-security-expert-warns/

Lol, like a polygamous man vowing to fight against marriage to multiple women. The reason Atiku made Dubai his second home is because he has married a new wife secretly and hid her in Dubai. Talking about corruption, OBJ would be laughing so hard. If everything works, Atiku should be in same jail room with Nnamdi Kanu for several fraud and scandals. Even his new bedmate, Elrufai said it.

The Kaduna State Government has decided to refund those who bought houses and landed properties of Queen Amina and Alhuda-huda Colleges that were sold by the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement by the Secretary to Kaduna State Government, Dr. AbdulKadir Mu’azu Meyere, the Government said “in fulfilment of its promise to refund those who bought houses at Queen Amina College Kaduna, Alhuda-huda College Zaria and Government Commercial College Zaria, Kaduna State Government will commence payment on Monday, 7th July, 2025”.
Besides, it will be recalled that Governor Sani had revoked all previous sales of institutional houses in those legacy schools for overriding public interest.
Meyere said, “in an earlier statement issued on 22nd April, 2025, Kaduna State Government had pledged that steps were being taken to refund amounts paid in respect of the sold houses as directed by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.”
According to him, “Kaduna State Government is hereby notifying beneficiaries that their cheques will be ready for collection at the Secretariat of the Sale of Non Essential Government Houses, Hassan Usman Katsina House, Kawo, upon presenting the following documents, evidence of payment, a valid means of identification (voter’s cards, National ID card etc), bank details (Bank name, Account number, a Bank Verification Number slip), a recent statement of account and two passport photographs”.
He added that “Kaduna State Government wishes to reiterate its commitment to make the atmosphere within and around schools conducive for learning, in its efforts to boost Human Capital Development.” https://guardian.ng/news/kaduna-govt-to-make-refund-on-landed-properties-el-rufai-sold/

Politics › BRICS Summit: Tinubu Urges Reforms, More Inclusion For Africa by Putindbutt(op): 5:02pm On Jul 07, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday called for a comprehensive reevaluation of global governance, financial structures, and health systems, advocating for a fairer, more inclusive world order that truly reflects the interests of emerging and low-income economies, particularly in Africa.
Speaking at the 17th BRICS Summit of the Global South in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, President Tinubu warned that global challenges like environmental degradation, climate change, and healthcare inequality continue to hinder sustainable development, especially across the African continent.
The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, was Nigeria’s first participation as an official BRICS partner country, following its admission into the bloc on January 17, 2025.
Nigeria joins eight other countries in the new partner framework created at the Kazan Summit in 2024.
Specifically, Nigeria became the ninth partner country of BRICS in January 2025, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. The 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan in October 2024 created the partner-country category.
The Nigerian president, in a statement issued on Monday morning by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, was quoted as having told his fellow leaders that “Africa has contributed the least to global emissions but suffers the most.”
He emphasised that justice, equity, and accessible financing must drive a new global compact, backed by sustainable technology transfer and local ownership of solutions.
President Tinubu aligned Nigeria with the BRICS vision for a more representative global system.
“The next issues are financial restructuring and reevaluation of the global structure,” he said, noting that developing countries must no longer be bystanders in conversations that shape the global future.
He underscored Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to regional and global climate actions, including the African Carbon Market Initiative and the Great Green Wall project.
[b]He also pointed to Nigeria’s Vision 2050 as a blueprint for long-term sustainability, anchored in youth inclusion, climate action, and health equity.
“Nigeria strongly believes in South-South cooperation. We cannot be passive participants in global decision-making on issues like debt relief, climate financing, and healthcare access,” Tinubu declared.
He called for stronger collaboration ahead of COP-30, noting the importance of addressing non-communicable diseases and building resilient health systems globally.
“The BRICS must not only be a bloc for emerging economies but also a beacon for emerging solutions,” he said, championing solidarity, self-reliance, and a shared future rooted in sustainability and prosperity.
Accompanying the president to the summit were Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar and Minister of Finance Mr. Wale Edun.
With its large population and growing economic influence, Nigeria is seen as a natural fit in the evolving architecture of BRICS.
The country’s admission aligns with Brazil’s priorities during its rotating presidency, including the strengthening of South-South cooperation and reform of global governance.
As the world’s sixth-most populous country and one of Africa’s major economies, Nigeria shares convergent interests with other BRICS members. Nigeria plays an active role in strengthening South-South cooperation and reforming global governance, which are top priorities during Brazil’s current presidency. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/07/brics-summit-tinubu-urges-reforms-more-inclusion-for-africa/
