FROM THE LEAERSHIP OF THE UNION
(As At 3:50pm today,21st August, 2014)
OUR UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT AT IT AGAIN!
Students that make up the leadership of the Union
have been served rustication letters from the
University for 4 semesters for protesting against
hike in fees.
This rustication order however has been
suspended and they are hereby on probation in
the University.
Some other students have also been served
letters.
This is a clear indication that the struggle against
hike in fees has taken another dimension.
Great IFE Beware!!!

BAMIDELE Oludare J.

ICT TRAINING FOR FRESH STUDENTS

The pivotal role of the university in producing the levels of
human capital required for countries to succeed in the
globalised ‘information economy’ has been expressed in terms
of higher education’s ability to provide the labour market with
information-aware and information-adept graduates.
Developments in multimedia, increased communications and
other ICT innovations are obviously key components of the
information economy. Thus, it is imperative for the Obafemi
Awolowo University that prides itself as the leading ICT
University in Nigeria to empower her students.

The ICT training for fresh undergraduate students aims to
impart basic ICT skill into the students right from the onset of
their educational career in OAU. New ICT initiatives are being
introduced to the University. These include: student e-mail
services, smart classrooms, multimedia driven lecture delivery,
intra-university voice communication ‘Keedu’, increasing online
engagement, course registration, TCC project, e-assessment,
inter-university online collaboration (OAU and Unilag) and
techno-preneurship. These are in addition to various existing
services such as online meetings and interviews via
telepresence and videoconference, advanced search, e-library,
internet access etc.

These services require basic ICT skill to navigate and derive
maximum benefit. The purpose of this training is therefore to
educate the newly admitted students on Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) as they will continue to apply
the skills acquired from the training throughout their stay in
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and after their first degree
education. The training attracts its own ‘Certificate of
Participation’ therefore eliminating the need for the students
to patronise road side computer schools after graduation in
desperate search for certificate of computer training which
today is a pre-requisite for job placement in most
organisations.

The first batch of the training commences this session. Fresh
undergraduate students are advised to download the
timetable for the training here.

xtian234: Good evening......great ones, pls i want to ask us a question which has been bordering me,but before i do that i would actually begin by narrating my ordeals as a direct entry student.
Am a young guy of about 24 yrs,i obtained my national diploma from a federal polytchnic at the south eastern Nigeria with distinction in food technology in 2011.As a loyal and humble srudent i was adviced by my lecturer friends who finished from oau to opt for oau via direct entry ,so after my 1yr compulsory I.T in 2012 ,i purchased a jamb direct entry form which i chose oau as my most preferred instutition ,i sent my transcript and followed it up to the school and other procedures in the end my data was not foewarded to the dept by the admin for selection, finally i lost d admission .Then i reported to my dept. at ife to actually no the reason ,there i was adviced by the Hod to engage my myself with something and reaply for nxt session.i had no option dan to heed to the call and reaplied for 2013/2014 session only for the lists to be out yet i have not seen my name, In other not to loose out i bought the third form for nxt session opting for university of ibadanwhile anticipating for oau's last list at the resumption of her indefinite closure. what an emotional trauma...... Nevertheless, amiable collegues haven gone through u.i de process i want to know if they admit through catchment area( like oau)or they just admit on merit because going by the facts i gathered they also consider o level which i know am qualified on that aspect. pls i need answer, advice and its likes to enable me acertain my chaces with GOD inclusive thanks as i anticipate your positive reply....
In fact....just speechless.... my eyes wanna get red n water abt to drip... u see when something like this happens, u need to open up to pple quickly like getting back to dat lecturer's friend or holding on for dat HOD assistnc...but nevertheless...I want to bliv there wil b a silver lining to ur misfortunes...U can put forward to UI n I bliv it wil be well becoz for a dept like Food Sc n Tech, there is no comppetitn at all...be careful in registratn n all procedures.....n mind u...keep chckin d Faculty office at interval, located opp UI CBT centre ...thnx.

ganganawuj: gud day pals nd I hope ur day went well?D latest info I've got to share wiv d aouse again dis tym is all abt d list(s) we've all bn anxiously waiting 4.Guys I've got to tel ya all dat there's no tensn whatsoever concerning d release of d list(s).D reason y I'm saying dis is all because I got a substancial report frm my bro who was on campus yztday to c d latest abt his nysc posting.I sharply made use of d opportunity to help me go to d dean's office(education) nd help me gather d latest info frm d sect.abt d release of d D.E,he did jst dat for me nd called my phone immediately to give me feedback. He said d sect.told him dat its true dat d list has bn 4warded to Abuja nd dat they 're jst waiting to receive it back.He said d woman told him dat its nt only d faculty of edu.dat is having dis prob/delay but dat d prob/delay is peculiar with oda faculties too nd so we shld jst wait till jamb get back to dem wiv d list(s).He said he asked for d sect's no so as to keep intouch wiv her but dat d women responded dat she's sowie dat she can't give her no out again cos she already gave it out to lots of stdnts nd dat they've bn disturbing her criously to ask her if d list(s) 've bn released. So my point here is dat we all need to put more efforts in our prayers to God Almighty to pls grant us favour as we all await d release of our names.Pls if u bliv ur name will b among d names dat will b released kindly say 'OAU I'm here'.Pls don't fail to pass gud info like dis one.God bless us all,one love my fellow bro/sis.
