Memo to Mobinga and Inked Nerd: Get A Frrrreaking Room!!!!! LOL. We need some man-woman bashing. Like, pronto!!! ![]() |
It's appalling how folks who've never seen ONE Yoruba film in their whole life, have such deep-seated assumptions about the genre. Anyway I'd probably act the same against any of those so-called Igbo movies. My sight will be just ad myopic, my mind just as narrow, as those trying to down-play the pull Yoruba film and actors are having in the industry today. It's not a competition betwn Nollywood and Yorubawood - they're just letting you know that Yoruba movies can hold their own right now more than ever. Just give them the due respect and quit generalizing till you've sat down and actually watched one! |
Blame it on the system. |
Gosh, watched "Jelili" last week with my cousins, loved it! Funnier than "Jenifa"?? Hell YEAH !! There was a part I laffed so hard for like 5mins non-stop, I thot I'd pass out. Like when that guy was being beat up by the mad pple at the mental home just so he could win. Or the Calabar guy who went to the church and got roasted by candle wax just to secure the crown . And of course, Sisi Kola falling asleep and then turning the clock back to midnight to perform the rites for him - sorry her, to win . Synopsis: Jelili was like the village unrepentant i-diot, who went up trees just so he could pee on people's heads, who ate the "sacrifices" kept by others to appease gods - and who generally brought shame to his home . He however stepped on one toe too many and got struck with the jinx of wetting his bed by night and farting uncontrollably and stinkingly by day :X .Luck took him to the city, where he and four other guys start a quest to win a grand prize of cars, money and clothes in a competition. |
Oops, maybe the magazine pple felt Bey wasn't "black" enough to represent an "African" icon, that's why they painted her. In that case, why didn't they just pick someone else that looked more stereotypical? A black-skinned model perhaps?? Lol. I guess to most white folks , Beyonce Knowles Carter is the most accomplished, iconic young black woman alive worth gracing that particular cover. Too bad her natural skin tone got in the way of the "tribute"?Question now is, whose @!*%®¤¢€©¡?! idea was it to paint her face? |
Let's not start any unfair comparisons btwn Yoruba and Nollywood movies. Yoruba's are a tribe rich in culture and tradition. Mayhap, they could find no niche in Nollywood, and so decided to create an industry where Yoruba-speaking film lovers can enjoy films made in their language. And you don't have to be "yoruba" to be in their movies. Many cross-over actors ranging from Ibo to South-east act quite comfortable in these movies with a passable command of Yoruba language. People like Funke Akindele found no avenue to grow in mafia-like Nollywood, so she went to her Yoruba roots and has made a name for herself in the Yoruba genre. She is well-respected as an actor and ambassador and has graced a lot of "red carpets" (@ gohome). Finally, any Nigerian still slamming Nigerian movies, whether English-speaking (Nollywood) or the Yoruba, Ibo etc movies as CRAP, should feel SHAME. If you can't be proud of what the industry has so far achieved, then where is the incentive for them to improve? |
Beyonce has always been light-skinned, so why all this ranting? Not like she was black and now fair. Just that, certain make-up she applies (foundation, powder) may make her look darker/lighter depending on the effects she's trying for. As for hair color, going blonde suits her skin tone more than dark shades, so pardon her for choosing to look good. And if there's some element of wanting to appeal to "whites" with the way she looks, who r we to judge, when we'd prolly do the same if in her shoes? The girl is mixed-race, ain't her choice. So let her be. |
I guess the use of the blackface theme was just a bold move to rid us all of all those archaic beliefs of the evils of "blackface" itself. There was a time 'black' models (of any shade) would never dream of being on the cover of mainstream magazines. Beyonce has taken it further with this move. Either that, or these people have run out of ideas and want to simply add shock value to their tasteless cover shoot ![]() |
Exactly!! @ reality has said a fact! Most of the (f) posting up their pics are looking for some kind of "acceptance" or just trying to hard. There are many sites online one can safely post ur pics but on NL it has become a JOKE!! Some go as far as posting pics of their rickety cars . Lol, Miss NL is out there somewhere but not on NO list. SORRY!! |
That's impressive, @next1 - there was a time when anything Nigerian was condemned in Liberia, talking about 20 yrs ago by my history books . I know any black nation would love Nigerian movies and actors. I know some Jamaicans who love Nigerian movies and subscribe for the channels, so they can watch our movies (yes even Yoruba films) on cable. When these actors travel abroad they are treated as lovingly as Hollywood A -listers. Lol |
Gosh, well I guess it's true wot they say: u can take the girl outta the ghetto but u can't take the ghetto outta the girl!! Going all the way to Hollywood to disgrace herself! Ever since I saw her sing on stage wearing a tight cat-suit (meant strictly to be worn by lepa's), I knew she had bad dress sense. Genevieve or even Uche Jombo would never be this razzzzzzzzzz! Lol |
Lol, that's cool, Ileke-Idi . It has reached the point where if I am asked to choose between watching a Nollywood movie or a Yoruba one. I'll pick the latter! And guess what, big-time movie makers like Teco Benson has started producing Yoruba movies! I guess he knows where the REAL money is being made!Igboboy na wa for you, Yoruba movies have worldwide acceptance where ever black pple are. In the UK many Nigerians watch them, after all there are many films subtitled in English! Yoruba actors are gaining more recognition everyday: embrace it you guys and stop triba-hating!!! |
Yeah he ain't that bad, but pls hope the kid won't inherit those bulging eyeballs and ponmo lips shaaa? |
@190 what-EVERRR!!! |
From what I'm seeing, Nollywood actors are getting jealous of Yoruba actors bc their Yoruba films are picking up. Bring the best Yoruba flicks against the best of Nollywood, you'll see there's serious competition. As for me I love Yoruba movies and they have the BEST actors Nigeria has to offer (quote me!). I've seen a lot and the acting, story line and filming are superb!! Their movies are hot that's why many Nollywood actors are crossing over (some are even non-Yoruba, but speak it well). The day Omotola acts in Yoruba movies, her career will sky-rocket, but she prefers her lame diva title in Nollywood which will soon explode faster than her potruding belly .Check out The Return of Jenifa, I was at the shooting for a few days and you need to see the mega stars of Nigeria's music and showbiz all happy to be a part of it. Nuff respect abeg to the young talented Yoruba film industry jare. Nollywood is mostly jst recycled scripts nways!! |
Heeheehee I trust Jim Iyke, he would have landed her one HOT slap b4 anyone would manage to restrain him - that kind slap wey fit make girl forget im papa name . Meanwhile, that Mike Ezeruonye toi dey feel/form abeg, that's good for him. Maybe she wanted him to toast her but he no send, so she dey beef him ![]() |

Lol @eatme I like ur guts . Hmmn well it's easy really, the guy is a pretender so I hope you can pretend as well . To dupe a dupester like him, you need to be ready to FAKE a lot. Once he believes you truly care and want him to join you, you've half-won the battle . He won't see it coming when you finish him off with the second shocker: making him spend so much on his application only to get arrested at the US EMBASSY with the fake documents you'll give him . It's a long. Complicated. Process. . But you will get satisfaction guaranteed. |
eatme don't mind those holy pretenders. Calling u a gold-digger when here's a loser guy trying to eat his cake and have it! He'll do ur cousin THEN join u in US without thinking twice! Now see, there are two things: make him pay (literally) and make him suffer (tremendously) . Those two things can make a Naija guy almost commit suicide .brb |
