ICPC to Go Spiritual in Tackling Corruption

Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) in Ibadan, Oyo state on Tuesday declared that it may go spiritual in dealing with corrupt officials in the country , saying there was the need for the agency to go spiritual for the crusade against graft to be effective.
This , according to the anti-graft agency, is due to increasing cases of corruption among public and private officers in the country.
ICPC chairman, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola (rtd), stated this at the opening of the South West Zonal Conference of the 2008 National Conference of anti-corruption units in government establishments. He said the new move was intended at nipping in the bud corrupt tendencies and inclinations in the hearts of officers in both the public and private sectors.
According to the ICPC boss, "Come September 7th, we are going to God, the almighty. We are going spiritual about it. We are going to have a national turning point outreach in celebration of what we are doing and appeal to God and the people so that the hearts of Nigerians could be changed.
"If this could be done, there will be a total transformation when the Holy Spirit takes over the affairs of every citizen of this country. We are also going to do this among the Muslim community. If the Muslims change, Christians change, then who will be corrupted in our nation? Those are the two major religions in our country?
"If they begin to act to their faiths, the Christians believe they have to be honest, Muslims also believe that they have to be honest, then the war would have been won."

The former apex court judge added that winning war against corrupt tendencies would be a mirage if the crusade was not people-driven.

For the crusade to be a success, Ayoola said he believed that Nigerians at all levels should realize that corruption is evil and it must be fought in all ramifications.

He stated that his agency had started fighting corruption by changing the attitudes of Nigerians to corruption by educating the people but disagreed with the perception that the war against corruption only entails arrest and prosecution of officials. In his speech to the occasion, Oyo State governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, enjoined all Nigerians to join efforts at eradicating the hydra-headed monster, adding that innovations that would check the trend must be prosecuted with vigour to stem the ever-increasing cases of official corruption in high and low places.

FG Moves to Check NSE Meltdown

A 16-man Presidential Advisory team has been constituted by the Federal Government, in its bid to stem the continuous fall of stocks in the Nigerian capital market.
Comprising members from the public and private sectors, the team would meet regularly to articulate and implement medium to long term measures necessary for healthy growth and development of the capital market.
Members of the team include minister of finance, minister of justice/attorney General of the Federation, minister of National Planning, Chief Economic Adviser to the president, Governor of CBN, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, DG SEC, DG NSE, DG Debt management Office, Managing Director Union Bank, Plc, Managing Director, Access bank, Plc, Managing Director, Intercontinental Bank, Plc, Bolaji Balogun, Ebilate Mac-Yoroki, Kayode Falowo and Oladipo Aina.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the meeting with Vice President Goodluck Jonathan and stakeholders aimed at stabilising the Nigerian capital market, Usman said the current situation had been a source of concern to the Federal Government.
Government, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, is to also issue an exemption to permit share buy back up to 20per cent.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Nigerian Stock Exchange(NSE), will also take administrative actions to stem the rate of new listings, until the market is stabilised. SEC, NSE and all capital markets operators have also agreed to reduce their fees significantly, while modalities for establishment of capital market stabilisation fund are being worked out.
In the same vein, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has started taking measures to improve the liquidity situation in the economy.
According to him, the presidential team which is expected to meet regularly, took far reaching decisions at the meeting, which include setting up of a presidential advisory team on the Nigerian capital market. He also revealed that NSE is taking steps to review its trading rules and regulations.
He said effective from today, maximum downward limit on daily price movement had been pegged at one per cent, while the current five per cent limit on upward movement was retained.
SEC, he said would release guidelines for market makers on the Nigerian Stock Exchange before the end of the week.
Speaking further, he said:
“A Presidential Advisory Team on the Nigerian Capital Market has been constituted; The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation has been directed to issue an exemption to the provisions of the relevant sections of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990 on share buy-backs to permit quoted companies to buy back up to 20% of their shares. The Securities and Exchange Commission’s approval would be necessary before any quoted company is allowed to undertake any share buy-back.”

“The SEC, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and all Capital Markets operators have agreed to reduce their fees significantly. For example, the NSE with effect from Wednesday August 27th will reduce its fees by 50%.
“The modalities for the establishment of a Capital Market Stabilization Fund are being worked out to intervene promptly, effectively and prudently in the Nigerian Stock Market as the need arises. The CBN is taking appropriate measures to review the liquidity situation in the economy and take appropriate measure to improve the liquidity in the system if required.
“The NSE is taking steps to review its trading rules and regulations. In the interim, effective Wednesday 27th August, 2008, it has taken the following steps : one per cent maximum downward limit on daily price movement whilst the current five per cent limit on upward movement is retained; The SEC would release guidelines for Market Makers on the Nigerian Stock Exchange before the end of the week; Henceforth there will be strict enforcement of NSE’s listing requirement with zero tolerance for infractions. The SEC and NSE will also take administrative actions to stem the rate of new listings until the market stabilizes; Having gone through the steps for delisting, the stock exchange will delist all the moribund companies earlier advertised.”
He also said, “ Nigerian banks would restructure existing facilities extended to licensed stock brokers, institutional and individual investors to allow for longer repayment periods.
“Nigerian Banks would partner with market makers to inject funds into the capital market through appropriately structured credit facilities.”

UNHOLY PRAYER:MEET THE "PASTOR" WHO PRAYS FOR DRUG BARONS

By Vincent Ukpong Kalu, Chioma Okezie- Okeh and Taiwo Oluwadare
Saturday, August 23, 2008

It took one visit by Saturday Sun reporter to find out that this particular man of God whose church is located on 2* Okota Road, Lagos has no grouse on how you make money, especially through drug trade. After listening to his sermon on that day of thanksgiving, there was the need to get one on one with him for a deal.

The deal was to get blessings from him to embark on drug trafficking. It paid well as Saturday Sun undercover reporter later got an appointment with the pastor for prayers so that God will endorse his planned illegal trade in drugs.

Prophetic fraud
“And the Bible says in the book of Gen 1: 29: ‘I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food”. Where do we get drugs of all kinds? Whether cocaine, marijuana, you can name it. They are all from the plant” Therefore my brother, go and possess your possession.”

These were the words of an acclaimed man of God who saw no offence in encouraging people to be couriers of hard drugs. With his power of oratory, he quotes and backs up his claim with the word of God. Having collected money from his clients, he would proceed to use biblical word to convince them to go ahead and trade in hard drugs. With such antics, the man of God makes his cool money from his unsuspecting followers. It does not matter to him whether the money is morally or legally acquired or not.
Saturday Sun in the course of work met a Christian lady who was bemoaning her brother’s carelessness and disrespect for the words of a man of God, and how the negligence landed him in jail in far away China. Wondering what the mistake could be. She said: “ My elder brother, was supposed to go for prayers before he embarked on that journey.

“ What journey, she was asked: “ He left with some wraps of cocaine and they caught him. Before his initial successful trips, a man of God prayed for him and he succeeded. He later felt that it was no longer necessary to see the man of God again and left without prayers. That is why he was caught”
Saturday Sun argued with this lady to confirm how true it was and she said. “ It is not a new thing, call them and they will pray for you, and my sister, you will succeed.”
Saturday Sun decided to go undercover with some of the contacts got.

Okota wonder pastor
The man of God is Pastor Emma (we withhold his surname) and he heads a certain Deliverance church at No 2*, Okota Road, Lagos. This man sees nothing wrong in drug trafficking even when the law all over the world criminalizes the trade. He says it is not a sin since it doesn’t involve carrying gun to take money from people by force. Saturday Sun went undercover to investigate the self-acclaimed man of God. He was phoned by our reporter who told him he is a businessman who needs his assistance in his business endeavor. He was plain enough to tell him that he had the intention to carry some substance down to China and was asked to meet him for prayers by a client of his in China who had been ‘blessed’ in the business by the pastor’s prayers. Pastor Emma invited him over to a spot close to his church for prayers.

An appointment
As agreed, Saturday Sun was at the spot at the agreed time. Unfortunately the pastor refused to show up or pick his calls. To be sure it was not deliberate, he called him through a business centre and he quickly picked his call apologising for not coming there as agreed. After waiting for about two hours, Saturday Sun left pleased to know that he did not belong to the category of prophets of doom.

The spirit spoke
After this initial disappointment by the pastor to honour the invitation, Pastor Emma called and apologized for his inability to keep to the appointment. His excuse was that he was yet to hear from God. During this call, he said the Lord had spoken to him and confirmed that he wanted to see him for good, therefore he should go ahead with the deal. We then rescheduled to meet in his church on a Tuesday. As agreed he was handy to welcome me in front of his church.

God says yes
“Good evening my brother, I’m sorry I couldn’t attend to you because I had not heard from God then. When did I call you? It was on Saturday, I replied. It was in the preceding day I heard from God that I should attend to you because you have a good intention. Yes, before we continue, let us pray” he said. We prayed together, after which he asked me to give my personal details.

Dialogue
“Now, as our protocol here in this church, I will counsel you. What is your name?
My name is Adebayo Aleshinloye.

Where do you live?
I live at No 5, Ire-akari St, Okota, Lagos.

Are you working?
Yes, I’m into buying and selling.

What do you want?
Actually, I’m a businessman and I’m beginning to have some setback in the business. I’m afraid to say it sir.

Don’t worry, say your mind, he encouraged me.”
I had confided in my friend Emeka on how I can survive and bounce back to business. He advised me to carry some substance to China. I told him that it would be suicide mission but he insisted that I should meet you and everything would be all right. He said you were the one who prayed for him. I want to do this so that I can re-establish myself that is why I come to you sir.”

Unto God thou hast come
“You have not come to me, you come to God. Almighty I can understand you. Let’s open the Bible into the book of Gen. 1 vs. 26- 29. Verse 29 says: “And God said, “see, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food”. Where do we get drugs of all kinds? From growing plant sir, I replied. That means marijuana, cocaine and other drugs are from these plants. Therefore, they are there to make money for you. If you tell me I should assist you in prayers to rob or defraud, I will not sit down here to discuss with you. Don’t worry you can go ahead God is in control.
Now, read with me the book of Psalm 37 vs. 3-5. It says you should trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and he shall bring it to pass”, he read.

You must make covenant with God here that if he takes you to China and back safely, these are the things you will do for Him. I quipped, “Sir, I’m not an ingrate. In fact, if God can do for me as I wish, I will buy a bus for the church”. He exclaimed, “praise the Lord! Alleluyah! And God will grant you your heart’s desires. Amen, I said.

The price
These are the things we would need for the prayers, come with your picture, Goya oil, and N50,000. I’ll go with Rev. Dickson to a mountain in Osogbo, Osun State, a very high mountain. There we will pray for you for seven days and after we have come back, we will also pray for you here, in this church.
But don’t forget to be faithful to God because if you refuse to do so, He might not take you there safely. We will put the anointing oil into your eyes that every eye that sees you will favour you. Physically it may look like oil but spiritually it is a power that brings favour. I have many young guys like you who come to me for this kind of assistance.

Even, my younger brother, of the same father and mother is in Spain. He is a drug baron. I can even connect you to him. You will notice when you mentioned Emeka on phone to me who told you about me that I could not recollect. I have so many guys in this business. Lest I forget, you need to add more N20,000 to the money because we will go there to meet five prophets on the mountain. The prophets, they don’t have family and house; the mountain is their house. Let’s pray” he said. We prayed and he warned me never to disappoint God.

“Don’t disappoint God and be faithful to Him and don’t fear. Do you know how Fashola won in Lagos State? He was in a group called Island Club, where decisions about this state are made with Tinubu. Despite Tinubu’s support for Fashola, Fashola never relented in his campaign until he won because he knew what he wanted. Therefore, don’t relent; be up and doing until you achieve your heart’s desires” he advised me.

Another pastor at Okokomaiko
A pastor whose church is at Okokomaiko in the Ojo area of Lagos is also one of the men of God who prays for people who want to engage in illegal business to prosper.
He prays for drug couriers and advance fee fraudsters for success in their prospective business venture. The Toyota special utility vehicle (SUV) he is driving was given to him for safekeeping by a drug courier who was a member of his flock. After praying for the drug courier for a successful business trip, the young man gave him his jeep to keep and promised to buy him another car if the trip was successful.
He actually had a successful trip, but on his return he wanted to get back the SUV from the pastor and to buy him another car as agreed. The pastor reneged on the agreement and said that he would not accept any other vehicle except the SUV. Immediately the man traveled out for the drug business, the pastor changed the particulars of the vehicle to his own. When the man wanted to make trouble, the pastor threatened to report him to NDLEA and the police. The young man realized that the pastor’s threat was no mere fluke and he soft-pedaled and left the church.

Men of God react
Such pastors are thieves, hypocrites and should be arrested.
Saturday Sun spoke with some men of God on their views about such involvement.
Pastor Peter Okoye, Deliverance Grace Assembly: This man’s decision to pray for such people makes him a confirmed assassin.

“God forbid. It’s like asking me whether I could pray for an assassin to succeed in his quest to exterminate life. If I do such then I am an accomplice to the crime committed. Not only does my Bible abhor it, my conscience would not accept it. No matter how desperate a man might be, life belongs to God and He is the only one that has the right to life an death.”

He was referred to the passage of the Bible the pastor at Okota quoted, Gen: 1: 29, Pastor Okoye shouted: “Blasphemy. Such person should be arrested and prosecuted as he must be a kingpin to these criminals. NDLEA should find him. Forget the word of God; even the devil can preach the word of God. That is why the judgment of God will definitely start from the church. His end has come because he will be answerable to the blood of those that perished as a result.”
Pastor Abraham Okoyah, Voice of Yahweh Salvation Assembly (VOYSA) insists that any pastor that indulges in such must be prosperity oriented.

I cannot pray for such person because I know the harm it would cause to the body of the Messiah. But if the person should hide from me the real thing he had gone there to do, I would pray for him. There are many poisonous herbs in the forest that could be used to kill, why not also advise people to get it and kill. God gave as food not poison.

Do you know that bitter leaf is one of the most poisonous plants in the world. That pastor does not know what the word says, he should pray that God would have an encounter with him or his wrath would visit his family. He is doing it for money. He is prosperity-oriented. He is not preaching righteousness and nothing more. There was a case where a pastor told a member that you can fornicate as much as you can, once you read Psalm 51, forty times then it would be taken away from you. There are so many evils that pastors are doing these days. I used to tell them it is better, you go and do business than deceive yourself as a pastor. The pastor is doing it because he knows the return that comes out of it. Money is not evil, it’s the way you handle it.

Bishop Adebayo Akinde, of the Anglican Communion sees such involvement as distortion of the word of God, abuse, and misuse of biblical facts. There are trees and herbs that contain poison; certainly God does not intend to poison that which he had created fearfully. Those hard drugs are meant to destroy. I believe that question is not meant for me but for me to advise any one that does indulge in such act to go back to the altar and give his life to Christ. That man of God needs to go and read his Bible well and give his life to Christ. Otherwise God’s judgment would start here on earth.

Pastor Steve Okoro, Redeemed Christian Church,
God forbid? Before I even conceive that in my mind may the good Lord take my soul! You are indirectly asking me if I can kill. The answer is no. No matter the million that he offers me. We are in the end time when men are now lovers of man and not God. If such pastor is broke he should ask for help not at the expense of the life of another. It is even better for him to pray for a robber than for a man whose evil intention would wipe out a generation. That pastor must be an anti-Christ whose mission on earth is to deceive and I tell you he would be exposed if he refuses to repent.

Pastor Kunle Adebayo of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry says the mere thought of it would aggravate the wrath of God on him.

“What sort of question is that? Do you want the fire of the Holy Ghost to destroy me? I can never do such. I am sure the one who encourages a carrier is as good as the carrier. Whoever does that must be evil and should die by fire by force.”

When refereed to the bible reference the drug pastor uses, he shouted: “Such a criminal that claims to be a pastor should be arrested. He should be able to give links to where all the people he prayed for are.”

A JOKE ABOUT SNUBBING BILL GATES

A business woman named Cindy was in the airport VIP lounge on her way to Los Angeles. While in the VIP lounge, she noticed Bill Gates sitting on the sofa enjoying a brandy. As luck would have it, Cindy was meeting with a very important client who was running somewhat late.

Being a bold business woman, Cindy decided to go ahead and approach Bill Gates, and introduced herself. Much to her surprise Mr.Gates turned out to be very nice. Encouraged by this she explained to Bill Gates that she was about to close a very important business deal and that she would be very grateful if he could say a quick "hello Cindy" to her when she was with her client. Mr. Trump consented to do just that.

Ten minutes later while Cindy was speaking with her client, she felt a rap on her shoulder. It was Bill Gates. Cindy turned about and looked at him as Trump said.

"Hi Cindy, what's going on?"

To which Cindy glibly replied, "Not now, Bill, can't you see I'm in a meeting!"
