najib632: No he was not, when the Quraish pagans were making life difficult for muslims, the muslims migrated to Medina and then the pagans decided to sell the proerties of muslims so when the news about what the Quraish have done arrived, the meccan muslims were saddened so the messenger of Allah S.A.W. promised them that they will get their wealth back and so they went to raid caravan and then the muslims who were not prepared for at all had to engage in a battle which was later named the battle of badr you should read about the battle of badr from Islamic sources or non-bias historians.
kulhud: I don't believe, I am not an Hindu. I don't have the restriction from eating a cow meat.
Hypothetically, I am married with six kids with no intention of having another for financial reasons. So, while having steamy sex with my wife on a cold night I removed my "johnnyboy" from my wife as I was about to hit the climax, choked the monkey(masturbated) for a few seconds and finished on her back like the good Apostle Johnson Sule to avoid getting her pregnant. Have I sinned?
Stupid frog-eyed-b!tch. Woe betide anyone who'll come to the defence of this thief. To her and her cohorts who have looted the future of even the unborn, unstable as water, you shall not prosper.
DarkRebel69: Indeed, it's a wonderful piece of music. More interesting perhaps is the fascinating history behind it. When Gregorio Allegri composed the piece and after it was performed by the Vatican's choir during the Tenebrae service on the Holy Week, it was so good that Pope Urban VIII banned it from being performed outside the Sistine Chapel. Whoever dared perform it outside of the Vatican walls was to face excommunication from the Church. Copies of the music were given to only three individuals: the Holy Roman Emperor, the King of Portugal, and a cardinal. Even so, the copies given to them lacked the special ornamentation of the original composed by Allegri.
In fact, we are only able to hear of it today because of the initiative and ingenuity of fourteen-year old Mozart. Mozart went to Rome with his dad, Leopold, heard the Miserere for the first time, then went home and transcribed the entire piece from memory. Impressive, innit? He went back on the second day of the Tenebrae so he could hear it again and make corrections, before sending it to Charles Burney in England, wherefrom it spread far and wide. It was only then, when the Vatican's prized musical secret had been leaked by Mozart that Pope Clement IV lifted the sanction that had been imposed on it. Not only that, Pope Clement IV was very impressed with Mozart's brilliance and feat of memory, so that he bestowed knighthood on him.
That version on my profile is Mozart's version, and not quite what you'll hear from the Vatican choir, although it remains mesmeric in its own rights. Here, I've posted the original version for your benefit:
Mozart was really a musical genius. I still get the chills whenever I attempt his K545. Unfortunately, as it was in the case of Bach, fascinating compositions like this are forever lost.
DarkRebel69: Maybe not dumb, but no doubt a large litter of ignorance. I hope I wasn't quoted because I'm wrongly thought of as an atheist, because I'm not one.
@OP, "Is the Pious pious because he is loved by the gods, or is the Pious pious because he is pious?", said Socrates to Euthyphro.
Ask yourself, which is the nobler of the two, to be good and upright without any promise of happiness nor fortune in the after-life, or to be good and upright only on pain of eternal damnation in Hell?
I think it's been long debunked that morality and religiosity are not quite mutually exclusive as some like to believe, one can surely exist without the intrusion of the other. It's a cognitive failue to think there can be no sense of right or evil without religion. Man has always known it's a crime against Nature to murder his fellow man, even long before the advent of the Bible or Qu'ran. We have our superegos (conscience), don't we?
A cursory glance at the Nigerian clime would put paid to your irresponsible claims, 'cause what you'll find is a country teeming with churches and mosques, and yet remains rife with corruption, public thievery, and social injustice. Perhaps the dung on the rotten cake is that the executors of these sins are usually of the religious ilk. What happened to religion instilling goodness in people's hearts?
My apologies.
I just had to listen to Allegri's Miserere again. Wonderful!
Goodlyhrt: Seeing Explorers topic about the evolution of Bikinis/Beach wears on FP I weep for this world.
Because of this evil beast named atheism the standards for morality have sorely depleted. People dont consider conscience anymore they just go on and do whatever they like so long it pleases them and the law is not in their tails: Stealing is allowed so long you can evade the law (not caught) prostitution and indecency so long you are minding your business and not causing harm to people.
Why should we care about morality since atheism teaches people that there is no God (Al powerful, al knowing holy and uncomproming spotless being), in their ideology the constitution is the supreme power, but since man made the constitution and man can change it then why dont we all strive to be in a position of influencing the constitution to suit us as we wish.
Thereby making all means and vices to get to power blameless because thats all that matters since there isnt any recompence nor reward for evil, makin useless the saying what goes around comes around and the law of karma worthless. Because according to the atheist If the above is not controlled by man then its non-existant.
Think about this
This is the dumbest thing I've read this month. cc: seun, hopefullanlord, hahn, johnnydon22, darkrebel69.
Benita27: STFU, and keep your silly subjective advice to yourself.
Hypocrisy is when you condemn the girl's actions but think the guy has the right to cheat on her. If she had cheated and got a worse treatment from this guy, people like you would have praised him for dealing with a cheating slayqueen. Don't you think catching him cheating while they're still dating saves her of a "Dog" she would have ended up with as a future husband?. Serves the cheating bastard right!.
Amarabae: I love it where you made the point "Instead of whinning, pls pick up a skill or learn a trade" that was part of the points I raised yesterday and they wanted to crucify me. Many Men are regretting their marriage because they were not Financially stable before taking a Wife and the hardship is taking toll on them, thats why some of them have prematured gray hairs due to hardship. Even if the wife is working, the man will still feel the burden. - And to all hardworking guys out there, May God bless your hustling.
Ooooh God! She is here again to taint this thread again.
johnydon22: Very good question but then one look at the problem raised one can deduce it is just a argument of definition, a pinch of a precise definition is enough to put everything at rest for such an argument.
I can even explain such argument with same analogy that can be used to explain the true scotsman fallacy.
Pay attention: Every man from Scotland is a scotsman
the statement above is the definition of a scotsman, once you are from scotland you are a scotsman by definition.
I may come along and say a true scotsman is any man that can close one eye and leave the other open for a minute. this redefinition automaticlly changes what a scotsman is to my audience if they employ my later definition.
By employing my definition any man in the world, even a man from Nigeria can be a scotsman as long as he can close one eye for a minute.
So what exactly is a scotsman?
That is the argument of definition that you have just raised. I can call anything God by my definition, so if an atheist says there is no God does he also say my Shoe that i call a God does not exist or is not a God?
Well my shoe can be God but also cannot be God.
It depends on your employment of a certain definition, A man from Nigeria can be a scotsman by a certain definition and will not by another definition.
So the question is: What is God?
what makes something God? is there an essence that makes someone or something God? are there characters that you must exhibit then you become a God?
What is God?
Once we establish this definition i think we can then use it as a sieve to answer the question, if we on this thread are going to have a precise definition of God we are going to work with then we can comfortably define what we believe or what we dont, we can devise a category of how we place the validity of what God is or not on this thread based on our coined definition.
I have once asked on a thread on creation and God: Is God God because it created the universe or is it God whether or not it created the universe?
another way of asking, is God still god even if it didnt create the universe?
First, let me encourage you to continue to approach faith from asking questions as you have just done.
Just continue to be as open minded as possible.
Now to your point sir, Night and day occurs, not because the earth revolves around the sun. We experience night and day because the earth spins on its axis.
The revolution of the earth round the sun is reason for another entity entirely.
Also, I'll like to point your attention to a part of that post which you quoted. The part where i mentioned that the sun and the earth were held in same position for the duration.... This means that the sun didn't move, neither did the earth rotate.
I hope I was able to attend comprehensively enough to your satisfaction sir.
You are always welcome to add your voice here anytime
The best is yet to come!
The verses of the book of Joshua you quoted mentioned the sun being held "motionless". But since we agree that the occurence of Night and Day is due to the spinning of the Earth around its axis and not the sun moving around the earth, do we say that the claim of the verses are unscientific? I am sure sir that you are aware of the cataclysmic effect that would follow if the Earth should suddenly stop spinning round its axis just to allow a part of it have 24-hour sunlight.
