I'm glad you narrowed your argument down to landscaping and streetscaping smiley

Yes, Nairobi has some tasks to do on streetscaping. big up to NMS for bridging the aforementioned gap.

On landscaping, I'm lost :'(.. Kindly enlighten me cos to my understanding the term is quite ambiguous, but if you imply the city gardening /nature improvement, then I will advice you to travel cos nature is nairobi' s first priority and her beautification is key as far as city planning is concerned.

The emboldened rings ignorance ignorance ignorance....... We all know SA cities are breathtaking and developed as far as African cities are concerned but any slight call out should not make you throw hatred out of effusive comments towards others, Nairobi is growing at neck breaking speed smiley.
I mean the beautification of the surroundings once you put up a building (not necessarily the municipal parks), there is not enough thought or money put into how your new glittering skyscrapers interact with the surroundings IMO. The Two Rivers complex has set the benchmark from what I've seen though . BTW the phrase is 'break-neck speed' wink

To answer this, your observation is wrong.
We don't have to learn city planning from SA since we have successfully maintained our zoning laws and bulding codes at the pick.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-2t6FqELxs
If Quiet is what you wanted to say then I can confidently tell you that 'Nairobi quiet surburbs' have maintained their bulding codes and in no way will you find a tall tower standing in such areas.

FYI, Cytonn had in July 2017 received the NCC approval to build a triplex complex on a four-acre piece of land at the junction of Elgeyo Marakwet but due to its massive height, it was halted due to strict coding and zoning laws.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuoAznN-Alc
You can definitely learn landscaping and streetscaping from SA. At ground level your city is disappointing, over paved and not as green as it looks from above. Yes, you've managed to keep some semblance of zoning but to a learned eye there are glaring flaws with your zoning and how you implement it. In short there is no 'placemaking'.

Very nice -menlyn look really nice- but I don't see sign of any construction- I think I saw one crane - in the entire video.
The lack of cranes is not indicative of a dearth of construction and nor is construction an end in itself. Most of the construction of buildings is done and what's left are the roads and the streetscape. Look at that streetscape, will all due respect Nairobi can learn something. There needs to be some sort of a master plan, not tall buildings randomly plopped in the middle of quite suburbia.

I think what he was saying is SA is headed for the big crunch, soon to end in a whimper, while Kenya is headed in the exact opposite direction, if ya know what I mean in terms of stellar evolution.
SA's been collapsing for the past 100 years in the eyes of detractors and yet here we are, still the most advanced economy in Africa with no competition in site. If anything it's you guys that will run out money much quicker than us, with a yawning current account deficit (5.2% of GDP) while we enjoy bumper surpluses, in February alone our trade surplus was $2 Billion (almost half of Kenya's annual exports, in fact we export more per month than you do in a year, we also export more agri goods in a year than your entire annual trade shocked ). You're the one whose foreign debt is exploding and FX reserves are dwindling - it's gonna end in tears but trust me no South African will be as gleeful to the demise of a fellow African economy like you seemingly are.

Anyways here's some photos from SA just to jolt you back to reality - just so that you see the enormity of your task

Lurker4Long:
We have such rough seas down here even a IPV has to be over 60m or it won't fare very well.

OPVs will be more than 80m. Our current OPVs - converted Israeli missile craft - were acquired when no one else would sell due to sanctions, and will be withdrawn from service.
Sailors will be pleased cos the design suited the Mediterranean and they had terrible sea-keeping.

That's why I envy navies working in calmer waters cos they can buy lots of smaller vessels.

Personal opinion: I suspect the Sea Axe design is the way of the future for IPVs and OPVs.
I think the logical way forward for the SA Navy is to simply continue with acquiring more of these ipvs, honestly with a range of 4000NM what extra capacity will the opvs bring. The fleet can be composed of 6 of these Biro ipvs and the Meko, the rationale of having an opv in between there is indulgent IMO. 6 of these will only cost R3bn if not less and they can have an all SA combat system, comms and radar, allowing exports (as Kabe alluded to they can be marketed as small corvettes and for only $35m each, very compelling value proposition for many African countries)
