Faithful007: Great post, I would go beyond and say not only capital intensive but technology-intensive too. Unfortunately he doesn't understand this simple point. I would venture to say Nigeria's utilisation percentage of assets is even lower than SA's. One only needs to think of the whole fighter squadron of Jaguars left to rot. 4 Likes 1 Share |

shadowprimezero: You're true Nigerian patriot! You honestly acknowledge the shortfalls of your armed forces and yet you're optimistic. Unfortunately some of your compatriots are delusional and love to praise mediocrity. A nation the size of Nigeria should have a squadron of frontline jets, at least 20 modern jets (although an African giant would have 50 plus), e.g F16's, even mirages or even the twin-engined Russian beasts. You should have at least 4 missile armed frigates or even OPV's. Even submarines. At least you're aware of the platforms that your armed forces need. And it's not even going to happen in 1 step, it will take many years to execute a strategic procurement plan that will bear fruit. 4 Likes |

Covert1: Your myriad of maritime assets are armed with what missiles? What happens when your maritime ISR assets spot a Valour-class frigate in the Gulf of Guinea? Nothing. One Valour Class will blast that plane from the skies with our AAM (homemade) and sink your whole naval fleet of tiny vessels - FACT! You talk about your numerous air assets. Pray do tell what missiles are they armed with? Our front line fighters are armed with IRST missiles and A-Darter. It's no contest, 2 Gripens will blast your fighters and Tucanos to kingdom come - FACT! Everything else is emotional drivel. The FACTS are clear as day. 3 Likes |

Covert1: What WW2 equipment? Our state of the art equipment is posted here day-in-day out, from the Hornet Special forces vehicles, Oryx and Rooivalk choppers, advanced stealth frigates (while you're still arguing about to get 2 covertes), 4.5 gen aircraft (Gripen), advanced submarines. You have no analogue to many of our capabilities in many areas, e.g. no frigate with anti-ship and anti-air missiles (SA has homemade SAM), no submarines, no 4.5-gen jet (The Gripen's have been around since Mandela . And we do not make a big fuss about the glaring capabilities gulf between our countries, we're happy for your snail-like progress, e.g. acquiring Tucanos and a handful of jets) Our operations are detailed in glorious HD for you to see and critique. Right now we're in Eastern Congo, Mozambique and on internal deployment without missing a beat. When Kabe needs some nice photos of African equipment to lift the doldrums on this forum he knows the SANDF got his back. But I know you subconsciously hold SA as the benchmark, hence the need to always compare. So no offence taken, your insults are a compliment in fact. 9 Likes |

rvp20182: Why feel pity for SA? Feel pity for your own country and city. Kenya was more developed than S Korea at independence, so technically that's your competition . You are SA's older brother but are stunted in growth. BTW it was you who dragged us in this topic with your constant mentioning that you're catching up to SA and generally trying to patronise SA. Why do you want us gone now? The photos are making you angry cos they show the Nairobi 'emperor has no clothes'? Your economy is 'booming' and yet you continue to churn out sub-par developments and there is no improvement at ground level, no FDI, no increased exports, just a debt-fueled property boom. I saw a vid posted here about Upper Hill at ground level and was shocked, open drains and street hawkers in make shift stalls. You think you're catching up with all that? . You're just not tidy and fastidious enough to get on SA's level in 10 years, your country just lacks that attention to detail and high standards. 1 Like 1 Share |

rvp20182: You seem to know a lot about SA's trade stats (SA in general), pity it seems you're avoiding Kenyan figures. I understand though, they're really underwhelming. Don't make me go look for them now, I don't want to get shocked . At least if you present them you can spin some sort of narrative. You trade deficit better not be higher than your exports (I already know it is though ) 2 Likes |

Somebody was talking about SA's economy being dependent on minerals, well we happen to have a large industrial sector, with our automotive sector being particularly vibrant. We excel in making bakkies (small trucks) and export to more than 90 countries (mainly Europe but a good chunk of the rest of Africa as well). A look at the new Nissan Navara made in South Africa Nissan has opened orders for its new South Africa-made Navara bakkie, set to roll off the production line at Nissan’s Rosslyn plant next month. The group said that prices for the new Navara start from R311,000 ($21000) for the 2.5 petrol XE SC, and R474,000($32000) for the 2.5D diesel variant. |

SA has Africa's biggest and most advanced auto sector Merc C-Class under production in SA Mercedes-Benz has lifted the veil on its new generation C-Class. Production of the model is set to start later this year – for the local and export markets – at the Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) plant, in East London, following a R10-billion ($700m ) investment by the German parent company. The investment included the construction of a new paint shop and body shop, an upgrade to the assembly plant and some new warehouses. The 2021 start of production of the new C-Class will mark the sixty-third anniversary of Mercedes-Benz production at the East London plant. The new C-Class will be produced in the Mercedes-Benz plants in Bremen (Germany), Beijing (China) and East London (SA). https://www.engineeringnews.co.za/article/mercedes-benz-unveils-the-new-c-class-to-be-assembled-in-east-london-2021-02-24/rep_id:4136

rvp20182: Better to build an economy on gold, platinum, coal and iron ore than flowers and coffee . That is literally the definition of a banana republic (country that exports 1 or 2 products and runs a constant deficit). At any rate our manufacturing and services industries are still way superior to yours, from banks, to hotels, to steel production, to automotive production, we're way ahead mate. 3 Likes |

kikuyu1: That's old news, there's a mining boom if you haven't noticed and SA is the chief beneficiary. Dollars are flowing into the country at a record rate and GDP forecasts are being revised upwards continually. South Africa recorded its largest trade surplus on record in March, data showed on Friday, with sales of commodities and minerals rising sharply as global demand driven by the economic recovery from the coronavirus continued.
