arushiuga:Traffic lights are not very useful in cities or parts of a city where there is huge traffic. Instead, such places work towards the continuous flow of traffic by construction of complicated highways and bridges, the types you only find more in Lagos than Abuja. |
Abagworo:Of course I gave SA, Jo'burg especially, the higher vantage in my first statement. You can check it. But that doesn't mean they are not comparable by any means, it'll always be irrational to say so. Sandton city is probably the best place in Jo'burg. It's really exquisite and beautiful. But Banana Island is luxurious too and doesn't bear much semblance with the rest of Lagos. I really love Capetown and Jo'burg though. Capetown and Jo'burg.

Abagworo:Now this is a better approach which I can engage intelligently. Not making irrational statements like the worst city in SA is better than the best in Nigeria. To the point now Whether it's provided for by the government or by the private sector or individuals, infrastructure is infrastructure once it is available. Many businesses and residences on the Island meet their power needs themselves so the issue of power not being their cannot really hold. If Power infrastructure was lacking on the island, Lagos would definitely not cash in from that place at all as the best revenue source. The only difference here is, the money that could have been saved or spent on other things to grow the businesses further by are being spent on the provision of that particular infrastructure. So it's not an issue of the lack of infrastructure, but the wrong utilization of input. The Island has one of the best connected roads within it in Africa! The population makes it look inadequate but when you compare it in absolute terms with other African cities, it is sure fairing well. Of course, water transport in Lagos is better simply as a result of its absence in many other African cities. Rail and airport, Jo'burg and Capetown have it here. The reason I support the proposed new airport in Lekki because Lagos as a big metropolis can itself handle three international airports. When talking about infrastructure generally in Lagos as compared to other African cities, it isn't all about the absence of it, but it's inadequacy for the population it hosts. And that's what gives Lagos the poor rankings by international media. So the statement that Lagos (Islands) cannot at all be compared to Jo'burg (say Sandton) or Nairobi is simply irrational. "Lagos is well interconnected by roads"
|
Abagworo:Your statement is definitely far from rational and thank goodness, you personalized it, so no biggie. I compared only Lagos Islands (Lagos, VI, Ikoyi, Lekki, Banana) with Jo'burg and justified why I did so with salient points. If you can't address the points like the other lady attempted, please swerve. |
OBAFEMIawolowo:Lol I actually have, but I wouldn't wanna argue much about Nigeria's second tier cities as there is generally little difference among them. Lagos and Abuja are the only two that are clearly more developed than the rest. Our will argument would just be fraught with differences in perspectives and maybe sentiments. |
OBAFEMIawolowo:I think that's an unfair description of the city because it has a fair share of its serene and well developed parts. |
Millerz:At least, while you excuse yourself out of this, you got my point half-way, so that's good to know. Even Soweto which used to be a city on its own is now part of greater Johannesburg. So we can be brave enough to go all the way by including those parts in our comparison to Lagos State, so that we get a clearer perspective of things. In that way, (Greater) Johannesburg would no longer be worth the hype and with Lagos contending very favorably. The Cosmopolitan nature of cities is indeed part of what makes a city better, so long as there is enough infrastructure to cater to it. And it's one of the indices for conceiving a developed, urban and diverse city. Abuja has a lot to attain to truly be compared with Lagos. |
OBAFEMIawolowo:Considering the condition you attached with your statement, then it's probably true. Enugu is serene, well laid out with good roads and less people. But Enugu's position would change dramatically if OPs criteria are put keenly in perspective. Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Ibadan and even Benin are generally more cosmopolitan and developed than Enugu. |
Millerz:It's true that arguing with insults is a low way to go, but to be very honest, you were not making sense. Lagos is a megalopolis. More like a city of many cities. You do know that just like Enugu is a city within Enugu State, Lagos state has a city too named Lagos. And those are the parts that make up the islands. The only difference between it and the former is Lagos (the islands) is not the capital city of Lagos State, but Ikeja - another city. So it is definitely proper to pick just the islands and compare with Nairobi, Cairo and Johannesburg which all are within greater Provinces too in their respect. Now, Lagos Island is sure more developed, and still developing more than most African cities, except maybe Johannesburg. And even Johannesburg will be child's play when the Eko Atlantic, another city within Lagos State comes to completion. So in the real sense of it, Lagos is not only more cosmopolitan than Abuja, it's economy is more sizeable, and infrastructure more developed than the later.

kernel504:You are a dummy for shifting the goal post to think it'll pass unnoticed. You claim its Buhari's emergence as the president and subsequently, his "fooling of the Yorubas" that made them start supporting restructuring. A poster comes to say that they clamored for restructuring even before Buhari's emergence as the president as with the confab but you are here crying Aburi whatever. Clearly, you are just straw-clutching with a reasoning full of baseless emotions that I wouldn't engage further. And you can only wish your almamater were half as great as the OAU. |
kernel504:I searched through the thread to see your response to this, you hypocrite, but I wasn't disappointed. Maybe you guys should learn to think tactically rather than an outpouring of putrid emotions. yemaldo: |
MeanChris:Exactly. The time he should have spent on browsing pictures of your cities that can match Ibadan, even though he'd still be wasting time. But at least we would have credited him for effort. |
It is true that it has improved in some places, I saw someone say same on Twitter in the morning. It has been on throughout today here too. But there is nothing to really celebrate yet. This is Nigeria where everything can change (the Apc type) within a short period. |
Lol. Putting up this kind of thread at a time like this shows how dull you really are too. Even if you wanted to seek opinion on the topic, shouldn't you have left it completely open for debate rather than take sides already? Do you know how many first born will see this and probably use it against you in the coming Mr. Nairaland contest you are canvassing for? Who are your handlers again? Well, on the issue, the reverse is the case because in most African homes, the first born is usually the 'assistant parent' with a few exceptions. |
saiNDAvengers:You get eye defect if that's all you see. But I'm not sorry for you sha. People with good 'sight' would see a normadic ugandan who sought and found economic solace in the more prosperous West. (I do not expect ugandan ipobs to see it that way cuz they are blind and undescerning by heredity) By the way, I thought ipods don't stay in Abeokuta, only in Lagos no man's land. And you all were rolling on floor over the other case shouting Yoruba. But the whole world now knows those that import criminality to the west from their erosion region ![]() |

I may do tribal slur for fun online but when it comes to a matter of life and death, people should be careful. Some of these people MAY be innocent. More so, death penalty for drug trafficking is very inhumane. I pray for a miracle for them. |
Nigerians and their funny ways of generalizing sha. That filter is used by both sexes on snapchat. Has nothing to do with gay or anything. If you don't like it, then it's your choice. No point calling it's users names. By the way, if you follow Davido on snapchat, you would have seen him use the filter before. That makes him gay right? Smh |
ibadanfinest:Lmao. Me I will help you mention am. Na comeandmarry or whatever. First of, I agree some OAPs try too hard to speak phonetics. But definitely not all. That same beat fm in Ibadan that he is badmouthing has the highest number of following on Twitter @THEBEAT979FM and over 100k likes on Facebook only second to splash with a small gap. Ibadan radio listeners are sophisticated. So you have specialized stations like IBR for business and Inspiration fm for family. Pidgin radios like Naija fm and Lagelu. Mainstream broadcast like splash, fresh and space. Lagos is the oga. And the radio stations can never be too much. It allows for wide choice range for listeners. So it's good development. I love beat fm Lagos too as well as Urban96fm. So that man should quit hating. |
ayzTIGER:And normadic flatheaded ugandans are here to defend their corrupt and wasteful daughter. |
Of course! This just proves which single ethnic group is the most influential in Nigeria ![]() |
waternogetenemy:dude you talk too much. Mostly thrash though. Carry your biafra and leave the west. Simple |
