Politics › Under Aregbesola, Nigerians Waited For 2yrs To Get Passport, Today, It Is 2 Week by Putindbutt(op): 7:56pm On Jul 06, 2025 |
Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, is facing renewed public scrutiny over his record in office, following a sharp social media criticism by former presidential aide, Reno Omokri.
Omokri, former aide to ex President Goodluck Jonathan, took to platform X (formerly Twitter) to highlight delays experienced by Nigerians during Aregbesola’s tenure. In a post shared on July 5, 2025, Omokri wrote:“Under Aregbesola as Interior Minister, Nigerians waited as much as two years to get passports due to a passport booklet shortage. Today, Nigerians get their passports in under two weeks.”
The post, which included an image of Aregbesola in his signature maroon uniform, triggered widespread reactions online. Many Nigerians recalled their struggles with the Nigerian Immigration Service during that period, as backlogs and booklet scarcity created long delays in passport issuance.
The controversy is said to come at a sensitive political moment, as Aregbesola recently emerged as the interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition positioning itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While Aregbesola has vowed to help reposition the ADC as a “people-centered political force,” according to a recent Punch report, Omokri’s comments is said to have casted a shadow over his public service record and raise questions about his credibility in championing reform.

Investors eager to fund Lagos-Calabar highway, others – Umahi
The Federal Government has said a number of financial institutions have shown eagerness to participate in the execution of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and similar landmark road projects.
The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, made the disclosure while addressing journalists after inspecting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and some bridges in Lagos.
“I have had meetings with a lot of financial institutions, and they are very eager to participate.
“We are doing everything to complete Section 1 by December and have it approved, and that will open a floodgate for other financial aids.
“One thing that I must commend the President for and, of course, beat my chest and say glory be to God, is that the international funders came and they saw the quantum of the job we are doing.
“That, for me, is a pass mark,” Umahi said.
He said that the recently-inaugurated 30km portion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would not be opened to motorists until completion of an additional 17.47km portion of the Section One, Phase One, of the road project.
“We completed 20km at the beginning, and then we completed 10km,” Umahi said.
He noted that the contractor, Hi-Tech Construction company, was working hard to complete the 17.47km.
Umahi said, “This is what we are working to join, and when we have joined it, if you are travelling from Ahmadu Bello Way to the Lekki Free Zone, then you can use the coastal highway.”
The minister said that the road would be tolled to ensure constant maintenance.
“Whether these roads are tolled or not, they need constant maintenance,” he added. https://punchng.com/investors-eager-to-fund-lagos-calabar-highway-others-umahi/?amp |
Politics › ECOWAS Bank Approves $100m For Lagos-calabar Highway Project by Putindbutt(op): 4:05pm On Jul 06, 2025 |
The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has committed $100 million to support the development of a key section of Nigeria’s Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
This funding covers a 47.7-kilometre stretch, marking Section I, Phase I of the project, which originates from Ahmadu Bello Way in Lagos.
Work on the highway began in March 2024, with Hitech Construction Company Limited appointed as the main contractor.
The announcement was made during EBID’s 92nd Ordinary Session held in Lagos, where the bank outlined a series of development financing commitments amounting to €174 million and $125 million, targeted at infrastructure and social development across the ECOWAS region.
The investment in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is designed to boost intra-regional connectivity by linking nine Nigerian states. It will also enhance access to strategic seaports, support agro-industrial development, and improve logistical networks along Nigeria’s southern corridor. The highway is further expected to contribute to the formation of a regional supply chain, economically empowering coastal communities.
“The bank also approved $100 million in funding for the Lagos-Calabar coastal motorway project in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It said that this project, which spans 47.7 km, would link nine Nigerian states and improve access to seaports and isolated agro-industrial areas. EBID noted that the funding would also contribute to the emergence of a regional value chain to support coastal communities.”
Other EBID-backed initiatives include €50 million earmarked for the establishment and outfitting of six technical and vocational education centres in Togo. These centres aim to provide skills training for up to 3,480 youths annually, focusing on high-demand trades.
In Guinea, the bank allocated €28.9 million to revamp four agricultural high schools, and an additional €95.16 million to build three hydroelectric micro-power plants with a combined generation capacity of 30 megawatts, aiming to expand rural access to renewable energy.
Côte d’Ivoire will benefit from a $25 million facility directed at financing clinker imports by Société de Ciment de Côte d’Ivoire—a move expected to support local cement manufacturing and alleviate raw material shortages in the construction sector.
EBID noted that its latest funding initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 9, which advocates for advancements in industry, innovation, and infrastructure. With these latest disbursements, the bank’s cumulative investment across the West African region has surpassed the $5 billion milestone.
Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, recently disclosed that the Federal Government has signed off on contracts exceeding N3 trillion for multiple sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, extending through Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.
The Lagos segment—Section I—was awarded at N1.068 trillion, with 30 percent of the contract sum already paid.
Section II, which includes multiple bridges and traverses difficult terrain en route to the Dangote Refinery, has been contracted at N1.6 trillion.
Sections III A and III B, covering parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River, were jointly valued at N1.33 trillion.
President Bola Tinubu officially inaugurated the first completed segment of the coastal highway in May 2025, signalling the project’s steady progress. https://www.thecable.ng/ecowas-bank-approves-100m-for-lagos-calabar-highway-project/

In a renewed effort to deny Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists freedom of movement and to restore lasting peace in the North-East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI, under the command of Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, have intensified offensive operations, resulting in significant gains against insurgents.
The latest operations led to the discovery of approximately 60 heavily primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the neutralization of numerous terrorists, and the recovery of assorted weapons and equipment.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovangiya.
According to the statement: “On 3 July 2025, troops conducting clearance operations around Marte and Dikwa general areas discovered a large cache of IEDs at a bridge linking Marte and Dikwa. These explosives, believed to have been planted by terrorists to target civilians and destroy critical infrastructure, were safely recovered, preventing a potential disaster.”
In a related development, troops on a coordinated fighting patrol to Fulatari in Gubio Local Government Area captured a terrorist fighter and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and a large quantity of ammunition.
Another combat team operating in the Mussini area of Ngala Local Government Area engaged insurgents with superior firepower, forcing them to flee. During the pursuit, troops recovered AK-47 rifles, jerrycans of premium motor spirit (PMS), motorcycles, terrorists’ uniforms, and other items.
Similarly, troops conducting offensive operations in the Salekwa area of Mafa Local Government Area made contact with terrorists, neutralizing some while others escaped. During the exploitation of the area, the soldiers recovered additional AK-47 rifles, magazines, and the body of a neutralized terrorist.
Captain Kovangiya stated that the troops’ resilience and effectiveness have earned commendation from the Military High Command. He added that the operations were carried out with the support of the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI and in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders.
“Troops continue to conduct operations in high spirits to restore peace and facilitate socio-economic activities across the North-East,” the statement concluded. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/07/troops-capture-large-cache-of-terrorists-ieds-weapons-after-killing-scores-in-borno/

Politics › ADC: Old Wolves In New Agbada – Charly Boy Rubbishes Coalition To Unseat Tinubu by Putindbutt(op): 5:36pm On Jul 04, 2025 |
Popular singer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, known by his stage name, Charly Boy has rubbished the alignment of opposition leaders to form coalition to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.
DAILY POST reports that a coalition of political heavyweights from the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party and aggrieved members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC have come together ahead of the 2027 election.
The opposition leaders led by former Senate President, David Mark had adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC as official platform to wrestle power from Tinubu in 2027.
DAILY POST reports that while the development stimulated jubilation across the country as opposition built up again, some Nigerians are skeptical about the mission of the opposition figures.
A popular Nigerian activist, Omoyele Sowore had in a statement on Wednesday distanced himself from the movement, describing the opposition figures as corrupt.
Similarly, Charly Boy in a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday night, said members of the coalition are the same “people that sank this country are suddenly singing redemption songs”.
According to the entertainer, the mission is not about Nigeria but their selfish desires for power, stressing that “it’s just old wolves in the new agbada”.
“Coalitions are forming, but let’s not pretend that every alliance is progress. Sometimes, it’s just old wolves in new agbada. “Are they fighting for you, or fighting to sit where their enemies used to sit?
“Are they shouting “enough is enough” because they’ve changed…Or because they’re no longer the ones benefitting? “We don’t just need new names. We need new values, new visions, and people with the guts to live by them.
2027 is not about revenge. It’s about rescue”, he wrote. https://dailypost.ng/2025/07/04/adc-old-wolves-in-new-agbada-charly-boy-rubbishes-coalition-to-unseat-tinubu/

Because you know it was a propaganda against the minister and there's no fact to back it up , you then embark on clownery.
