Okay thanks

Yes, New Brunswick has a WhatsApp group for Nigerians living in the province, but you can only join when you arrive in Canada.

I will try to ask the admin if someone still in Nigerian can also join, but I doubt it.

Please is there any WhatsApp group for students going to New Brunswick?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Queenmama03(f): 6:28pm On Jul 13, 2021
I'm wondering same because I only paid first term school fees. I guess that should work with SOA for the balance.

makano:
I don't know about now, but as at early 2020.. I know of some ma peeps who didn't pay a dime for school fees prior to getting to Canada and they were allowed entry into Canada... So far you have enough money in your SOA to pay your full school fees and take care of yourself all though your stay in Canada, that shouldn't pose a problem for you.... Anyone that has been in this condition of recent can also share their experience.. Peace

Thanks for this awesome landing gist. If you don't mind i have a few questions. I noticed you still did a three-day stop over despite being vaccinated, I would like to know if this is necessary?

Also you talked about a refund, please can you explain what that was for.

Hopefully I'll be fully vaccinated before travelling and I'm just wondering if it's still required to make the hotel reservation at my port of entry.

Also @Lianna2020 and any other person who has answers to my questions I'll really appreciate your input. Thanks

Hello All, It would be a disservice if I did not update the thread on my landing gist so here it is:

Some Background Information

Although I'm not the one that originally asked the question, I'm so glad to come accross this information. I've been racking my head about this accommodation issue. I guess I'll just do Airbnb temporarily until I get something long term. Thanks for the info.

Vancouver is expensive so might be cheaper in Ontario or better still stay with your family to save cost

Noted. Thank you so much.

DDO97:

The will deduct the naira equivalent when the bank has locked an official exchange rate for you.
Concerning the expiry date, in my case they processed the payment a day after the expiry date given by CIBC. The next day(Friday) I got debited the naira equivalent . On Thursday I got an acknowledgment mail by CIBC that payment had been received.

In your case, you can visit the bank to know how far with the payment and they will be in the best position to tell you if you need to create another invoice.

For subsequent transactions have the contact of the account officer that would be processing your Form A. It will help in knowing how far they have gone with your transaction.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Queenmama03(f): 11:43pm On Jun 30, 2021
Thanks a lot Shupy, I totally get it now.

shupy:

Actually you don't need to print another 1. Flywire and western union also have a 3-day deadline for their invoices too. The validity is referring to the exchange rate. The payment is still going to be received. Someone was having the same concern not too long ago. Payment was initiated after validity period of the invoice. Even if your bank reaches out to you concerning the validity, insist they proceed with the payment.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by Queenmama03(f): 6:49pm On Jun 30, 2021
Actually the bank will pay in USD but deduct the naira equivalent from my account (please correct me if I'm wrong). I believe I've come accross persons who have paid with their naira account, I think the only problem with this method is that it takes longer but since I'm not in a hurry I wasn't bothered but its this deadline email that is making me confused.
I guess I'll just do another one and take to the bank on Monday.

fejiromich:
I don’t think you can pay with naira oh.. it has to be from a dollar account in your name... as for the deadline expiring, if it does, just fill out the form again and they will create new details for you to pay with and a new deadline...
And it’s a direct transfer, like you are transferring from one of your accounts to another, it takes about 24hrs or less to reflect if you do the transfer from your bank here before 11...

My people! Please I have a question about this CIBC student pay. I took the payment instruction to the bank this week but I'm yet to be debited. However I just received a notification from CIBC that I need to complete the payment by tomorrow. So I'm just wondering if I should ignore since I've already initiated the process at the bank.
I'd appreciate anyone who has an idea on how this works. I'm paying with my naira account. Thanks

Nice one Lianna. Please how many days are you supposed to quarantine in Toronto before proceeding to your final destination? And how many days of quarantine will that be in total?

Lianna2020:
Soft landing gist
I booked Ethiopian airline for 1:40pm.
I said my final goodbyes and moved to the airport. I got there by 9:30 thinking I’m late because of the story I read here as per queue but there wasn’t any.
They didn’t allow my husband to enter and I had to tip them 500.
We proceeded to where they were suppose to check my bag but the woman asked for money n we moved to declare agricultural product, I had just one bag and I paid 2,000.

Next was to get my boarding pass. My bag was 43kg and so didn’t need to pay but paid 1000 to wrap my Ghana must go that had my foodstuffs.

I was asked for my passport , enrollment letter , arrive can , hotel for quarantine and COVID-19test result.(everything was printed out so was easy to find).

Everything was so smooth until the man said my covid 19 go soon expire by the time I reach .
Na that time I wan cry , pe village people u must show yourself o.
I waited for 30 minutes plus, the sneakers self pain me join , I come Dey frown face, the old man slow join, come Dey read bible abi wetin to show my covid go expire. I sha pretended and maintained my calm.

After series of back and forth, I was allowed to move to where we have the computer so I can scan my pp.

Then I was issued my yellow card where I have to fill my form and my boarding pass . That’s how one man said let me help you fill your form , olodo me allowed him, when he wrote my first name then nairaland tip hit pe, this man wants money like this o. I told him, don’t worry o, I go fill am, I filled it myself and when I was about to return his biro, he said find joy for your brother now, chai I said to myself , upon say I don read landing gist here back to back , I still looseguard. I sha gave him 500 naira.

I moved to eat and told my hubby to take all naira as e don finish , pe no more tipping then moved to final e boarding gate where we have the immigration officers.
First officer checked and asked for tip.by that time no more naira as I wouldn’t have thought , uniform people go want tip .I gave him 1 dollar and he said just one ? I said sorry o.
I was now directed to the second person where he checked and asked my my Canadian address and Nigerian address, I gave my Airbnb addrsss and number and did my fingerprint and he asked for tip too before stamping my pp. I gave him 1 dollar n apologized that I didn’t think I’d need to pay in here hmmm.
Then final final checks again, by that time I don tire , they checked my handbag and saw dried meat wey I wan Dey munch small small, the woman said I don see exhibit , settle your girl, for my mind, u no see shishi but I go sha giv u because na Poe Dey my mind like this.

Luckily I saw 1,000, I gave her and was seated for my flight .
We boarded 13:00and moved around 2:00 against 1:40.

I thought WiFi was free but na only WhatsApp he work for so had to buy WiFi so I can watch my Korean film but WiFi was limited too so ended up watching nothing but was thankful I could chat, maybe it was the WiFi package I took. Their food was terrible sha but I had to eat , dried beef came to my rescue.

We landed Addis Ababa 20:49pm , thank God I had someone directing me as I no sabi where to where .
After all checks ,I was asked for my pp, covid 19 test result, and booked hotel and I was allowed in .

We left for Dublin from Addis around 11:pm and it was a smooth ride, when I read in-house music, I had thought it will be a cool jam coming from one of those vent up there but no it was one boring set of songs you have to listen to(sad).

I had three seats to myself as no one was there so I was able to stretched n lie down well.
By all means download movies and music, iPhone do me strong thing o, not even Netflix . I was now waiting for WiFi atleast let me chat now , that’s how the hostess said no WiFi (cries). Boredom pro max .
Had to manage the dry songs n watch few interesting movies.

Then I was given declaration form , I kuku didn’t understand most of what they wanted but I sha filled something . The most confusing thing for me was the time difference, my time kept changing as weather chai.

We were served rice with chicken , Na so I no fit chop am because hmmm, I like eba and afang and so everything was strange. I told them to give me the dry bread n butter n water.

We got to Dublin around 6:35 am and some passengers dropped and we waited for 45 mins still seated for refilling n all that. We got to Toronto around 8:am(again time difference).

I filled my covid form on the system provided n was given a slip, proceeded to immigration, I was asked for passport , loa and school fees receipt, then he gave my study permit to me and went further by telling me about the 20hrs allowed for work .

I was there waiting for more question but none , I also waited for welcome to Canada , rather he said enjoy your stay and that was it.

Moved to take my connecting flight to Vancouver, that’s how they told me I must quarantine in Toronto, told them my mandatory hotel stay was booked in Vancouver and my flight would soon move , them no hear , had to cancel my booking and rebook in Toronto .

Please no matter where you going in Canada , as far as you stopping at Toronto, reserve your hotel in Toronto, that’s the only way they will allow you move further.

Did my covid test and was given a test kit to retest a week after and then we were taken to our hotel . Currently quarantining at Toronto before moving to my final destination.

For all PPR hopeful , I wish everyone nothing but good news.
Amen.

Okay thanks a lot.

Akannitommy:
Hi,

Congrats on your visa. How long it takes depends on the queue, the complexity of each matter and most importantly the CBSA officers in charge. It took several hours (6-hrs I think) for me back in December 2020 because there were over a thousand people arriving at Montreal airport same day and aboust same time. For some it took minutes from the time they clear the preliminaries to getting their study permit issued.

I think things are relaxed now unlike the peak of travel season when I landed but as covid-19 restrictions are relaxed, the summer wear on and fall approach, travel season will pick up once again.

Cheers

Hello all! I migrated to this thread after approval of my study permit grin Please I'm just wondering, for people who have to do a stop at Montréal or Toronto before getting to their final destination in Canada, at what point is the study permit given? Is it at your first port of entry or when you get to your final destination?

Typically how long does it take to get things sorted out at the airport (I.e immigration and all) ? please I need this info to make travel plans, thanks.

Clarified. Thank you so much

impeccablerose:
I think the naira equivalent option is only available for card payments (not sure). The limits on cards with Nigerian banks might not allow you pay up to a certain amount.
But if what you want to pay is tuition fee, select the bank transfer option and your currency choice (CAD or USD), then generate a payment instruction which you can take to your bank with other required documents for Form A.

Hi, i don'tknow about other banks but i did it successfullylast month with CIBC, only challenge was getting USD in my domiciliary account.
Apparently with ALL Nigerian banks you can only transfer a minimum of 5000 USD, if the money in your account was cash deposited in the last 30 days but you can do any amount if it was a wire transfer.
Go to the CIBC website, select the student GIC, And generate the USD to CAD exchange rate, it will be locked for 20 minutes for u to fill out the form. The rate will expire after 20 minutes. You will be asked for international passport and LOA. Then CIBC will send you an account number to pay into takes like 1-2 working days, print it out and use it to fill out the forms. After the transfer 2 to 3 working days after the transfer you will get an investment advice.
N:B the money transfer to CIBC must come from the same name account

Yes you can start the renewal process now, the earlier the better. Then update IRCC when it's renewed.

Good Morning my wonderful people in the house trust we are all doing great. Please I have a question that requires urgent attention. My international passport that I used to apply for study permit will expire on April 06, 2022, as I’m still awaiting for my PPR to drop. I saw on one of the approval letters here that Canada does not issue visa beyond the expiring date on your passport after seen it, I decided to renew my own as it is left few months to the expiring date. Is it advisable to renew it now or not?

Thanks
