Pls who here has requested a remarking of their IELTS score and got an upgrade?I attempted my 2nd IELTS on February 11th and the scores were L8.5 R.8 S 7.5 W6.5 ,which pushed my points CRS from 409 to 420.However i believe if i request for my Wriiting to be re-marked i will get a 7.I also dont understand why the eaminers keep grading Writing low. Secondly, how long should POF funds be in my account before submitting the statememt?i reckon my dad or uncle will be able to gift me 2 million naira AFTER i have gotten the ITA,hence submitting POF of approx 3 months statement. 1 Like |

Very informative thread,i wish i had followed it earlier.I'm interested in the Express Entry migration scheme-i'm single 29 years old,i have a WES for my Unilag Bsc and currently awaiting a WES for my UK masters.I have 4 years 8 months work experience and an additional one year from my NYSC.I took the IELTS last year and scored L 7.5 R 8.5 S 8.5 W 6.5 Overall band 8. I was feeling good with my ielts score but im just finding out that my Listening and Writing score should be higher? Is it too late to request a remark? Do the ielts examiners mark more favorably if you dont indicate you're a CIC applicant? What will be my current CRS points?Do i stand a chance for an ITA? Appreciate any advice/commentary. |

kettykin:Those 'dead brown roof' buildings are pointers of early civilization. When those buildings were erected, interior igbos still lived in mud houses and ran about half clothed.the Oyo Empire is a grand and magnificent empire.Just because the present day Oyo indigenes might be 'lazy' compared to igbos,is even a pointer that they are still reaping the benefits and legacies left for them by their ancestors with foresights. In contrast interior igbos ancestors were only peasant farmers that couldnt leave legacies and heirlooms for their descendants, that s why igbo men 'todayhave to work twice as hard and hustle to make a name, because there''s no noble pedigree he can fall back on. 2 Likes |

badnature:My dear Yorubas have always been more civilized than hinterland igbos.Yorubas belonged to empires, had ceremonial poise and even without western exposure, were able to develop their own unique clothing-buba and shokoto for men,aso oke for women and men too.I have come across COUNTELESS pictures of igbos looking crude and primitive even up till the 1940s.However,there is a significant DIFFERENCE between Marginal Igbos and Interior igbos.Marginal Igbos located by the rivers, were normally monarchial and had contacts with more progressive tribes and europeans and hence got civilized earlier.I know for a fact that the Aros had been wearing clothes since the 1700s,and as a matter of fact when they migrated to igbo hinterlands, the indigenes called them 'Bekee Mbu' because they were wearing clothes. 3 Likes |

Ariani: Lol theres no point arguing, apart from marginal igbos of Onitsha,Asaba,Oguta, and Arochukwu, the rest of hinterland igbos had a very very low standard of living, were majorly peasant farmers, landlocked and didn't have access to the coast and hence the spoils of western goods,as well as being acephalous and not belonging to sophisticated empires. However, with colonialism ánd the gradual penetration of the hinterland, interior igbos through western education began to experience improved living standards and started migrating to the urban city centers. In fact because of how aggressively interior igbos pursued western education, majority of top administrative, business, occupations, govt and civil service roles started to be dominated by igbos, and the narrative of the igbo race started to change towards the progressive. 1 Like |
Culture / Re: Developing Tourism Potentials In Arochukwu by ray78: 1:10am On Jul 08, 2016 |
Very well said.In the context of the trans-atlantic slave trade, there are 4 principal towns in sub-saharan West Africa- 1)Elmina Castle in Ghana 2)Badagry in Lagos Nigeria 3)Calabar in Nigeria 4)Arochukwu in Nigeria All the above 3 have been well promoted by their host governments tto become proper tourist havens, attracting tons of tourists from near and the diaspora to these historic slave routes. Its a shame that Arochukwu has not been as lucky,as successive administrations in Abia state have failed to recognize the enormous potentials that Arochukwu holds for Tourism. Perhaps if Arochukwu was in Cross River State and marketed as a sister town and kingdom to Calabar, that would be better than its present predicament in Abia state,as nde mba ovia individualistic behaviour is not concerned with history and is just concerned with accumulation of personal wealth. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Culture / Re: Is Arochukwu The Origin Of The Igbos? by ray78: 12:31am On Jul 08, 2016 |
Aros that did not even identify as Igbo until the 1950s.The 'Oke Igbo' stands for 'above igbo'.They have idealisms different from core igbo and seek to protect their interests and not the generic igbo interest. Why they are found in many igbo communities and even Niger Delta and Middle Belt towns was because of the slave trade era, where they migrated as missionaries of their Oracle-long juju. They went to all these places to propagate their belief system and win patronage to their oracle which was used for arbitration, eventually selling off the losing party to slavery through calabar. Infact they were in Calabar province till 1967,and share a number of ceremonial features with the Efiks. So NO they arent the origin of Igbos AT ALL 2 Likes |

Radoillo:Her ancestry is indeed interesting.I do know that her maternal great grandmother-Okwuegbunam was the elder sister to Obed Azikiwe(Dr Nnamdi Azikiwes father) who had a child with a Scottish man. This child was Chief Andrew McIntosh, hence the first cousin to Great Zik.Chief ANdrew Mcintosh then married an Itsekiri/Saro lady to give birth to Deborah Mcintosh later Adadevoh-Ameyos Mother. So in earnest, late Dr Adadevohs maternal side is a motley of,Onitsha(igbo),Itsekiri,Scottish and Sierra Leonean blood. While her paternal ancestry is Yoruba Sierra leonean and Ewe(Ghanaian) blood. A daughter of Africa and the world indeed! 2 Likes 1 Share |

arcbay: Lol why dogs dont "betray" you is beacuse you are their source of food and shelter. Its been recorded that if the owner of a dog dies alone with the dog, after some time the dog will start eating the remains of the owner,no matter how "loyal" the dog is. Dogs basically protect their owners because they are protecting their next meal and walks etc.I'm not against having pets, its just the excess humanization of dogs that i find silly. 2 Likes |

Ofodirinwa:Is it not the interior igbo traders that have spoilt Onitsha city with their die-hard quest for wealth? To build mansion in village and drive big car? Onitshans are noble and distinguished people who consider "buying and selling spare parts" and apprenticeship beneath them. If Onitsha leaves Anambra state, half of the goodwill that Anambra enjoys today will be gone, considering the diplomacy that Onitshans are reknowed for from afar. |

Chiwude:No Igwe of orlu was recognized as a first Class chief o,your source is incorrect. The 8 First Class Chiefs in old Eastern Region as recognized in the constitution of 1963 or so, are; Obi of Onitsha,Obong of Calabar,EzeAro of Arochukwu,Amanyanbo of Bonny,Amanyanbo of Opobo,Obi of Oguta and Amanyanbo of Abonema. Theres no Orlu there.Even Eze Nri wasnt recognized because hes more of a priest than a King.Oguta and Onitsha got their civilization from Great Benin, while Arochukwu got its civilization from Old Calabar-thats why they had organized kingdoms. |

Ofodirinwa:Typical hinterland igbo behaviour.Every time "ndigbo enwero eze, ndigbo enwero eze".Do you think Onitshans wanted to identify as igbo in the first place?precolonially, igbos without kings were at the bottom of the social hierarchy among tribes in the south, all they were good for was farmwork and thats why they were mostly sold as slaves by the Ijaw and Efiks.Onitshans got their social exposure from the great Benin Empire, which was majestic and very prestigious centuries back and hence with that kind of pride, they were condescending towards igbos-who could not properly organize themselves socially.Onitshan,Aniomas,Aros also grew wealthy from coastal trade in the past and had started wearing clothes when you bush igbo people were still running around naked with your änyi enwero eze" trope. The Akwa-Ocha cloth has been worn for centuries. Not that clownish Isi Agu atture! Till date, the Enu Onitsha man wiil prefer his daughter not to marry from interior igboland but rather from Onitsha westwards(Anioma,Benin,Nigerdelta,Yoruba or even Igala) Igbos and unnecessary pride......ordinary respect a grand King is hard, and you expect to produce the President of Nigeria? When you cant organize yourselves socially.Jokers 1 Like |

Lol why should the Chinese people be prevented from eating them/Its their culture for hundreds of years.Dont you eat meat and chicken? Are cows lesser animals than dogs?Dogs too are sources of protein. All this talk of dogs being mans best friend is funny,if you die alone in your house with your dog,the dog will start eating your dead body whether you were nice to your dog or not.Why dogs are "loyal'is because you are their source of food and shelter, and thats it.They dont love you that much lol. |

modhream:Hahaha "puny"kingdoms?Mind you most of these kingdoms sold "ïgbos" as slaves in the past. The individualistic nature of the hinterland igbo is why igbos cant produce a president, when they are ingrained not to appreciate and respect hierachy of nobility, afterall "ndigbo enwero eze".Even to respect the proper use of red caps for titled men is a problem.Instead of needlessly arguing try and be rational and understand that these foundational problems are why theres a leadership vacuum in igboland and politically igbos remain clowns. The most respected igbo leader by all Nigerians remains Nnamdi Azikiwe .An Onitsha man-who eventually struggled with his igbo identity(as recognized in his autobiography-My Odyssey where he promoted his Benin aristocracy of his lineage. Its not enough for igbos to be excelling in business.academics and sports. There needs to be proper cohesiveness and laid down values that will even make the igbo identity attractive to South South igbos. 1 Like |

modhream: Well i didnt mean nnewi in particular,i meant the non-onitsha igbo traders. The native Onitsha men dont have that "aggresive accumulation of wealth"mentality and he finds trading beneath him,he would rather be a civil servant than a trader, train his children with elite education and retire to a small bungalow than make money by all means to build mansion and buy latest jeep. Infact ive observed that the social civilization of igbos from kingdoms ie Onitsha,Asaba,Oguta,Arochukwu,Anioma is different from the hinterland igbos. The former have calmer easy going but well cultured attitudes, whereas the latter although very hardworking have low social civilization skills and organization and its hence understandable while they(the former) didnt want to identify as igbos historically. 1 Like |

qualified: But the term igbo is an ethnicity not limited to regional demarcations.Yorubas are not only found in the south west you know, there are yorubas in the north states ie Kogi and Kwara state. They are called Okun yorubas. They have more Hausa charcteristics but they proudly align with the yoruba race. View the map of igboland and see that ideally "igbo" stretches from Agbor in the Midwest to even Aba.SouthEastern igbos need to stop pushing away South South igbos that want to identify with igbos, even in southeastern igboland, the communities that had Kings historically didnt want to be identified as Igbos.Ask Onitsha,Oguta and Arochukwu people about their history. They all saw refered to themselves by their hometown, and looked down on their hinterland(igbo) neighbours who were not as culturally organized as them or had noble kingships. It conitinued until the 1930s when the Igbo Union was formed and igbos had started excelling in education and government that these communities reluctantly decide to be called ïgbo".Till today the native Onitsha man silently despises the traders from Nnewi and other hinterland areas that messed up Onitsha city because of ambitious quest for money.
