The university i applied to invited me for an interview I'm just wondering what to expect.

Joyousgem:

Are you asking about universities conducting interviews before offering admission or IRCC conducting visa interviews for study permits?

Please has anyone been invited for an online interview after applying for master's? I'm just wondering what to expect. I'll really appreciate your ideas. Thanks

Hi, please how were you able to tackle this issue? I'm in a similar situation. Were you required to get an Affidavit?

mikaj:
Hello,

Please the first name on my birth certificate is Chukwuemeka while that of every other document ( international passport, nim, school certificate, local gov etc) i have is Emeka.

I am at the documentation stage for canada migration thus i would like to know if it will affect me?

Will i need to get an affidavit?

Where can i get it?

How much would it cost.

Thanks in advance.

Wow! Yours is truly one of the best stories I have seen here. Indeed what God cannot do does not exist. I tap into this testimony. Many congrats!! May Canada favour you.

Inioluwa1:
Good day everyone, LONG POST ALERT (But believe me when I say it is supposed to be longer)
I have been a silent and longsuffering reader of this thread, actively reading since like Part 14 or 15.
On Tuesday the 9th of February 2021, I got the much-awaited PPR!
This is my gist:
December 2019, I reignited my dream to go to Canada. I genuinely wanted a career change from Law to HR. I finished with a 2:2 (Second Class Lower) in both Law and my first degree in English (I’m a young old man – 27 going to 28), and a 2:1 (Second Class Upper) from Law School. It was good enough to get me a decent job in Nigeria but the reality is stark and rather disappointing (Nigerian Lawyers dey suffer… but that is gist for another day).
With deep research, I chose to make the career switch, starting with paid online course which bagged me a diploma in Human Resources. I took this with hopes of one day becoming a specialist with my background in Labor Laws and Employment Legislation, by God’s grace. It was a big and tall dream. My target job and related field was and is increasingly always in Top 3 in-demand and top paid jobs in Canada. But we all know man proposes and God blesses as He wills.
I initially started off with interest in Express Entry under the FSW, but the impediment was my years of foreign work experience - less than a year. I wrote my IELTS and passed with 8.0. Overall Band Score, did my evaluation with WES (getting a transcript from Nigerian institutions is a task I wouldn’t wish on my enemy) but the CRS score was still too low. The only way to boost is was to effectively be fraudulent and risk a five-year ban. No, that was too much of a risk. I was advised by an acquaintance to try study route. How? I had no knowledge of it and I didn’t graduate with 2:1 that I could try Masters. I did my research and applied to two schools for a Business Diploma in Human Resources (I was adamant I wanted Saskatchewan for “personal” reasons.) and got admission offer into Great Plains College, Swift Current. This was EIGHT months after I started my Canada plans. I dumped EE for study with age not really being on my side as I intended to use my mother as the sole sponsor (Salary was nothing to write home about) for an ordinary diploma… me, a graduate with two university degrees, NYSC, and a qualified Lawyer. The odds were heavily and massively stacked against me. I waited and waited and waited and it seemed the world was passing me by and I wasn’t making progress. I broke down many times and kept my sincerity in my relationship with God even in my imperfection.
Nairaland and this thread is a big blessing. I got so much insight from being humble enough to learn from everyone.
My Application Timeline goes thus,
- Applied Online: October 6, 2020
- Biometrics Request: October 7, 2020
- Biometrics Completed: October 9, 2020
- NSE Additional Document Request (MyBankStatement Cert): November 24, 2020
- Upfront Medical after waiting and not getting request: November 25, 2020
- Medical Updated to Passed: December 2, 2020
- NSE Additional Document Uploaded: December 2, 2020
- NSE Additional Document Received: December 4, 2020
- Eligibility Review Started: December 4, 2020
- Deferred January Admission to September and informed IRCC with the new Acceptance documents via webform and mails to the three Nairobi e-mails.
- Requested GCMS Notes: January 28, 2021
- PPR and BVL and GCMS Notes all dropped: February 9, 2021
A total of FOUR months and 3 days passed and EVERY SINGLE DAY was excruciating. I prayed, fasted, and made covenants with God. I dipped into depression more than once… He gave me Jeremiah 29: 11 and I prayed for favour every night before I slept and every morning before I opened my eyes, I reminded God of His promises in His word. I got my Joy back even before the miracle happened. I was instructed to do what Otunba, lekiboboe and especially Awys did in their various posts like https://www.nairaland.com/6321900/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/228#98846426 and it worked! I am grateful to Blavkmaann , your posts gave me hope and cheered me up and FrankRobbn1 you’re a blessing. I can’t mention everyone but you’ve all inspired me.

i. Sponsor’s International Passport data page
j. Certificate of Occupancy of sponsor’s property
k. Employment/Work Identity Card of Sponsor
l. Bank Investment Account worth 3.04M Naira

NOTE: When I got the NSE Request for a Mybankstatement Cert, I initially sent series of webforms and mails that I don’t want to do because I was seeing $CAD 30,000 minimum when we barely had half! I was led to submit it with a balance of 3.6M Naira (having already paid $CAD 8,500 deposit) because upon reading the letter again, it said “Proof of Financial Support A mybankStatement certificate showing sufficient funds for your studies for at least 6 months and 12 months of banking history”, which mean (to my new understanding) half of the requirement for a year’s sufficient funds… English can be hard.
Let me not bore you. I hope and trust I have been able to restore someone’s faith here. Don’t be moved by what you see (even on this forum, I saw people with over ten times of what my mother has and even being fully-funded and what not, not getting approved, I’m not despising anyone - God forbid, just keep the faith and DO YOUR HOMEWORK well, God cannot be mocked.), your joy is key – don’t lose it, keep busy and don’t stay idle - depression sets in faster then, a delay can never be a denial.
I’ll be resuming September 2021. Let me stop here, it has ended in praise!

Yes but I applied for masters in economics which is cheaper and more related to my undergraduate degree.

Blessing456:
hi @Queenmama Are your interest in finance?and are you applying to any school in canada this fall?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 18 by Queenmama03(f): 10:41am On Jan 21, 2021
Msc finance in usask is a very competitive course. Your GMAT score must be really high forget that 500 aim for 650 upwards. Have you taken GMAT? If not that should be your next step. Also check the deadline I'm pretty sure they have stopped accepting application for September 2021. I know this because Msc finance was my first choice and I did my research properly. But please still go though the university website. Every information you need is there.

Makah00:
hello sir, I’ve picked a school - university of Saskatchewan that offers masters in finance which is 2 years . These are the documents they are requesting
-language proficiency requirement
-minimum score of 500 on gmat/gre
-contact three referee
I) letter of recommendation
II) two referees. Must be academic contacts
III) third may be academic or professional
What should I do next

Please what exchange rate did you use, is it the black market or official? And is it necessary to show the VO where you got your conversion rate ?

awys:

I calculated my tuition fees+10k living expenses+3k extra to the exchange rate as at when I applied so this was 24kcad+ this amount was in my own account as my POF then I also presented my sponsor accounts too.

Dear Gurus, Please I need your advise on how eligible or my chances of getting a Canadian Study Visa

I am a married woman with kids. I have a BSc in Economics (good 2:1)and an ICAN holder. I have more than 6 years work experience. I currently work with a multinational company. I wish to study Masters in Economics. I currently have close to 7m in my naira account and would fund my study myself.

My worries now is I don't know if the 7m will be enough for me if I apply alone and later apply for my kids and hubby to join me during my study
Also, I don't want to stay far away for too long, so I don't know how quick the visa for my hubby and kids can be processed once I get mine.My hubby does his own business and a landed property to show home ties. I have no travel history and have applied to 2 low tuition universities, still expecting admission.

Am I good to go or do I wait till I can add more funds?

Hi, we're in similar situation. I also have a degree in Economics and have applied for a Masters in Economics. I'm just hoping I'll get funding to reduce the burden of POF. As for hubby and kids I'll worry about that when i get there. I advice you do same too, just focus on building your POF if you can and pray for the best outcome with your application. It will end in praise for us.

Unless it is requested, either as admission condition or application requirement, you don't need to send. Some schools are actually accepting electronic copy from the University as sufficient due to Covid-19 wahala.

Okay thanks

Happy new year house! Please for those of you that got admissions how did you go about sending your transcript. Did you wait for the school to request the original copy or you just sent it after applying?

I know you can upload a soft copy during application but eventually the school will request for a copy from your school if offered admission. Please when did you start processing it. I'm just trying to save time. Thanks.

One more thing. Is there any bank account indicated on the EOR form to which one makes the transfer?

Thank you

Yes a bank account is indicated.

Thank you for your comment.

Pls how did you apply for the remark? I'm thinking of doing so but I don't have my hard copy of the result yet and also don't know how much it costs and how to pay for the remark.

Can one apply for remark without first collecting the hard copy?

Also, is submission online/to an email or must one go and submit to their office in person.

Pls how did you go about yours?

Thank you.

When you receive your result (hard copy) it’ll come with an EOR form. The instructions are also there. All you need to do is fill the form indicating which sections you want to be remarked, scan and send to the email provided including a proof of payment (you can do a transfer). You’ll get a response within three weeks. It costs 27,000 but if your scores change you’ll get a refund.

Well done, you did very well for a one week preparation. Pls what did u use to prepare. I am writing soon

Hi Omamaramma,

I mainly used road to IELTS just to familiarize myself with the test. Ielts Liz was really helpful as well. I wrote GRE the previous week before my ielts so I had enough preparation for writing and reading. As for speaking just get someone to do a mock test with. They should ask you ielts sample interview questions so that you get comfortable with talking with an interviewer. Also try not to lose concentration during the listening section. Overall the exam is easy don’t stress much about it.

Hello

The plain rule is that you should have your 1 year tuition fee + at least 10,000 cad for your 1 year living expense.

But they might expect you to show more money if you’re self sponsored.

For your baby you would need an additional 4,000 cad or 5,000 cad if the school is in Quebec.

It’s also not just about demonstrating the fund, you need to show the fund will continue to be available throughout your studies.

Best wishes

Ok,

I wouldn't want to conclude u av checked all skools in Canada offering Masters in Economics, cos it's very Essential for you to Contact/Secure a Supervisor

Visit the Link below , you gonna see
Schools (over 40 schools) offering Masters in Economics or Economics Related programs, Google them and explore their Websites and Economics Department
https://www.universitystudy.ca/search-programs/?k=Economics&program_level_merged=Master%27s+degree&program_language=ENGLISH

am sure if u explore the skools, u should see substantial amount of skools that requires u to get a Supervisor Prior to Applying

Make sure the schools are DLI and offers PGWP (Post Graduate Work Permit), the link below will help u on that,

Hi Queen,

What is the name of this your intended course?

Okay I will contact them as you advised. Thank you.

Chocs:
Hello Queenmama03

If the course/ school is the type that gives everyone their prospective supervisors automatically then you can apply without contacting. But if it is the type that says a supervisor must eventually accept you before you can be admitted, then please make contact with supervisors and try to secure someone except you don’t mind the application fees going to waste if something goes wrong.

You can read the admission requirements and see if it’s stated there. It usually is. If it’s not, you can send the program an email to inquire.

Best wishes

Hello all
Please I intend to apply for a thesis-based masters program in Canada, but for my intended course most of the schools I’ve searched don’t require securing a supervisor prior to applying. Given this information Is it still necessary to contact faculty members? Because I see a lot of people doing this. Please kindly advise.
