Yeah SA is well-planned, we prefer small, compact and technologically advanced to massive, chaotic and dusty . We also know that runaway property investment can cause a painful economic bubble hence it's very hard to get approvals for skyscrapers willy-nilly.

We see some cities putting up skyscrapers anywhere without any thought given to the adequacy of utilities. That is why skyscrapers are sprouting next to small tiny 2-lane roads. One can only imagine the traffic congestion after a few years.

All of SA's cities are great with an outdoor lifestyle

No unsightly electricity reticulation on rickety poles in Joburg.
Smaller electric cables have already been buried since the 60's. Only high voltage cables remain over-ground and they are are placed in well-planned corridors.
