Dear Customer Please note that clearing has been placed on hold in Lagos as there’s an ongoing issue between the clearing agents and the customs that led to a riot and shoot out yesterday. There is a delay in clearing of our shipments due to this incident cause the cargo terminal has been shot down; unfortunately this is beyond our control. We will update you as the situation unfolds. Thank you for your business and patience on this delay. Please see the link below, regarding the situation at cargo terminal in Lagos. http://www.newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=8236. Best regards, The Team at Midas Express Shipping & Freight, |
Customs, cargo agents in free-for-all at Lagos airport By News Express on 20/11/2014 Personnel of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Association of Nigeria Licenced Custom Agents (ANLCA) engaged in a free-for-all at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos yesterday, leaving two cargo agents injured. It was gathered that the trouble broke out when the Customs Area Comptroller at the airport command visited the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company’s (NAHCO) warehouse, where the agents operate. The comptroller was alleged to have been stoned and roughly pushed out of the warehouse by the agents, because they said he came at the break time. Four Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and about eight customs patrol pick-up were drafted to the scene of the incident, after which there was sporadic shooting and teargassing by the customs men. Public Relations Officer of ANCLA, Mr Emmanuel Njoku, however, refused to speak to newsmen on the issue, saying he was having his lunch. But a senior official of customs, who pleaded anonymity, admitted that their officers were beaten up by the agents. The senior official said the customs has given a directive that agents should not come to the bulk area except their men and the NAHCO officials. The cargo agents, he said, however, declined the directive. Following the crisis, it was gathered that the bulk breaking area of the NAHCO warehouse would be closed temporarily till normalcy returns. UPDATE!!! The doctor said they are giving him therapeutic treatment for now because of the fluid in him. This is to see how the body will react(if the body will correct itself). This will go in for 5-7 days. If this does not happen then a biopsy will be done to see what's wrong. The protein electro-phoresis (or Serum) test was done to see the extent of the kidneys function but this cannot be done at once. It has to be done in stages which is why it is taking so long to get the results. TeHN |
UPDATE!!!! 07:40am - The doctors came to check him during the night. He is still stable. I am with him right now and he is conversing well. He says thanks to everyone and keep praying for him. Hopefully, we will have a fuller update soon. TeHN
