The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Federal Government for ensuring a relatively stable nationwide supply of petroleum products and electricity during this year’s Christmas celebration. The National Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr Bestman Okereafor, gave the kudos in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu on Thursday. “The leadership of the apex students governing body, NANS, has carefully studied the promise made by Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari as regards constant supply of electricity and availability of petroleum products throughout the country this yuletide. “We wish to acknowledge and appreciate the fact that these promises had been fulfilled. “NANS is passionately appealing to the presidency to sustain the tempo of power supply as currently being enjoyed beyond the yuletide for the benefit of Nigerians,’’ he said. However, NANS has condemned the recent ambush by Boko Haram on a military convoy in the North-East, killing 13 soldiers and a policeman. According to Okereafor, it is very disheartening that the Boko Haram insurgents have been engaging in these cowardly acts on Nigerian military bases in recent times. “Even not quite long, a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, was assassinated, despite the huge investments of the present government in tackling insecurity and insurgency. “NANS is bidding the demised soldiers and policeman farewell even as we are optimistic that due compensations will be paid to their families. “NANS is, however, advising the military and other security agencies to devise new and modern methods of fighting terrorists, all aimed at having a peaceful nation devoid of terrorists, and in line with President Buhari’s war against insecurity generally,’’ the spokesman said. By Rotimi Ojomoyela Ado Ekiti-A group under the auspices of Buhari/Osinbajo National Support Committee, has said that the alleged corruption that characterised the 16 years of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the country would make it difficult for its candidate, Atiku Abubakar to win the 2019 election. The group insisted that the only choice that can sustain the existing national cohesion and peace remains President Muhammadu Buhari. corruption It said the unrelenting effort and commitment to fight corruption and make Nigerians regain their respect in the Committee of nations make Buhari a sellable candidate. The Buhari group insisted that it would be a grave mistake for PDP to return to power and begin their alleged plundering of the treasury four years after it lost out to APC in power struggle . The group’s National Adviser, Southwest zone and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Dr. Olusegun Osinkolu spoke on Wednesday in Ayede Ekiti while interacting with party members across the 56 wards in Ekiti North to mark Christmas festivity. Osinkolu appealed that APC members should forget the crises that dogged the primaries in Ekiti and work for the victory of President Buhari in the 2019 presidential election. In the same vein, Osinkolu also persuaded the aggrieved members of the party to embrace the ongoing reconciliation moves of the party and work for the victory of the senatorial, House of representatives and House of assembly candidates in the elections . He contended that four years was too short a period to rate the capacity of President Buhari to deliver democratic dividends to Nigerians, saying according him the second term opportunity would afford the president the benefit to consolidate the gains of democracy for Nigerians. “The PDP itself knew that the issue of corruption will work against Atiku, because up to now, no court had cleared him of the allegations that the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)and Bureau of Public Enterprises(BPE) put under him as Vice President under Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration were not badly managed. “Under PDP 16 years rein, where Atiku served as Vice President, a sum of $16b was spent on power sector, despite Nigeria was in darkness. “Nigerians voted against PDP in 2015 elections because of corruption and they brought President Buhari, a man they could trust. So, the salient question is, has PDP changed? Nigerians can’t return to the era when our monies were being looted by few people. “President Buhari promised that Nigeria’s monies will be for Nigerians and he is doing just that. It will be a great miscalculation for Nigerians who suffered for 16 years under PDP to turn around and bring the party back to power, I know such would not happen because Nigerians are wiser now”, he said. Osinkolu said he has put the crisis caused by alleged manipulation of the senatorial primary in Ekiti North behind him in the interest of the party. “I urge all my supporters across the 56 wards from Ekiti North to work for the party, because I know that division will only weaken the party and reduce its strength ahead of the forthcoming election. “Our leader and governor , Dr. Kayode Fayemi won the 2018 governorship election because APC was united and you saw what happened to PDP that was polarized in the same election, so unity is key to our success in 2019. “As for me, I won’t betray APC or do anything that could create crisis for Governor Fayemi, because APC remains one indissoluble family”. Also speaking at the event, former Senator representing the zone, Mr. Olubunmi Adetumbi and ex-APC State Publicity Secretary, Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun praised Osinkolu for his steadfastness and loyalty to the party, urging other members to emulate the gesture . The Ondo state Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday faulted the claim by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that it received about 10,000 of its members in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State. It described the notion as porous and cheap propaganda, stressing that the claim had helped to amplify what has already been known that the party has no regards for figures, besides it’s inelastic capacity for distortion of glaring facts. A statement by the party’s spokesman, Alex Kalejaye said “The APC in Ondo State wishes to place on records that a fraction of those who followed Chief Olusola Oke to the party early this year actually returned to where they always belong. They were less than 50 in number. “The ruling party deeply appreciates the courage and will of the bulk of the group for believing in the APC, and resisting the indescribable efforts aimed at inducing them financially. “What happened in Okitipupa was a political jamboree by the Ondo State PDP, designed to justify the huge financial investment of its national leaders, who stormed Akure, the Ondo State capital last Thursday, and led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State. “It was therefore necessary for the State chapter to rent some idle youths that have no electoral values to present a seemingly huge crowd for further patronage. The statement stressed that Ondo APC was unperturbed about the hollow and rootless antics that will expire in February. It said “We remain committed to our determination to deliver the State for our party during the general elections. The party will continue to work for the good people of Ondo State and and showcase what we have been able to do, even at the national level, rather than orchestrated propaganda. “This government has no place for deception and empty promises that will not improve the living conditions and welfare of the people. The statement assured the citizenry that the present Akeredolu’s government would implement all the projects intended, and flagged off, while payment of workers’ salaries and wages would be sustained.
