As the protagonists of Biafra intensify efforts for the realisation of their secession agenda, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, described the move as a dead agitation borne out of sheer ignorance and error of judgment. The former President said those involved in the current agitation for Biafra were embarking on hopeless and futile exercise, which no serious-minded Nigerian should engage in. Obasanjo who spoke in Abuja during a roundtable discussion organized by Nextier Advisory, a public sector advisory firm spearheaded by Patrick O. Okigbo III, with the theme: “Nigeria and the Biafra Agitation”. The ex-president asked leaders from the South-East geopolitical zone to call the protesters to order as such action would not do them any good. He said only those who did not experience the Nigerian civil war would embark on such a malevolent exercise. He refused to blame the Igbo for not voting for President Buhari in the last election but urged him to prove that Nigeria was his constituency by acting like God who gives rain to the good and the bad. Obasanjo said: “No right-thinking person who has experienced the horror of war will ever agitate for more wars. Most wars stem from real and perceived injustices and dissatisfaction and invariably wars emanate from a desire to correct or redress such situations. Ugwuonye said, “This is unacceptable. I am going to sue them on Monday.” He repeated what he said in the video, insisting that Buhari, who recently declared in public not to obey some court orders, has no option than to abide by the dictates of the Nigerian Constitution and has no right to choose court orders to obey. The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, says former President Goodluck Jonathan threatened to put him in a hole after the presidential elections in 2015 was concluded. Oshiomole made the allegation while speaking with some APC leaders in Edo state yesterday January 14th. "Around this time last year, in January, a few weeks to the election, many were saying quite recklessly on radio and television that we were finished. The former President, Goodluck Jonathan told our National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun to inform me that after the election, he will put me, Adams, the son of Oshiomhole in a hole and I told Chief Oyegun to inform him to dig that hole very deep because although I am short, in the course of pushing me into the hole, nobody knows who will get there first. Since he is taller than me, he needs to dig the hole deep enough so that either of us can get in. In the end, he is inside the hole and I am busy putting dust into that hole. In this hall, around this time last year, we held a meeting to share information about what was going on in various local governments and the specific challenges in each of those local government in order to fashion out appropriate response. Some of the statements that we shared in those meetings included threats that by June, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole would have been impeached because PDP would write results whether we liked it or not. Some Nigerian senators said Wednesday they are suspicious the Nigerian presidency is behind the sudden disappearance of the 2016 budget submitted to the National Assembly. The lawmakers said the intelligence they had so far gathered suggested that the presidency discreetly withdrew the documents to enable it to make some adjustments to it. The president had presented the budget to a joint session of the legislature in December. The Senate Leader, Mohammed Ndume, sources said, informed the senators, upon resumption from the Christmas/New Year break, that deliberations on the budget could not commence until fresh copies of the documents were obtained from the presidency, Ministry of Finance or its national planning counterpart. However, some senators, who requested not to be named so as not to anger the presidency, told PREMIUM TIMES they had since realised the budget was discreetly withdrawn by the president in order to make some adjustments. The senators said the presidency had in the past two weeks been combing through the budgets with a view to removing provisions that had so far exposed the administration to ridicule. “The executive have now started delivering fresh copies of the budget documents to the National Assembly,” one of the senators said. “The details in the copies they are delivering are different from those in the version delivered to the National Assembly in December. Some adjustments have been made.” But the presidency has however denied withdrawing the document. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said only Mr. Buhari could withdraw the budget but had not done so. He suggested that the issue of missing budgets should not arise because several copies of the document were sent to the legislature. “Nobody except the president can withdraw the budget; as far as we know, he hasn’t done that,” Mr. Shehu said in a response to PREMIUM TIMES enquiry on the matter Tuesday. “The copies in their hundreds have been delivered to both chambers of the National Assembly. “By tradition, once the budget is submitted, it ceases to be our property. Inquiries should be directed to the appropriate quarters.” Reported From: http://www.zubbyblog.com/president-behind-the-missing-2016-budget-senators/ |
fresh crisis is currently brewing in the All Progressives Congress over the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the political appointees of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan. Some leaders of the ruling party, who faulted Buhari’s retention of the PDP members, called for their sacking and the appointment of APC members in their stead. Besides, some members of the APC also lamented that Buhari was not helping the party with funds. A chieftain of the APC in Lagos, who did not want his name in print, told our correspondent that they had not benefitted anything from Buhari since he took over power eight months ago. He said it was as if the President was rewarding members of the Peoples Democratic Party and punishing APC members. He said, “President Buhari took over on May 29, 2015 and has not rewarded APC members. Most of the heads of departments and agencies are members of the PDP who worked for Jonathan. For example, Onyeka Onwenu is still the Director-General of the National Women Centre while Mike Omeri is still the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency. The spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emma Powerful, has insisted that Biafra is not seceding, but only fighting for the restoration of its nation through peaceful protests. In a telephone interview with News24 Nigeria on Tuesday, Powerful denied that IPOB had plans to use violence to get its demands met, and called for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu and two others have been charged with treason and other related offences on account of his agitation for the secession of the South-East and other areas of the country to form a sovereign state of Biafra. Kanu is the face of IPOB and creator of Radio Biafra. Powerful denied that Kanu had apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari, as reports recently indicated. “I want the world and the international community to tell Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu immediately. He did not do anything wrong," Powerful said. Powerful threatened that if anything happened to Kanu, who is said to be ill and has no access to medical care, there won’t be peace in Nigeria. "Nnamdi Kanu is our Moses, he is the one leading us out of this zoo, presently he is locked up in prison, he is sick, but has no access to medical care, I am calling on the international community to tell them that if anything happens to him, Nigeria will know no peace. We will not physically fight Nigeria, but we will protest, till they have arrested or shot everybody. How many of us can they arrest or shoot?,” said Powerful. Former House of Representatives member, Abike Dabiri-Erewa has criticised the rate of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Mrs Dabiri-Erewa, a member of the APC described the defectors as political prostitutes. “The rate of defection from PDP to APC is shameful. Political prostitutes, politics of convenience, not conviction,” she wrote on Twitter on Monday, January 11, 2016. The PDP has recorded an exodus of its members since losing its ruling party status in the 2015 elections. We are still questioning him on other remittances into the company’s account. We are also demanding how he will refund the cash,” the source said. Speaking during the courtesy visit of the leadership and members of the Scout Association of Nigeria, Obasanjo advised leaders at all levels to make the interest of the governed paramount in their policies. The Scout Association decorated two-time leader of the country as Messenger of Peace Ambassador for Africa at his Presidential Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta. Olusegun Obasanjo in scout’ uniform during the courtesy visit. In his appreciation speech, the 78-year-old disclosed that the decoration had rekindled memories of when he became Queen’s Scout, adding that leaders must always be prepared for challenges at all times. “We need a Scout spirit in our country not just for individual benefit alone but also for services to the nation. Work collectively and provide the leadership that will make us get progress,” he emphasised The elegant leader further called for unity, stating that collective responsibility would make the nation progress in all spheres. The ex-leader however promised the group that he would help it notify President Muhammadu Buhari to fix a date for his decoration as the Grand Patron of the association. In his response, Olusoga Sofola Atibioke who is the Chief Commissioner of Scout Association of Nigeria, explained that having Obasanjo as the group’s ambassador will help build a peaceful and formidable Africa with special focus on Nigeria. Corruption has been described as Nigeria’s major problem, hindering development, creating a wide gap between the rich and the poor. While the majority wallowed in poverty, few in government pocketed our commonwealth. Here are some of the biggest corruption cases and allegations that shook Nigerians in 2015 as compiled by Zubbyblog.com 1. Dasukigate Perhaps one of the biggest scams in the history of Nigeria as the APC –led federal government opened a can of worms when it decided to probe the spending of arms fund under the immediate past administration of the PDP. Sambo Dasuki and four others are standing trial for allegedly laundering and diverting $2.1 billion (N546 billion) arms fund. This is enough to fund the 2016 proposed budgets of Ebonyi, Kebbi, Sokoto, Edo, Yobe and Ekiti states altogether. The arms scandal became even more worrisome as media organisations were also caught in the scam. Although, the media organisations, mostly newspaper publishers, claimed the money was meant for compensation for the damages the Military cost them in 2014. Some of the media organisations are now returning N9million each to the Office of the National Security Adviser though NPAN. 2. Diversion of One Trillion by Former EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Lamorde The stain of corruption did not spare anti-graft agencies as former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, was accused of fraudulently diverting over N1tn proceeds from corruption recovered by the agency. A petition by George Uboh alleged that part of the diverted fund included the loot recovered from a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha; and ex-Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun. Lamorde, who is yet to clear his name in the scandal, was later sacked as EFCC chairman on the 9th November 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari. 3 NIMASA N2.6Billion Scam Former Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi and five others staff of the agency are currently standing trial on a 22-count charge for allegedly stealing the sum of N2.6 billion belonging to NIMASA. Embarrassingly, Akpobolokemi on December 14 resisted re-arrest by the EFCC within court premises after he was granted bail by the court. The drama which was caught on tap went viral on social media as EFCC operatives forcefully dragged Akpobolokemi into a waiting van. Akpobolokemi is in EFCC custody and his awaiting trial. 4. $1 billion missing monthly – Sanusi Nigerians could not but screamed when former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, revealed that about $1bn (N260bn) went missing every month under former President Goodluck Jonathan. The former central bank governor, said this during a programme entitled ‘How a cancer of corruption steals Nigerian oil, weapons and lives’, which aired on The PBS NewsHour, an American daily evening television show. The monarch said many dirty and shocking deals took place under the immediate past Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is currently being investigated in the United Kingdom. “In Nigeria, there is no accountability at all and that is why I think Nigeria’s corruption is worse than corruption in most parts of the world. It is the worst type of corruption; It’s stealing” “Frankly, I think a billion dollars under Jonathan a month was about what we were losing.” Sanusi said. The allegation has not been investigated by Nigerian Government or Anti-graft agencies 5. N6 Billion Bribe To Christian Leaders On the 4th of February 2015, The then Director-General, Buhari Presidential Campaign organisation, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, accused some church leaders of taking N6 billion bribe from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to campaign against the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). Meanwhile, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and the PDP denied the allegation but in a twist, a Borno-based Pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, on February 19, said that the money that was given to Pastors by the [former] president was actually N7bn and not N6bn as alleged by Amaechi. Nigerian authorities have arrested one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephews, Salisu Mamman, and have detained him and his gang at the Federal Prison in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, over allegations of fraud, name-dropping, forgery and attempt to swindle some unsuspecting businessmen. Zubby exclusively gathered that the gang led by Mamman obtained money from the individuals on the pretext that he will introduce them to the President and use his very close relations with him and purported ties with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who doubles as the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, to help them secure crude oil allocations as well as license to import petroleum products. The scam blew up when the business men’s companies were not among those awarded oil contracts by the NNPC.
