Ebuka, why would mom make that kind of will? On her second visit, Ada was in a no nonsense mood. You are looking more like mom each day. Ebuka, answer the question. If I may ask, how did you get to know about the will? I am sure that it has not been read in my absence. I hacked into mom's laptop. Ada! Stop shouting. I don't think that its your concern now. But what's in that will can put you in trouble. I know. So tell me why? If Calistus sees this, he will be ,....... More importantly, how are the efforts that you guys are taking on my case going? Ada sighed. To be frank with you, there is no improvement. All those we wanted to use as witness have either been threatened or have disappeared. Even your school's principal has been threatened with the lives of his workers. What? Mr Matthews? Yes. The other day that I went looking around for evidence, I was chased by some hoodlums on a car. I managed to escape but since then I have been told to stay out of this case by our lawyer for my safety. Searching mom's laptop was my last foray into looking to find something to help you. I did not expect to see the will. The will is a long story, Ada. I can't tell you about it. But I know that it has nothing to do with the case. It has everything to do with the case. Ada said, standing up. I will keep trying, but promise me that you won't lose hope. I won't . |
Na babe hold me up. Guy, shey you dey serious about this matter, abi na play e be? Wetin you think? Guy, I almost lost my life over this case and you..... Calm down and don't judge me yet. I am taking it serious, just that I am not jumping the gun like you. I have been obsevibg Mr Mogu for weeks. If I had known your plans, I would have warned you against it. He has people following him always. They don't make themselves obvious but if anyone got too close to him without explanation, the group that attacked you will launch an attack on them. I was planning to make a move on them this week and then take Mr Mogu into custody next week, but your interference disrupted that plan. Sorry oh! But when I did not........ I understand. That's my fault. So what do we do now? We have no choice but wait. Mr Mogu will certainly show up at some point. |
Ada refused to reply, rather she stared at a certain part of the will. This is not what is in the will! She said, aghast at what she saw. How will Mother distribute the wealth this way, making it dependent on each of our deaths? Ada, this is dangerous grounds. George said, pulling his hair up. If I am...... Stop whining about been caught, after all, nobody of import is around and this room is locked. But it your brother comes around...... E don do! Oya be going! Ada, don't vex ba, I am just been.... Go! George stood up, looking like a child lost in the jungle. Ada, bye-bye. Bye-bye oh! Can't you escort me out? No I am busy. At least give me a good night hug. Ada quickly stood up. Hmnn. Oya I don't hug you finish, be going. Ada, I love you. Really? Abeg make I see road. Be going. Ada this is..,...... Go! Or I will call security! George quickly walked out of her room and within seconds was out of the compound. Detective Arinze looked and Detective Kolade with interest. This was the second day in a new week and he is just showing up. Arinze was wondering what sort of lie he was about to tell. Detective Kolade, explain to me why you went contrary to your mission here in Abuja? Kolade looked at the IPO with a straight face. I am deeply sorry for not arresting Mr Mogu Sir. Immediately I came into Abuja, a severe fever got to me. I was rushed to Luke Carringtion International Hospital in Garki, Abuja. I was there throughout the duration of my stay here. I was just dismissed last week. Okay, why did you not contact us? Sir, the fever was so serious that my mind did not go to that direction. Even the doctor said that I am lucky to survive. Indeed. I will check out your story. The IPO said. I guess you have been updated on how things have gone so far? Yes sir. Mr Mogu would have escaped Abuja. That makes our work more difficult. I need you to work with Arinze here to achieve results in the fastest possible time. Yes Sir! And no excuses. Yes Sir. The IPO stood up. Kolade, this job is squarely in your hands for now. Don't mess it u. Yes sir. As soon as the IPO left, Detective Arinze turned to Kolade. Guy, you sabi lie gan! Why you no show? |
Detective Arinze looked startled for a moment, then his eyes lit up. Mr Mogu! We were bringing him to the EF......... He was taken, that is if you got him at all. However, its clear that you had something or someone of import, considering how battered your vehicles were. Sir, did Yusuf and Mustapha make it? Mustapha is fine. Its was from him that we learnt of the attack. Yusuf is on the other side of the ward, recuperating. D.P.O sir, I am sorr..... Don't apologize. Its not your fault that you were ambushed. I believe that we have insiders in our midst. Where is Kolade? I don't know, sir. I never heard from him, sir. What do you mean? where you not to rendevouz with him? Sir, Detective Kolade never picked up his calls, nor was he present throughout the mission. Even when we went to the address he gave us, he was absent. Hmnn......... Get some rest. We will speak tomorrow. While Calistus was scheming, Adaobi was busy pacing around her mother's room. It was the first time since her death that Ada entered her room. She had no idea what brought her there, until she saw her mother's silver coloured laptop. She quickly carried it and headed to her room. Maybe mom hid some information here. She opened the system and started it up, only to find out that unlike normal systems that just need a password, her mom's system was encrypted. God, what is this? She exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air. Why will mother's laptop have so much security? A thought suddenly found its way to her head. What if there was something REALLY important there? What if the answer to her death was hidden in there? Ada is usually cool headed but with her knowledge of American movies, she knew that anything could be hidden in a system, especially if its encrypted. She picked her phone. George, cab you come to my house? Why do you need to search your mother's files and folders? Adaobi sat on the sofa, looking at her dark skinned, nerdy looking friend called George. Its not really your business. It is. How do you want me to ignore this? You just need to enter any of your mum's companies and ask for the financial files and you have all you need. So why doing this? Moreover if I am caught, I could be looking at a prison sentence. Unlike you, I am just hustling and know nobody to fight for me or money to bribe judges. Please George, don't bother about the consequences. Just get her files from this system. OK oh. But I hope that I would be in trouble for this. They were both quiet and soon enough, the laptop was unlocked. So, what are we looking for here? Ada refused to answer the question, rather she was unusually focused on a word document on the system. Open that. George obliged and opened it. Ada, isn't this your mother's will? |
Its nothing, boss. Can I speak to Mr Mogu? Yes boss, he is here with me. Calistus waited with limited patience as he had packed his car. Oga mi! Saanu! Mr Mogu, I hope you are okay. Yes sir. A few scratches but nothing serious. How did they find you? I don't know, Oga mi. Na house I dey way my door just open and dem enter. So you are telling me that your partying had nothing to do with it? Oga! Mogu, listen to me! Calistus said, ignoring the Mr in the name. I am going to leave you with those men until the case is over. If anything happens again, it will be your head that will leave your body. Yes sir. Now give the phone back to the man that gave you the phone. Boss! Thunder's voice boomed back. Make sure that the man is comfortable and untouched during his stay with you. For how long sir? For as long I deem it fit. Meanwhile, keep him out of sight. Yes sir. That will be all for now." ########################### Ouch! Detective Arinze exclaimed, touching his sore head. 'Sorry sir." He turned around in confusion for a few seconds but.realising where he was. "What am I doing here?" "You were involved on an accident." "Or more accurately, an attack." |
firestar:Good for you! I am interested in comics but I want to be independent. What exactly do you do there? |
As soon as Adaobi entered the house, she walked straight to Mr Bamidele and Calistus. I believe that we should not give up on Ebuka. Who said something like that? Calistus asked in mock anger. We are doing everything we can and you are just opening your mouth to say nonsense. I am sorry, Nna. Ada said, partial mockery. The talk we just had drained me mentally. Then go and rest. Mr Bamidele said. Leave.this to Calistus and me. Ada walked away while Mr Bamidele left the house. As soon as he was alone, Calistus switched on his phone. Beep! A message flew in from a certain unknown number. The package has been retrieved. The message read. A small smile played on Calistus' lips. What are you smiling at? He turned to see Ada staring at him. Trouble is rising. A container I have been expecting just arrived, so I have to see it now. Now? Won't you eat first? Don't worry about that. I will eat outside. He said, rushing out. Once he started his car, he called the number. Thunder, good work." |

"Its hard to say, but we will try to get him free. Today ended on a good note." "Okay sir. But sir, I have something to ask you in secret." "What is it?" "What if the person that wants him dead is among us and is thwarting our plans to save him?" "What are you trying to say, Adaobi?" Mr Sanyaolu said, looking stunned. "Shh! I don't want anyone to think that what we are discussing is significant." Mr Sanyaolu calmed down. "But why the thought?" "Detective Arinze feels that someone close is after him and with Principal Matthews statement, its clear that the person who is responsible for this is someone close to us." Not to talk of Mr Mogu's disappearance. Mr Sanyaolu thought. "If that's the case, then its the worst thing that can happen to us." ############################################################################### Detective Arinze looked out from his window, worried about what could turn to a botched attempt at arresting a wanted criminal. in fact with the way the situation is turning, it could turn to a bloodbath for him and those around him, especially those police officers in the police van. "Yusuf, have we heard anything from Mustapha?" He asked his driver, who he gave the intercom to while he took over the driving. "No sir." "What about the Police Headquarters in Abuja?" "Nothing from them sir." Detective Arinze grinded his teeth, knowing that the only positive in this situation was the absence of the three whitee Jeeps. That was to change soon. "Sir, that's the Headquarters! The EFCC's Hadquarters, sir!" "I know!" Detective Arinze said. "Kee....................." Bam! the car was rammed by one of the white Jeeps. Before the officers in the police van could say jack, their van was also rammed. Consequently, five masked men came out from the Jeep closeat to Detective Arinze, carried Mr Mogu and escaped quickly as police vans showed up on the horizon. |

Mr Mogu raised his hands, utterly stunned at how events had played out. "Surprised, right?" Detective Arinze said as he pushed Mr Mogu before cuffing his hands and getting his team to ransack the area. Five minutes later, both Detective Arinze and Mr Mogu entered a Green Mercedes E10 series, with the rest of his team opting for the regular Police vans before driving swiftly away from the scene. "Yusuf, how the road na?" Detective Arinze asked his driver, who was a police officer like him. "Its clear sir. Nothing on the road." "Mustapha, how close are we from traffic?" "About five minutes away from any traffic, sir. I will advise that you move Mr Mogu to the EFCC's Headquarters not far from here for safety." "I can't do that, Mustapha and you know why." "Ok sir, just saying................ Sir, there are three white Jeeps with the Volvo sign on your tail". "Volvo Jeeps? I never heard of that. " "Me neither. But I.........." "Screeech!SSHHHHHHH!" The noise from the broken mouthpiece obviously gave Detective Arinze an idea of what is happening. "Mustapha! Turn Left quickly and then right. Drive towards the EFCC's Headquarters!" "Why, sir?" "We are under attack!" ############################################################################ "That's what Principal Matthews said?" Ada asked as she shook on disbelief. "Yes. He even showed me a text that was sent five minutes before I came in." "So, Principal Matthews is out of the way. Mr Bamidele said, scratching his head. Who can we call on?" "I don't know oo...." Ada said. "This is bad for Ebuka. Mr Sanyaolu said, shaking his head. We may been able to dent Mr Francis' testimony but Madam's death still hangs on him. Calistus, can you go to the police station and see Ebuka?" "Ok sir." "I will see Barr. Osaze and enquire about witness protection. Mr Sanyaolu said. Lets end this meeting here." As Mr Sanyaolu stood up and left, Ada walked towards him. "Do you think my brother can come out of this?" |

"Really? I thought you have some sentimental sympathy for them." "Obviously not. I hate their mother." "Shame about that. So what will you tell your colleagues?" "I will tell them that my mission did not succeed." Kolade's phone rang. "Please ignore it, my love." "Its my colleague. I have to answer this." "Ignore it." Cassandra insisted, rubbing her soft, smooth and light hands on him. "If you do, I promise a night for you to remember." "Really? Naughty girl." Kolade said as he turned around and hugged her, getting down to business. ********************************* "Sh*t!" Detective Arinze cursed under his breath. He had planned to leave the arrest of Mr Mogu in Detective Kolade's hands. However, he had suspected that with Detective Kolade's past history with the Okonkwos, he may be biased and unmotivated. So he took a request from the D.P.O and went to Abuja with a police squad in order to arrest Mr Mogu. Now they were in front of the house and he called Detective Kolade only for the phone to go unanswered. "Lets go!" He said to his squad and they moved quickly into positions, surrounding the house. Mr Mogu woke up, his head banging. He had gone to a wedding party and had taken too much booze. He slowly stood up and walked towards his red gate. As soon as he opened it to step out, the noozle of a gun greeted him. "Mr Mogu, you are under arrest for aiding in misappropriation of funds and arson! You have the right to remain silent for anything you say will be used against you in the court of law." |
Detective Kolade whistled, enjoying the beauty of where he was. While his co detective would think that he was on his way to arrest Mr Mogu, he was in another house, for another reason. His girlfriend. Cassandra Peters was the sweet 22 year old orphan he met on one of his postings. Her phone was stolen and shed had reported to the station. It was only him that took the case serious and by the time it was recovered, they were already friends. Her house was painted white with red stripes. The furnishing was creamy in color, various paintings adored the house. "They are beautiful, aren't they?" He turned to see a slim figure dripping in sensual sexiness. The red top covered her body well beyond the waist but he could tell that she was without pants. "Yes. The paintings are quite good." "I got them from an exhibition in UniAbuja. So what brings Detective Kolade here? I know that the Okonkwos case is in court." "Yes, I pretended that I needed to get some evidence here so that I can see you." "Liar! She slapped his head. I know that you are after Abuja girls. So how is the case going?" "You changed the topic. Kolade said, eyeing her hips. Ebuka is already doomed." "Eyah." "Whats that for? Don't tell me that you won't make a move at their company?" "Of course I will." "Then no sympathies. Just hit them." |
You are welcome KimberlyWest: |
I greet you, my oga. Thanks for calling others to my story. As for the other story, my creative juices have dried on that one. But let me finish this one first, then I will work on that. Akinwale14: |
Everyone kept quiet. Mr Francis swallowed his spittle, he could not believe what he got himself into. "Mr Francis, can you tell this honorable court how 'Aunty'..........." Kboom! Francis head landed on the floor. "Ah! O ti da ku ni yen!" A boisterous, fair skinned, ugly, Yoruba lady said as the whole court went into pandemonium. "Order! Order!!" The clerk kept hammering his mantle but it was all in vain until emergency health care services came to the rescue of the man. After the mild drama, the Judge stood up. It was 4.35pm. "This case is adjourned until a week's time. The accused is to be remanded in prison until the next hearing." "Court! Arise!" The clerk pronouced, ending the hearing for that day. ********************************************************** "So that's the situation at hand." Calistus had just heard about Kemi's kidnap and why Mr Matthews could not appear for the case. "So you think her kidnap is related to the case?" "Yes. I would have loved to help Ebuka, he is such a good person but I can't risk Kemi's life, even for him." Calistus then looked squarely at the principal. "Ebuka is my elder brother and your employee. I don't care what it will take to move you away from this office, if it needs me to give you money, I will do it. If............." "I don't think you understand, it......" "Its okay! Calistus said. Let me be going, I can see that you don't want to help." Before Mr Matthews could reply,Calistus walked out of the building. Once outside, he smiled. He had successfully blocked that route. |
I am sorry for the terrible pace this story has been going. A combination of factors have caused it. I am quite busy (business), MTN network is not good here and I had a writer's block (I still have it sef, am just trying to continue). I will try and pick up pace, but I need your comments and constructive criticisms, since its the first time am attempting such a difficult story. Thanks a lot. |
"Where is she?" "She has travelled to the States." "For how long?" Mr Francis scratched his head, seeming confused. "For like six months." The prosecution lawyer was confused for a minute, but he quickly wore a smile. "What did you do to stop Ebuka from taking advantage of your daughter?" "Objection! Barr. Osaze said. The accused is a suspect, not a convict and he should not be judged to have taken advantage of her until proven otherwise." "Objection overruled." The prosecution lawyer continued. "What did you do to stop your daughter from been taken advantage of?" "I warned both of them. I had chased Ebuka from my house before but he is a relentless he goat and he stays close to my house. What can I do? He is a rich person while I am poor. The power the rich holds is far more strong than that the poor have. I just hope this court will do justice." The prosecution lawyer then turned to the judge, bowed and left. "Does the Defence wish to cross examine the witness?" "Yes, Your Lordship." Barr Osaze stood up, adjusted his cloak and headed for the witness stand. "Mr Francis, how long has Mr Ebuka stayed in your compound?" "Three months sir." "Aunty Amaka traveled six months ago, abi?" "Yes." Mr Francis answered, suprised at the use of 'abi'. "Then how did she see Ebuka or know him?" |
The judge sat down, looking at everyone from his elevated position. It was 1pm. "Does the prosecution have any witnesses to call?" "Yes, your Lordship. Mr Francis Ortega, please come forward." Ebuka looked from his stand and shook his head as the last person he wanted to see. "Mr Francis, are you a Christian, Muslim or a traditionalist?" "I am a Christian." "Place your hand on the Bible." After swearing on the Bible, the lawyer proceeded to examine him. "Mr Francis Ortega is your name?" "Yes sir." "Explain your relationship with Loveth Ortega?" "Yes. She is my daughter." "How old is she?" "17 years old." "She will be 17 this year?" "No she will be 18." "So she was 17 last year?" "Yes." The lawyer then pointed to Ebuka. "Do you know him?" "Yes. He was a teacher in her school and he was her boyfriend." The court was rowdy with shouts of 'Ah' and 'O ma se' filling the air. "Silence! Order in court!" The noise died down. "How did you know about this?" "She confessed to me that she was pregnant for him." "So what did you do?" "We went to his house but he was not around,so we went back home." "Then what happened to Loveth?" "She went to her friend's house and I never saw her again." "So how did you know that the accused killed her?" "I heard that he picked her on the road with his car and drove off." "Who said this?" "Our neighbour, Aunty Amaka. "Where is Aunty Amaka?" |
All to no avail. Detective Arinze had watched as the IT personnel kept struggling to recover some files purportedly destroyed by Mr Mogu's accomplices. He wondered how the case was going in the court. Was Ebuka losing the case? How was Ada coping? He caught himself thinking about her and stopped. He knew that getting involved with her was wrong, afterall she is involved in the case as the accused sister. Yet he could not stop it. "Sir, I managed to retrieve this." His attention was called to the present issue at hand as one of the IT personnel, who was working on documents relating to Mr Mogu, walked towards him with a document. Detective Arinze looked at the document and smiled. "This will do for now. Thank you." He said to the staff member, who curtesyed and left. Detective Arinze then called Detective Kolade. "Mr Mogu's address is 24 Fair Harbour way, off Muritala Mohammed Expressway, Gwarimpa, Abuja." |
One of the teachers raised his hand. "Mr Ademola, do you know if she has siblings?" "Yes, she has a senior sister that lives in the compound?" "Does she know you?" "Not really." "But she knows that you are from her workplace?" "Yes." "Good. Go there after we close for the day and tell her that her sister has been kidnapped but we are resolving it." The revelation struck everyone like a slap to the cheek. Mr Ademola just nodded his head. "Stay there for a while if you must. Get her number and give her your number and my own." "For what, sir?" "To keep her abreast of the developments as regarding her sister. Do you hear me?" "Yes sir." Mr Matthews walked quickly to the office, only to meet a fair complexion man on a red polo shirt and black jean trouser. "Good morning sir." The man greeted, with Mr Matthews grunting his reply. "I am Calistus, Calistus Okonkwo." *********************** Detective Arinze entered inside the bank which housed Arizona International accounts. Since the day Mr Bamidele burst into the place looking for answers, the bank managers have been all over the place, looking for a possible way to extract themselves from the looming investigation. |
"No." Everyone turned towards Ada. "Why?" Ada seemed confused for a minute, then she quickly regained composure and told a lie. "I said that Calistus should not bother about checking the principal because his behavior has surely indicated that he does not want to help us. Besides Ebuka needs us here." "That is not necessary. Apart from moral support, our presence is useless. Besides Ebuka was always irritated when he sees me. I will be more useful outside than here." Mr Bamidele nodded his head. "Thats true. Calistus, go and check the principal." We will remain here. Calistus checked his watch. It was 12.45pm. **************************** Mr Matthews woke up with a start. It was 11.30am. He was trying to process some documents but his secretary came to mind. Kemi is somewhere, probably in discomfort and he is here, enjoying the luxury of an office. He stood up and walked out of his office towards the staff room. The teachers present, who were discussing how the usually roaming principal had decided to stay in his office, were suddenly amazed to see him. "Good afternoon." Some of them stuttered, while others kept quiet. "Who knows Kemi's house?" The principal asked. |
The judge looked at Ebuka with a level of intensity that was unsettling. "This court session sha go on recess and will resume in two hours time." The judge declared as the clock just hit 11am. As soon as the judge had left the court, the court was full of small chats. "Ada, when is the principal coming?" Mr Sanyaolu asked her. He and Mr Bamidele were in the courtroom alongside Adaobi. "I don't know. He should be here by now." Ada called his number once again, after five attempts. He refused to pick. "Can I go to check on him? Ada said. He said that he will be in the school this morning." "You can't go." Calistus said as he entered the courtroom. "Where have you been?" "I went to check the companies and from there to church. How is it going?" "It has not gone well." Ada said with her head bowed low. "Ada, don't talk like that. They just started. It would be better as the case continues." Ada shrugged her shoulders. "I don't even know again. I thought that I knew Ebuka." "Nothing has been proved yet. Mr Sanyaolu said. Moreover, no witnesses have been called." "I have seen cases that started like this and got washed away by the time the witnesses get to the stand." Mr Bamidele chipped in. "So don't be discouraged, Ebuka will come out of this." With those assurances, Ada smiled. "Now we have to find that principal. Calistus, go and look for him in Ebuka's school." |
Ebuka looked at the roof of the court. Is she......... No! She was a student, a good student and I took notice of that. Ok, so what happened from there? Nothing. We just became friends. I will teach her and when I needed to get something around the school, I will send her. So, what did you teach her? Her subjects- mathematics, physics and chemistry. I thought you said that she was intelligent? Yes. So why would she need to be taught? She struggled with those subjects. Is that all? Yes. The lawyer then faced the judge. That will be all, Your Grace. |
Where is she? Thats none of your business. Just know that she is safe and that nothing will happen to her if you cooperate. Can I................... The phone went dead. Who was that? Kemi has been kidnapped. Jesu! Her captors requested that I stay in my office until closing hours. What for? I don't know. Mr Matthews scratched his head. We must report to the police. Mr Boniface said. Go and do that. ............................................ Is she your lover or not? |

Mr Matthews looked at his watch. It was 10 am. Kemi, his secretary was never this late. In fact she is one of the first to resume duties everyday. He missed her presence- her kindness, joy and selfless attitude. He paced around, then left his air-conditioned office to see his vice-principal,Mr Ojo. "Has Kemi resumed?" He asked him. "No sir." "Has she switched her phone on?" "No sir." Mr Matthews face had a frown on it. Its unusual of her to be this late. "Has anyone gone to her house?" "Yes, Mr Boniface went there, but came back to report that she left the house by 7am." "Then what....................." His statement was cut short by his phone, which was ringing at the moment. "Who is this?" He answered with a question. "Mr Matthews, you are advised to remain in your office until closing hours for two weeks or else your secretary will die." |
