Jobs/VacanciesRe: Why Do Some Companies Ghost Applicants? by QuinModah(f): 7:21pm On Jul 22, 2025
I totally get your frustration! 😩 It can be super disheartening when you put in effort to tailor your CV and cover letter, only to be ghosted by recruiters. From an HR perspective, here are some reasons why companies might not get back to applicants after the initial application:

Reasons for Not Responding
1. High Volume of Applications: Big organizations like OPEC, MTN, and NGOs often receive tons of applications for each job opening. Responding to each one individually can be overwhelming and time-consuming.
2. Automated Recruitment Systems: Many companies use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) that filter out candidates based on keywords and criteria. If your application doesn't pass the ATS filter, you might not get a response.
3. Resource Constraints: Smaller HR teams or companies might not have the bandwidth to respond to every applicant personally hence the reason the use consultant or google form to weed out applicants.
4. Policy of Only Responding to Shortlisted Candidates: Some companies have a policy of only communicating with candidates who have been shortlisted for further stages, which can lead to silence for other applicants.

Sending Regret Emails
You're right that sending a bulk regret email to applicants who weren't selected could be a considerate approach. Some companies do adopt this practice to maintain a positive employer brand and provide closure to applicants.
ImpartialGuy:
So I have been thinking lately. Getting jobs has become extremely difficult in Nigeria these days, especially if you have no connection.

In a bid to grab the attention of the employer or HR manager, you take your time to create a compelling CV and mind-blowing cover letter.

If you genuinely want to get the attention of good companies, you know that one CV or cover letter template can't serve many companies. You take your time and energy to perfect your CV and cover letter to suit the JD.

Yet, the recruiter doesn't even bother getting back to you. It's even better to receive a regret email so you can move on but after applying for the job, they don't even tell you whether you are qualified to proceed to the next stage or not. You are just ghosted. Surprisingly, big organisations like OPEC, MTN,NGOs. etc even do that.

So, if you have worked as HR personnel, I want to understand the reason why companies don't bother getting back to applicants after the first application. Even if the applications were many, you can extract the email addresses and send one regret email to all.

PlasmaTV:
When I was still in town, three incidents made me almost give up on Lagos and agberos.

1
One time, I was going somewhere in the morning. Say 8am. I had a traveling bag (note that I wasn't traveling).

I was at Ojota bridge area when suddenly, 3 young guys accosted me and started hailing me, telling me to give them something for the weekend. I told them in English that I didn't have shishi to give. You wouldn't believe that these fewls threatened to seize my phone if I didn't give them money.
I changed it to Yoruba and cussed them. They scuttled away. They thought I was a JJC.

2
Another bitter experience was when BAT visited Lagos and caused heavy traffic. My guy who worked was going home but because of terrible traffic, everybody had to trek at a point. Agberos wanted to snatch his bag and in the process, they stabbed his chest. He bled out like a chicken on the side of the road, with virtually nobody coming to help. Best graduating student of the faculty fa. His daughter was just a few months old.

If Lagos doesn't rid itself of agberos, the state would implode in 20 years time.
it has exploded already, you can imagine the petty stealing going on in even areas within Lagos.

Here are some safety rules for dealing with street urchins in Lagos:

Safety Rules
1. Maintain a Safe Distance: Keep a safe physical distance to avoid any potential threats or aggression.
2. Avoid Direct Engagement: Minimize direct interaction unless absolutely necessary, and always prioritize your safety.
3. Be Aware of Surroundings: Stay alert and aware of your environment to anticipate any potential risks.
4. Do Not Give Money or Food: Avoid giving money or food, as this can encourage their presence and create dependency.
5. Seek Authority Assistance: If intervention is necessary, involve local authorities or organizations equipped to handle such situations safely.
6. Use Secure Communication: If communication is necessary, use clear, firm, and respectful tones without compromising your safety.
7. Have an Exit Strategy: Always have a clear plan for quickly and safely exiting the situation or area if needed.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: No Job, No Marriage And No Child At 40. What Next? by QuinModah(f): 7:24am On Jul 21, 2025
Being 40 with no job, no marriage, and no child can feel like a lot to handle, but honestly, it's a chance for a fresh start! Let's break it down into manageable steps.

Career First
Getting a job or starting a new career path is a great place to begin. Since you're 40, your experience and skills are super valuable. Consider.
- Upskilling: Update your skills and knowledge to boost your job prospects.
- Networking: Leverage social media like LinkedIn and build professional connections.
- Starting Fresh: You can start as a "fresher" in a new field or try a side hustle to test the waters.

Personal Life
As for marriage and having a child, these are personal choices that shouldn't define your worth. If you're open to it, you could focus on building meaningful relationships and maybe even starting a family if that's what you want. But if not, that's perfectly okay too. Your happiness and fulfillment are what matter most.

Next Steps
So, what's next? Take a deep breath and start small. Reflect on your goals, update your resume, and start networking. You got this! Remember, your 40s can be a powerful time for reinvention and growth .

How does that sound?

Let's provide a balanced perspective:

Economic Comparison: Ogbomoso vs. Osogbo
While Ogbomoso has its economic strengths, such as being a major commercial center with a thriving agricultural sector, it's not necessarily accurate to claim it's far better economically than Osogbo without considering various factors.

Osogbo's Economic Advantages
1. *Proximity to Major Cities*: Osogbo is closer to major cities like Ibadan and Lagos, which can facilitate trade and commerce.
2. *Tourism*: Osogbo is known for its cultural attractions, such as the Osun Osogbo Sacred Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which can generate revenue through tourism.
3. *Industrial Activities*: Osogbo has industrial activities that contribute to its economy.

Ogbomoso's Economic Advantages
1. *Agricultural Sector*: Ogbomoso has a strong agricultural sector, which can drive economic growth.
2. *Commercial Center*: Ogbomoso is a major commercial center, attracting businesses and traders.

Balanced Perspective
Both Ogbomoso and Osogbo have their economic strengths and weaknesses. Without more specific data and context, it's challenging to definitively say one is far better economically than the other. Economic performance can vary based on multiple factors, including infrastructure, governance, and sectoral diversity.

That sounds like a really tough and stressful situation. Dealing with conflict, especially when it involves family members or partners, can be emotionally draining. PhonesRe: This Happened To My Samsung A16 (Photos) by QuinModah(f): 1:50pm On May 20, 2025
It sounds like you're really shaken up about what happened with your phone and charger. Let's break it down:

*What likely happened:*

1. *Overheating or electrical issue*: The smell and damage to your phone's charger port suggest an electrical issue or overheating.
2. *Charger or phone port problem*: The charger or phone's charging port might be faulty, causing the overheating or electrical issue.

*Possible causes:*

1. *Faulty charger*: The charger might be damaged or of poor quality, leading to the issue.
2. *Phone port damage*: The phone's charging port might be damaged, causing the overheating or electrical issue.
3. *Overcharging*: Although your phone was only at 60%, overcharging can sometimes cause issues.

*Why it didn't happen with your wife's phone:*

1. *Different phone model*: The Samsung A16 might have different charging requirements or protection mechanisms that prevented the issue.
2. *Charger compatibility*: The charger might be more compatible with the Samsung A16 than your phone.

*What to do next:*

1. *Use a different charger*: Try using a different charger to see if the issue persists.
2. *Check your phone's charging port*: Have your phone's charging port inspected and repaired if necessary.
3. *Be cautious*: Be careful when charging your phone, and monitor it for any unusual signs like overheating or strange smells.

I'm glad you tested the charger with your wife's phone and it worked. Hopefully, you'll be able to identify the root cause and prevent similar issues in the future.

BTCproMax:
If awarded a \$10,000–\$20,000 grant to develop a blockchain-powered solution addressing a significant challenge in Nigeria, I would focus on creating a Blockchain-Based Agricultural Supply Chain and Food Traceability Platform.

This initiative aims to tackle critical issues in Nigeria's agricultural sector, including food safety, supply chain inefficiencies, and export rejections due to non-compliance with international standards.

---

🌾 Project Overview: AgriChain Nigeria

Objective: To enhance transparency, traceability, and efficiency in Nigeria's agricultural supply chains, ensuring food safety and boosting both domestic and international consumer confidence.

---

🚜 Key Features

1. Immutable Farm-to-Fork Tracking:
Utilize blockchain to record every stage of the agricultural process—from cultivation and harvesting to processing, transportation, and retail. This ensures that each product's journey is transparent and tamper-proof.

2. Smart Contracts for Compliance:
Implement smart contracts that automatically enforce compliance with safety standards and quality checks at each supply chain stage, reducing the risk of contamination and fraud.

3. Digital Certification:
Provide farmers and producers with digital certificates stored on the blockchain, verifying adherence to best practices and standards, which can be easily accessed by regulators and consumers.

4. Consumer Transparency: Enable consumers to scan QR codes on products to access detailed information about the product's origin, processing, and journey, fostering trust and informed choices.

---

🛠️ Implementation Strategy

Pilot Program:
Initiate the project with high-demand export crops like cocoa, sesame seeds, and palm oil, which have faced significant rejection rates due to quality concerns.

Stakeholder Collaboration:
Partner with local farmers, cooperatives, agricultural extension services, and export agencies to ensure comprehensive adoption and feedback.

Technology Infrastructure:
Develop a user-friendly mobile application compatible with low-end smartphones, ensuring accessibility for rural farmers. Incorporate offline capabilities to accommodate areas with limited internet connectivity.

Training and Support:
Conduct workshops and training sessions for farmers and supply chain participants to educate them on using the platform effectively.

---

📈 Expected Impact

Enhanced Food Safety:
By providing end-to-end traceability, the platform will help identify and eliminate sources of contamination, ensuring safer food products for consumers.

Reduced Export Rejections:
Transparent and verifiable supply chains will align with international standards, decreasing the rate of export rejections and increasing Nigeria's competitiveness in global markets.

Empowered Farmers:
Access to verifiable records and certifications can open up new markets for farmers, potentially leading to better pricing and income stability.

Consumer Trust: Transparency in the food supply chain will build consumer confidence, encouraging the purchase of locally produced goods.

---

💡 Why This Solution?

Nigeria's agricultural sector is pivotal to its economy but is hampered by issues like food contamination, lack of transparency, and supply chain inefficiencies.

By leveraging blockchain technology, this solution addresses these challenges head-on, promoting food safety, enhancing export potential, and empowering local farmers.

(You see say I get the material—but tailor no dey....Oya bring the cash make we start the project 😃☝️)

You're challenging some common narratives about gender dynamics. Let's explore these points:

1. Female students and education: While some female students may drop out due to pregnancy, many face significant challenges returning to school afterward. Support systems and policies can help.

2. Work-life balance: Both men and women often need to balance work and family responsibilities. Flexible work arrangements can benefit everyone.

3. Job transfers and relocation: Family decisions often prioritize the primary breadwinner's career, which can impact both men and women.

4. Leadership and recognition: Merit-based recognition is ideal, but biases can exist. Promoting fairness and equality in the workplace is essential.

5. Double standards: Societal expectations can indeed lead to double standards. Encouraging open discussions and promoting empathy can help address these issues.
immortalcrown:
Some things you wrote here are not true. Impregnated females students drop out of school because childbirth is naturally designed to withdraw women from their various activities for a while. It is the same way even married women stop their businesses or works to look after their babies for a while. After nursing the babies, nobody stops those girls from returning to school. The last two points should not be here at all. The relocation of a family because of a job transfer is usually not based on the gender of the transferred member but based on whose job sustains the family most. Any man that competently and legitimately rises to the position of CEO is acknowledged and praised, likewise any woman that rises to the same level in the same manner. Any man that uses dubious means to get to the level of CEO is mocked, likewise any woman that does the same.

The other things you stated happen because we live in a fallacious world that practises double standards.
