Recently (last week actually), I heard someone talking about Onchocerciasis in Kaduna... I didn't believe it. Like... For some years now, I've been looking to trap Simulium and tsetse fly in Abuja and haven't been able to find any (One of the unseen heroic actions of Gen IBB)

ENACTUS means Entrepreneurial Action in Us. It was formerly SIFE, Students in Free Enterprise.

It’s a global student organization that uses entrepreneurship and innovation to solve social, economic, and environmental problems.

In simple terms
University students form teams, identify real problems in their communities, and develop SUSTAINABLE business/entrepreneurial solutions rather than simply giving charity. Key word? SUSTAINABLE. Any solutions proffered must be sustainable, and able to run by the community without the students' supervision.

How it works
1. Identify a community problem — poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, waste, agriculture, etc.

2. Design an entrepreneurial solution — preferably something that can generate income and continue after the project ends.

3. Implement the project with beneficiaries.

4. Measure the impact — jobs created, income increased, people reached, environmental benefits, etc.

5. Compete/present the project at ENACTUS National competitions, where the winner (ABU Zaria in this case) will represent Nigeria and compete against other students of other institutions from different other participating countries.

The Abu Faculty of Engineering has specifically carried this ENACTUS thing on its head as if it were a Nobel Prize.
Just to be clear, it is not a "school initiative" but a totally student-organized program.

Many Nigerian Universities are just not into it, and if they were, I am not saying ABU won't still beat them, but there would be better competition.

Just like the recent "Spelling Bee Competition" in which some kids "represented Nigeria."

I am very sure than 98% of Nigerian schools don't know that it exists.
If they knew, I am very sure that those kids may not have been the "representatives of Nigeria."

I don't know the current situation of ENACTUS in Nigeria's higher institutions, but I can assure you many schools are still active, and the competition is fierce. Also, ENACTUS is not a student organized stuff; putting it like that would be oversimplifying matters. Have you seen the organizers and sponsors? National leads and Advisers? Damnnnn... Those guys can lead Nigeria!

SIFE Nigeria 2011; I still remember this feeling of winning the group stages. This ENACTUS (formerly SIFE) gave me a different meaning to the song "Stand up! For the champions"

That year, Benue State University won from Nigeria, where their project was on Groundnut processing to cut post-harvest waste, and the use of orange peels for control of Mosquitoes. I wasn't a member of their team, we were opponents (in the final rounds); but I remember them and their project. Their project resonated within me, and I've been applying it in different ways till today.

That's not necessarily true. The power comes for 2 days, and goes for 2 weeks. It's been like that for years. I schooled briefly in ABSU 2004, visited Afikpo a good couple of times, and can tell you it was same problem as at 2004. I was in Afk in September/October last year, the problem was still there.

There's this Hospital, Mater Mesiricodia (I hope I got that correct), located towards Ozizza road. That whole area has been disconnected from the grid for many years. Pole fell, and the power company refused to fix it

During my time, i located my exam centre myself.

Back in your time, there was no banditry, kidnapping, yahoo boys, etc. You choose your exam town yourself, but you're given the school (government schools) by JAMB. The schools are easier to locate, etc.

Now? Aside all the vices, exams centres are like plazas. People that are not in the area may not be able to locate it without assistance. You night need to travel to another local government for your exams, etc.

Nowadays, the need to parental assistance has become more and more necessary

People who were failures during their tenures will also be present. How or what would they want to advice us (on)? How to fail?
