Crime / Drug Baroness, Four Kingpins Arrested As NDLEA Busts Three Syndicates In Lagos by quickberry(m): 10:55pm On Aug 13, 2023
Operatives of a Special Unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday arrested three major illicit drug syndicates in intelligence-led operations across parts of Lagos State.

According to a statement by the spokesman for the agency, Femi Bababfemi, the operations led to the arrest of a baroness and four other kingpins with multi-billion naira worth of Cocaine, Opioids, and Loud recovered from their hideouts.

The female head of one of the syndicates, Faith Ebele Nwankwo was arrested on Wednesday 9th August at her residence, House 6, C close, 3rd Avenue, FESTAC area of Lagos shortly after she returned from a warehouse at Plot 3432 Sola Akinsola Street, Divine Estate, Amuwo Odofin where she loaded eight cartons of tramadol 225mg into an unmarked white Honda Pilot SUV.

Babafemi said, “A search of her residence and the warehouse led to the recovery of Two Million Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand (2,750,000) pills of Tramaking, a brand of tramadol 225mg and 250mg packed in 39 cartons weighing 1,916 kilograms.

“The drugs and the SUV were recovered while the suspect was taken into custody”.

In another operation targeted at a group of transnational syndicates involved in the importation, exportation, distribution, and dealing of Cocaine and Canadian Loud, operatives of the same Special Unit of the Agency on Friday 4th August tracked the drug syndicate to Atlantic Nominee Estate in Lekki- Ajah area of Lagos where a blue Toyota Highlander SUV was loaded with 8.49kg of cocaine and 10.3kg Canadian Loud for distribution by the duo of Urama Chinemelum Precious, 32, and Adelakun Ilelabayo Oluade, 55.

A follow-up operation at the residence of Chinemelum at House 7, Road 7, Lagra estate, Eti-Osa, Lagos led to the recovery of an additional 18 blockage of Loud weighing 18.5kg.

The following day, Saturday 5th August, operatives of the Special Unit went after another syndicate involved in the importation, distribution, and diversion of ephedrine hydrochloride, a precursor chemical used for the production of methamphetamine, following intelligence that members of the cartel were planning to divert 25 kilograms of the substance.

Two members of the syndicate: Udeh Vincent Ogbonna, 53, and Okonkwo Ifeanyi Uzozie, 50, were arrested at a commercial bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos where they were attempting to send the concealed substance to the South East.

A body search conducted on the two suspects led to the recovery of Three Thousand ($3,000) US Dollars found on Udeh Vincent Ogbonna.

In operations across four other states of Ogun, Ondo, Edo and Nasarawa, the NDLEA operatives recovered over 13,391.8 kilograms of skunk.

Politics / Apapa Inaugurates Lagos Lp’s New Exco, Says No Going Back by quickberry(m): 12:18pm On Aug 13, 2023
Lamidi Apapa-led factional National Working Committee of the Labour Party on Saturday officially inaugurated the party’s 24-man caretaker State Working Committee for Lagos State.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the crisis rocking the Labour Party has worsened in Lagos State with the emergence of a factional chairman, Prince Olumide Adesoyin recently.

Apapa-led faction disowned the Mrs Dayo Ekong-led Executive Committee, which led the party into the 2023 general elections, constituted by Mr Julius Abure-led NWC.

Inaugurating Adesoyin-led LP State Working Committee in Lagos, Apapa, Acting National Chairman in the company of other NWC members said that the LP remained a creation of the law and no one was above the law.

According to him, there is no going back in his led NWC’s readiness to steer the party’s affairs.

“Labour Party will not tolerate any act of indiscipline. Labour Party will not accept any act of illegality.

“Labour Party believes that nobody is above the law and this is why the level we are today is because of our belief in the court process.

“You are on the right side. If the other camp fails to join you, the train will soon move. Tell them to come and join us because we need more people,” he said.

According to him, the party’s grievances with former National Chairman, Mr Julius Abure, started when he allegedly presented himself as being above the law.

According to him, the courts have restrained Abure from parading himself as National Chairman.

“Nobody is above the law. Labour Party is a creation of law; if the party is created by law, anyone who violates the law is not a party member.

“There is nothing for us to fear. There is no going back, Abure has been restrained by the courts. We are not joking,” he said.

The acting chairman said that rather than continuing in blackmailing, the Abure-led group should dissipate energy in legality.

Apapa, who explained that he was not begging to become the National Chairman of LP, but destiny, nature and right had made him the acting National Chairman morally and legally.

Apapa said that his-led NWC had been winning all court cases at the Federal High Court and Appeal Court, “they still want to continue but whether they like it or not the truth shall prevail.”

On the forthcoming off-cycles governorship, Apapa assured the party faithful that INEC would soon accept the list of the LP candidates produced through the primaries conducted by the faction.

“INEC is bound to accept our list because the commission is a creation of law and cannot be above the law. Whether INEC likes it or not, it must recognise our list of candidates.

“INEC is bound by law to upload the names of those that we conducted primary for. It is an issue of law,” Apapa said.

He, however, said that the party did not oppose reconciliation.

In his inaugural address, Adesoyin said that his team had been given the power and authority to steer the affairs of the party in the state.

Earlier in his welcome party, Mr Abass Aroyeun, the National Vice Chairman (South West) said that Apapa had given the party a new lease of life and ability to breathe.

Aroyeun urged the party faithful nationwide to remain a pillar of support to Apapa-led NWC for the party to succeed.

NAN members of the inaugurated SWC include Messrs Omotayo Anjorin (Deputy Chairman), Olanrewaju Ibrahim (Deputy Chairman), Kayode Yusuf (Deputy Chairman), Felix Odusanya (Deputy Chairman), Peter Olusegun (Deputy Chairman), Nnaemeka Anajemba (Secretary) and Richard Oliseyenum (Assistant Secretary).

Others include Azubike Peters (Treasurer), Akinrele Abioye (Financial Secretary), Kunle Okunola (Organising Secretary), Ademola Hassan (Auditor), Abass Ibrahim (Legal Adviser), Dupe Awe (Woman Leader), Elliot Ebije (Youth Leader), Samad Okufuwa (Publicity Secretary) among others.

The event was also attended by LGA and Ward Chairmen of the Labour Party and other stakeholders loyal to Apapa including some Chief Moshood Salvador.

Some acting NWC members in attendance include Mr Abayomi Arabambi (National Publicity Secretary) Alhaji Saleh Lawan (Secretary), Prince Favour Reuben (National Organising Secretary), and Alhaji Mohammed Alkali (National Vice Chairman), among other leaders.

Just last week she wrote his course and since then the disturbance moved to another level. We are thinking of what to do about the situation.

Set him up. Tell your babe to arrange to meet the lecturer in a hotel, inform the police about the plan...lobatan😋

If I may ask, is Oparanozie not in this squad? Has she lost some bite?

Because I've never seen her play in this WC. Is the striker in this list better than her?

She got injured before the tournament

The Afrobasket final will be tough. I never thought the Senegalese will make it to the final with their poor start. I thought the Malians were in the best form to win their first Afrobasket but the Senegalese shocked me. We have to close down Dillard just like the S. Falcons have to close down L. James if we are going to stand a chance. Nevertheless, our most potent weapon will be Amy and Tomi 3- point throws. A bad day from those two might be disastrous for us! I wish D Tigress best of luck!

We are currently spanking them
