To be candid, it's good to pay and if you're not bouyant enough for now, have it at the back of your mind that, you will pay the debt to the kids (if any) or family later in future. You also let them know why it took you so long and why you didn't inform them wayback

My dear brother died today from a complicated injuries he sustained during an accident 3rd day after sallah while going to Lagos from kogi state.
I can't believe it.
He was a humble soul.
